I've previously been to Rebel Dog's locations in Farmington and East Hartford. This afternoon was my first time dining at their Plainville location. I actually had no idea this was also a tavern/bar. The Plainville location of Rebel Dog was very busy today, they had trivia going on. I first got their Salted Caramel Toffee Latte. This was as expected pretty sweet, but still solid. We got the garlic flatbread to share. This garlic bread was very pouffy and cheesy, but it lacked garlic. The arugula salad was very light and fresh, it had crispy almonds and chickpeas all over. I got the Winter Chili Grain Bowl. This was very satisfying on a winter day. The chili was tender and offered just a bit of heat. The corn on it was crunchy, there was a small scoop of a grainy salad and some fresh avocado. Overall we were all satisfied with our visit at Rebel Dog. I thought it was a bit odd that they close at 4:00 o'clock everyday.

Boy, wish we stayed awhile and grabbed brunch. We were in the area and dropped in at the Rebel Dog in Plainville for a coffee. I go to their Farmington location a lot and was expecting this spot to be similar... Nope, it's a full restaurant! The space is very big, broken up into a few sections; the coffee shop, a lounge area, tavern/restaurant with bar. Serving up breakfast favorites like eggs benedicts, toasts and lunch offings like burgers, salads and pizzas. The coffee shop was really nice and not busy at all for an early Saturday morning. The staff were lovely and talkative while we waited for our drinks. We ordered a couple of their seasonal drinks; honey lavender latte and cannoli latte. Both were very good and had a lot of flavor. I hope to swing by soon to experience the tavern!
If you're coming here for brunch, get a reservation! It was the difference between having a table ready for my group, versus sitting on the (covered) porch. There is a parking lot with one row of parking immediately in front of the building (with handicapped spots), and a larger lot in back. The interior is very clean, very wood with a good amount of space between the tables. The menu is pretty varied but if you like brunch, you'll be happy. My Nova Scotia Benedict was delicious - I only wish I had more Hollandaise sauce. The eggs were also a little well cooked, but the fish and avocado were very well balanced. The upgrade of potato pancakes (as opposed to English muffin) was well worth it, and they added more flavor instead of soaking up all the sauce and had a little crunch.

