This is my regular vet. I've been coming to this location since I was kid and it was on the opposite side of the street. With that being said, i hate writing a bad review for this place. My elderly cat got arthritis in his back leg and they recommended a shot to help, Solensia. It helped after the first shot, but then he got progressively worse. He woke up one morning and would growl when he would try to stand. I knew it was time for him to be put down. I called the clinic to see if they had any appts and they said no. I told them it was an emergency and he could be seen as an emergency walk in. The front staff said no. I didn't know they could turn away emergency clients, but they did. The whole experience was so disheartening. I was already stressed bc I knew I had to put my 15 yr old cat to sleep, my cat was moaning in pain, and the clinic I've been taking my pets to just said no. She didn't even bother to put me on hold and ask. Im not saying I won't be back, but I'm saying when you're dealing with animals in distress, try harder. read more

All I'm going to say is that they were so amazing and comforting, I had to put my Winston down and it broke my heart and I just was beside myself, they just were very loving and caring, Dr. D was so awesome Thank you so much it helps to know that in time of just great sadness of losing a beloved Pet (family member) that I didn't feel alone. read more

I am a Min Pin rescue and all of my annual or simple veterinarian needs are handled by the Houston Humane Society. I am struggling to find a good local vet for my emergencies or needs which would be delayed trying to get in to the HHS. Deer Park became too expensive when they moved. Spencer Road skimmed my credit card my only visit there. And today I came to you with a senior dog bleeding so much from the mouth she is ingesting it and then pooping it lout loosely. I knew that walking in the door and explained that to the girl she pooped on while being carried from the blood work. I fully understood when I walked in the door, my dog lost a lower incisor and it was bleeding more than I was comfortable just letting it bleed and heal. When the doctor walked in to see me she said the problem with my dog was not the mouth bleeding, but the lower Gi tract with the diarrhea. She said that is my bleeding, and not the mouth. We need to focus there. To which I replied "So the missing tooth, the blood where the tooth was located last week, the dried blood all over her mouth and nose, the long clotted blood drip she had hanging from her mouth this morning, the dried blood on her arms and neck have nothing to do with why she has the diarrhea?" and she pretty much focused at first on stopping the bloody diarrhea and not the heavy loss of blood in the mouth which is creating the diarrhea she wants to stop. After she let what she saw and what I said sink in, she seemed to reluctantly treat the bleeding mouth problem. Then, I had so much blood coming out both ends of my dog, and it took you 2 different attempts to get enough blood for the heartworm test while I was there. All of this on my first visit, to see if you can be my go to local veterinarian and save the trip to HHS. I take the time to write all this, so you might understand why some people are not coming back after their first visit. Sure the building is nice and new, but the inside is the part that matters. Today was not a good visit for me. A visit where I walked in the door trying to make it easy on you to know what was wrong. I even brought photos of the blood and how she would lay with her head hung and the blood pool on the carpet. The assistant said to show them to the doctor. I doubt the doctor even looked when i held my phone up. If she did look, I'm sure i would feel as if she paid attention to me and communicated as well as I was communicating to your staff. The visit bothered me enough to sit down and write this to document my visit. I hope this helps you listen to your patients and understand some of us do know what is wrong with our pet when we walk in the door for your help. read more

Unfortunately, my mother's cat died while being neutered. While on the phone with her they told her she didn't get the optional blood work. She was not properly informed of the risks and benefits of blood work and was told the cat is 3 yrs old and would be fine. When I went to go wrap everything up and get the details on the matter I was not confronted with any compassion from the veterinarian. We waited almost an hour and a half with our dead cat for him to talk to us. He pointed blame on everyone else and accused her of not being able to read documented wavier she was never given to read in the first place. No one should ever tell someone who is not educated in medicine that getting blood work is optional before having a procedure. Going under anesthesia is a high risk procedure no matter what and they led My family to believe it wasn't needed and now our cat is dead. This is a very simple procedure that no family member should ever have to worry if their pet will return home after. This vet also, diagnosed my brothers cat with a UTI and he died a week later and then the vet offered his foot as a keychain. Edit: After speaking with my personal veterinarian who specializes in cats, the blood work listed on the form he accused my mom of not being able to read would not have found the underlying heart condition. She had also provided a lot of answers to the questions I had that were never answered. At this point in time I still would not recommend this establishment. Nothing will bring back our boy and there was nothing that could have been done BUT the way the veterinarian handled the situation was very unprofessional, degrading, and just rude. When something this catastrophic happens, the surgeon should not point blame and should provide some since of care and compassion towards the situation. I still think they should create a true SOP that all the staff in the clinic have to follow so everyone who walks in the door is fully informed on the decisions they are making because this cost a life and it could cost more. read more

