We purchased a microwave at the beginning of October and scheduled a delivery and installation for 10/26. We were given a four hour window for the delivery/installation and when they finally showed up past the window, the microwave was installed incorrectly. It was not leveled and cabinet door rubbed against the top. Thought this could easily be fixed, but we were met with unkind excuses to reschedule a simple fix including being hung up when I asked to speak to a manager. It's been a while since I made the purchase but I really would like to leave an honest review due to my experience. I don't ever leave reviews however, I often read reviews and find them helpful, so hopefully this review is helpful to someone else. My oven range unfortunately died on me. The oven that was in our home was a drop-in oven range, which can be hard to find so we decided to get it from Recker & Bergenr. We spent approximately $1500 to replace our oven. After purchasing, it took 5 MONTHS for us to receive the oven. Once received, it was the wrong oven. When we called the company to tell them that it was a different oven than the one we purchased, the sales rep Amy Siebenburgen, told us that we should be happy because its an "upgrade" from the oven that we actually purchased. In order to receive the oven we actually purchased, we would have likely had to wait another extended period of time so we kept it. The oven was actually larger than the cabinetry which caused more issues than anticipated, but we made it work. Fast forward not even 3 months later, the oven door fell off for no apparent reason. I am completely disappointed with the customer service and quality of items that we received and would highly recommend not using this company. read more

We had a great experience at Recker & Boerger during the purchasing process. Even after, the sales force was great about adjusting schedules as our new kitchen was being built. Delivery is the reason the review is low. When scheduling delivery, we didn't need the stove brought into the house. We didn't know exactly when the kitchen would be ready for installing the stove. When the stove arrived, we were very put off. The delivery folks refused to put the box in the garage. They were told to leave it in the driveway and that's what they did. There was no flexibility. They left and we had a boxed stove in our driveway. Can I tell you the box was literally right in front of the garage door? Just a few more feet and we'd have been golden, but no. Absolutely no. Thankfully, the folks working on our kitchen were more than willing to move the box into the garage. Had it not been for them, I'm not sure what we would have done. Love the stove. I considered giving one more star, but three stars equals OK, while two stars equals 'Could've been better'. Looking at the entire experience, it really wasn't OK. called for AC Service. Serviceman arrived, but would not listen to me for the symptoms I was experiencing so he only fixed a small part of the problem. Had to call next day for the same issue. Still would not listen that the condensation drain pipe was blocked. Seemed only interested in selling new AC when there was nothing wrong really with mine. charged me for both visits even though the did not correct problem. I have had a couple of bad experiences with R & B. They installed a new heat pump for me and they did a good job installing it. But recently, my system stopped cooling. They charge $199 just to come out. Turns out it was my thermostat. During the visit though, I mentioned I was glad it wasn't the compressor and he said that I would probably have to replace the entire system if the heat pump were to go out because my system uses R22 refrigerant. R22 isn't made anymore and costs a fortune. However, I looked and my system uses the newer R410a as clearly marked on the outside unit. Good thing I looked so I know for next time. Seems he was baiting me for a big future repair cost. I had another issue a few years back. I noticed that the fan was not shutting off. It just kept blowing 24/7. The repair guy told me that it was the thermostat so I replaced that but the problem didn't go away. Then, they said it was the relay, so I paid for that to be replaced. Still no luck. Finally, they determined it was the fan that was bad so the tech put in a new fan. After all of that money and time, the fan would now shut off but I didn't feel anything blowing when the fan was running. Turns out, they installed fan BACKWARDS. That all being said, I have had some worse dealings and lies from other companies so I don't trust any of them right now. It's like they know you are desperate to get the heat or air back on and they take advantage of it. read more

