Whitecaps is a must if you are staying in the area! Quite possibly the best pizza in all of Tahoe. We've tried many places over the years and Whitecaps is ultimately the spot we always go to. It's super busy, so definitely recommend coming early or planning your visit on a weekday. On a Saturday night, it took about 30 minutes for a table, so we sat at the bar instead. The service was good, though the food did take a while to come out. The Sopressata pizza with honey drizzle was amazing and probably the highlight of our most recent dinner. They have a ton of options on the menu though, if you're not feeling pizza. I've heard amazing things about the meatball sandwich, which we plan to get on our next visit. read more

Dog unfriendly, poor customer service and average food. We drove an hour to eat there with our dog and were told by a middle aged man that we had to sit outside, fine. It was the hottest time of the day and the whole patio had no cover at all so we asked if they could provide covering. The man was like "no, we can't do anything, sit under the sun with your dog or leave" and left. We opt to place a takeout order and eat somewhere else instead. But when we asked for utensils and other supplies, the cashier lady that placed our order was visibly annoyed and unwilling. We ordered Detroit style pizza, it was 80 percent crust. I ordered take out so no review of service (? Stars) and interior. I ordered the 12" veggie meat combo. They told me it would be ready in a half hour and it was. The crust was crispy and there were a load of veggies and meat. The price was average ($25). Overall the pizza was good (4 stars) and I could have it again. The only issue was that the handicap parking space was the furthest parking space (2 Stars) from the main entrance. I was told it was because in the summer the rear entrance is mainly used. So I've been going to this place for many years. I forgot last year they went and changed the format. You can no longer get half-and-half. To me that is absolutely stupid of the management. Maybe for their specialized pizzas but for normal everyday pizza that's the dumbest thing in the world if one child eats Canadian bacon and the other one eat pepperoni perfect instead you're making me buy two pizzas good marketing ploy but completely stupid. After snow shoeing, it was time for a late lunch. Having never explored this part of Lake Tahoe, I was excited to try a new place to eat. Having it be lakeside, was an added bonus! Whitecaps is a short walk from Kings Beach recreation area. There's also a small lot and some street parking. The indoor space is a bit small but they also have a spacious back patio. We chose indoor seating and lucked out with lake views. The focus on the menu is pizza but they also feature, salads, sandwiches and pastas. I ordered the 12 inch vegan which had a shaved brussel sprouts, peppers, arugula, mushrooms, artichoke and onions. The crust was perfectly crisp and I ended up with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance is causal and chill. Really enjoyed a late lunch early dinner here. It was getting crowded later in the day (we were done eating by 4 and walked by later, to see a line forming outside.) Food was good! Everything tasted fresh. No complaints about the food itself. Knocking off one star for the service though. We were in Tahoe for a family trip so we had a large group. Apparently they don't host large groups so they said we would have to be split up into 2 tables. Ok, that's totally fine! We only asked to be seated outside (since we had a dog), near each other if possible, and to have it under one bill. Doesn't seem like difficult requests, but the hosts were giving us annoyed looks, and kept repeating that they would have to speak to the servers first about it. The tone they were giving off seemed like they were doing us a favor, so we didn't really appreciate that. Reservations definitely recommended if you can get one. This place is a local's favorite and gets very busy. The service staff was very nice and polite, hostesses were extremely accommodating. Servers were a little bit overwhelmed, so unfortunately, we had to wait a while for a drink refills, which is why this isn't a perfect score. Also our pizza arrived hot, but it was a little overdone. You can see in the photos. The flavors were delicious, crust was more like a cracker, but I can only attribute that to potentially how busy they were. The kitchen might've been as overwhelmed as the staff. The location is awesome with the Lake view, but this place is small and can be jampacked with people. The walkways are extremely narrow so it makes it hard for servers to get around while patrons are finding their way to their seats or their friends. Tahoe has a food culture that is more casual and my partner and I didn't find too many memorable dining experiences, but we decided to take a trip out to King's Beach and fell in love with Whitecaps Pizza so much that we visited them two days in a row! Awesome they have the Russian River brews on tap! The Detroit style double pepperoni was delicious, with perfectly crispy edges. Loved the shrimp scampi thin crust pizza which was punchy with garlic, had excellent shrimp umami goodness, and great cherry tomatoes, and crispy crust. The crust is so flavorful and is such a marvel at this altitude. And finally the staff was friendly and helpful. This was by far the highlight of our trip for