Visiting VC and we were told Red Dog had good pizza so we stopped in. You order at the window inside and they deliver the pizza to your table. Several choices for pizza. Also had sandwiches and apps. Always love this saloon! Today we were there to usher in the Christmas season in properly with the Lacy J Dalton concert. Everyone is always friendly and fun. The bartenders are very nice, helpful, and create wonderful experiences. To eat I had the Asian egg rolls and the coconut shrimp basket. The coconut shrimp was breaded beautifully and were flavorful. The sauce that it was served with complimented the shrimp beautifully. I love eating my fries with tartar sauce (especially when I have fish) but I was super sad that the tartar sauce tonight was pure mayonnaise so sadly my crispy curly fries went untouched. The egg rolls were uneatable. They were burned and flavorless. There is not much more to report on them. I will continue to support the Red Dog and love them dearly but I hope they get their egg rolls figured out and small kinks like the tartar sauce figured out before they become bigger issues. read more

Just how I like it! 4.5/5. - Wings: We ordered 6 wings with a side of carrot sticks. We picked the hot sauce and the sweet heat. The wings were crispy and perfectly cooked. I really liked the sweet heat. The hot sauce was like a buffalo sauce which I'm not a fan of. 4.5/5 - Chicken Tenders: 4 large pieces of chicken over spiral fries. Not the best fries but the tenders were pretty good. 4/5. SERVICE: The staff was friendly and the food came out a reasonable time. The atmosphere has a chill and pleasant vibe, perfect for lunch hours while visiting Virginia City. The food, though, was mediocre. The garlic fries were not my favorite - very oily and salty. The fries are also very thin, which could easily make it crunchy but the oiliness makes it a bit soggy. The onion rings were also just okay; they definitely can work on a larger portion size. The pizza was decent - the portion size fits the price and is also loaded with toppings, though there really isn't anything too spectacular about the taste. Service was fast. To say this was a tasty beer is an understatement! It was so good! It was served chilled in a beer mug and is one of the best beers I've every tasted! Food: To order food, you have to get in line at the kitchen area where all of the food is made. We ordered a large all meat pizza. A server will bring food to your table - we were in awe of how large this pizza is! For the four of us, it was a lot! The pizza was amazing and delicious! One of the best pizzas I've ever had! Okay, I know this is a high rating for a small bar in VC but everything else single time we've come here we have such a positive experience! The staff are always so nice, they pour heavy and the food is friggin AMAZING! And the best part- they have GLUTEN FREE PIZZA. Their portions are big too! My husband and I got a gf pizza, wings (GET THEM. THEY'RE AMAZING) and a small side salad which filled a huge plastic bowl. The decor in there is super cute and they have a bunch of merch options as well. I sat one time for nearly 8 minutes after being told others had placed their orders before me which was not the case so I decided to take my business else where.. My wife and I shared garlic fries and a small BBQ chicken pizza + drinks. This was enough for the us and came out to just under $30 which seemed reasonable. The service was excellent. After solving our escape room, we wanted to get some food and drinks to wind down the night. Thankfully Red Dog Saloon stays open late Saturdays, they actually had a band going, and people dancing on the dance floor. It was pretty straightforward in ordering food, and thankfully they had an additional tent which was headed as they were full to the brim. I ordered a one slice pepperoni/sausage which was nice and hot given the recent drop in temperatures. They give you a buzzard which I understood afterwards they will bring the food to you. The bar area was great in that they had a drink menu up as well. One person in my group was able to order two drinks at once to not have to come all the way back inside from the other Tent area. I think this is a great grub late night spot in Virginia city, which seemed to be where the "party was at" this Saturday night! read more

Not much going on at 1030am on a weekday but I enjoyed spending time here checking out the façade and the interior of this classic drinking establishment. Originally the Comstock House, it was built by Henry Comstock himself. If you've been paying attention as you travel the Reno/Carson City/Virginia City area and read any of those historical markers, you'll recognize the name. Henry Comstock (1820-1870) was the Canadian miner after whom the Comstock Lode was named. It was the richest silver mine in American history, though he sold his interest in it somewhat early in its exploitation. The Comstock House has obviously changed hands often and now is the Red Dog Saloon. It is all about great live music. Though no live music this early in the day though. Just recordings and they sounded fabulous. And an interesting interior that clearly owes much to the history of Virginia City. This saloon is always busy. I can't remember a trip to VC where the Red Dog wasn't full. They offer live music year round. Check their website for dates and bands playing. There's a stage inside on the left just past the bar. But I'm really liking the outdoor stage in the backyard. And in 2021 the two new "tents". These large white tents have expanded the tight seating inside. They are heated during the winter - I can attest. Since we enjoyed our late afternoon cocktails in one before watching the Christmas parade in December. In the summer, the ends of the tents roll up for air circulation and to enjoy the bands on the large outdoor stage. Make sure you say hi to Rosie, the resident Rottie. They have no parking lot, and limited street parking. But VC, you can walk every where. read more

My mom was in town visiting so I had to bring her by Virginia City and of course she loved it! It was during the weekend of Hot August Nights, so everything was busier than usual. We came on a Sunday afternoon to stroll around the city and then wanted to find a place for lunch around 1pm. Most of the restaurants had a 30min + wait but we were able to order quickly and find a seat at Red Dog. They have a wide variety of items on their menu including sandwiches, salads, wings, pizza, and even some other entrees. We split a small antipasto salad and each got a slice of pizza! The small salad was plenty for 2 people to share. It was delicious with tons of toppings! We also loved that they have a dressing bar where you can choose what dressing you want and how much to get. The salad came out quickly and the pizza slices took 15-20 mins. However, they were worth the wait! Another generous serving size, tons of cheese, delicious toppings. It was exactly what we were looking for in a quick lunch. The saloon itself is a fun atmosphere and everyone is so friendly. All the staff were very welcoming and attentive. I've heard good things about this pizza but hadnt had the chance to come up. We took advantage of going to the monster truck show & brought home some pizza for dinner. I have to say it was worth it, I might even just go back for the pizza without having another reason to visit Virginia city. We got a healthy choice, the "Tommy knocker" which came piled high with veggies. And also "The Miner" which is loaded with meats for you carnivores.