R & B installed a new water heater in 2020; it came with a 1-year labor and 6-year equipment warranty. The unit started leaking, R & B came out (with a $79 service fee to diagnose the issue). After diagnostics, it was determined the unit was bad and needed to be replaced. A new one was ordered - to be delivered the following afternoon. At that point, we were told while the replacement unit was no cost, the labor would be $975 to replace it. Obviously, we said that was exorbitant and price gouging. We called their office in the morning (prior to delivery) - no one was available to talk, so we left a message. The unit was delivered, while being installed another call was made and we got through this time - only to be told, too bad - that's the price to install. The installation was complete, and we grudgingly gave our credit card, and voiced we would dispute the charge. We have asked to talk to the owner - only to be told he doesn't talk to customers. We asked to have someone in management call us back to discuss - no one has. We researched online and through industry professionals, have determined that the going labor rate is $100-$125/hour. R & B's crew was here literally from 11:30 AM - 12:35 PM. We advised that we were willing to pay $250 (2 hours) for labor. We have sent and resent an email to the owner. We were given two additional email addresses - sales@gorb.net and hvacsupport@gorb.net and told that the owner and all of management would receive the email. Every email we have sent has been blocked. Our emails and calls have been professional in manner - not yelling, screaming, swearing, demanding - simply asking for consideration. At the end of the day, their unit failed. We understand that labor is involved. We also understand when you purchase a new unit, they charge you a heavy labor fee at that time. However, their unit failed - why should we be responsible for $975? What does this tell you about the company? They are completely unwilling to talk to the customer and would rather hide behind their office staff and block emails so as not to deal with the issue. What does that say about the character of the company/owner/management team? It's no wonder they have a 1.9 rating from the BBB. We strongly suggest you don't do business with R&B. read more

Appalling Customer Service When our refrigerator died, we went to Recker & Boerger and bought a new high-end replacement. We hoped that being a local business, we would get better customer service than a big box store. We told the salesperson that our kitchen is on the third floor of our house (without an elevator), and he added an additional charge to cover the difficult delivery and installation. We were happy to pay this charge as we realized that getting the refrigerator to the third floor would be challenging. When the refrigerator arrived, the delivery person told us they were unwilling to take it to the third floor and would either leave it on the first floor and not accept any responsibility after that or take it back. As we needed it installed in our kitchen, we had no choice but to ask them to return it. I contacted various people at Recker & Boerger, and they had no interest in helping us find a solution to installing the refrigerator we had just bought from them in our kitchen. Ultimately, they returned our money, leaving us without a fridge. Subsequently, we bought the same refrigerator from The Appliance Loft in Oakley for a slightly lower price. Their delivery team installed it in our third-floor kitchen without damaging our walls, hardwood floors, or the refrigerator. I just got off the phone with randb. My refrigerator installed 4 years ago was not leveled correctly; front left leg leveler not touching the floor, 11/2 inch high. The doors did not line up correctly The salesman did not know what he could do about that. I then stated a service tech said we needed to shim back of ref. I told salesman that this poor installation reflected poorly on his co. Also, a range installed this year was out of level. They need to either clean house or retrain people on customer service. I rarely post reviews like this, but we have been through absolute hell with these people today and I would hate to see anyone have a similar experience as us. Our family visited their location and purchased a GE gas range, and they did not ask us the proper questions about if this would fit with our home. As a result, when the oven was delivered to our house, we discovered this was a gas range that needed 110 voltages. We were unaware of this, and the salesman did not ask if we needed 220 or 110 voltages. We thought both ovens took the same voltage. This was the first problem. The second problem was that they claimed we only had twenty-nine inches to fit a standard 30-inch gas range. There was no gas range ever made for twenty-nine inches according to industry standards. As a result, they did not even try to install the new range because they claimed it would not fit but according to our contractor, it would have. We were noticeably upset, and the installers then left our home without reinstalling the gas line. We called them twice asking them if they could come back and reinstall the gas line. After we asked the salesman on the phone why he did not educate us on the range we needed when we purchased the oven, he told us "I don't need a f*cking lecture from you, you f*cker." He promised we would be refunded on the first call, but by the second call he became very vague. We have never experienced such poor customer service in our lives. They have fantastic prices on appliances and delivery fees, but their customer service is so poor. NEVER AGAIN!!! Tech named "Raj" came to my home for service HVAC. He called after he had left and said he left a tool and will be back to get it. As a single female I was not comfortable having him come back as a red flag went up. I construe it as an excuse to get back into the home. I put the tool on the porch and locked up. When he came back he rang my doorbell and opened my storm door and banged on my inner door for about 10 mins. He went to the back of my house, onto my deck and banged on the back door AND MY WINDOWS! Called 911. He came back to the front of my house and went through my bushes and knocked ON THE FRONT WINDOWS! He went back to the front door and TURNED THE KNOB TO TRY TO COME IN!!! Neighbor came over and told him to get away from my house, police are on their way. Tech sped off. I filed a police report and told the police I never want R&B on my property again. Police spoke to the R&B manager. 2 days later I get a phone call from R&B they're on their way with a new heater!!! I called the R&B manager, Alan, who said "we will not be doing business with you anymore" and I said, "you might want to communicate that to your team b/c I just got a call they were on their way." So many wrongdoings on R&Bs part. Poorly trained employee. Sloppy (drilled holes in my hvac and didn't seal them back up with foil tape) Leaving tools. Harassing a customer. Not communicating with the team they are not to step foot on my property. Hoping "Raj" doesn't come back to my home as a repercussion and do something harmful to me or my house!!! read more