meals. Ordered 3 pizzas for take out over the phone. Definitely check out the menu online, so you know what to order. Some items are seasonal, like Bacon Peach Arugula pizza is only available in the summer. Supreme Pizza is called Veggie Meat Combo. Also note: they do NOT take orders in advance. They said it would take about 30 minutes, but it was slightly longer than that. DH said the restaurant was busy, even though it was early for a Saturday dinner. He thought it was possible to request seating with a lake view. The pizzas are NY style, super thin crunchy crust. Flavor of the crust was really good. We got three 16" pizzas and ended up eating about 2 of them between 4 adults and 3 little kids. We also had 3 packaged salads we made at our rental house. Veggie Meat Combo ($32 for 16") was the most popular in our group. It was loaded with the classic toppings. Italian sausage bits were nice and tender. Flavor was classic. Just as you'd imagine a supreme pizza would be. Craft Mushroom ($34 for 16") was a close second. I thought it was too sweet from the caramelized onions, but the other people in our group loved it. Next time, maybe we'll try it with bacon. Hawaiian Pizza ($30.50 for 16") was the kids' favorite. Toppings were generous and high quality. Flavors meshed well together. DH liked the pizzas. "High density of toppings, so it was very flavorful. Would have liked the mushroom one without the extra cheeses." I would like to preface this by saying much of my experience concerns could have been alleviated had I been actually provided service. It was a full house when I brought my younger sister and her boyfriend in; they told us 30-35 minutes for a wait; I say that's fine and have them jot down my contact information. They then tell us if we were okay with sitting outside immediately; caveat being that it was around 60 degrees outside, and as we were just hungry and didn't care much for the cold we said that was fine. We were being brought to our table when the hostess/other staff walked us through the restaurant the host had asked the server being assigned to us (right in-front of us) if he's able to take us as a table. He spoke to her in a different language in which she then tells us he's got quite a few tables which I understand as I've been in the foodservice industry for 8 years myself. We were then sat. The restaurant was nice and cozy and the seating out back was also very nice; with the amount of people and buzz, it seems to be beloved by visitors. With being sat our server came out and apologized for the delay; ten minutes had passed before he reached us which is perfectly acceptable when busy. He did not give us his name and he simply said "Ready to order? What can I do for you?" To be efficient and time-saving I gave him our full order; no modifications or complications of any kind with it. We then wait around 20 minutes for our food to appear and upon first impressions everything looks tasty! The picture provided was everything the moment it was dropped off to us; nothing but excitement! He then asked us if we needed anything else and after we declined he went on his way to let us dig in. The soup we were hoping to be a good starter so we can warm ourselves up since we've been sitting outside in about 60 degree weather (again; we were fine with it because we knew our order would warm us up.) First bite I took I immediately proclaimed to my sister and her boyfriend that the soup was almost as cold as the outside air or at-least the warmth of my fingertips by this point. The Mac N' Cheese was my sister's boyfriend's most anticipated item because what's not to like about Macaroni and Cheese? Bland and stale. Nothing much else to say; but he ate the entire dish regardless. The pizzas were genuinely the best part of the meal however, at-least the thing that they are known for and advertise is good... The Craft Mushroom was a clear star amongst it all; umami from the basil and mushrooms with the rich cheese was fantastic. Shrimp Scampi was good but the lemon slices had overpowered everything that was on the pie. Now, as we were disappointed with the soup we were waiting for our server to inform him of our dissatisfaction. Now normally, it's almost customary during service to at-least check up on your tables when they've had their first or a couple bites in. We were not spoken to for almost 25 minutes by any staff since our food being dropped off; we were trying to be apparent by staring inwards looking for our server or the other girl server picking up pepper flakes and parmesan cheese from the tables next to us; not even a single glance. He then comes us and by that point we were just disappointed and lost our appetite for the last 4 slices of pizza we had left. By the very least we were given a void on the soup but I HAVE to reiterate; this entire downward spiral of an experience could have been avoided if he had simply returned. I also noticed that a couple of other tables he was serving by that time had already paid out and left; so if by chance he was taking a 10 minute break or simply actually busy with other tables; that check-up I mentioned earlier which we didn't receive would have went a long way. The server with the curly hair, long enough to be put in a ponytail and a vigorous beard; please take this to heart and I hope we do better. This was our last dinner of our vacation and we had gone to taco bell to at-least have warm food. read more
