We ate here all three mornings, twice at this location and once at the newest one. They were busy for a reason. They serve delicious traditional breakfast food. Quick and large quantities-- you won't leave here still hungry! We had the French Toast, biscuits and gravy, omelet and hash browns,, pancake/egg breakfasts. All were great and too much for me to finish. Large glasses of soda which is especially nice when so many restaurants are giving you small ones with lots of ice and you have to keep trying to grab your server's attention for a refill! Red hut was a great breakfast stop! We were seated within 10 minutes, and our food was served quickly as well. I ordered the eggs and sausage, and my hubby ordered the famous red hut rosti! He loved it and said it was super filling. He added the 3 meat option, as well as a fried egg. My meal was a little lighter but still equally filling! The food was great and the service was quick, but the place is really small and tight. The waitresses would be bumping into each other when trying to take different tables orders. My family and I love to go to Red Hut when we visit South Lake Tahoe. The breakfasts are huge and the omelettes are delicious! I usually get the "make your own" omelette, cheese, mushrooms, spinach. The portions are large with a big serving of hash browns and toast. The Red Hut on Kingsbury is small, and has a true mountain feel. There is a nice view of the lake and the smell of the trees in the morning is refreshing and envigorating. I love to watch the locals here and the servers are all local people and make you feel at home. We come here early for breakfast and by the time we are ready to leave, there is a waiting list for breakfast. My son gets 2 pancakes,2 eggs served with 3 pieces of bacon or sausage and it amazes me that he can eat all of it. Have also had the Rosti which are hash browns with 3 different types of meat, loaded with cheese, and you can add eggs to that. This place is a true hole-in-the wall. Its probably less than 1000 square feet. It was also packed with people and had a line out the door. I ordered the Red Hut Roasti with bacon and an egg after reading the Yelp reviews. It was good, but there was too much cheese for my preference. The menu had the usual breakfast items. We have visited Stateline twice in the last year and this has become our go-to breakfast spot whenever we are there. We have tried the pancakes, the breakfast platters but my favorite is the Red Hut Rosti. The incredible taste of the cheese and bacon and sour cream and green onions is to die for. Everyone there is super friendly. If I had to give it one thing to improve on would be the coffee. It always tastes too weak for me but then again I love an insanely strong cup. We will continue to come here for years any time we are in town. read more

We were there on a Tuesday, but I could see this place having a wait during the weekend. The staff was super friendly and menu had a great variety of options for anyone. We ordered Coffee (of course, Great coffee!) a strawberry waffle and a custom omelet - Ham, mushroom, onion, monterey jack cheese with hash browns, instead of toast upgraded to a pancake! Been here an hour and still haven't eaten. After 20 minutes of literally being ignored, we asked if they would please help us. When I went to the counter for the second time to get a coffee refill, I asked if they were short-staffed, as can happen and I get that, but they said no. We got food from our car because our 7 YO was so hungry. Turns out they have a children's menu we never saw except on another table. Another table that came in 10 minutes after us got their food before us. The waitresses have zero concern for trying to do a good job. I can't get enough of this place when I come to South Lake Tahoe. The ambiance is so charming and the food is always nothing short of delicious. I always order the waffle topped with strawberries which is amazing but today I tried the corn bread waffle and WHOAH. The staff is always very nice and attentive and all my experiences here have been extremely positive. I'm having breakfast here as I leave SLT but I can't wait to return and visit Red Hut Cafe again! Lovely staff, and everyone is very friendly. The decor is cool, the music is great, and the hardwood floors are beautiful. Unfortunately, the food was tremendously disappointing. I went for the waffle and it was a flavorless, overly crisp, very tough (literal) challenge. It was like a plate-sized Eggo. The coffee was meh and the oatmeal was dry, but a lot of people struggle to prepare it properly, so that's somewhat forgiven. The bacon & eggs were good, but not enough to offset the waffle experience, so it will be a while before I'm able to try them again. Maybe next time I'll opt for a short stack of the pancakes. As always, YMMV, but my experience did not at all align with the majority. read more

