The latest visit was earlier today with friends after a 3-hour hike and we only had the dim sum items because we were told that the main menu wasn't available because the chef was busy with cooking for a large event. Do not go here!!! I'm really sad to write this review because I was excited to have authentic dim sum in a bigger city, but unfortunately this was a one-star experience. 1. Rotten shrimp har gow My husband and I both took a bite and immediately knew the shrimp had gone bad. It was disgusting. I'm honestly grateful I didn't give it to my child first. We visited in the morning, not at the end of the day, which makes this even more concerning. Despite bringing it to their attention, there was poor communication and they still attempted to charge us. 2. Slow and unprepared service We arrived early because our kids were hungry, but nothing seemed ready. Servers were still arriving, and after waiting about 20 minutes, the food that finally came out was cold. 3. Misleading wait time We ordered an octopus dish and were told it would take almost an hour to prepare. While that was disappointing, we were willing to wait. However, when we asked about it around 10:30, we were told the cook wouldn't even be arriving until 11:00! The restaurant starts dim sum service at 9:30. Had they been upfront from the beginning, we would not have stayed--especially after being served spoiled food. 4. Very expensive for what you get The prices were surprisingly high. My friend and I met up for belated birthday dinner. It was tricky to find, the restaurant is tucked behind the hotel and business building. Arrived at 10am on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy. That made finding parking (in the lot) and getting a table for 7 pretty easy. At each table was a tablet that contained their digital menu. I'll be honest I didn't really look through because 1)it was a lot and 2)ordering was delegated to two in our group, Dim Sum pros. While they picked, the rest of us sipped on the complimentary tea. We ordered so much food which all came out pretty quickly. However we soon found ourselves running out of space on the lazy susan, and had to do lots of consolidating. It was a carb heavy meal with sesame balls, various dumplings, various buns, various crepes, meatballs, tripe, short ribs, scallion pancakes and much more. The scallion pancakes did not look or taste how I expected them to, and that's when I learned what I've had in the past is Korean style. The price was pretty good, $266 split 7 ways. There was so much food, that we all ended up with leftovers. The staff who had been helpful and accomodating the entire, was kind enough to bring us all to-go containers. This place is incredibly good. They have a huge menu of authentic Chinese and Chinese American dishes. It can be a bit overwhelming to look at the menu. They also have a lot of lunch and dinner specials if you can't decide. We tried four dishes. With 4 people this was easily enough for 6 to 8. The spicy crispy fish was delicious. Also had the eggplant with pork and garlic, bone in chicken with vegetables, and lo mein noodles. Everything perfectly prepared. Service is friendly and helpful. Their dim-sum menu didn't disappoint. It was our first time here, and the quality is comparable to dim-sum we had in different chinatowns across the East Coast. Prices were reasonable and the desserts weren't overly sweet, which I really liked. Service was also really fast and servers periodically checked on us to make sure we had all the items we ordered. Dare I say my favorite restaurant for Hong Kong cuisine in the Twin Cities! Tried their dim sum menu and the classics har gao and siu mai didn't disappoint. Love their congee (porridge) consistency. Tried their beef chow fun and bbq pork + roast duck rice plate for lunch. You can taste the wok hei in the chow fun, reminds me of home. They use pork belly for bbq pork instead of pork shoulder, but the marinade is still very tasty! Service is 10/10 for both visits! The servers are kind, attentive, and helpful. MSP is notoriously lacking in good dim sum so I was hesitant when trying HK Noodle's new location. The atmosphere and service are great and exactly what you'd expect. The space is really strangely laid out with a "vestibule" section for hanging out and a main dining room with banquette-style tables. The staff was incredibly friendly and ordering was really easy with the tablet. The food itself was about what I'd expected from the area. The wonton soup was the best part with a nice, light broth that was flavorful. The rice crepes had an unappealing, super thick wrapper and only 2 pieces of overcooked shrimp. Needed to be drowned in chili oil to add flavor. The char siu bao were surprisingly fluffy! I enjoyed that the filling wasn't the super sweet saucy kind you often see. I'd get them again. The curry cuddlefish was also decent, if not a little under steamed. Was you typical Japanese curry mix. Overall it was about on par with the other dim sum i've had in the area. The only downside is that there didn't seem to be any airflow in that specific area. Ordered a bunch of items but some standouts were the fish maw soup (heavier on the fish and less on the maw which I liked), fried sole filet with garlic and the stir fried green beans. Service was very nice and quick. We especially liked that they seemed very honest. We ordered two fish maw soups and they came over and let us know it would probably be too much for our group and they were right. Nice to see Hong Kong Noodles back as they were a go to of mine during my college days. We tried the Dim Sum and it was ok and it's hard as you always have to compare it to the best. The ambiance is ok at best and could use some work. The options were ok and no crab claws were a disappointment as that is one of my favorites. I also am a bit old fashioned and love the carts being pushed around and getting to pick what we want. If is from a menu it's just not dim sum to me. I will go back for their normal menu, but for dim sum I will stick to the best well known place. The location is hard to find and can be confusing. I also have never been a fan of forced gratuity. I like to think it's nice to reward great service and maybe standard 15 when it's ok. When it's taken out of my hands then it's not gratuity it's an added charge. read more

