The inside is beautifully decorated. It gives me family vibes with how wholesome it feels. The service was standard in that the food took about 20 minutes to come out. The server was so nice! They didn't label their individual menu items as gluten free but there was an added note that all items except two were gluten free, which was a wonderful surprise!! My dad and I split the student noodles and the yorm chicken salad. The student noodles (with tofu) were outstanding. The sauce was so savory and umami and YUM. The tofu had a nice char on it and the cabbage soaked up the sauce too... I love and want to go back to order it again. The yorm chicken salad was a nice large portion and so fresh. It had a slight kick to it but the basil's and parsley allowed for a nice balance. I would also get this again but when we come back (we will), I'm thinking I want to try the lemongrass chicken dish! Despite having only one cook and a waitress, tonight's dinner and birthday celebration for my sister, was really nice! This is my first time trying Cambodian food and it was very delicious. Full of similar flavors to Thai / Filipino food. The Lemongrass soup tasted like Tom Yung and the Porkchop tasted like Filipino BBQ. The Beef Skewer had a lemongrass/coconut marinade to it which was a hit. We also had the Seafood Platter but I only tasted the salmon and it was pretty good. If you are not careful, you will miss the entrance to this restaurant. When we came, it was cash only. As one of the few Cambodian restaurants in the valley, I was super excited to try out the cuisine. We ordered the lok lak beef and bok lahong salad to start. The beef salad was savory and I really liked how the meat and the greens of the dish paired with each other. The bok lahong salad has a mixture of shrimp paste, fish sauce, and salted crab. The menu does warn you about the strong pungent taste because we were also shocked by the taste was. I wouldn't recommend it to people who aren't used to the fish sauce smell or taste. But it did taste good! For the entree, we ordered the amok fish that came with a bowl of rice. This was the star of the show. The curry sauce was super creamy and the catfish just fell apart at the touch. Yet it was still bouncy and chewy. That is the characteristic of a fresh fish there. We ended the meal with a jackfruit sweet rice dessert and it was not too sweet (a compliment). With how strong the flavors were for the other dishes, the sticky rice cleansed the palate. I've been to Cambodia and enjoyed trying some of the dishes from my travels there. Major nostalgia eating at Reathrey Sekong! The interior has Cambodian decorations everywhere, like photos, Buddha statues, and instruments, plus Cambodian music playing, which I always appreciate. My husband and I had the lok lak beef salad, steak and thuk prahok, one egg roll, one spring roll, jackfruit sweet rice, and banana tapioca. The standout was the lok lak, which includes beef coated in a glossy, peppery sauce with some veggies and rice. We both really enjoyed this. Everything else was great and felt authentic. The desserts were not too sweet and were so light to finish out the meal. The price is a quite high for the portion of the food; if they want to keep the prices as is, I suggest giving more food. Cambodian food isn't nearly as easy to find as Thai or Vietnamese, and Reathrey Sekong offers a phenomenal experience. This unassuming spot in Midtown is easy to pass by, tucked away on Indian School Road, but is well worth seeking out. I stopped in for dinner on a quiet Friday night and was greeted by the host right away. The menu covers a wide range of Cambodian specialties, most of which I wasn't familiar with: the menu has very good descriptions of the fare. I settled on a fresh spring roll and steak with thuck prahok, chased with iced coffee. The spring roll was very similar to a Vietnamese summer roll, though with the addition of chicken to the shrimp, mint, and vermicelli. The bright, vinegary dipping sauce was a fine accompaniment. The steak dish was revelatory: thin slices of medium rare beef were served with raw vegetables and thuck prahok: a sauce of lemongrass, lime leaf, garlic, eggplant, chili, galangal, and prahok (fermented fish paste). The menu warns of its "strong pungent taste", and there's no easy way to describe the flavour: bold and bracing, without being overwhelming or overly salty. This little hole in the wall is a gem! The restaurant is homey and comforting and thankfully has its own private parking lot with adequate spaces. I came in with three other people on a Saturday evening around 6:30 and it wasn't too busy. We were immediately greeted and seated and the waiter was very helpful and friendly throughout the evening, offering suggestions as well. We ordered the fresh and fried spring/egg rolls, the kathiev cha, Cambodian pork chop, lok lak beef, and cha kreung. The food came out reasonably quickly and everything was fresh and flavorful. There was definitely an adequate amount of protein per serving and the portion sizes were good as well. The pork chop was definitely a highlight of the meal. It was a little warm in the restaurant so dress lightly and bring your appetite! As a heads up, there is a sign on the door says that they accept venmo/etc and cash, and credit cards are a 4% surcharge. I once watched a documentary about Cambodia. I won't say my mouth was salivating over Cambodian delicacies like fried spiders but I will admit I was intrigued.. Fantastic Cambodian restaurant with extremely friendly staff. The food comes across as simple, but they use high quality ingredients, highlighted by delicious flavors and spices. You can tell the owner has put in a lot of thought into the menu, as it provides detailed descriptions of the dishes, almost painting a story for diners. