I visited with my husband a few weeks ago. I am not really a matcha drinker, but a friend of mine told me to try it any way. I ordered the one with fruity pebbles and it was quite delicious. I would be interested to try a coffee drink next time, but I did enjoy the drink. My husband had the cold brew and enjoyed it. We also split an everything goat cheese croissant which was amazing. The vibes in here are great and cute. When we got there, there wasn't a line, but one did seem to form shortly after. Ours at least did come quick. I'm definitely looking forward to coming again!

I decided Mother's Day was a good time to visit for the first time, and based on the line out the door, I could tell it's popularity hadn't died down at all yet. It's a beautiful space and a beautiful neighborhood and as it happened to be a beautiful day, I couldn't have asked for anything more. The staff was very kind, the drink choices were varied enough, and the presentation is impeccable. I found it difficult to find a menu online in advance. I understand that they rotate their drinks, and I didn't want to set my heart on something that would not be available. The menu is on the counter, and fairly small print. I could only read it when I was third in line. I saw people enjoying beautiful concoctions as I waited to order, but couldn't figure out what was what. For example, the alma mater iced Matcha latte is blue! The description is Matcha with vanilla. How would I know that that's the blue drink? Just something to keep in mind. Enjoy a roll of the dice or ask around in advance.

With just one visit I'm smitten. Service friendly. Vibes relaxed and unpretentious. Although they could boast how smooth and tasty they curate their matchas. I'm not a matcha connoisseur by any means but I've had matcha and then i had THIS matcha. Easily top 5 matcha drinks I've ever had. I really hope they offer a matcha flight one day so i can try more in one sitting. Looks like the menu changes from time to time and i was so happy that the Ube Shortbread was on menu when i visited. It was so pretty! Dunno if my pictures could really capture how this place made me feel but i hope you get the same feel when you visit. Cheers!

Adding Recess to my list of favorite coffee and matcha spots in Indy! I got the Molly Monkey (cold brew) and the That Girl (matcha). The service was absolutely fantastic! I was a bit nervous about how the service would be because I went around noon on a work day to grab a coffee and matcha and the line was out the door. I should not have worried at all. Their limited menu helps them be really fast and the line moved surprisingly quickly. Their limited menu also helps make ensure that everything they offer is incredible! I am not always the biggest fan of matcha, but I think that is in part to the quality of matcha at some stores. The matcha at Recess is a beautiful dark green that blends into a beautiful lighter green when mixed with the milk. I think I still may have preferred the Molly Monkey, but that is because I am partial to banana! I'll have to try the Banana Split next time. The interior is stunning, but the outdoor space is also really nice! There were people working, but also people just using the space to socialize too. I did ask a woman sitting outside with her laptop if the wifi extended to outside as I was thinking about coming back tomorrow to work outside for a bit, but she said she had to use her phone's hotspot. That's not a big deal at all, I am just including it as an FYI! I will have to go back soon and pick up some of their matcha!

Cute, trendy and Indy's first matcha bar. The twenty something's are all hanging out here! Matcha is not always my thing - it's very earthy and I usually think it tastes like grass but apparently if it's done well, even the casual matcha drinker can find something they like. I ordered the "It's My Jam" off the seasonal menu. The matcha was layered with berry, milk and that beautiful green tea and topped with a lemon. The flavors were very nice. Not too sweet but very balanced. My husband also liked it (he usually likes matcha). Downsize is the hefty price tag. This drink was almost $10. I know they import their matcha and it's supposedly better quality so you are paying for that. But that means, for me, this can only be a once in a while stop because that is pretty steep for a drink. Everyone was very pleasant and nice, which created a welcoming atmosphere. I'll be back, just won't be a daily stop due to the price tag on those drinks.

Stopped by recess while driving through Indianapolis, as I saw on TikTok that they have very good matcha! I was not disappointed! My mom and I got the banana bread matcha latte and the blueberry lemon matcha! The flavors were well balance and the color was good. I'd give the banana matcha a 7 and the blueberry lemon matcha an 8. The line was quite long on a Sunday afternoon and the line moves slowly but they make each one to order so that makes sense. Staff was friendly. We had no problem finding street parking but there is no parking lot. There is some indoor and outdoor seating!

It's so cozy in here that one of these days they might catch me setting up shop to live in the little sofa corner for a bit. How would they know? The matcha is dark green as God intended. God could theoretically be a girl and all girls know good matcha. I took time to enjoy my berry matcha. My partner slurped his banana matcha at a disrespectful speed and I think that was frankly rude. Men should learn the drink is not going anywhere and no one will hurt them for taking polite sips.