I do not recommend this clinic. They are unprofessional and failed to do their job. Our cat was taken to this animal hospital to get neutered and before the procedure they failed to explain that getting blood work on our cat would have saved his life. A routine procedure turned into them killing our cat today. I do not recommend sending your animal to this vet because when we went in to ask them what happened, the doctor placed fault on us saying that if blood work would have been done that this could have been avoided. For someone who is not trained in veterinary medicine, how was I suppose to know the risk? The risks were not explained to me. The doctor then stated "well do you not read ?" He explained that the risks were on the document that we signed, when in actuality after reviewing the document it does not say anything about the procedure being life threatening. Dr. David Kleck is very unprofessional and did not have a sincere bone in his body and wanted to push the fault completely on us. read more

She is so sweet and caring, always has a smile on her face and is genuinely just a great person to be around. I had to make an emergency visit and they were the only clinic around this area that took me in. I called at least 10 different places. Dr. Kleck and the vet techs were super gentle and helpful. They gave me some good advice and my baby some antibiotics. He is feeling much better now and we are happy campers! Will be coming here from now on. read more

Take warning as this vet will blackmail you to pay for exam every time you miss heart work treatment. With some research, it is known that infections take place between 6-12 months of no treatment. We decided to find a new vet that actually cares for our pets. read more

NOT THERE WHEN YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY. Called their office at 11 am on Saturday. Had a Schnauzer that had ingested an unknown quantity of Ibuprofen. The receptionist said the office was closing at 12 pm and they would not be able to see her, that they were completely booked up. I asked to speak to a vet, the receptionist said no one was available and did not not offer any other suggestion than to go somewhere else. If you are doing routine care for your pet, I guess they are do an adequate job, BUT don't expect them to go the extra mile when you have an emergency. read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this hospital and the doctor we saw. I cannot for the life of me remember his name but he was amazing. I was very upset because I was having to put down a small kitten that we rescued and not only was he super understanding, patient and gentle about it, but they didn't charge me afterwards. We have since brought back another cat and he sent us home with food, medicine and a treatment plan which has allowed our kitty to prosper. This will absolutely be our new veterinarian's office. read more

Best vet I've been too. The docs are great, the techs/staff are very helpful and you can tell they love animals. I have two rowdy dogs and there is always a staff member helping me with them when I'm trying to pay at the counter. Prices are very reasonable, too. Pretty bad when the owner has to go in an add a review to try and up the ratings! Dr Sullivan - just so you realize, you have violated my privacy by commenting with your so called version of events regarding me and my pets. BTW, I never missed an appointment but did run late on 1-2 occasions and always called to alert your staff. Not that this mattered, since early, on-time or late you and your staff are not able to adhere. Free visits, NOTHING at your clinic is free. I paid monthly in advance for the weekly visits to have blood glucose run on my diabetic pet to make sure insulin dosage was correct. If you are going to air your version, at least get the information correct. Also, the pet that I lost in 2001 was not the one I referred to as you having killed. The one I made reference to was under your care for 2 full days from morning to evening being kept in an incubator to receive oxygen and could have been saved if you and your staff had properly diagnosed the issue. Alas, by the time I realized that your course of treatment was not working and took her to a REAL animal hospital she could not be saved. read more

The staff was rude and incompetent, held me hostage for over 15 minutes while they tired to learn how to use thier computers to give me a price. Sent me a text that my animal went in to surgery 15 min after it came out, never sent a text saying it came out of surgery. Was covered in other pets hair and bits of IDK what was filthy when I got him back scary when you think he has an incision that could get infected. read more

Today, my beloved pet, "Lilly Girl" passed away from this earth on her way to her heavenly home. We were blessed to have her for 13 wonderful years. I am here to speak of Dr. Steven Sullivan and the staff at Red Bluff Animal Hospital. After coming back to Yelp, on my own by the way, to post additional praise, I came across some very negative reviews and awful comments. AND NO, I WAS NOT ASKED TO DO THIS BY THE CLINIC! There is no way Dr. Sullivan would mistreat an animal and his staff is always, and has always been, very professional and respectful. I have friends and family who swear by Red Bluff Animal Hospital and Dr. Sullivan. I have been a patron of Red Bluff Animal Hospital since the early 1980's and when Dr. Schmidt retired we transferred to Dr. Sullivan since the beginning. I now have a Pug and he loves Dr. Sullivan. He has always been kind and shows concern concern when my little guy is sick. There are times when my dogs have needed repeated help for seasonal allergies. I am only charged for the initial visit for a given year for the allergies. The follow-ups do not, and have never, included an office visit charge. I am only charged for changes in medicine or any other services I ask for. Haters Be Gone! AND NO I AM NOT BEING PAID TO WRITE THIS. read more

