Sadly overpriced and not very good tasting products. I have visited them at the Pleasantville Farmers Market and bought 1 Jelly donut , and 1 piece of a pizzetti - basically a square of flatbread/pizza. The donut was dry and the jelly was nearly absent. A small dollop of jelly sat on top and when cut open basically not much more jelly existed- 5 dollars for a jelly donut like that?! The pizzetti with kale , mushrooms and an egg was just Ok. Soggy bottom , i heated it in my toaster oven which helped but it lacked seasoning and was bland. I would NOT purchase anything from them again. I almost bought their goat cheese/kale/tomato tart which was 35 dollars - thank god I didnt. I don't mimd paying more for quality - this was awful and I've had store bought that was so much better!!. Very disappointing !!! read more

here's the deal: the food is good, the coffee is decent, the head cashier was kind (seemed a bit green, maybe needs more training, most likely was new staff). what is NOT kind is the brains behind the business. I had the first hand experience today with the manager, who I believe to be the owner of the bakery. Not only was she passive aggressive, she then proceeded to talk down to me as if I was the one who made the error in my order. When I proceeded to ask about multiple errors on my receipt (food had been rung up incorrectly, and we were missing a frittata), she came over and not only told me her menu was TWO YEARS OLD and had WRONG PRICES and the food was actually MORE EXPENSIVE, but then continued to badger me because I in fact owed her more money that was initially asked for to pay for the missing frittata. She then watched to make sure her cashier (who was clearly uncomfortable) ring me for the missing frittata, even though in any other situation, it would've immediately been comped. I have worked in the service industry for numerous years and not ONCE when the business was in the wrong for not adding something to an order was I asked to front the cash. NOT ONCE. I have never been more disgusted with the treatment of myself as a customer in my entire life. I wish I were being dramatic, but I have first hand knowledge from people who have been employed there that the owner is always this nasty. Hence why the regulars probably see new staff in the bakery EVERY TIME YOU GO. Avoid, Avoid, AVOID and go get your gluten free goods at other establishments, like By The Way Bakery in Hastings or Riviera in Ardsley. read more

The owner is nasty to customers and the poor employees appear to be terrified of her. Most customers seem to ignore the conflicts and screaming matches that happen right in front of them. I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews of this place because I absolutely love it here! I'm here at least 3 x week since I do yoga next door to the cafe. Yes, it may be pricey but for the quality of the food, I think it's worth the price. I happen to be gluten free and have some other food allergies and it's very easy for me to find things to eat at this cafe. I wish there were more places that can cater to people with food allergies. Most gluten free items don't taste good but at Red Barn they are very delicious! When I ordered a piece of a "tart", the staff member pulled some off--without utensils, just using her gloves to tear an un-divided chunk with uneven edges, letting pieces of the filling fall back onto the tray--and dropped it in a paper bag, then dropped my next item, a "micro gluten-free cheesecake" on top of it . Both items wound up squished and falling apart within the bag in spite of my caution in holding it, and the taste was only on par with frozen toaster pastries. We visit and shop at the Red Barn very infrequently but have no complaints - not even the prices. Quality is not cheap - that's all there is. Dealing with owner Randell Dodge was always as pleasant as dealing with any of her staff which makes me wonder about some of the strange critiques about her personality. If she is demanding from her staff she most likely just wants her products and the service to be as close to perfect as possible - which successful owner of a business wouldn't? Food tastes good but had issues with it not being heated all the way through and food coming out at different times so can't really enjoy meal together. I tried the baked goods twice. I'm gluten free and was excited to try the scone but it was so loaded with sugar I gotta bad tummy ache. When things are too sweet I can't deal or enjoy the flavor. Next time I tried I asked specifically if there was a high amount of sugar in a muffin and I was told there was a minimal amount. This was not true at all, after paying for the item it was so loaded with sugar even more so than the scone that my teeth hurt and I could not eat it. Not skilled bakers. Not innovative. I never write reviews, but these pies were so expensive and so awful, I feel compelled to do so. I ordered 3 pies for pick up right before Christmas for a family gathering. The first pie I ordered was apple w/salted caramel, I received an apple only pie. It was fine. The second pie I ordered was double chocolate fudge, it was so terrible it was inedible. We called the bakery to complain and they "thought" the baker may have forgot to add sugar. They refunded me the price of that pie. The last pie was pear with ginger. It unexpectedly contained raspberries, but was also terrible because the chunks of pear in the pie were not fully cooked so it was like biting into a hard, raw pear. Not good. I don't know if the bakery was just crazy busy and mistakes were made, but when you bring pies to the hostess and 2 of the 3 are inedible, it is unacceptable especially in light of the prices they charge per pie. read more

I am a big fan of supporting local business and I always try to give them a few chances instead of judging based on one experience because, hey, we all have our days. The positive and negative reviews are BOTH accurate. Simply put, the bakery and the staff have their good days and their bad days. It seems that when the baked goods are fresh, they are awesome. However, if you go back the following or the next day, you will see that the negative reviews are also correct. As a person attentive to hygiene, I have also noticed gloved hands used to handle money and baked goods. In fairness, I see this all the time. I went to the Irvingtion, NY location on a whim and was delighted to see that Red Barn Bakery sold a handful of gluten-free pastries. I took home a poppy seed muffin, a chocolate chip scone, and a blueberry scone, all gluten-free. I could not believe how delicious the gluten-free pastries were. The blueberries in the scone were so fresh they practically burst in my mouth and the chocolate chip scone was divine. The poppy seed muffin was very good and next time I'm there I plan to try the morning glory muffins. Everything was displayed beautifully and there were the most incredible looking pies, savory tarts, and cookies.
