I understand Covid times have made it difficult for small businesses. But why is it that other bakeries seem to have it together and not this place? Granted they may not have a window where you can order from and you cannot enter the store. But they can still develop a system whereby you call the order in, they take the order down and they come out minutes later with the coffee and scone. I've experienced slow unreliable service twice in the past 3 months. I could have driven up the road to Coffee Labs in Tarrytown, gotten a coffee and treat, driven back and still have not received my order from Red Barn. read more

I haven't been to the actual store but we were lucky enough to visit the pop up location at the Lyndhurst museum. The women manning the both was lovely and very friendly. They had so many gluten free options I was in heaven. Before our tour I had some kind of bread with an egg, mushrooms and kale on it, yum! The whole tour I was thinking about the gluten free muffins so when we were finished I went back and got a gluten free raspberry muffin. Very sweet and very delicious. We also got a quinoa muffin that got mixed reviews, my mom and I liked it but my dad was not a fan. Hello fellow Yelpers, I am new to the Irvington community and saw this delightful Red Barn Bakery on the side of the road. I was welcomed by the outstanding hostess, waitress, cook?, coffee maker, and I'm sure a lot more. The poor girl was running around doing ten jobs at once! I think that's just madness..She should either get a raise or maybe they should hire more help. She helped me as best as she could but I couldn't help but feel bad for her. If you come here please be polite and patient with Sabrina (I think thats what her name was) as there is only one of her. Other than the lack of staff on deck, the food and coffee was yummy. 5 stars for the cheddar kale scone. I picked it up at the Pleasantville farmers market this morning. It seemed more like a cheddar biscuit than a scone; super soft and crumbly and teeming with kale and cheddar. It was phenomenal and made entirely with organic ingredients. read more

Just wanted to update my 2015 review. Since 2015 Red Barn has expanded its offerings to include some really delicious savory offerings that you can eat on site (very limited seating) or take away. My favorites include avocado toast on a gluten free bagel, freshly scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and potatoes, and an ever-changing array of salads and soups. Just be aware that this isn't a place where you can snap your fingers and expect immediate speedy service; sometimes, with such good offerings, customer demand is higher than the labor supply and you will need to be patient; but your patience will pay off with yummy goodness. Also: this is an AMAZING SOURCE for made-to-order baked goods containing the highest quality ingredients. Randell, the owner, clearly went to the Hogwarts School of Magical Baking. read more

Not sure what people are complaining about, however, I was recently at Red Barn Bakery and had the most scrumptious cheddar kale jalapeño scone. I live in the area so I'm familiar with the bakery and have been there several times. My experience there have always been pleasant. The owner is so friendly and welcoming and so is her staff, she even took the time to have a chat with me although she was busy. No matter what I order I always walk away pleased. It's very important to support our local businesses so that they survive COVID. I would say to those who find this bakery too pricey, "good ingredients cost $$$". I can't wait to enjoy my visits to Red Barn when the weather warms up and the table and chairs are placed outside. read more

The food the vibe just so unexpectedly over the top & Randell the owner was very warm & welcoming. We stumbled across this bakery while staying at the Tarrytown Estate, for a wedding being hosted at Blue Hill Farm. My brother had gotten sick, and we went out on a venture to find him breakfast since he had missed our meal at the estate. My mother, husband, and I walked into this establishment and ordered a slice of quiche and a grapefruit/orange juice. The owner, asked if we could like the quiche warmed. We politely declined and explained that it was for my brother back at the hotel, and we would warm it there. With a look of disgust she said "he couldn't find his own breakfast?" What?! Why would that be any of her business? My poor mother, unknowing of the venom that was to be spewed, asked the simple question "do you have anything like a croissant to pair with the quiche?".... lord have mercy. The owners head nearly spun off her shoulders as she turned around and with the sharpest tongue, said "we are NOT a French bakery. We are artisan. We don't DO croissants. Well, fine then... twit. So we paid our absurd bill, only for the owner to say "what are you doing for breakfast tomorrow". We answered with " having catered brunch at Tarrytown estate" to which she replies "you should come here for breakfast.". Fat chance lady. How is this place still in business. Disgusted- Mold on the pie- My friend brought over a pie today for dessert that she bought today from Red Barn. After slicing it up and serving it, we noticed green mold throughout the apple pie. We had already eaten a lot of it and are totally disgusted with the bakery. Will never eat there or buy another thing from them. read more