In Steve Sullivan's defense, if he were a Yelp subscriber (pays them money) the bad reviews disappear quickly; no ticky no laundry. I've been bringing my 14 year old Rat Terrier here for the past maybe 3 years, because I want her to have the best of the best looking after her during her older years and her continuous vet visits. she hadn't had to visit the vet much at all her entire life before she turned 11. She's always been very strong, resilient, and healthy. Dr. Sullivan and the vet techs are so kind, gentle, professional, polite, generous, the list goes on. I drive about 20 min to get here even though there's another vet clinic so much closer to my house, but their service just doesn't match Red Bluff. I'm very protective of my dog, Twinkle, since I've had her since I was in 4th grade (I'm now 23) and she's pretty special (anxiety, screams over nail clippings). If she's uncomfortable, I'm uncomfortable. Red Bluff seriously puts me at ease, because it's evident they're doing their best and they all have a heart of gold. Recently, Twinkle had underwent a serious surgery with Dr. Sullivan and let me tell you.. that was a whirlwind of emotions. She initially went in to get a hernia removed. her energy levels and health had taken a hit, so we decided surgery was best for her even at 13 almost 14 years old. During the surgery, I got a call from the clinic saying Dr. Sullivan found several tumors, a serious infection from her ovaries being mysteriously intertwined, pus had been building up (I may be missing something or mixing this info up, but it was insane the amount of complications he found). The bill went from around $300 to around $1300. They helped me open a care credit acount to pay for the surgery and Dr. Sullivan did not even charge me for the removal of her tumors. I was also informed that if I had waited another week, she could have passed away. Thank God I trusted my gut and agreed to the surgery even when everyone around me told me not to do it. "she's old, why bother, it's too much money". She's family and we're so blessed Dr. Sullivan and Red Bluff Animal Hospital took care of us. No words could ever describe how grateful I am. I wouldn't even know how to repay them besides leaving this review. The surgery payment doesn't even feel like enough. They saved my Twinkle. A year has almost passed since the surgery, and she's still living life like an 8 year old again. Before the surgery, she couldn't stand on her back legs, complete a walk around the entire park near us, relax, lay on her stomach(where the hernia was), lift her head too high, etc. Twinkle turns 15 this summer, and I'm sure she's very thankful to be so healthy and mobile at this age. These folks have always given top-notch care for my cat. Staff is courteous and professional. The doctors take time to explain conditions and treatments in non-technical terms. They've always been willing to do phone consultation and advice (which is rare). Their services and medications are reasonably priced. As a matter of fact, they're better than most of the online medication sites because they'll give an extra dose or two for added value. Wouldn't take my best-buddy anywhere else! read more

I've had a variety of animals (dogs and cats) over the years. Dr. Sullivan and his staff are the best clinic I've visited. Attentive, understanding, and willing to work with me on payment for the more expensive issues (dog with tumor on check was removed; dog also had skin allergy requiring medicated shampoo, etc.). We were introduced to Dr. Sullivan and his staff by a family member when our chihuahua very suddenly became very ill. The vet's office we have used for over 20 years (Nasa Pet Hospital) was unable to treat our pet after their very expensive diagnosis. Dr. Sullivan took him in and kept him during business hours and brought him back to health. The cost was very reasonable. Everyone was so kind, helpful and welcoming. My feisty chihuahua even gave kisses to the staff as he left for home with me. That is amazing! He was as happy as we were with the care he received. We've found our new veterinary home. read more

I went to another vet in the Clear Lake area prior to going to Red Bluff Animal Hospital and was completely unimpressed. My husband and his family had been going to RBAH for years and he suggested I take my pup to them. I was immediately blown away by the attention that Dr. Sullivan gave to my pup and me. My pup was a rescue (abuse at the hands of her previous male owner) and was particularly skiddish around men but she seemed to immediately take to Dr. Sullivan and he to her. He's the expert, as far as I'm concerned, on suspect masses on pups and even took extra steps to care for my pup when she had 2-3 tumors on her front leg on 2 separate occasions. We tried seeing another vet at the clinic when Dr. Sullivan was unavailable and didn't have as pleasant of an experience to the point of considering going elsewhere but I was so impressed with Dr. Sullivan specifically that I simply asked the office staff to schedule us only with Dr. Sullivan, which they did. Dr. Sullivan never skirted the truth but it was obvious how drawn to helping animals he is and he recognized how important pets are to his clients. As such, he took care when choosing his words when the situation may not have been a pleasant one. I have always been beyond happy with the care I received at Red Bluff Animal Hospital and have referred friends and family to them, and they have also been happy. The office staff was always helpful and made sure any questions I had were answered. They even made attempts to squeeze us in when the need was urgent even though the schedule may have been jam packed. Everybody's experiences will be different but I do have to say that my experiences with RBAH have always been wonderful and if they were less than wonderful, Dr. Sullivan and his staff wanted to know about it so that they could make corrections and would also do what they would to make me/us happy. I'm high maintenance when it comes to customer service but Dr. Sullivan and his staff always took care of our pets and me. Highly recommended to anybody in search of good care for their pets. read more
