The word "blah" basically summarizes our experience at Recreation. The batter on my fish was rock hard and the fish itself was so chewy. The virgin spicy margarita essentially tasted like they put jalapeños in water. The service was ok. The vibes were mid. East 6th is known for great food and drinks so do yourself a favour and don't go to this place. The only thing this place did right was the aesthetic, at least it was pretty to look at.

Big improvement from the previous esthetic. Clean and open atmosphere with glass bifold doors. They have 2 large screens for sports games. More upscale than the average pub. Great for light bites and a cocktail.

Loved recreation for meeting up for dinner and drinks with a friend! Super cute atmosphere, and i have already visited again!

Definitely one of the nicest "sports bars" I've been to in Austin. If you are similar to me, and have a boyfriend who loves to go out and watch football but you never love the drinks at a sports bars or the vibe, this is a great location to add to your watch list. So cute inside, lots of big tvs, and the icing on the cake, they actually have the game sound on. Which not many places do. We did not eat here but they are calling themselves a sports bar so to the reviews that say the food is subpar, I say, it's a sports bar. I'm assuming the food is just as good as your typical sports bar but the atmosphere is much nicer!

Best drinks and an elevated laid back atmosphere to relax. Highly recommend!

Food was overpriced and what you would expect from a concession stand. There was one person working FOH for the whole restaurant.

Eclectic decor, crowd and menu; it was very Austin! Service was excellent throughout and we enjoyed trying several dishes off their menu! Began with a cocktail called Roselite which was both delicious and beautiful then we tried a variety of their dishes! My absolute favorite was their oysters Rockefeller which were some of the best I have had anywhere! The topic was crispy and delicious and they were perfectly cooked! Also enjoyed the half dozen or their East Coast oysters that were delicious. Enjoyed their delicious yellowfin tuna with lemons, capers, shallots and olive oil. The fries and onion dip were also just excellent ! My only let down - and it was barely that as it was so delicious and fresh - was the smoked trout dip! Part of it was a me problem as I was comparing it to my favorite version made by State Bird - a famous eatery in San Francisco where this is one of their go to dishes - and part of it was that this restaurant has that Feankin BBQ tie so when they said smoked - I was looking forward to that smoke forward taste and their was none - but it was fresh, delicious and well prepared! Had a fantastic time here and will definitely go back! Highly recommend Uptown!

We only stopped by for a cocktail, but the menu looks fabulous. We did see some of their entrees, and the burgers looked wonderful. The shrimp cocktail had jumbo shrimp. Keeping with the NOLA theme, they serve po-boys, gumbo, raw Gulf and East Coast oysters, and grilled oysters. There is also a very comfortable shaded patio out back. A return visit to explore their menu is on our calendar. If you are an early bird, happy hour is Tues - Fri 2 - 6 PM.

The sound and TVs were all pretty great for watching the game, and they had a ton of space. It was nice having the fake grass and picnic tables in the outdoor areas because it really added to the vibe while still being well shaded throughout. The food was good. During the game we shared the Fried Pickles, which were crispy and well breaded with good pickle chips, as well as their Green Chili Queso, which was also excellent. The chips had good seasoning and the queso was thick. For a main entrée, I ordered the patty melt. It was melty with good flavor, but I would have preferred chopped onions over sliced onions. The Sriracha mayo was great and added a kick I was not expecting. The drinks were decently priced for East 6th all things considered. I was not drinking that night and ordered a mocktail variation of their Lavender Haze using zero proof Empress gin instead of the regular Empress gin. They still charged the same price, which felt a little unfair, but it is what it is. Overall, it was a great experience and a solid bar for games. I could see myself coming back for another event since they handled a large crowd well. Aesthetically, the spot is really nice too, which adds to the positives. Not bad for a last minute decision. This combo comes with fresh bacon bits on top and chives. We also ordered a mimosa carafe (with pineapple juice) which was only $12! Such a great deal! My meal was great and the servers were such nice gentlemen! There's outdoor seating and TVs inside if you enjoy watching football. This is a very casual place so you don't need to dress up. One of my stipulations for relocation was to be within walking distance of my beloved Nickel City. Guess what? I am! Less than a five-minute walk. I love this place so much. It's not always about drinking. In fact, quite often I'll do mocktails, water, or soda. It's about community and friendship. The vibe at NC can't fully be expressed in words. It has to be experienced. The staff treat locals and tourists like friends. And, if you're lucky enough, you actually become friends. They're like a family. Same can be said about patrons, whether regulars, sometimers, or tourists, everyone feels the love. Everyone just gets it! They have some of the best cocktails around. Some bars can get too rowdy or feel too sleepy, but Chalmers always strikes a perfect balance of good energy and good vibes. It feels like the people who go to Chalmers are the ones in the know. Inside, there is the main bar along with two patios. One patio is larger, featuring food trucks and plenty of long tables for big groups, while the other is smaller and more covered. Throughout the space, there are plenty of TVs, so you always have a view of a game if that is what you are there for. Chalmers feels like a prime sports watching atmosphere. One thing I really like about Chalmers is that it is simply an aesthetically pleasing place to be. The white walls paired with touches of burnt orange make the space feel welcoming and relaxing. There are QR codes at the tables to order drinks without having to wait in line, along with a traditional bar if you prefer ordering in person. There are plenty of cocktail options, including some on draft, around ten beers on draft with more available in cans and bottles, and a little bit of everything else. They also serve their own food and have multiple food trucks on site. I think Chalmers is a prime hangout spot on a Saturday or for watching a big game with a group of friends, and I will be going back multiple times. RIYL: A perfect chill bar.

Unfortunately they're sticklers about playing game sound regardless of the sporting event, its relevance, and the current patrons at the bar who are watching. For example, its Masters week and there's a large majority of people here with their laptops working from the bar (1pm-4pm) and watching the Masters but the Bartender essentially said "there's only 2 people watching the masters and nobody wants to listen to it". Which was just categorically wrong as there's numerous people watching and also a confusing statement as Chalmer's is advertising as a watch party for the Masters? I've had numerous negative experience with this Bartender over various visits as he's extremely rude / seems annoyed to be serving you and especially if you ask him any questions. Other than him, I've had a great experience with the Chalmers staff.