This place is an absolute vibe! The interior is incredibly cozy, chic, and filled with great energy, making it the perfect spot to hang out or catch up with friends. I tried the Reading Rainbow matcha latte, and it was phenomenal, the balance of the fruity, floral matcha topped with that vanilla bean cloud and Fruity Pebbles added such a fun, nostalgic, and delicious twist. The outside is just as charming, and the staff are super welcoming. I don't love matcha myself but whether you're a matcha lover or just looking for a cool new spot to spend your afternoon, Recess is a must-visit!

I'm the new kid on the matcha block but now I'm on the hunt for my favorite in the city! They close at 4:00pm & I made it around 3:45pm (I don't love being that person BUT it was now or way later lol) & despite me showing showing up right before close, they were still very friendly! I would say the atmosphere feels light & refreshing. Perfect if you want to enjoy the weather because they had the patio doors open today. I landed on the banana biscoff matcha latte and it was good. I wish I could have tasted the banana a little more but I enjoyed it. I would get it again.

Finally got the chance to try Recess after discovering that I actually love matcha! I ordered the banana split iced matcha with a vegan donut, and both were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. I'm officially obsessed. The line was a little hectic, but honestly so worth it. The atmosphere is such a vibe -- whether you're hanging outside enjoying the fresh air or inside surrounded by music, art, and good energy. If you're a matcha lover, this spot is definitely a must-try.

This is such a cute place! The aesthetic is really chic. This is my second time having matcha and it was good! I liked it very much. I got one of their specials but was able to try the other ones from the menu since my friends all got different ones. Plus they had an Oat milk option which is a plus for lactose intolerance. The girl at the counter was really sweet. She offered to move some tables for my friend so we could be more comfortable. It can get busy at times with long lined sometimes.

What a cool spot (plus, woman owned). As a new matcha lover, I've been looking forward to checking this place out. When you walk in it gives cozy neighborhood/community vibes. There are only a few tables, with a soft seating area with a couple chairs. I ordered the bananagram matcha which was banana bread matcha and it was very very good. I didn't get a pastry, but learned their pastries are from Three Doll's - another new woman owned biz! Can't wait to go back and try another flavor. Ps - for coffee drinkers, they have cold brew.

Such a lovely first visit here this morning! From the friendly staff to the cozy and charming vibe of the space - I was bummed I had to peel myself away for another meeting. What to expect: -clever matcha creations - think banana bread, sprinkle cookie, s'more, etc. alongside classic matcha offerings -baked goodies from local Three Dolls Bakery -friendly staff -Clean and cozy space with a variety of seating options -location one block off the Monon Trail (Kennedy King neighborhood) Can't wait to work my way through the menu and visit again soon. Congrats to this new business for brining something fresh and fun to the community.

I also really appreciated that when I asked for oat milk, she checked to see if I had a dairy allergy since another ingredient in the drink I chose contained dairy. It was pretty crowded when I visited, and a private event was taking up about half the space, so I'd definitely love to come back when all the seating is open to really enjoy the atmosphere. "Coffee Til Cocktails" truly lives up to its name, with alcoholic versions of many drinks available and the atmosphere transitioning into more of a cocktail bar in the evenings. I'm so glad I finally got the chance to visit this spot and already can't wait to come back!

FYI to those who may have a physical handicap the prevents climbing steps, there are 2 sets of steps to enter the building, I didn't see any handicap accessible entry when I went there. The area to order coffee was really small and could comfortably fit about 5 people in the line inside the ordering station. There were places to stand in the foyer to wait as well, but in my opinion even though there is an open space in the foyer you could be potentially blocking someone's walking space since the ordering station is next to the entrance and the seating areas are in the entryway. I ordered their seasonal From the Past Latte w/ matcha and whole milk. They mentioned that the wait time to receive the drink was 10 minutes, which was understandable with how busy they were, but to my surprise I actually received my drink in half that time. The drink tasted great and if I was still in the area I'd go there again. I definitely noticed for such a small space, the staff were efficient and moved quickly to get everyone their correct orders. The drink was great, the sandwich took way too long to prepare (we're talking 30 minutes, no joke). I was only annoyed bc I was so hungry, other than that- I didn't care about the wait bc I had nowhere to be. Overall- If I was in the neighborhood and craving a yummy coff treat, I'd return- I did really like my drink.

This spot is just off the creek, with a decent parking lot and a drive through. It has a deeper warmer green than a Starbucks, and it draws a much warmer crowd too. We chatted often with the people in this shop! And we visited twice. How welcoming is that? The breakfast burrito is nothing flashy, but definitely warm gooey goodness. What sets it apart is the sauce: creamy, gently spiced, something like a seasoned mayo but not spicy. Coffee, of course, is the backbone here, and it's handled with a kind of calm precision. Our barista kindly alerted my partner and me that a warm blueberry latte would have oatmeal because of course the blueberry curdles regular milk. It was great attention to detail, and it's why we came back again and again during our week long trip. They had a special for every day!
