I dont have any pictures but a friend recommended Rebel to us since she is vegan, and we decided to check it out. I am lactose intolerant so I miss cheese, and I was hoping Rebel would taste closer to the real thing because the plant based options i've had before were not the best. I was immediately struck by how big the case was and how many options they had. I feel like we sampled most of the case lol. But my favorites were the fig brie and smoked cheddar. The staff were very friendly and helpful, although the snacks and chocolate we got were somehow misplaced while we were checking out. But that was rectified. I love that they have gf options for sandwiches as well, will definitely be back to try those. read more

We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately they were only serving their brunch menu till 2pm. We'd already had breakfast and felt pretty limited on what we could order that wasn't very breakfast-y. We asked if they had the grilled cheese or Mac and cheese as we had seen reviews with those items and they said no they didn't have (or couldn't make??) either so that was lame (Maybe those were specials they don't have all the time??). We ended up ordering a sandwich to split (which was huge and perfect for splitting! we're glad we didn't both order one) and the signature 3 cheese board. I wish the sandwich had come with a little more potato salad; the golf ball size portion was really a tease. The vegan Brie and bacon sandwich was delicious. Unfortunately we seriously waited an hour for the cheese board to come out and had long finished the sandwich by then (which had also taken a half hour to come out). They apologized for the wait and added a 4th cheese to our cheese board which we really appreciated seeing as we waited so long and it was pretty expensive for only 3 cheeses anyways. We got one drink, one sandwich and one cheese board and it was about a $50 lunch. The vegan cheeses were great though and super fun to try! Stopped here in between apartment tours and didn't know what to get. The cashier suggested the caprese sandwich, so I got that with a side of carrot something (???), and carrot cake. Vegan heaven! Like several other reviewers have mentioned, one of the hardest parts of going full vegan is giving up cheese. Everything at rebel cheese is vegan and incorporates at least one type of vegan cheese - score! They have a range of soups, salads, sandwiches, and breakfast items. Think "regular" sandwiches: ruebens, caprese, mozzarellas, etc, not your stereotypical vegan sandwiches (hummus wraps, veggie burgers, etc). The cheese boards come with the trio selection for the day with crackers, bread, nuts, olives, and fresh berries. Everything also was fairly affordable: sandwiches and salads running you about $12 each. In addition there are a number of cheeses that you can buy by the ounce/pound, packaged vegan snacks, and wines to go. The cafe has a number of indoor as well as outdoor seating options for small groups and small parties alike. Overall everything tasted great, my only critique was that the "mozzarella cheese" in the caprese sandwich was a bit soft, more like a cream cheese texture, for my preference. This place is amazing. I've had to eat dairy free for years now and one of the things I miss most is cheese. So when I found a place that sells vegan cheese I almost died from excitement. The first thing you notice when you go in is that it's this trendy restaurant with a friendly cheese expert asking if you want to try any samples. I tried a lot of cheeses, the first was a Chèvre. It tasted so delicious I got nervous for a second that it had milk in it. My favorite was the lemon Brie. It was lovely. It's also very affordable. Of course we ended up spending about $70 on other dairy free items throughout the store (caramels, chocolate bars, cakes). But the main show stopper was the cheese. Totally worth every penny in my opinion. They were out of mozzarella but I'm sure that slaps as well. If you're vegan or dairy free, this is a must-visit place in Austin. read more

I've been getting food and cheese from here since they opened. They are a gem to the community, regardless of anyone's dietary preferences. I've gotten multiple charcuterie boards, sandwiches, and even just bits of cheese for myself and I love the selection and flavors. My favorite items would be the sun-dried tomato's, the ash chévre, and the Bacon Brie sandwich and the Cobb salad (I hate salads usually but that one is so filling and satisfying). I've taken one of their charcuterie boards to holidays, parties, and girls night, and everyone is always blown away that it's vegan. So delicious and delightful. I've had nothing but positive experiences when I've ordered online or in person. My non-vegan friends are often blown away by how believable and absolutely delicious their cheeses / dishes are. They conveniently take orders online and offer curbside pick up. If a recipe calls for a type of cheese and you want to make it vegan