Virginia's makes a GREAT burger. Truly, if you are a burger person, especially if you are a thick, non-smashed burger lover, you're going to love this jammy onion marmalade-topped, cheddar-covered masterpiece. You're going to love the way the juices soak into the fluffy, marrow-aioli swiped bun, and you'll savor every beautiful bite. Beware though, this is a $20 burger, $29 with bacon and an egg, $41 if you add on the a la carte fries, and $60 before tax and tip if you want one of their excellent cocktails to wash it down (I like the perfect old fashioned, personally). That is not a cheap meal, but it is a delicious one, and sometimes you have to pay for quality. I've honestly never had anything here besides a burger, but I'm never disappointed. The room is spare but welcoming, but I'm partial to sitting at the bar, which usually affords you better service. I've been here twice for brunch now and neither time has disappointed! This time, I tried the french toast and the burger - the burger really does live up the the hype! I thought it had the perfect amount of saltiness, the cheese had the right sharpness, and it had a nice french onion flavor. The french toast was great too, although it was probably a little more doughy in the center than I would've liked. The crispy edges, cream, and berry compote were great though! One small note, our reservation was at 12:15pm on a Sunday. While the food did come quickly, they were clearly trying to get us out of there promptly. At 1:10, the hostess told us the next reservation had arrived and they needed our table. I was a little surprised - although we had finished eating, we had not even been seated a full hour. Such an underrated spot in the heart of the East Village. All the staff were so friendly, relaxed, seemed happy to be working and very upbeat. Came here for the burger and apparently everyone else did too. Overheard as the table next to me was leaving: "dude, those burgers were absolutely amazing!" AGREE. Came here for a last-minute brunch after our original place had too long of a wait. We split the banana bread which was a bit dry. I got the egg and cheese sandwich with no bacon. The sandwich was weird but good- the bread was unexpectedly sweet and quite pillowy soft, and the egg was like a soufflé which I don't care for. My wife and I had the burgers. They are a very sizable burger. However the buns could not handle the size of the burger. It is a very sloppy burger as the bun got soggy and weak. The burger was ok but not OMG by any standard. Mistakenly, we ordered two fries which were disappointing. Normally the bottom of the fryer has broken fries which are hard to grab and eat. That is what we received. Because of the broken fries and trying to eat 1/4 inch fries, I gave up. The burger was ok at best. Very sloppy where you need a half a roll of Bounty paper towels to complete that burger. It was worth a try but unless they address that soggy worthless buns, I would not be back. Food is pretty great! My friends for the burger and the risotto and they loved them both. I had the salmon which was also fabulous. The ricotta toast had a little bit too much vinegar for my personal taste but I really enjoyed the brussel sprouts. Do wish there had been some vanilla ice cream with the cookie. Run, don't walk to Virginia's for their burger! Not only was it well executed, but also just had all the things I personally liked in a restaurant burger. The tender and juicy patty was flavorful itself but the umami was amplified by the onion marmalade, which did remind me of a french onion soup like other Yelpers have mentioned. The savoriness was balanced with the creaminess from the marrow aioli and the cheese. The ratio of meat to bun was perfect and the buns did their job of soaking in all the juices. The fries were also delicious! I prefer skinny fries so I already knew it was gonna be tasty. Each piece was nicely fried until golden brown, very crunchy with a nice simple touch of salt. I also got to try the crab cakes. They were well seasoned with the hollandaise sauce and the right amount of dill! However I wish it had more structure/more of a binder. It came with snow peas which I really liked, but didn't feel like the two went that well together, or the ratio was off. Between the runny yolk, mushy (but tasty) crab meat, and blanched veggies, I felt like there wasn't that much textural contrast since all ingredients were on the wetter side. My friend's fried chicken sandwich also looked yum from afar. The espresso martini was really smooth; it comes in a shot form too! Didn't know it opened for brunch on the weekends or else I would have come sooner! Loved the hip, intimate vibes. Staff were attentive and food came out quick!! We didn't have a reservation but were able to walk in and get a table as they had just recently opened for the evening. Upon walking in we were greeted right away and a table was immediately available for HH only! Reservations are required if you want to dine for dinner. After binge watching Love is Blind for 4 hours, it took everything for my lil baby and I to peel ourselves out of bed to make our 6pm reservation at Virginia's. To be honest the last minute cancellation would have cost me $50, so that's really what got me... and that's so fair they should charge for last minute cancellations on a res. I've walked by Virginia's hundreds of times at this point, and made so many mental notes to pop in as it looks so inviting from the outside. Upon finally entering, I was right. Inviting af. As we sat down I became almost giddy for the meal, as the ambiance is so well curated. I'm a sucker for those little floating orb lights and an under lit bar ahahaha. We started with drinks (Negroni for me, obviously. My nickname in high school was Post Negrone), the little gem salad, and the crab croquettes. The little gem salad was out of this world honestly. I don't even know, I could have eaten 10 of those things. For mains, wifey got the burger per Yelp direction and I got the Steak Frites because I am on a mission to try every Steak Frites in the city. The burger is absolutely to die for. The hype is real. It's recommended medium rare, and it came cooked to perfection. I mean look at the attached pic, Jesus Christ. Every bite of this large beef patty amalgamated with cabot cheddar, onion marmalade, marrow aioli, and bacon is a juicy blast of heaven between 2 buns. It was spiritual. The Steak Frites was the best one I've had in NYC. Granted I've only had like 7-8, but still, head and shoulders my favorite right now. I mean again, just look at the pic attached. However the only negative, that is my civic duty to mention, was fries do not come with the burger... and the fries are an extra $12!?!?! DAMN. Me and wifey just split the fries from my Steak Frites so we were chillin, but an extra $12 for some fries? On top of a $20 burger? $25 if you add bacon too... $29 if you add the egg... I really began to worry about the future of the world when burgers stopped coming with fries. I wonder if they'll start serving scrambled eggs without bacon lol. That's when I'll know it'll be time to flee the country. Regardless of fry-gate, I loved this place... I don't hold it against them either, as most high end American places are doing this. I was traveling solo in New York. Inundated with options for dinner. I text my partner. She tells me to find a good steak frites. I apologize, for I did not find a good steak frites, I found one of the best steak frites I have ever eaten. Rumor has it Virginia's is known for their burger. Well, please start recognizing Virginia's as a spot to grab an ELITE steak. Yes, ELITE. I was able to grab a spot on their patio on a beautiful evening. I was surrounded by locals, which felt good. That's how you know you have found the spot. I came on a mission. To get my steak frites. When it came, I was complete. The steak: perfectly medium rare, salted to perfection, and the butter sent it to another dimension. There are certain meals you do not try to describe, you just tell folks to go eat it and hope they listen. This is one of those meals. Nice to sit in the outdoor dining area in front of the restaurant when the weather is nice. Everything I have had here has been basic enough but flavorful and consistent : crab cakes, burger, creme fraiche dip with homemade chips. Legit tried to copy the creme fraiche dip at home but failed to capture the deliciousness. Burger is similar in style to, but better than Au Cheval.......shhh. To start, the service was incredible and attentive right when we walked in. I enjoyed a Valentine's dinner here, which was a different menu than their usual dinner menu. Everything came out quickly and how we asked for it. The meat was cooked correctly, the mashed potatoes melted, and the flavor was there.