Delicious food and great coffee....quiet dining area and gracious wait staff. I love the place, but it could use some helpful criticism. Bees everywhere. Unless they intend to manufacture their own honey, they would do well to contact an exterminator. My wife and I ordered oatmeal with fruit and nuts and I ordered an omelet. While I don't mind paying extra for a good meal, it should not come as a surprise when getting the bill. The fruit and nuts were ala-carte items added to the oatmeal however when viewing the menu board, they were listed as a single item. The omelet which was very delicious had nothing else with it...not even toast. So while very satisfied with the food here, the details are disappointing if not potentially off putting. read more

In short the poor to terrible customer experience makes it not worth it. Used to live in the area a few years back and frequented this spot almost weekly on the way to work for a drip coffee and a baked-good. I like the quality of the coffee and there was a younger female employee who was always really lovely and so I was fine to pay the high prices. I spent a lot at this place every morning. Unfortunately, the employee was gone abruptly and then there was a revolving door of new employees including the owner, who would serve me. It ranged from confusing- like no posted prices, 20 dollar cc limit staunchly enforced by owner to demeaning. Worst time: Bought a box of "day old scones" asked for a plate to have one, was told there weren't any by a new employee, so sat down at a table with a napkin as a plate. Also, there were other customers with plates so...? The scone was overly dry and basically unpalatable (bc day old, I guess) and broke apart easily. So I put that scone aside and took out another, picked at the top to see if it was equally as dry and inedible. Then the owner walked by and saw the scene of the two day old scones on the napkins- uneaten and the crumbs. She could a) do nothing b) ask if the scones were not OK c) offer a plate or what she did do- d) make this truly disgusted face as she looked down at me and then continue walking... Then I hear the employee as the owner is moving towards her exclaim "what happened, what's the matter?" to the owner, (as in she could she her horrified reaction at my "scone mess"). The owner said, "Oh my god, I can't believe how people act." or something like that. I was sitting right there. Lady just offer me a plate! read more

I hate to give a small business such a low rating but my main issue is there are no prices on any of the items. You gave to ask and they tip the scale on overpriced. The same product they sell I can purchase at the Union Sq farmers market for less and better quality. Who wants to buy a gluten free raspberry muffin and have it fall apart. Lastly, I've never heard of a business having a $20 credit card minimum. $5, $7 and even $10 since it was passed as a law in 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. $20 is blatently against their merchant agreements with Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover - all of which said a minimum purchase amount was not allowed. read more

I would have probably not bothered with a review if I didn't find who I assume to be the owner so rude. Atmosphere: The interior design, and pastry display is beautiful. When I walked in I was so excited to see a full espresso machine, delicious pastries and baked goods and great seats to take in the scene. I envisioned this a great place to have a chat with a friend or sip coffee with a good book. Food: on the spendy side, I spent $38 plus tip but I don't mind if I get top service and the coffee and food are good. We ordered two frittata slices, they were meh and had what I assume must have been no seasoning. Which is a style preference, but not my thing. We also got a cheese bun with kale, this was delicious and I could eat daily. Coffee: We had two lattes. My mom said hers was ok, but mine was so hot I nearly burned my mouth. When it was finally cool enough I could tell she burned the milk obviously from making it so hot, (use thermometers they have them specially made for steaming milk), and the shot was not pulled well. I couldn't drink it. Staff: the young lady who started our service was cheerful and friendly though a bit slow. She was more concerned with starting to help the people behind us than finishing our order and ringing us up at the register. We sat in that coffee shop for about 45 min in total so I got to see this is their process. She offered to heat the fritattas and after waiting for more than 10 min I had to go ask for them, when she gave them they were cold obviously not heated at all, but we didn't complain. She told me the other lady would be out to make our coffee. It took 20, 20 minutes from ordering to finally getting our order and paying. There was no one in front of us. All food was already made. That's a ridiculous amount of time. I will try to summarize. Who I assume is the owner by the way the young girl refused to make eye contact with her, spoke to us with distain, I saw her roll her eyes at a couple who just wanted to read a menu and not listen to her ramble off her $15+ breakfast items when all they wanted was muffins. When I asked for a vanilla latte she told me they didn't have vanilla. So I asked her if they had any syrups to which she took a dramatic pause. Sighed exasperation and replied I kid you not "we are not Starbucks..." Um rude much lady? First of all most small artisan coffee shops have flavors. In the end she admitted she had simple syrup and could add vanilla powder to the latte. She also magically made a mocha for the woman behind me. If you talk about your espresso being so amazing maybe you should learn how to pull a shot and not burn your milk. I guess that wasn't short at all but this has got to be one of the rudest shop owners I have met. And honestly I could have forgiven ALL of this if her coffee was good. But I had to throw it out not being able to drink three sips. Safe to say, I will not be back. read more