friendly, then their cheese case is an affordable way to purchase exactly what you need to do so! Like a gourmet grilled cheese with added pickled jalapeños that have a sweet-pickled taste to them! 2) The "Bacon, Brie, and me" sandwich. I've been part of their cheese club for a year or two and have loved it. I've longed to visit their Austin-based store but never had plans to visit Texas. Welp, Southwest Airlines had other plans. When our flight out of California was delayed a few hours and rerouted through Austin with a couple hours layover, I knew exactly how I was going to spend my time! I Ubered right over, sampled everything (pretty much), and walked out of there with a million new cheeses. I also got a Caprese sandwich and my Italian father thinks this is ludicrous of me to say... but it's the best sandwich, vegan or non-vegan, I've ever had. There were many things I was excited about finally moving back home to Austin - you know, things like seeing my parents more than twice a year, and REBEL CHEESE. A gourmet vegan cheese and meat shop that caters to all the things I long for in my dietary life? YES PLEASE. After obsessively following on Instagram for a while, I wasted little time to get over there and try them out. I was NOT disappointed. No, I was most certainly not. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with sincere friendliness, and we were able to order on our phones for convenient door pickup. The only problem we encountered is that there were too many things we wanted to try. Eventually, I settled on The Grinder, which came piled high with housemade veg meat and mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini, and aioli (plus red onions added - highly recommended), all on the tastiest, toastiest bun I've had in ages. It came with a side of delightful pasta salad. My husband had the caprese salad, which was the stuff of vegan dreams. I initially thought we wouldn't finish all this, plus 2 ounces of dill havarti to split, but this was food that could not be stopped. I would be in a dangerous spot if I lived by this shop. We also loaded up on meats and cheeses to make our own charcuterie board for Christmas Eve. I have no doubt every bite of that is going to be stellar. They do offer their own curated charcuterie, but my allergies limit me from eating some kinds of cheese (brie, I see you), so I prefer to make my own. Such good cheese in general and it satisfies my vegan needs! We ordered the cheese board, added an extra cheese and took it home to create a beautiful tasty treat! For two people, I made a board using only half the blocks of cheese and saved the other half for another night. I added a few nuts and slices of fruit for fun but what they provide is perfectly enough for a satisfying cheese board. It was hard to decide which was my favorite and I didn't remember or see the different cheese names. It would probably be the rich and creamy truffle Boursin and the sun-dried tomato herb crusted Boursin. We also ordered their Bacon Brie and Me Sandwich and it was to die for so good! I won't ever miss the meat and dairy equivalent with this sandwich. I have been here twice now! It was so good the first time that I decided to do my birthday take out quarantine lunch from here! The first time we went here for brunch and I got the 'flake and bake'. Just in case you did not know it - everything here is vegan and everything here is also amazing. The croissant is indeed very flakey and buttery. I was also surprised about the egg because it tasted real - it was not tofu egg - it tasted like real egg. The second time we went here for my bday lunch my husband got the 'greater grinder' and I got the 'BLTA'. Both sandwiches were so good. Their 'meat' tastes really smokey/savory! Did I also mention that the service here is great? They are really nice and friendly and the staff seems like they know what they are doing. This will be my new go to place for when I crave a BLTA. Their housemade bacon tastes great and cant be bought anywhere else! Also their portion sizes are large which is nice. One thing I cannot speak about is the cheese because I have never tried it! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and my daughters loved several of the cheeses. They made pretty significant purchases which is a strong indicator of their joy with this discovery. Where we live vegan cheese is as scarce as hen's teeth, so it was wonderful to find this vegan speciality shop on our visit to family in Austin. We didn't try the food menu but we noticed a couple of items had a gluten free option. I noticed a wine display through the window (inside is off limits for the pandemic) and snagged a promising looking organic Chardonnay at what I thought was a reasonable price, assuming the quality works out. A big thank you to Piper as she helped guide me through the artisan cheeses and helped in my final selections, excellent customer service. Stopped with a friend after visiting the farmer's market on Sunday. We each got a