This was our first time here. The waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. I ordered off of the seasonal menu. I ordered strawberry pierogis for the table and a chicken apple sandwich with chips. My friends ordered eggs Benedict. I ordered the ginger bread coffee. I unfortunately do not recall what my friend had ordered her coffee is the woman with the decorative design.. my other friend ordered the Peru, which was pretty good. I love the atmosphere, and the music was fantastic. A great rotation of music. I'm a sucker for good food and good music at the same time. We got seats within five minutes of being there. I definitely recommend it.
i've been coming here for years and it's been such a consistent staple. i can't speak for the tavern part but the coffee shop area has some nice seating options (though can be full on weekends), wifi, and good natural light from the windows (i've spent many hours working there on my laptop if you couldn't tell). the coffee is yummy and they always have great specialty latte options which is the true mark of a cool hipster coffee shop. plus plenty of parking and a convenient location. also can't leave this review without shouting out the iconic dog logo you get on every cup
Definitely a different vibe from the one in Farmington. I think I'd like this location better. They have a tavern attached to the café . I met a friend for lunch and we were able to have breakfast around 12 o'clock which I thought it was great. They actually serve breakfast until 3 !! How awesome is that. Very modern casual, there were a lot of families with young kids but the noise level wasn't that bad. Lots of choices for drinks and a very good amount of choices for breakfast I thought. I ended up ordering the Santa Monica eggs Benedict and my friend wanted a veggie omelette which wasn't on the menu but they were very happy to accommodate. Our waiter/bartender was very nice!! I wish I remember his name. I order a hot tea which they brought into my old little tea pot !!How cute was that!!Love it!. We didn't feel rushed which was awesome and I will definitely go back.
My rating is only based upon my black iced coffee order: I am an iced coffee drinker (black) and a bit of a coffee nerd who reads many National coffee roaster Best Of and Award Lists. I order a lot of coffee from those roasters and home brew. I'm interested in the details about a coffee's roaster, origin, processing method and other factors. I recently went to Story and Soil Coffee in Hartford. They had a board that identified the source of their iced coffee that day. It was the first time I've seen that. It listed the roaster (National award winning CT roaster Giv), the country of origin (Ethiopia) and the processing method (natural as opposed to washed). This profile matches my tastes. I then had a good conversation with a person who I think was an owner about that coffee. The iced coffee was great - bright, with terrific fruit notes. For me, that is now the 5 Star gold standard for iced coffee. You've got to pick a great one, brew it well and be able to confidently tell me about it. I stopped by Rebel Dog Coffee ("RDC") today. There was no sign about the source of the iced coffee, but I asked the person taking my order about the iced coffee details. She initially said that she didn't know what kind it was, and then said she thought it was their "dark roast". I asked if it was roasted by Irving Farms, which I'm not familiar with, since I saw Irving Farms bags on a shelf. She said yes and thought that it was the Gotham variety, which is a blend rather than a single origin. It was a friendly conversation, but I didn't feel like I was talking to somebody who was very knowledgeable about RDC's coffee products. The RDC Gotham dark roast blend iced coffee was good, but not great. I prefer light-medium roasts. It was a well-balanced dark roast and wasn't over-powering. The aftertaste had hints of tiramisu. This iced coffee was better than the iced coffee served by most places, but, for me, not on par with the Giv Ethiopian iced coffee served by Story and Soil. RDC has a very cool menu with interesting pizza and sandwich offerings that I look forward to exploring, but it gets 4 Stars for my iced coffee.
I stopped in here with my husband while running errands in the area to get a small snack and coffees to go. Boy am I glad we did! They had a really great drink menu with breakfast and some lunch foods as well as some snacks. I was so excited when they told me that the match latte was actually made with matcha powder and not with the syrup, I hardly ever find a place that does this. The pricing was reasonable and the quality was high. Additionally their chocolate coconut donut was delicious! Definitely recommend a stop in.
I have come back here for coffee a few more times since my initial visit in 2019. Each visit has been better than the last, especially when you focus on the coffee. But I haven't ordered a cold brew or food since. But my review definitely needs to be updated. I've gotten several lattes since and they have been great! Just this past weekend, we tried their Dunkaroo Latte which has been a special a few times. It was tasty and such a fun flavor! It didn't really taste like a dunkaroo, but moreso like the frosting. It was so good! They had a bunch of other "throwback" flavors too, what a great idea!
Best coffee I've had since coming to CT - cold brew and drip coffee were both excellent. We also really enjoyed our food - corned beef hash skillet and Nova Scotia Benedict. Would recommend!
Quaint coffee shop with counter service and adjacent tavern. I got the tuna salad sandwich with gluten free bread and a side of the maple coffee rubbed tots, and both were very good. For coffee, I got the nitro cold brew with their seasonal cold foam, which was blackberry flavored. It was tasty but the ratio of coffee to foam was a bit off, with only about half the cup filled with coffee and the rest foam. You can either order at the counter and seat yourself in the little cafe area, or sit in the restaurant for full service. I'd definitely return if I was in the area. read more
This cafe is so cute. The service was very friendly. Staff was knowledgeable about vegan options. I ordered the smore's mocha latte with hemp seed milk and the falafel sandwich with vegan tahini drizzle. Both were delicious! I like how the cafe is a separate from the tavern. Quick stop here today with the family! Our waitress was accommodating to my mother who had gotten surgery recently. She offered alternatives and options that fit her health so that was great. This has become mine and the Mrs' Saturday morning ritual after dropping the daughter off for soccer. We get 1/2 hr before the game starts and rebel dog is the place to be. The cappuccino with skimmed milk in a real cup is my go to and the Mrs bounces back and forth between a coffee and hot chocolate. We also share a breakfast sandwich which always has grilled onions and banana peppers. Quality and Delicious. The service is prompt, and the atmosphere is a rustic cozy which I'd choose every-time over any Starbucks. Will definitely have to try the bar and lunch someday. read more
Wow just wow! So I stumble across this place on a Saturday morning. I needed coffee, so much I was like a zombie walking into this place. Walk in and Girl says to me coffee or dinning? This zombie says yes, I don't know is this a coffee place? It was at that moment she knew I needed help. So I walk to the coffee shop side and as she walks away says, "we have a great brunch you should try with coffee sometime." So I look at the pretty girl behind the counter and say next time. The brunch has called. This place was so on point that I told my brother about it and came back later that day for coffee and then again the next day. You heard me 3 times in 24 hours. The beans, although not roasted in house are definitely picked from an amazing roasting company. The food tasted like they went to the roof to pick all the herbs and went out back to grab the eggs. And oh my Lanta and all the angels on earth the Eggs Benny was out of this world!!!! Steak, tomatoes, arugula, Gouda, avocado, hollandaise...just check out the picture it was so mouth watering amazing. Oh and it was all on a croissant like yes oh my goodness YES!! then a cortado with latte art like come on people. If you aren't enjoying the atmosphere and the food with great coffee then you just aren't living. I've posted pictures of everything I eat and it was all to live for. Because who wants to die and not get to enjoy this stuff another day?! read more

I enjoy this place so much. On top of them having great lattes and food, it's a very chill spot to get work done or just simply people watch. My fave drink from them now has been the Iced Oat Milk Pumpkin Spice Latte. On my last visit, the barista recommended for me to try the Oaxaca Egg Benedict and it was SO DELICIOUS. read more
I took out lunch from here on a Monday. Monday they have bogo offer for lunch, which is amazing. Seared salmon was my favorite. Risotto side went well with it. Chicken parmesan was another good one. Portions were adequate. Their take out system deserves special mention. You pay for it, and then the take out food is brought from the kitchen piping hot. In all other places, they keep prepared food outside, food gets cooled to a bad texture. read more

