Came to Red Hook area and had to come here after hearing all about the amazing dry aged burger. My friends and I came around 5pm to put our name on the waiting list and we were told to come back around 730-8PM. We got a text and when we checked in we were immediately seated in our table outside. The seating was nice and cozy and the waiter took care of us. We decided to get 2 burgers to share and the croquette appetizers. The croquette appetizers were cooked perfectly and the béchamel was creamy. The star of the show was the burger of course and we all thought the beef tasted delicious! They are on the pricier side but worth to get it every once in a while. I really wanted to love this burger. But the buns were overly toasted and the onion was much thicker than the pictures, making it difficult to eat. Overall still a delicious burger and highly recommend it. The service is choppy but they serve a lot of people through out the day so it's understandable. If you are a burger lover like me, you've probably heard this place is on a must-try list which makes sense just by seeing the pictures alone, but trying to get in is a whole separate adventure that turns most folks away. Assuming you've finally found a time on RESY or OpenTable or risked waiting in line for an hour before they open, the ambiance is warm but small, the menu gives a classic tavern/bar vibe with limited but rich options and the drink menu is solid with a good amount of martini options. Our waiter suggested starting with a salad, then splitting a burger and a pasta between my fiancee and I, so that's what we did. The Romaine Wedge Salad: 9/10 It's 7 green leafs, a giant slab of bacon and a really solid bleu cheese dressing. Upon first glance I didnt think it would satisfy that much but after cutting up a few small slicer of bacon and pairing it together with some chunks of bleu cheese and buttermilk dressing, the romaine provides a nice crunch that makes made it work really nicely. Surprisingly good The Oxtail Ragu Cavatelli: 9/10 At first, I thought it was just good. I couldnt really find the oxtail at first between the chunks of tomato and the flavors seemed muted with some spice and crunch from breadcrumbs and red pepper flake. I think this is just a problem with hot pasta. I wouldve given this an 8/10 but I brought my leftovers home, re-heated it, and overnight this just tasted so much better. I'd order this dish to-go, stick it in the fridge and eat it the next day every time because the next day flavors were awesome and bumped up the score a little. Dry Aged Burger: 8/10 The smell, the look, the cook (medium rare) and the buns altogether made the expectations extremely high before taking a bite. After taking a bite, a little left to be desired. The dry aged smell and flavor really comes through, but it stops short because there just wasnt enough salt on the patty to pronounce the meaty flavors more. A few bites and I started adding some ketchup to it and bam, instantly better. The tangy and saltiness from the ketchup really started to make the flavors bounce around and made for a better eating experience. I think most solid burgers shouldnt need the addition of help from condiments which made me shocked this one needed it, alas, I think it was necessary. The size of the burger for the price is a great deal though and the fries were solid, so I wouldnt say this burger was disappointing at all, just compared to other top places I expected a little more. So, we stood in line for 45 min last night to get on this list. Single digits with wind chill. It wasn't pleasant, but we were YOLO and knew we'd at least get a table at some point. Finally speak to the host at 5:15pm. She's pleasant, takes our phone number and says we'll text you when your table of two is ready. Fair warning, we're told 8:30pm. Oof. 3 hrs and 15 min wait. We go to San Pedro, throw back some pre drinks, obsessively check our phone over the next three hours. Our new bar friends and the bartender at San Pedro (love you Annie!) are all invested with us, cheering us on for the $32 burger that's about to come and then, and THEN, we get the below texts. Look. You can't tell people to hang out for THREE HOURS and then not come through. You are a well oiled machine, who handle a high volume on the regular! You have to kick a message out sooner than this. See snapshots. FYI: We weren't the only ones this happened too as we chatted with a few people in line. At complete disbelief, I physically walk back into the restaurant, show the host my text and say 'please tell me this isn't true'. Nervously, she reads it and says absolutely nothing. I explain how incredibly uncool this was and that they need to be honest upfront. Even, "there is a chance after waiting 3+ hours, you STILL might get locked out". We would have walked! This is the burger that you will tell your grandchildren about: *The Year is 2079* "I remember going to the Red Hook Tavern in December of 2024, I had the best cheeseburger I ever had, by golly!" They'll usher you back to your room, and because they've never had a cheeseburger before, because they are all vegans, they'll say, "Our Grandpa, what a kook, cheeseburgers, no one eats meat!" Visited RHT yesterday for lunch after snagging a reservation for 2 seats at the bar 2 weeks in advance. My son and I each had our own burger to see if it lived up to the rep. Happy to say it did! We are a bit of burger-obsessives so we have a lot of great and not-so-great burger experiences under out belts. This is a top 5 all time great burger for us. This burger delivered in every way. From the first bite, it was clear the patty was an absolute star: meat had great flavor and it was seasoned perfectly. The bun was perfect for it - just the right combination of softness and heartiness. I'm not a fan of raw onion but the bartender convinced us not to skip it since the heat of the burger softens the onion before you start to eat it, and he was absolutely right. Great accompaniment to the rest of the burger. Cheese was done just right too. This is a simple presentation for a reason. All of the components are balanced and add to the overall