This is such a cute little neighborhood coffee shop. I love it because it's never really crowded, has a walk up window and and isn't pretentious or overly hipster trendy like other coffee shops in the area can seem. There's usually only one person working there, so you've got to be patient if there's a few customers in line. But they're still great with getting people in and out. Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Everything is made to order and doesn't taste all mass produced and artificial like stuff from Starbucks does. My girlfriend and I went to Red June on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at about 11:00am. We ordered within a few minutes. We were served at 12:35pm. During that time, we and other customers politely asked what was going on with our orders. The staff--there were three of them--were snippy and rude, and lied about everything. They kept telling people that it would be ten minutes. Then half an hour would go by, and the customer would ask again, and get a snippy response. Several customers became angry and demanded refunds. The rest were all angry. One customer, as he left, said they should get their s**t together, and one of the staff yelled at him, "Hey pal, we're doing the best we can! What's your problem?" But none of them every apologized for anything, and their "best" also included playing around with their phones while people's Sunday plans went down the drain. When our food finally came, the staff person just plunked it in front of us and walked away, without saying a work, and with a smirk on her face. The three staff acted like they were a little club that had their own secret handshake or something. It was the most childish display of rudeness I have ever experienced in a restaurant. If there is an adult in charge of this train wreck of a "restaurant," that person needs to clean house, because this hipster crew needs to be fired. read more

This is a great neighborhood coffee shop and is by far my favorite local spot! They have good coffee, great service and top-notch food! I've eaten here a few time and have been frequenting this place for some weekend breakfast carry-out. They put a lot of thought into their breakfast, just about everything comes with: a cup of fruit, which is an added bonus. I'm a black coffee drinker and rarely find a coffee shop making such consistantly delicious coffee for a fair price. I frequently order a breakfast sandwich which comes with a generous portion of fresh fruit of all kinds (not just a mix of melon and a couple of grapes)! The staff is second only to the coffee, and although I have never used the walk up window I am a huge fan. Longer hours would be welcomed, but I get it, it's a small neighborhood shop. read more

Red June is a great local coffee joint. While small, it is packed with personality. From its fresh baked treats, mini bagels (with avocado and tomato), board games to its walk up window were they hand out dog treats this gem is sure to meet your local coffee shop needs. I happily (re)discovered this place a few weeks ago. I had given up on Crenshaw's after coming to find them closed. I'm getting a late start on work today. I asked the guy at the counter how long they would be open and he said he was planning on staying open later than posted...till about 5. Excellent. Love the minor changes they have made. They removed some furniture so it feels more open. The music and service has improved. Coffee is good, prices are good. I have yet to try the food, but the fact that they have apple crisp on the menu looks promising. I hope to make this a regular spot for me. My only concern is the small space. It might not be good for my Saturday morning study groups. read more

I love this place, and I go there 2-3 times a week when I'm at my Bucktown office. It's great for both Breakfast and Lunch. The espresso passes the 2-prong test: (1) it is prepared correctly with the carmelization and without burning it; and (2) they stock a great espresso bean. As a result, if you're a java lover like I am, then you will enjoy how every espresso-based drink is outstanding...even just an espresso. Cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, etc... are all top-notch ingredients and well-prepared. You can get a variety of pastries: everthing from a Danish to Crescant. The quality on these items is very high because the dough is light but flavorful. Now, let's get into why this place exceeds all expectations: lunch. There are two--not one, but two--perfect sandwiches on their menu. I focus on the Turkey with all the Trimmings Sandwich. It has everything Thanksgiving could ever provide, but the culinary genious vibrantly shines in the form of bleu cheese butter. That's right! I didn't even know there was such a thing. The sandwich calls to you...and then, there's a second sandwich. Get over there now. The outdoor patio is a great spot to relax in the summer because its location to the north of the building permits you to enjoy shade thoughout the year. Next, there's a service window for walk-up service on that side of the building, too. Sitting inside, you can do the tall, solo bar chair thing or sit with 1-8 friends. There's even the ability to create a private room. I anticipate a large volume of business is neighborhood foot traffic, so finding a spot should never be too long of a wait. The peak time in the morning is in full swing, so you can easily make the Western or Armitage bus, or the Blue Line and not wasting too much time waiting on your coffee. This is my new favorite coffee shop in Bucktown now that the Beanery closed abruptly. read more