Every time I go to this place they have 2-3 people working at a time, yet no one is actually doing anything! The owner is also pretty rude and just overall not a well-run establishment. I really wanted to like this place. They sell gluten free products at the local farmers markets and since I have a gluten allergy, I wanted to support them. On my first visit to the bakery I ordered a gluten free breakfast cookie. They are massive. Unfortunately, half way through it I realized they'd given me a regular breakfast cookie with wheat flour. For anyone with this allergy, they know the digestive outcome of eating gluten is not pretty. Mistakes happen but when I called the owner to let her know, I was shocked at how hostile and unapologetic she was. A shame they're treating customers so poorly so early in their business. read more

I've seen and purchased Red Barn baked goods before at stores and farmer's markets and it's always been good, especially the gluten free muffins (my husband loves "normal" baked goods, my son and I are gluten free). Today we found the Irvington bakery with its lovely outdoor seating, yummy baked goods, great gluten free options, and a nice, tho limited, breakfast menu. There were no prices or typed up menu, so we had to ask a lot of questions. The young woman at the counter was lovely and patient, and made suggestions and accommodated our requests with a smile. I got the avocado toast on a gluten free bagel (not really a bagel, but it had a great mouth feel) and a fresh green juice. My husband got avocado toast with an egg on baguette and an iced coffee. All delicious! We sat outside and enjoyed our food and the whole experience. I'm sorry others are writing about such rudeness but we experienced none of it. We'll definitely come back! read more

I usually don't bother writing reviews even when something is absolutely amazing. But this is an exception. I paid $17 for a key lime cheesecake and carrot (cake?) muffin. These are NYC prices, but they looked nice enough so I imagined it would be worth it. However, this is the worst muffin I have ever eaten in my life. The one bite I took tasted like carrot cake flavored dirt. There was absolutely no moisture in the muffin. The cheesecake was okay even with the strange texture in the crust. Also, the women working at the time were very rude and talked me to as if to rush me out as soon I walked in. This was a huge disappointment and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Don't waste your money here, there are many other lovely shops around that are more worth your time and money. read more

I recently stumbled on Red Barn Bakery at the farmers market on July 30, 2010 at Blue Hill Stone Barns. I love blueberries so it was hard to resist buying a warm blueberry galette. I carefully held my galette like a little baby as I traveled by train back to Manhattan and when I arrived home I dug in using a knife and spoon. They also sell French macarons which are surprisingly very good for a non-French pâtisserie (I'm a bit of a macaron snob). I like this place. I like the selection. I have sampled many items from here - all delicious! The macarons are an absolute must! Since the gluten free selection is not dairy free, a favorite for me is the cheesecake. I have also had a lemon tart from here which I absolutely loved. The service has never been anything other than friendly during my visits. I recently had the pleasure of meeting the owner - who is spoken of so harshly by others here. Noticing that our family had not been by in awhile, she offered her sincere expression of sympathy upon being told that we'd had a death in the family. If she were as awful as that, she would not have noticed our absence to begin with. She has never been anything other than gracious toward my daughter, who is a frequent customer.