flavor. No sauce other than ketchup is provided or needed. If I had one gripe it would be that the cottage fries could have used a bit more crispiness and flavor. But I didn't come for the fries. I came for the burger and it delivered. (The French onion soup that we shared was also top-notch. Rich flavorful broth with perfectly crusty cheese. We didn't need the extra food but we had gotten a recommendation for it so figured, why not?) 4.75 out of 5 on our burger-quest scale. When we got here though, we were seated very promptly. Wish we had an indoor reservation since the tavern felt so cozy and french-like, but the outside was cute too and they had heated lamps that were almost too hot honestly. We got a french onion soup to share, which is perfect for the cold weather. tons of filling and flavor. We each also got the burger and you can order the meat either medium or medium rare. I got the medium rare and the meat was so tender that blood was oozing out (in the best way possible). There was also a nuttiness flavor probably due to the dry aged meat. Visited Red Hook Tavern for a solo lunch on a chilly Saturday in Jan. I usually have no issue with solo walk-ins at most restaurants, but this one I was actually close to not being sat before they closed after lunch service. I showed up at about 1:15pm, and was lucky to be sat at 2pm. Their last seating is 2:45pm before dinner service. I sat at the bar and ordered the burger and French onion soup. I understand this burger is a top nyc burger, but if you don't love thick burgers, it will be somewhat underwhelming. Personally I just prefer a thinner burger, so I won't be running back for it anytime soon. The soup was very good though, and the service was top notch. We came for one thing only, and that was the burger. Our friends raved about how delicious it was and we had a pretty good burger at Rolo's a few weeks ago, so we wanted to compare. We came early at 11:00 on a Saturday, but we were the first in line since they don't open until 12pm. The line got pretty long behind us, but 11:00 was definitely too early, maybe 11:30 if you want to get into the first seating. We came with a group of 6 and got 6 burgers + oysters and the kale salad to share. The kale salad was good and a nice starter! The burgers do take a while to make, so be patient because it's worth the wait. It's a single, super juicy patty that is thicc. I love how simple it is with just raw onions and cheese on a sesame bun I wasn't a fan of the fries, which were more like fried potato rounds.. I would've rather had regular fries. Compared to Rolo's, the bun is not as good, but it's definitely more juicy! When we tried to make a reservation for Saturday, they were all booked out. We decided to tempt fate and trek over for walk-in. We got there 30 minutes before they opened for the evening and there was already a line! This must mean it's good right? 5 comes, and they start walking people in. Luckily, since we were 4th in line, we got seated in 15 minutes at the 2 seats by the window. The person handling the check-ins was very friendly and so was the staff inside. We got to ordering. We got the burger and cavatelli. The staff warned us there may be a 20 minute wait for our entrees but we were fine. The cavatelli came first and it was a good start to warm you up from the unusually chilly April we're experiencing. The texture was chewy and the sauces tasty. There were some pepper flakes that kicked and kicked my body heat up as well. We get the burger and it is THICCC. Probably one of the thickest I've seen smothered with that cheesy goodness. The burgers do automatically come medium rare and some may not like the texture (I loved it). It was so juicy and flavorful and the cottage fries paired well with it. When we got dropped off out front, I thought we put in the wrong address. No big sign or lights out front, which really matches the vibe of the entire place and I love it. It's not large inside, maybe 8-10 tables total depending on the size of the parties. It's tight but too much so. What this does allow for is great service. The staff were super attentive and helpful when picking out food and drink pairings. Ended up getting the cheese board to start, and then the mussels and I had to try the cheeseburger. The cheese board was nice, with some great charred bread to accompany it along with honey from the bartenders farm which was a nice touch and delicious with the blue they were serving. My boyfriends new favorite burger in town--I personally thought it was a little too hearty and rich for me, but my man couldn't stop raving about this place! The ambiance is wonderful--cozy, indoor campfire kind of vibe that is absolutely magnificent for the uniquely cold winter NY is facing these days. We came right upon opening and were lucky enough to be able to be seated, as unfortunately many guests coming in at around the half past hour mark were turned away. Seating is hard to get here and for the right reason. Wedge salad is fantastic of the dill lovers out there. It was a little too herbacious for me but again my boyfriend loved it. My visit was almost a year ago and I can't believe it's taken this long to write a review. there is not much to add about RHT other then the burger LIVED UP TO THE HYPE. That and it went beyond how good i thought it would be. this is by far the best steakhouse burger i've had. I've given this recommendation out as the best burger in nyc so many times, ive lost count. there are so many components that make this mouth watering good, but how they incorporate the onion on the bottom is what separates it from the rest, imo. the other thing to report about RHT is, expect a line. However, i was really impressed with the staff. we came in as two families with young kids and strollers. the staff was happy to store them even with a packed house. read more

The food is simply amazing, I enjoyed everything Service was on point, I think one of the waitstaff was not too happy with me for taking photos, but didn't OD on me. The place the ambiance is simple and classic dim lighting great wine list I will go again to explore more of the menu. read more