On 6-12-22 we came for a brunch and our server was Natalie, she was amazing. Very attentive and friendly. She made our dinning experience feel more like a family visit than a restaurant. The hostess Gina was like seeing a friend you have seen in a while. She makes you feel like you've known her for years. read more

Greatest happy hour around! This is my jobs go to for after work happy hour and now I know why! The drinks are STRONG and the food is so good! The prices are pretty good as well so you leave feeling satisfied and not broke, not to mention you can leave with a good latter to cure that drink hangover! Their the best of both worlds! read more

Okay so I don't drink coffee. But we stopped in and ate at the tavern side. We sat at the bar and our bartender was amazing. Super friendly and very personable. I hate that I don't remember her name. As for the food. We hade some street tacos for an app, delicious. I especially love the steak one and then we had dinner. Oh my goodness I'm still thinking about this dinner. The salmon was amazing. So delicious. Perfectly cooked. I'm ready to go back now. read more

We have been going to the Tavern for years and the food and service are always top notch. Favorite apps include sesame cauliflower, Korean bbq boneless wings and garlic bread. The paninis are amazing because they are on homemade bread from the pizza dough - and the pizza is decisions!! (I love the mashed potato!!) Tacos are divine and the steak tacos are so tender you bite right through the steak. Drinks are always generous and well made. Can't say enough! But.... We recently stopped at Rebel Dog for breakfast (three times in a week!) and the bagel sandwiches are fresh made and the everything bagel has just enough "sprinkle" on it for flavor without being overpowering. The EGGS BENEDICT is amazing! So many varieties! Raspberry lime pound cake is perfection and the coffee is excellent. Rebel Dog is perfect any time of day! read more

Surprise! Surprise! This is one of those local spots you hope to find when visiting a new city. Intimate footprint. Small focused menu. Good product, knowledge and service. Overall a great experience I'd highly recommend. They source their coffee from a local roaster a few hours away in New York, and have a wide variety of offerings, covering different regions and processing methods. I got a natural Ethiopian coffee done as a pour over. It was sweet, so delicious, and the perfect compliment to the Oaxacan eggs benny we tried. We hacked the menu and subbed their house made potato pancakes for the English muffins. #GlutenFree Yep. Gluten free! The Oaxaca had a black bean mash, avocado, a perfectly poached egg and some carnitas! That's all if memory serves - this could be totally wrong but it was effing delicious! In my journey to look for the best coffee shop for Yelp review writing in central CT, I have tried many a place ranging from Hartford Baking Company in West Hartford to Silk City Coffee in Manchester. I am happy to say that I may have found a new favorite in Rebel Dog Coffee of Plainville. Co-located with a steakhouse, the exterior is unassuming and the entrance may be a bit confusing, but once inside, you know this is a formidable coffee shop. To start off, Rebel Dog has both amazing food and drink. Some standout items include their large selection of eggs benedict and creative sandwiches. I personally had their "Nova Scotia" eggs benedict which consisted of salmon and avocado paired with a pillowy English muffin and a perfectly soft-boiled egg. This was complemented with a homemade pierogi and a caffe mocha to help cut some of the fattiness. The mocha was not too sweet and carried the characteristic bitterness associated with high cocoa content chocolate - utter perfection. As I mentioned earlier about Yelp-writing or getting work done vibes, Rebel Dog has plenty of seating, fast (and free) wifi, and wall sockets aplenty. The atmosphere has just the right amount of noise that can be dulled out with some headphones. Better yet, they are open until 6PM on Sundays unlike most coffeehouses - my ideal day for getting work done on my laptop. Good food and drink coupled with a friendly staff make Rebel Dog my future coffeehouse spot! read more

Disappointed. Someone had spoken so highly of this business, yet the one Farmington. I was disappointed, to say the least. I ordered a to go turkey sandwich and decided to eat it on site. The sandwich had pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo turkey lettuce grilled on flatbread. The flatbread was very thick and there almost wasn't enough of the chipotle mayonnaise or turkey to really make a statement. I chose the side of quinoa salad and it was literally three bites. Please see my pictures the staff was rude. Other than that, everything was great. read more

Went in for the first time on a Sunday morning, it was insanely busy to the point there was no parking left. We ordered coffee and food at the counter and decided to sit. Cannoli latte came out very quickly (I was surprised with how busy it was) and was delish. The food took a while to get to us, probably 20 minutes, but it was worth the wait. I had a Rueben sandwich and it was amazing! Good sauce to bread ratio. Definitely gonna be back read more
