Stopped in for pizza during my vacation in Lake Tahoe. Place was very busy but we got seated pretty quickly. Hostess was very pleasant and our waitress was great. This was one of the more astonishing displays of hostility I've experienced from a local business, particularly toward a group of locals who were simply trying to support one. A friend called Whitecaps ahead of time to plan an impromptu, casual surprise gathering for her husband. She explained that roughly 24 people might stop by the bar over the course of the evening, more of an open house than a group arriving together expecting to be seated and served. She was told it was first come, first served and to simply get there early. Another friend and I arrived first and stood off to the side waiting for bar seats. The bartender rather rudely told us we could wait, but made a point of saying it would be a very long time before anything opened up. We said no problem, we were perfectly happy to wait, and mentioned that more friends would eventually be joining us. Ironically, two people got up almost immediately, so we took their seats. The moment the bartender heard the eventual size of our group, her demeanor changed completely. She told us, in no uncertain terms, that they absolutely would not accommodate that many people. I explained that our friend had specifically called ahead, explained what she was planning and had been told it would be fine. Rather than attempting to sort out what was clearly a miscommunication on their end, she became even more unpleasant. For the sake of fairness, a second bartender came on shift shortly afterward and could not have been nicer. She was warm, gracious and professional. Thinking there had simply been a misunderstanding, I went downstairs to speak with a manager. Instead of any attempt to clarify what had happened, the man I spoke with was immediately angry, confrontational and remarkably unprofessional. When I asked whether another manager might have spoken with our friend, he snapped, "I'm the owner." He was visibly shaking with anger and made it abundantly clear that our group was not welcome. And apparently he meant it. As friends began arriving, they were actually stopped at the entrance and told they weren't even allowed upstairs to the bar. To be clear, this was approximately 25 locals expecting no reserved area, no special treatment and no coordinated service. We were perfectly happy to wait for space and order food and drinks as we could. Had someone simply explained there had been a misunderstanding and they couldn't handle a group that size, we would have understood completely. Instead, between the first bartender's rudeness and the owner's hostility, we were treated with outright disdain, as though our business was beneath them. The arrogance and complete lack of professionalism were staggering. Our host called Spindleshanks down the road, who was happy to welcome our group on essentially no notice. We all left, had a great evening and spent several thousand dollars there that night, revenue Whitecaps quite literally chased out the door. It's an interesting way to run a business in a seasonal community where local support matters enormously once the summer crowds disappear. October and November always come, and locals remember which businesses value their patronage. Now that Rosewood Pizza is open, with equally good pizza and, in my opinion, a far better atmosphere, I know exactly where I'll be taking my business. Whitecaps didn't lose my business because they couldn't accommodate 25 people. They lost it because of how they treated 25 people after their own staff had already told us to come. read more

Whitecaps Pizza -- North Lake Tahoe Whitecaps Pizza is one of those spots where the location alone gives it a little extra something. Sitting on the patio with a view of the lake automatically puts a place a notch above, in my opinion. We had a group of 10 of us, and considering Whitecaps is one of the busiest spots on the North Shore, we decided to try our luck. They don't really have a set system for ordering ahead or takeout--it seems to depend pretty heavily on how busy they are. Luckily, they were able to get our whole group right in! Our server was quick, efficient and friendly, especially considering how busy they were. Drinks and food came out without us feeling like we were waiting forever. For a drink, I had the prickly pear cider, which was crisp, sweet and delicious. My wife and I started with the Caesar salad, which was fresh and really good. It was definitely heavy on the garlic, but I happen to LOVE garlic, so that worked for me. We also ordered the garlic cheese bread for the table. I had high hopes because it comes on focaccia, and I thought that would give it a little something different and maybe take it over the top. Unfortunately, this one just didn't do it for me. It was a little dry and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. For our entrée, my wife and I shared the pesto chicken sandwich. It was good and definitely did the trick, but I wouldn't say it was the best pesto chicken sandwich I've ever had. Now...the pizza. Several people in our group ordered different pizzas, and every bite I stole was SO good. Someone ordered the shrimp scampi pizza, which was a little different than what I would normally order, but WOW--it was really, really good. Overall, even with the restaurant being extremely busy, the service was efficient and our food and drinks didn't take forever. And let's be honest, sitting on a patio with a view of Lake Tahoe while eating pizza is hard to beat. So if you're on the North Shore, give this little spot a whirl. Just be prepared for it to be busy--and if they have room for you, take advantage of it! read more