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu - noodles, rice, soups galore! There is a dish for every mood - from stir-fried to grilled, or veggie to seafood, they have it all. One of the best Cambodian restaurants I've had in my life. Every time I travel I always look to support local Khmer restaurants. I was surprised to see one in Phoenix. The authentic flavors caught my attention. It is so flavorful and encompasses so many traditional khmer dishes. Portion sizes are not large but will leave you content. BUT the staff is friendly and the food was awesome. We had the curry soup which I definitely recommend. That was so good and perfect for our Phoenix winter weather. Doesn't look like much when you drive by, we actually nearly missed it because it was along a busy road. Signage was a bit hard to see as it was dark but we managed to find our way in. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant, so if you drive slow enough you won't miss it. It was quite warm in there as they only had the fan on. Not sure if the air conditioner was broken but that wasn't turned on. It took a while for us to be seated as it was quite busy and I could see it was just one person running the floor. Definitely short staffed on the floor and in the kitchen. It took a long time for everything including taking our order and the food to come out. That's the only reason why I have given 4 stars. The server did say they were two chefs down and it was only his mum cooking in the kitchen. Besides from the food coming out slowly the taste of all the dishes was very authentic. It did remind me of home and my mums cooking. The bbq platter was full of flavour and the beef On the skewers were very tender and flavourful. Can definitely smell all the herbs. My mother and I ate here last night, 26 September 2023. I am just going to repost what she posted on one of her accounts on-line. There are two things that I would add. Several people commented that the restaurant was too hot. That was not the case at all when we were there: It was perfectly cool. Also, as far as the prices, they are no higher, and even lower, than one would get for comparable fare at other establishments. As Mom remarked, the Cambodian Pork Chops was one of the best pork dishes that she had ever had. Pre-COVID-19: Reathrey came into my radar of Southeast Asian cuisines, and I was excited to find at least ONE Cambodian restaurant in Arizona. It was truly a pleasure discovering this eatery. The place seems low-key with dim lighting and tightknit seating. When we got here for dinner, our server was kind and patient as we scrolled through the menu, not exactly knowing what to expect other than from the pictures on Yelp. I went with the popular "student noodles" and he went with the mi keaw. We also ordered the fried spring rolls as we know it is comparable to our SEA cultures. The cuisine definitely tastes like Vietnamese or Filipino spring roll minus the lettuce (in VN) cooking with a tasty dipping sauce. Lastly our desserts were jackfruit sticky rice and a banana sago soup, very much the same as Filipino ginataang. If you like coconut milk with sago and fruit, you'll love these tropical desserts. How authentic is it? I cannot say since it's only my second time trying Khmer food (both in America), but I believe they're Cambodian owned. Overall the food was appetizing and tasted familiar (nothing out of the ordinary) but very reminiscent of other SEA cultures (like the jackfruit sticky rice cake or sago soup, etc). Solid neighborhood gem that serves authentic Cambodian cuisine. The decor is traditional and lighting is dim. There's enough seating for about 30 guests at any one time. I came with a party of 8 and the service was quick and efficient. Our food came within 10 minutes. Most of what we ordered were very good. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes adequate. I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes and eating family style. What we ordered: 1. Bok lahong salad (A-) : Refreshing papaya salad starter. 2. Another great Yelp find! Who would have thought there would be an authentic Cambodian restaurant in Phoenix! My wife and I arrived in Phoenix last night and started looking for some good food while we were leaving the airport. I saw lots of rave reviews and they were spot on. We've never had Cambodian food before but it is very flavorful and kind of like Thai but less sauces. I ordered the Cha Kreung and my wife had the Lo Lak Beef. We both really enjoyed our dishes. The Lo Lak Beef has beef marinated in soy sauce until it is very tender and juicy with some veggies. If you like soy sauce flavors this one is good for you. It's a little salty though. My favorite was the Cha Kreung which is hard to describe but was savory and tasted somewhat similar to some Thai flavors and also had a mix of veggies and your choice of protein. First impressions walking in, the restaurant had a very welcoming atmosphere and decorations that really speak about the culture of Cambodia. We came around before dinner service and could tell that this restaurant had its reputation as the volume of customers picked up increasingly within the first hour of us being seated. The service was really good as the servers were very hospitable and always came back to refill waters or ask if there was anything else we needed. The food was amazing as every dish from the soup to the meat dishes balances out the palate. Each of the dishes has its own distinct taste which ends up leaving a taste that is not overpowering in your