The food was very fresh tasting, but I did wish it had a bit more flavor. The Kung pow chicken was not spicy at all, and I did have to use quite a bit of soy sauce. The service has friendly when I picked up my to-go order. It wasn't bad and I would mind eating here again. My last time at this restaurant was for a friend's wedding. Now I drive past this restaurant almost daily to work. We had a lazy day and didn't want to cook dinner, so I stopped by the restaurant. They have 2 different menus, 1 is the authentic Chinese food with all the seafood and the other one that has the usual dishes. Daily lunch buffets for a set price and time. Dining area is big, they used to have a party room in the back but it doesn't seem like they offer parties. Also catering menu available for food. Nice bar area too. read more

Paid $50.00 for egg rolls that tasted awful, sweet & sour chicken (mystery chicken) that had no taste and were soggy, Shrimp w/lobster sauce that had shrimp that were mushy and tasted funny, and house fried rice that had very little other than rice! We ended up throwing it all in the trash and will never go back. We had previously tried and thought we would give it another chance as we heard some of the same family were from Tam's Rice Bowl. Spring rolls and the Lo Mein are amazing. Smaller space inside but still leaves a big impression. Moved to the TC about 5 years ago and this is one of the only places I get Chinese from with affordable prices, delicious food and nice sized portions. We went to Red Ginger for lunch today. Originally we were going to order off the menu but when we got there we saw they had a buffet. We'll I wish we'd tried their menu items. Everything we tried off the buffet was Luke warm. When they did bring out more chicken wings they were hot but not done inside. I tried to tell the person collecting plates but she maybe didn't speak English, not sure, but just walked away. So we probably won't be back. read more

What a surprise. Nestled in an Industrial Park. Our dishes were just what we were hoping for. My Singapore noodles had just enough heat and curry flavor. It had lots of thinly sliced vegetables and plenty of protein. My husband was looking for a brown sauce chow mein and was pleased with what he got. He said it was delicious. Just to write crispy celery and plenty of food. They're egg. Rolls are delicious as well. I wish I remembered to take pictures but it looked and smelled so good. We dug right in. The food is what you normally expect from a Chinese restaurant with the usual favorites such as general tso chicken, curry, sweet and sour, plus some pad Thai and others. It's is good and the portions are very large and at a very good price. They also have a pretty good lunch buffet during the week that is very good and only 11 dollars. The service is friendly and very prompt. I wish they had fountain drinks as I've never been a fan of a can of soda at a restaurant. Just a bit tacky in my opinion. I had high hopes that Red Ginger would be my go-to spot for Americanized Chinese food in the northern suburbs (yes, I get that granular about my restaurants). Unfortunately the food just isn't great. The fried veggie spring roll ($5.25) doesn't travel well and had an off-putting filling that had a cream-cheese flavor (but wasn't cream cheese). The salt and pepper tofu ($12) doesn't travel well because it's friend, but even still, had a baffling blandness to it. The kung pao tofu ($11) is more like a Szechuan tofu, as it lacks peanuts and any crunchy elements like water chestnuts or diced carrots. This dish was oily and the tofu had a spongy softness that held no appeal. The chow fun with black bean sauce ($13.50) is normally made with beef, but can be made with tofu for an extra ($1.50). I'm not sure why they charge to add tofu, but in any case, this dish felt overcooked and marginal at best. The only decent dish was the pea tips in garlic sauce ($15.50). But even here, it's swimming in oil and sauce and could have had a lighter touch. All told, Red Ginger is a disappointment. read more

Came here bc right near my hotel. Bathroom super filthy - floor and toliet in women's cannot have been cleaned in months plus. No paper towels at all in both restroom dispensers. A dirty restroom makes you question food hygiene. Food came out quickly. Cream cheese wontons hot and great. General tsos chicken some pieces hot some lukewarm. Staff is kind but should check on diners, offer drink refills etc instead of play on cell phone. read more