Unfortunately, my refrigerator went out! I came home to all my food being quite squishy, eek!! I was in a bind and needed a refrigerator fast. Home Depot, Lowes, and a few other stores I had checked out-- including Sam's and Costco-- were experiencing back orders due to low stock during Covid19. Some stores would not be able to deliver for about 2 to 3 weeks, while other stores had zero stock. On a whim, someone suggested Recker and Boerger to me. They had one black refrigerator left in stock that fit mine needed measurements. They also had available delivery for the next day! A quick phone call to the store, as well as a physical visit to the location made the purchase extremely easy. The delivery man took my old refrigerator out and installed my new refrigerator, including hooking up the water for the drink and ice feature. They let us know a time frame the night before with a text message, and they called 30 minutes prior to their arrival. Overall, it was a very painless process! Pretty thankful for Recker and Boerger! To get the range that fit my needs, the package included a microwave that wasn't needed. Take it or leave it! At that point I should have walked. My mistake. R&B serviced my heat pump in late fall 2021, the unit was producing a large noise when defrost cycling. After paying almost $600 for charging system, capacitor replacement and special dye to seal any leaks the problem still occurred. I contacted tech who said the noise was normal. I recorded the noise and sent it to him and he said they need to service unit again. They came out and said they would need to order a part and would return the next week. The repair would cost $240/hr in labor plus they wanted $149 for the service call on the unit they never repaired the first time. When I questioned the charge I received a text from the tech to find another contractor. No call from R&B and they wouldn't return my call. This is my first time posting a Yelp review. R & B was my trusted HVAC company for 11 years. I have a heat pump that had been blowing cold air (when in heating mode) and I scheduled a diagnostic today. First diagnosis: low refrigerant due to a leak: $450 plus $100 for dye to do a trace. Potential cost to repair: $2,500. Second diagnostic: a faulty valve on outside unit. Cost to replace: $1300 "if we can find the part and if we do it will take 3-4 weeks to replace." So I receive a quote for an entire new system. I asked "Can the outside unit be replaced?" "We don't usually do that." "But it is possible?" "Will have to ask with the owner (which tech did and the owner would NOT talk to me before the tech called me back." Cost to repair: $3,050. I called to get a second opinion. Faulty valve. Cost to replace: $329.00. Time to receive part: 3 to 5 days. Part located while on site from the manufacturer. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They could have broke my bank. read more

We were immediately greeted by Chris, who walked us to several refrigerators that fit our needs. Chris was friendly, knowledgeable and non-aggressive. We only needed to spend 1/2 hour in the store; and delivery was in two days. The delivery technicians (Andy and Nelson) were very friendly and worked very well as a team. They moved our old refrigerator to our basement, hooked it up and also installed our new kitchen refrigerator. We had some difficult basement stairs, but they maneuvered the tight turn like seasoned professionals. This was our first experience at R&B, and I'm certain we will return. I am very satisfied with Recker & Boerger. I bought a dishwasher by email from Recker & Boerger. I contracted to have them also to remove the old dishwasher and install the new unit. They were to come out two days after the purchase. They arrived on time, looked at how the old dishwasher was plumbed. The new dishwasher hand to be plumbed differently which they could not do. But they had a company that could do that work. I agreed to use them. They left the new dishwasher. Within hours I was credited the installation cost. Their recommended installer showed up the next day and installed the unit and took the old dishwasher away. They were only a little more costly than the in house installer. All in all it worked out well. The only thing that could of been done better is communication as to the possibility that they may not be able to install the dishwasher on their own. I have even written another review several years ago praising the company and especially Jim recker for the relationship we developed with him as real estate investors. We have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years. This brings me to today where we were having a personal refrigerator delivered to our home. Mine you this was a $4000 purchase from Robert at the Montgomery store. Long story short the fridge would not come on for quite awhile and then once it did they can't get the water line to work. A call was made to Robert and I have never had someone talk to us so rudely basically said it is working bc it turned on but the ice maker or water line still won't work. How is that "working?"He has been our rep for several years and knows us very well. He basically told us to go screw ourselves and the tone was anything but professional. Contracted to have a water heater installed. Be ready: they expect full payment before they schedule the job. Technicians showed up wearing masks, soon took them off. Even when they were talking to me in the basement, no masks. I gave them a bath towel to absorb water when they cut the pipe to install the pressure relief valve. The towel got sopping wet, no problem, but they tossed it onto a pile of clean clothes in the basement and soaked all the clothes, then left it there. A laundry tub was 15 feet away, they could have easily put it in there. They leveled the new water heater with short lengths of copper pipe. I sliced myself when I reached down to remove one of the pieces: I had no idea it was supporting the unit. I had to get another tech back to the house to fix that mess. They left shards of brass and copper all over the carpet in the basement. I found a mangled pressure relief valve on the floor after they left and I saw that the valve they installed was also mangled. I know where all the shards came from: I just hope that an hour spent vacuuming the carpet is enough to keep us from getting stabbed by little shards of metal. I called R&B and was transferred to the line of someone named Boerger, I left him a polite message to please call me back about these issues. Two weeks later, no call. Not surprised. read more