mouth (not too spicy, sweet, bitter, etc.) and makes you feel refreshed and satisfied at the same time. People can have that assumption that Cambodian cuisine may remind them about Thai cuisine because of similar tastes and they may be right, but Cambodian cuisine in itself tells it's own story and brings out its own unique array of flavours with traditional ingredients and spices local to Cambodia. Hands down the best if not the only Cambodian restaurant in Phoenix. Looking back at the picture of the loat cha, my mouth is salivating. I made it a point to visit Khmer restaurants whenever I'm out of town and this was a treat. I've only ever been to the Cambodian restaurants in Long Beach in the US; there are none in Vegas unfortunately. So glad we stopped by this joint. I was excited the moment I saw the mural on the outside of the building. My last visit to Cambodia was over 10 years ago but it felt like I had stepped back in time and was visiting a local Khmer restaurant in Cambodia here. I had taken my boyfriend to a Cambodian restaurant in Long Beach so he had an idea of what to expect (sort of). From what he said, the lemongrass/krueng flavor profile stood out more prominently here compared to Long Beach and he's still getting acclimated and taking his word with a grain of salt so to speak. The strong smells can throw people off at first but it's worth it to try in comparison to Thai, Lao and Viet food. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the pickled veggies with the perfect amount sweetness that complemented the grilled meats. He also loved his sticky white rice, not exactly sure why it stood out to him but I consider it a small victory. We were in town for Spring Training, finished leaving the game, and were hungry. Cambodian food appearing on Yelp here brought excitement to our day (we're from SoCal)! The owner let us know their place is the only Cambodian restaurant in the state (support your local donut shops though bc they are probably Cambodian-owned) If you blink, you may miss the entrance. Don't fret about parking, there is a private parking lot for patrons behind the building. The exterior is not so bright and is muted. On the flipside, the interior is decorated just as I would have imagined. There are many pieces of art, furniture, instruments that help make the space even more authentic. The food was great! Please be patient as the only people working are the owners (mother and son - mom is the chef). If you're ordering Amok, please expect to wait a little longer than your other entrees that it may come out last/later but it is well worth the wait! Go to any Cambodian food establishment, and you'll rarely see Amok being offered (time consumption to prep and cook), but it was very tasty and would order it again. Excellent little bistro hardly noticeable from the outside as a Cambodian restaurant, but well decorated from within, this is a little gem of a place that serves well made delicacies. If you haven't had Cambodian food yet, but know what Thai, Vietnamese is all about, this is pretty similar yet distinct. The place only has about 6-7 tables but it can fit up to 6-10 people per party. There is a variety of choices from fish to poultry to choose from, but small enough you don't have to spend too long picking. If anything this restaurant's cooking leans towards a more salty flavor with plenty of spices. Looking for something different to eat and came across this place that serves Cambodian food! Looking through the menu, I wanted to try everything! It's like having a home cooked meal. What I love about a mom and pop restaurant is the pride they take in the meals they serve. You can't rush good food. Started with the lemongrass soup. It's similar to tom yum soup. It has slices of beef in it. Being a meat eater, I really liked that! From the noodle section, we got the student noodles. Sorry to keep comparing it to Thai food, but the taste is similar to pad thai. This was really good, too! For seafood, decided to the the amok fish. Never had fish like this before. It's catfish marinated in a currry sauce. This dish takes about 20 minutes since they can't prep this ahead of time. It is steamed in a banana leaf. The texture is almost quiche like. So yummy! Meat wise (remember I mentioned I was a meat eater?), I had to order the steak & thuck prahok. Mmm mmm good! You have to dip the steak in the sauce. Put it in your mouth with one of the veggies they serve with it and you're good! Also got the Cambodian pork chops. Simple, but also very good! Of course, had to get dessert, so opted for the jackfruit & sweet rice. Okay, this time I will compare it to a Filipino dessert called suman. Nothing too fancy, sweet rice with jackfruit rolled into it and steamed in a banana leaf. It was a perfect way to end a great meal! Would definitely come back here! read more

If you're in the area and love food packed with flavor, you HAVE to come to Reathrey Sekong. This Cambodian food is delicious, colorful, and comforting. Their exterior is somewhat unassuming, located on a busy street next to a gas station, but they have a quaint parking lot in the back and tons of (beautifully decorated) space inside. We ordered the Lok Lak beef and curry soup, and they both exceeded our expectations. First of all, the beef- it is an absolute MUST! The small cubes of beef were tender and juicy, and the umami flavors were out of this world. The curry soup was warm and soothing, and even on a scorching summer day I slurped this broth up happily. This food felt indulgent but without the guilt. Everything tasted wonderful, and we walked out full but not heavy. I highly recommend coming to Reathrey Sekong! read more