We went here for lunch because we heard they had a lunch menu. When we got there we saw there was a buffet. We decided to try the buffet. I wish we'd of just ordered off the menu. Everything I tried was not hot, barely warm. When they did bring out more chicken wings, they were hot but not cooked all the way. Yuck. I am in love with their Chicken Pad Thai! Honestly, I haven't tried any other entrees because I usually crave this one. It is the best Pad Thai around! Others in my party like the Pad Thai and orange chicken. Generous portions--enough to share or save for a second meal. I also enjoy their egg rolls and cream cheese wontons. Just don't order fried appetizers for delivery since the steam inside a closed container or bag makes them soft and soggy and they arrived cold. The one time I ordered delivery through a third-party delivery platform, the Pad Thai sauce had leaked all over the bag and containers inside. Surprised there are not many Yelp reviews and photos for this hidden gem. This is hands down one of the better Cantonese restaurants in the Twin Cities. I would rank this behind Hong Kong Noodles and Peking Garden. It caters to most and offers dishes that vary from more authentic Cantonese to Americanized lunch-style Chinese cuisine. I have tried the Red Ginger via takeout when I am visiting the Family, but this was the first time that I had a chance to experience a sit-down dining experience. Agreed that the location is not the most convenient for those in the city or southern metro. Though this is a trip that may be worth venturing. The methodology I use to assess the quality of Cantonese dishes is ordering several key dishes that I have defined baselines and 'sniffed tested' from years of trying a gazillion restaurants across the world (Houston, Hong Kong, NYC, Toronto, ...). Ordered - Baked Salt and Pepper Squid (4/5). Great dish and definitely simpler and tastier than others. The batter is just about right and goes wonderfully with soy sauce mixed with hot chili oil. The one thing I noticed was it wasn't as crispy and the garnishes were a little bland and were just there for presentation instead of adding to the dish - Pea Tip Veggies (4/5). I love all Chinese vegetables fried in garlic sauce over a wok. So simple and helps balance the other dishes - Seafood Hot Pot (3.75/5). Good nostalgic memories of my undergraduate days of ordering the 'East River Road' special at Sheung Cheng - Salt and Pepper Tofu (3.5/5). This was salted and diced just about right and goes well with rice - Salted Fish, Chicken, and Eggplant Hot Pot (5/5). Yum. This is very southeast Asian-type of dish with the fermented shrimp paste aroma. It is a strong, pungent dish that is good in a few bites (make sure you're sharing this dish Family-style). A little salty so make sure to eat it with rice or noodles - Honey Walnut Shrimp (2/5). Mediocre. The almonds tasted old and the sauce did not fully cover the shrimp or provided the right texture. It felt very 'buffet-ly' and cheap. This is me comparing it to my experience in NYC - Lobster (4/5). Ordered both the ginger & onion and black bean sauce versions. Typical Chinese seafood dishes Red Ginger is delicious and pretty affordable. I am excited to return and try other dishes! read more

Pretty decent Chinese food for the north metro area. Some dishes are hit or miss but so far it's been hits. I like the lomein. I've been looking for a favorite since village wok closed and this place came close to (not the same but close enough). The szechuan chicken is more sweet then spicy. The chong xing chili chicken tasted amazing but a bit too oily. Orange beef was a NO. The breading was too thick and soggy and the beef was a bit weird. The hot and sour soup is my all time favorite! It has a nice kick and the perfect sour. Most places don't make this soup well but it's definitely a hit here. This is the only option near where I reside so I will be frequenting this place. If I did not live near here, I probably only return for the hot and sour soup. read more

They did everything right with my order and it was a quick in and out. I had veggie spring rolls and house lo mien. Both were excellent. Portions are large. Alright, so I'm from California and there are a lot more options and variety for Chinese food. So I'm going to cut this Place some slack. The black pepper beef pan fried noodles was good, the flavor was definitely there. Very greasy and oily. The noodles were too soggy and not crispy texture. The lobster noodles was good, I feel it's cheaper than im Cali. The lobster seemed pretty fresh and noodles were good as well, but for some reason it just seemed it was also drenched in oil. The stir fried veggies good flavor not over cooked but still very very oily. All in all it wasn't a bad experience, cause my uncle and aunt are regulars here. So I wouldn't mind coming back here to try more stuff. Maybe when I go to Minnesota again. read more

Different owners/management since the last time I stopped here-all for the better! We were a large group of 14, but were given the huge table in the back that fit us all very comfortably.