In May 2022 I called the company for service for my furnace and AC in order to take advantage of a $79 special charge. I explained that I was not having any problems with the unit, but since we are elderly, I wanted to make sure I have no problems with my AC this Summer. The service man Mike arrived and after examining the unit explained the charge would be $395. (Note: the equipment was 4 years old and purchased from them as were many other appliances in our home) He did not explain exactly what the charges would cover. I complained about the charge because we were not having any problems with our AC. He said that he needed to go to the hardware store to replace his supply of free-on. When he returned he said that he spoke with someone at R&B and would reduce the charge to $295. The next day we discovered our AC was not working. The service man they sent, Josh, examined the unit and discovered there was a hole in the coil with a $1600 service charge to replace it. When doing just that he found a small nail that could have caused the problem. It is a mystery of the origin of that nail. I am a very dissatisfied man and I would like to inform customers that you may be charged more than the price quoted to you. Because of many doubts I will never use this company again. -VR read more

A total ripoff. Called to get service on my water heater. Which I had purchased from them. They informed me the charge to just have a technician show up was $250. Are you kidding me. I told the phone rep I'd find someone cheaper. Their rate is way out of line. I then called the company that services my ac and furnace. I renewed my annual service agreement for $219. This includes 2 tuneups. Trip charge waived. And 15% off all parts and labor. They came, made repair and I paid $66. So for $285 I got a year's worth of service. Rather than$250 for 30 minutes. DO NOT BUY ELECTROLUX/FRIGIDAIRE OR SHOP AT RECKER & BOERGER. Neither company backs up their products or helps out their customers when you get a bad product. In Fall of 2015 we bought an Electrolux Dishwasher from Recker and Boerger. We were told that buying this more expensive model would pay off and we would be getting a much better machine. It started out great. About 6 months in it wasn't cleaning well. We were no longer using the recommended pods, and using liquid detergent. The liquid detergent wasn't dissolving and leaving a coat on our dishes. Particles were being left all over our dishes. We had to clean a third to half a load by hand every time. We had techs from 2 different companies come out and tell us what we were doing wrong, and nothing helped. Finally a tech from the second company came in and figured out one of the previous techs put our filter in wrong and a spray arm was full of debris. He wrote it up as hard water deposits. 3 months later after several calls this part got replaced. With a new part replacement in Dec. of 2016 we started over and the dishwasher cleaning degraded once again. Finally in Aug. of 2017 we started emailing Electrolux and Recker and Boerger. After playing phone tag for 3 weeks I finally spoke with a woman at Electrolux. She wants me to pay for labor to have this machine repaired since it is out of warranty. The machine has a flaw and has never worked right for more than a six month stretch. They want me to pay more money to have this machine repaired since it is out of the warranty period. I don't think I need to pay for anything since it was never correctly repaired during the warranty period. BEWARE ELECTROLUX/FRIGIDAIRE OR SHOP AT RECKER & BOERGER DO NOT BACK THEIR PRODUCTS. THESE TWO COMPANIES HAVE GIVEN ME THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH AN APPLIANCE PURCHASE EVER. STAY AWAY. I say this after being a loyal RECKER & BOERGER customer of 10 years. He did not feel the need to get up from his desk to show us anything, even when I asked for examples/questions about things. He just kept looking in his book on his computer and printing out sheets (which that was appreciated). When we went over to look at the dishwashers which you are not visually able to see from the sales desk -- he yelled from the desk a question to us....as opposed to getting up and coming over to talk. When we went back to finish up about some other items I asked for an additional printout and he now acted as if printing an extra piece of paper was too much. They sent out a salesman to our homeless ask for repairman .my husband who is blind was home at the time .stated it needed to be replaced .sent me a quote on my phone and scheduled a installation the next day .