It's in an odd location and certainly not the easiest to find at night so definitely utilize Google Maps for direction. The entryway is strange...it's a medium sized empty room with a couple of kiosks for walk up ordering but there's no one to greet you as you walk in. I don't know if the intention is to have this room serve as a bar and they're waiting for liquor license to be approved? Otherwise it's spatially off putting to initially walk into an empty space that doesn't look or feel like a restaurant. The actual restaurant is through this "entryway" and turn right. Then the normal bright lights and tables appear. There's ample seating for both small and large groups. Ordering is done via tablets. There's still plenty of servers who are walking around filling drink glasses and able to answer questions. Food is served so fast! Portions are large and easy for sharing. Taste is alright. The dishes we ordered were surprisingly bland and not overly salty - which is good health-wise but they lacked depth, in my opinion. read more

We recently visited the new Hong Kong Noodle in Edina, which has moved from its original spot near the U of M campus. The restaurant is housed in what used to be a Denny's, and while the layout is a little unconventional, it works once you get oriented. When you first walk in, it looks mostly like a takeout and DoorDash hub, but there's a sign directing you toward the dine-in area--a bit unusual, but once inside, it's clean, modern, and comfortable. The large round tables with lazy Susans are a nice touch for family-style dining and dim sum. Ordering is done on iPads, but the (owner?) personally came over to explain how to use the system, which was very helpful and welcoming. Service overall was excellent--friendly, attentive, and even thoughtful enough to run outside after us when we accidentally left something behind. The food was quite good. The roast duck soup was the standout, with an incredible broth layered with star anise and rich umami depth. The seafood dinner special was generous, featuring plenty of white fish, shrimp, and squid (though the squid was a bit overcooked). The sweet and sour chicken had nice big pieces of tender chicken, and the crab rangoon were some of the best we've had--absolutely stuffed with creamy crab filling. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience with great service and flavorful dishes. We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu! read more

I really wanted to love this spot. The previous location on the U of M campus just holds so much nostalgia for me. Location was really confusing. It's tied to the Quality Inn, which makes me think it was formally a Denny's. We had to go through a different parking lot to get to it. I missed the turn like three times. This can partially be blamed on the construction though. We had to go for dimsum, so that's all I have for this review. The ordering was done through a tablet, which I didn't hate. The staff was very nice. They explained everything well, and refilled out water and tea very quickly. They spoke multiple languages, so anyone can feel at home. Honestly, they are what brings this score up to where it's at Apologies in advance for likely mislabeling a few of the dishes. The food was okay, most dishes were fairly standard. I didn't love the chicken feet, which is usually my favorite dish. The octopus did not look like it's picture at all. Pricing was fairly even, about $6-$8 a dish. Wow, I had high expectations for this place as the pics of the food look pretty good. What a let down. I ordered a HK Style BBQ Pork Lo Mein expecting a stir fried noodle dish. Instead I got some hard (read old) BBQ Pork just thrown atop some egg noodles. I don't know if that's how an authentic Lo Mein is supposed to be, but it was bland and just lazy AF. You order through a tablet, which was very easy to order. Most dishes had a picture. After you place an order through the tablet, you will get a receipt with everything that you selected. I loved Hong Kong Noodle. The wait to reopen felt like forever. So tonight, I was so excited to try my favorites again!! I hope they're still working out the kinks but here's a recap of my experience: Walking in.. no one to greet you. You get on the waitlist at a stand. Fine. We get on the waitlist and sit. The waiting area is odd, very sectioned off. You have no idea what's happening in the main part of the restaurant. But when we finally saw the dining room, it looks so much nicer and spacious than the old location. We were 5th on the waitlist but only had to wait 5 mins. We get sat and introduced to the iPad. We order our food on the iPad and the food started to come out pretty quickly. My typical order is the jumbo fried garlic shrimp and the beef pan fried noodles. Tonight my friend also wanted a wonton and chicken noodle soup and crab rangoons. The pan fried noodles were pretty close to what I remember, they added green pepper so it changed the taste a bit. The shrimp was just as good as always. But the soup was so bland - I joked about just adding hot water and it would replenish the broth. And the crab rangoons... came out when we were pretty much done eating. The main reason why I'm rating my experience as 2 stars... the service. We've now been sitting here for 40 mins since we've been done eating just trying to pay our bill. We asked 2 or 3 times, and they nod at us. Maybe this means our food is free?? I was excited to find that this is now open. Since shuttering their University location many months ago, I wondered if they would ever re-open. It used to be a mainstay spot for Chinese food in the cities leaning towards the authentic. This was my first visit to their new location and it is undergoing a Soft Opening. They have re-done a prior Denny's location and the interior is fresh, updated and looks new but is in need of some sound-deadening decor. When the place is just 3/4 full, it is very hard to have a conversation with the people sitting