There's a difference between an owner and staff that fake friendly because they know they are supposed to and ones that are the genuinely great people. It goes without saying the folks at Red June are the latter. Red June has a terrific small coffee shop vibe going for it that makes anyone from the random off the street to us annoying people that show up a couple times a day for our fix feel welcome. When you think of what coffee shops used to be before the industry got taken over by the Starbucks and Caribous, this type of place comes to mind. It's small, quiet, personable, and has really good food. I usually get the breakfast burrito or the bagel sandwich. I come here with a friend and we usually play a board game in the back room where the couches are. Also, it's one of the only coffee houses I've been to that puts a red eye on the menu. I love it.....and now more than before. It is very cute and clean coffe shop. It has been just renovated with new counter and different colour paint. The food is very fresh. I tried the egg sandwich and also the california dream...delicious. Both!!! The prices are very convinient. The atmosphere and service are awesome. The WIFI very fast and of course free. I love the new arts and also the small lounge. It is very quite and relaxing for working there. You can tell that the new manager has a big passion other than be a very nice girl. My two daughters and I are very fond of our neighborhood coffee shop. We often frequent the restaurant to eat at the outside tables. My daughters love their oatmeal with strawberries, mini bagels with avocado, and the egg sandwiches, all of which are excellent. The service workers are always very friendly to us, and the service is usually pretty quick, unless they get a crush of patrons all at once. Value for the money is good especially with a nice cup of fresh fruit that comes with with the sandwiches. The restaurant is usually quiet, and the free Wi-Fi is appreciated. They have a walk up window if you're strolling around Bucktown and want to grab and go. They have a lunch menu that looks great as well but we never had the opportunity to check it out. I really wanted to like this place...I did. After driving twice around the block we found parking and walked into this adorably quaint place. And then it all went downhill. :( So we are clearly next in line and two people walk in behind us. The cashier/owner/cook (?) proceeds to greet the women behind us without looking at either me or my husband. My husband says hi and asks about how we order (should we sit first or order first?) And the rude response is that we should find a table and then come back..? So for all of you that haven't been here the place is so small that you could softly speak your order from your table and they could hear you at the front. So I chime in, "or we can just order now since we're already at the front of the line, right?" And she says "yes" with a condescending smile and takes the next customer. We wait for her attention after that customer and again we are skipped over. Hmm, not cool. At this point we walk out and go to one of the other 6000 well rated places in this city. I will refrain from stating which breakfast place we chose to avoid anyone thinking I'm biased, or am a competitor. Good customer service is priceless. Even if the ratings are true and the food is good, I'd rather have a mediocre meal and amazing service. Not cool. read more

First time here while visiting a friend for coffee I came a bit earlier than her and I tell you when you find a hidden gem in areas you never knew existed that for me are female owned businesses I tend to visit these spots more because when it comes to serving up great beverages and food these ladies can definitely do it right the first time. Friendly hidden gem that unless you're living around the area you wouldn't know about it unless you see a review online. (Especially from The Richlatino Chicagorican that speaks Spanglish not Spanish) The food menu has a variety of different options that cater for breakfast and lunch. Also have some vegan/vegetarian options as well. They have WiFi especially if you need to get work done. It's almost having a cafe spot that feels right at home when I am sitting right here. Music is really great and not loud like other cafe shops. I can guarantee if you have never been here or if you live in the area and didn't know about this gem it will take you from June to July through all the months wanting to come back. So for Red June Cafe I give them my personal 5 star recommendation on all to come check this place out. Friendly atmosphere, great music, awesome decor. Yumtastic options its great! read more

We were visiting family in the area yesterday. Stopped for a quick breakfast.The cafe was moderately busy but it took ONE AND A HALF HOURS to get breakfast sandwiches for 6 of us!!! We had already paid so we couldn't walk out. The sandwiches were just OK and one of the sandwiches had the tiniest pieces of sausage on it. Where they running out? Two positives I can say is the latte was good and I tried the Turmeric Ginger tea which was amazing. I ordered some from the company in Milwaukee to have at home. I live in the neighborhood and try to support small businesses as much as i can. I loved this place because of the food and coffee. However, beware the walk up window. Every time I've used it it has taken more than 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge that I'm there. So eventually i just go inside, which wasn't an issue before. But today as i walked up to the window (there was no one in line) i waited for 10 minutes with an antsy toddler who was patiently waiting to go to the park after mommy gets her coffee. I would have went inside to order . because it seems they get priority (a woman who walked up behind me and was waiting went inside and she got service before me), but i had a double stroller with a sleeping baby and my toddler in it. Mind you, there are 2 big steps to get through the entrance and theres no way i was going to pick up a stroller by myself up these giant steps. Also, not wheelchair accessible im assuming. Anyways, i used to love this place but for any parent with a stroller who appreciates a good walk up window don't go here unless you have someone with you who can go inside and order. Btw, as i was waiting for someone to notice me, i finally asked if they were taking window orders and the girls just looked at me and shrugged. Bad service if you ask me! read more

Let me start off by saying this is in no way reflective of the staff or product. This place is a great neighborhood coffee joint...when you can move around or hear yourself think. One minute you're working quietly, enjoying your food, the next minute you're SWARMED by moms, strollers and children screaming. Its very small inside(which is part of the charm), but the parents have decided that it's okay to bring their 2+ strollers right inside the door, blocking any chance of getting anywhere (there's a walk up window for a reason) I understand that kids are kids and you can't expect them to always behave. This review really goes to the parents. You're in a public space. PLEASE for the love of god be respectful and realize that not all of us think it's cute when your kids scream or run around. I use this space as a quiet place to work and enjoy some coffee, not to have a kid crying in my ear. Word to the wise-come in after 11am, that's when most of the chaos has calmed down.
