Same great staff, same cool space, same open kitchen where a party of one like me can grab a counter seat and watch the chefs do their thing. I've honestly always enjoyed that part of the experience. Today I had the avocado toast with feta and an egg on top, and it totally hit the spot. Earlier this week I tried one of the newer menu items -- fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a sample of jalapeño cornbread and Asian slaw. Incredible comfort food. And as someone who normally isn't much of a slaw person, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They also tried to tempt me with the roast beef special, which honestly looked great, but at 10:30 in the morning I just couldn't fully commit to roast beef yet. Maybe next time. The new name is a nice tribute to the owner's mother, Arleen, but thankfully it still feels like the Milktooth so many of us have come to enjoy over the years. I say this despite finding a hair on the plate when I was about 2/3 through. My mussels and fries were not great. The fries were mid - they tasted kind of overdone or as if the oil were old. The mussels were actively bad. The portion (an app) was pretty small. There was hardly any broth/wine and they weren't piping hot. Also, they were actually not tasty and the texture was rubbery. The bread was perfectly seedy with just the right balance of crunchy and soft, and they were generous with the avocado. I especially loved the radish and pickled onions on top. Such a simple breakfast, but every bite was so good. And then there was the pistachio iced latte. YUM. I added whipped cream, which really took it to the next level. Honestly, I'm kind of glad I only discovered this place on the last day of my trip because if I had found it earlier, I probably would have had four of those lattes. Lulled to sleep by outdoor seating options, sporadically tattooed wait staff, and cutesy menu typeface. In all of your bluster, did any of you see the player get sucker-punched? It was me! Five finger death punched by petite portions at pumped up prices. As I rolled on the ground in agony, you looked at yourself. Sure, your outfit was cute and your date was hot and you did a birthday thing and so on and so forth. But let's not forget the atrocity of what sat on our plates! Bluebeard did you wrong and more importantly, did your boy CJ wrong. To close with a separate thought, what are all you ladies dressing up for on a Friday night?