at your table. They have brought in some new menu items such as dim sum that they did not have at their old location. All of their prior great items are still on the menu and they must have brought their old cooks with them since the food is still great and tastes just like it used to. The dim sum offered is new and most of the items we ordered were great. There was a minor miss of an underset Portuguese egg custard tart and the Lap Cheong roll was filled with a standard hot dog instead of a Chinese-style sausage which was disappointing. But it was great to see another dim sum spot open in the Cities and their pricing is more than competitive with the spot down the road (rhymes with "andarin itchen" ) which is going to be an advantage going forward (the spot down the road has become downright too expensive!) For perspective, similar dim sum orders at both places for 4 people will run you about $20-25 less at HKN. I can overlook a bait and switch hot dog/lap cheong roll all day long for that kind of money. They have embraced some modern work flows here that are going to take some getting used to. Clearly they are trying to be very efficient as they have you check in on an iPad that pages you when a table is ready and they have you order on an iPad at your table that is tied to the kitchen. Servers run your food to your table when it is ready. There is very little interaction with a server and the process does seem quick and efficient. But it was missing the hustle of the steam carts in the normal dim sum environment and that was a shame. While I appreciate the forward thinking use of technology to improve efficiency, the old school charm of the rolling carts coming around was missed by everyone at my table. In that regard, the advantage goes to the spot down the road. Finally, what I really noticed was that they seemed to be short-staffed. The people working were really hustling but could not keep up well with clearing tables, bringing checks, running food, etc. And I did not know a single server in the place which I found odd because at the old HKN, before they closed, my family and I were friends with nearly everyone that worked in front of the house. This tells me that none of their old staff came to this new location with them and that they are probably hurting a bit for adequate help familiar with the customers and the food. Since it is a soft-open, it is understandable that they are still working things out. If they can address this issue and get it right, my next review will easily grant them a 4th star based on what I experienced today. I am so glad to see this place finally open and bringing some competition to this market. I also love the fact that they are now doing dim sum, albeit with a modern twist. I have no problem supporting them regularly and look forward to them smoothing out their staffing and showing us what they can really do when not under the cover of a soft opening. read more

Finally made it to the new Hong Kong Noodles location, and it was just as good as the old location on the U of M campus. Much more room in their new location, plenty of space and tables. They don't have the fresh fish tanks anymore, but I heard that's in future plans. You order everything on an iPad now, the whole menu is there and then someone brings it out to you once the kitchen has it made. So orders some hot and fresh, and you never know who's meal will come first. My meal, which was delicious, came about 5 min before my friends food, and our appetizer came about 5 min after that. They have a 18% gratuity added automatically, which is fine, but when tip is automatic, I feel wait staff can tend to be more complacent and not as attentive. You can always use the iPad to call the waiter, but that seems a bit much. But the food was so good, and their menu is huge! When Hong Kong Noodle moved to Bloomington I knew the next family dinner needed to be arranged. We arrived on a Sunday evening for dinner, the other reviews are right- the location makes no sense and you would never know it's back there. Once inside it's a little weird because it looks like the beginning of the restaurant but not.... maybe it'll be a bar/tea counter? Either way, keep on walking and you'll find the dining area. Our party of 7 was seated quickly and given two ipads to order off of. Hong Kong Noodle is family style, there's a big rotating lazy susan in the middle of the table. Portions are huge and meant to be shared with a group. We ordered: -Chicken fried rice- good but needed a little extra flavor. -Chicken lomein- I think I would pass on next time. -Sweet and Sour chicken- yum! -Beef and green onion- best dish we ordered -Seafood noodle- good -Cream cheese/crab wontons- not a single one left! Overall the food was good. Service was great and someone was always checking on us. I think the part that made me lose a start was they do an automatic 18% tip but when you go to pay it automatically selects *another* 18%. The staff are kind and attentive. Absolutely loved the food. We ordered some old favorites but also new dishes we haven't tied. We love it! It's the best Hong Kong style food we've found in the Cities! I don't know where else you can find the dumpling soups like they serve commonly in HK. (My fave is the boiled/steamed chicken topping off the soup broth and dumplings and rice noodles. And be sure to ask for the ginger/green onion sauce which makes it 3x as tasty!) All the dim sum we've tried so far have been great. And the dry-fried beef noodles are very good. It's all good value for the quality. We often go home with let-overs. Ambience is very nice, clean, tables well-set, good lighting and decor, some tables for a large groups. As you enter, pass the take-out desk and walk on in to the restaurant area. Staff are very helpful with the digital menu, and in ordering. Tea is wonderful. It's on the south side of 494, on 78th St. Take Chicago Ave north off American Blvd, and turn east on 78th, and find it tucked in a lot behind Microtel Inn and Suites. When we saw that other tables were ordering through iPads - we also followed suit only for another server to come back to us to tell us to order in batches.