Had lunch here when visitng Lake Tahoe. They have a great outdoor patio on the beach with a lovely view. We ordered the Caesar Salad and Hot Honey Pie. The Caesar was very good and fresh with perfect amount of dressing and plenty of parmesan. The Hot Honey Pie consisted of vodka sauce drizzle, ezzo pepperoni, bacon, ricotta, fresh basil, and a hot honey drizzle. Delicious. Whitecaps Pizza is a great pizza option in North Lake Tahoe. Located in Kings Beach just a short drive from Incline Village, it offers beautiful lake views, a relaxed atmosphere, and some seriously tasty pizza. The pizza is absolutely the reason I keep coming back. My longtime favorite is the Soppressata pizza with hot honey drizzle. The combination of spicy, savory, and sweet is outstanding, and it might be one of the few pizzas that's just as good the next day as leftovers. On my most recent visit, we tried the Vodka Pie on the Detroit-style crust. While I enjoyed the flavors, I discovered that the Detroit-style crust probably isn't for me. Going forward, I'll stick with their more traditional crust options, which I've consistently enjoyed over the years. The beet salad is another standout. It's beautifully presented, and the fresh dill on top adds a unique touch that works surprisingly well. My only suggestion would be to increase the portion of beets a bit, as the amount felt somewhat limited compared to the rest of the dish. The beer selection is extensive, with plenty of options for almost any taste. Wine drinkers will find a handful of choices available by the glass or half bottle, which is appreciated, although none of the wines I've tried have been particularly memorable. The biggest challenge for Whitecaps continues to be the service. While I've had a few positive experiences, I've also had multiple visits where service felt inattentive and unfriendly. It often seems difficult to get someone's attention when you need something, and there have been occasions where details were overlooked, including being served wine in a visibly dirty glass. While it was replaced when brought to their attention, the lack of acknowledgment or apology left something to be desired. That said, I continue to return because the pizza is genuinely that good. Between the lake views, the casual atmosphere, the excellent beer selection, and tasty pizza. Whitecaps remains a great place to gather with friends, share an appetizer and a pizza, and enjoy a cold drink. If the service ever catches up to the quality of the food, this place could easily become a top pizza option in NLT. read more

We live in Tahoe and the vegan options are slim up here. We started with the spinach salad without feta- delicious. Next was the craft mushroom pizza, no white sauce, no Mozz, no Gruyère, add red sauce and vegan cheese. It was amazing. So different than the usual vegan pizza. Considering we had a toddler with us we didn't feel comfortable at the bar. Between the two of us we had to ask 5x to get on a waitlist for a table. Extremely Disappointing Experience and We Won't Be Back We stopped in after playing a round of golf in Tahoe, dressed appropriately in our golf clothes, expecting to relax, have a drink and enjoy ourselves. The waitress told us there were tables upstairs and downstairs, so we went upstairs to look. After coming back down, we explained that there really wasn't a suitable place for us upstairs and asked if there was any possibility of getting a table outside. As we were coming downstairs, we happened to run into one of the waiters and politely asked if he could help us find a table outside. His response was incredibly abrupt and rude: "Ask your waitress." The tone was dismissive and condescending, as though we were inconveniencing him simply by asking a question. We never treated anyone disrespectfully and were nothing but polite. Maybe they've had a long season or were having a bad day, but that is no excuse for taking it out on customers. The entire vibe from the moment we walked in was unwelcoming, and unfortunately, the way we were treated completely changed our impression of the establishment. We chose not to spend our money there and will not be returning. Customer service matters. A simple, respectful response would have made all the difference. read more