mimosa and shared the cheese plate. The cheese plate was better than I imagined. We had not tried any of Rebel's cheeses before. Our board came with pepper jack, ash chèvre, and a sun dried tomato cheese. I've had Rebel Cheese products before but this was the first time I was able to travel to the shrine of vegan cheese. I wish I'd gone at a time to have a sandwich and glass of wine but I may have exploded with joy! At least they didn't make me feel guilty about tasting a bunch of cheeses! I was blown away! The counter help was super helpful and nice. I also like that there are shelves of other fancy food goodies - vegan shortbread cookies and chocolate covered "honey" comb candy? Be still my heart! Delicious. Rebel Cheese by far has the best vegan cheese I've ever eaten. You wouldn't know it is non-dairy. Flavor was perfect and texture was on point. The Bacon Brie and Me sandwich was amazing. I didn't have high expectations but was blown away. Not sure how they get the bacon to be so tasty but I don't want to know. Wish we had ordered more to eat. I've made chickpea salad and enjoy it and the chickpea salad didn't disappoint, it even gave me ideas for my own salad. I can't wait to return to Austin to try more on the menu. Quarantine Experience: Ordered over the phone and was able to pick up within 15 minutes. They have a pick up table outside the store where they put your order and then text you. So I would arrive a few minutes early so your food isn't sitting outside for long. The food though is DELICIOUS. Some of the best vegan cheeses and meats. As a vegan I rarely buy sandwiches because they don't often compre to a sandwich I would have before. But these are so satisfying. We've been to Rebel a lot this past year, and it's consistently good. If my husband asks me what I want for dinner, my answer is probably going to be Rebel. I love Caesar salads and it's been really hard to find a good vegan version. But Rebel's is amazing and the one I measure all salads against now. The sandwiches are also really good. My go-to if I'm feeling like a sandwich, is the Caprese. My husband usually gets the Turkey Club or Bacon, Brie, Me. All three are really good. I'd love to see a veggie sandwich added to the menu. I know they have one as a special sometimes, but I'd love to see it as a permanent option. Their cheese case selection is impressive and delicious. When we get cheese, we generally get at least 3. They are exclusively offering take-out curbside, but it's great. This is my plant-based go-to right now. They are always so friendly and the food is awesome. Delicious! I have a vegan friend who kept raving about Rebel Cheese so I finally made my way to Mueller to try it. I didn't order ahead of time so I did have to wait outside for them to make my order, but that's on me. I tried the "Bacon, Brie & Me" which I got because I miss Brie a lot. Bacon, not so much. But the "bacon" here was delightful! The fig jam was a wonderful touch too. All served on a big french bread roll and served with a pickle spear and your choice of salad. I got the pesto pasta salad. At $15 a sandwich, this is a bit steep, but I *was* able to eat a half for lunch and the other half for dinner, so that makes the price more reasonable. We tried to go today, and the place was packed, with at least 15 tickets up for the cooks. We waited in line for about 15 minutes, and when we finally got to the counter, they said they weren't taking lunch orders for another ten minutes at 2pm. The only option was to get out of line, go to the back, and wait through the line again to order. It seems very disorganized and chaotic, but the food looked delicious. I've been four or five times now - this place is absolutely amazing - tons of different vegan cheese to try, sandwiches, desserts, and fun little grocery section of accoutrements for purchase. Enter Rebel Cheese - from the moment you walk in you are greeted with a display of fresh cheeses that encompass the entire spectrum of cravings. Everything from a sharp cheddar to more complex flavors like blue cheese that have traditionally been difficult to produce vegan analogs of. The menu items look much like your average deli, but with a playful vegan twist to the names of the items. I got the 'BACON, BRIE, ME?' and the 'THE JALAPENO MELT' - both were excellent. 'THE JALAPENO MELT' had an interesting hint of coconut that worked surprisingly well. The real star of the night for me was the Brie cheese in the 'BACON, BRIE, ME?'. I can't remember what actual Brie cheese taste like anymore, but the Rebel Cheese rendition had so much sophistication to the flavor and texture that I will blissfully continue to not remember what the dairy counterpart tasted like and satisfy my taste-dejavu with many return trips. The veggie bacon was just a bit overdone and tough for my preference, but not enough to detract from the rest of the experience. Rebel Cheese is a bold new venture that invites its guests to rethink what is possible in plant based cuisine.