I had heard so many good things about this restaurant and was very excited to try it out. I was pretty disappointed. I ordered a strawberry waffle with whipped cream and scrambled eggs, and my grandson got oatmeal and scrambled eggs. When the food came, no whipped cream and we had to ask for milk for his oatmeal. Also I had to ask for syrup. When she brought the syrup, the handle was totally covered in sticky syrup and she brought berry syrup. When I asked for maple syrup I was told they didn't have it, only berry. I asked another waitress and she brought it to me. Also the scrambled eggs came as a solid flat patty. We went to this location on Kingsbury two different times during our trip. Our friends agreed it was the absolute best place for breakfast. The "Usual" was unbelievably good...the hashbrowns, homemade biscuits & gravy and eggs were outstanding, and I don't even like biscuits & gravy! In saying, we did not make it up to Tahoe until quite late but the rest of the party was quite hungry so we zipped over to the cafe at around 1:00 pm. Good thing, because they were slated to close at 2. A feel-good interior of any Americana coffee shop, paying tribute with bright red vinyl chairs and laminate tables balancing on hollow steel rod legs. The space is long and narrow but makes for a nice warm environment. The kitchen opens up to the counter where a lone customer sat, silent but happy with his order of pancakes hot off the griddle. The menu echoes the sentiments of such an era with dishes you'll find in any diner: omelettes, pancakes, waffles, burgers and sandwiches. Add in the friendliness of the wait persons and you've got yourself the perfect cozy kitchen nook away from home. I ordered the Denver Omelet. This came taking up 1/2 of my plate, a protein studded 4-egg concoction with chopped onions, fresh green peppers and chopped pieces of ham. The other 1/2 of the plate replied with a heaping portion of hash browns. Crunchy bits of grated potato on the outside, steaming hot on the inside. Two pieces of wheat toast and a cup of coffee rounded off my order. $9.95. The other popular item on the menu was the "special", so noted because it came loaded with two eggs, any style, a side of hash browns and two biscuits smothered in a savory sausage gravy sauce. This plate was aptly given the recession buster price of $4.95. Another plate rounded with food. A great deal and several in our party order this, each and every time. Consistently. This place is small and cozy. The food is very simple, from pancakes to waffles and all the way omelets. I had the waffles and hash browns. Oh goody! The waffles were PERFECT I've ever tasted (salivating right now as I'm typing this review) and the hash browns were so creaking crispy and buttered perfectly. The service can be mildly slow, but it is understandable because this place gets so packed. People were standing all the way outside to dine here. We found the Red Hut Cafe while at a basketball tourney in Tahoe. The teenager actually picked up my phone and opened the Yelp App to find someplace to eat (I will make a Yelper out of him yet). This cool little restaurant is off the beaten path which I loved, and looked to be a local favorite. It is always a good sign when people are lined out the door. It is a small restaurant, but tables open up quickly. We were seated within 10 minutes and our server quickly took our orders. My only regret in life, besides not chasing the Burberry skirt, is that I have been going to Tahoe for years and have only just found out about the hut. Been going to Red Hut on Kingsbury for 25 years. Called this morning to get a take out order. Girl said wait a second, I'm going to get someone else to take your order. Waited 12 minutes then someone hung phone up. Called back and was treated rudely. This note is to owner. Pay better, get older, reliable, polite staff, keep customers. You should have heard what your staff was talking about for those 11 minutes. The last two take out orders have been wrong but we forgave the mistakes because we've been such loyal customers. One of my favorite spots to eat at when I'm in Tahoe! Red hut has tons of character. You have that old log cabin feel to it. It's not a big place, but huge on warmth from the customers to the employees. You feel like you know everyone. The food is great! Im a waffle whore! I mean gigolo! Haha (thanks David G) There waffles are da bomb! Crisp and light. I always get a banana pecan waffle. I loooove their hash browns. Freshly shredded and crispy yet tender on the inside. We decided to stop in for breakfast on our last day of vacation after searching for a good place on Yelp. We found this location fairly easy although I'm sure many people have passed the unsuspecting white restaurant. We got in right away and were seated. The ambiance felt warm and inviting; definitely a locals place during the weekday. We looked over the menu and decided on the Waffle Sandwich (waffle, eggs, and bacon or sausage) for me and Dons Special (2 pancakes, eggs, and bacon or sausage) with a coffee for BF. The food took a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. I dove right into my eggs and meat before going to the holy grail of the waffle. BF followed suit. The eggs were cooked exactly the way we liked them, the bacon was crispy, and the sausage juicy. The pancakes and waffle didn't disappoint either (yes, I sampled his meal)! This was my second time here, the first time being a pretty good experience. But this time it was pretty disappointing. Starting with how I ordered a coffee and the spoon in the coffee was visibly dirty. We were situated in the back of the restaurant and felt like we weren't attended to very well. We had to flag down the waitress pretty frequently for simple things like water and coffee refills, which I feel should be pretty standard for the waiter to keep up with. Truthfully, it felt like the serving staff was inexperienced. Food was pretty good. My boyfriend got a Red Hut Rosti and I got Don's Special. Food was good, but not amazing. Portions were very reasonable. Overall, I don't think I will be returning. Dirty spoon in my coffee is a big red flag and the service was subpar. read more

Red Hut...they had nice reviews on Yelp. Good enough to entice me to try it for lunch even though it was a little further than the other Red Huts to our hotel. We arrived a little after noontime and were quickly seated. I think a shack would've been more correct than calling it a hut. This place was one of the smallest restaurants I've been in. Luckily, there were not too many people eating in. We ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich, and the Emerald Bay Salad with cheese on the side. Our sandwich and salad came out pretty quickly. My wife was disappointed with her sandwich. My salad with cheese on the side? As you can see from my photo, it had cheese on both sides of my salad. Perhaps I should have asked for no cheese. The salad, after I removed all the cheese was pretty good. I liked the poppyseed dressing that came with the salad. Sorry, but, not worth the short extra drive for me.
