This is one of my favorite coffee spots in Bucktown. Good coffee/drinks and food. The chai latte is also good. I usually go on weekday mornings. It's not a huge space, but a decent place to work if you find an open table (rarely a problem). I like that this place is smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood and across from a school. All types of people come through here, including families and their kids, which I think is cool. Staff is friendly. Usually good music playing. Come here! Most of the patrons are studying or working. It felt like we were bothering people. The plus side is: great coffee. I really wanted to like this place and I keep going back despite the slow service (although typically pretty friendly) and bad espresso, but I decided that today was my last time. Drinks with espresso here are simply bad and overpriced. Additionally, they only had one barista there to take orders and make the drinks/food, which slowed things down. The employee did not know how to make oatmeal, put sugar in it with his hands, and also picked something out of it with his bare hands to throw away, all while FaceTiming his friend. I threw it away as soon as I left. I'm a little tired of giving this place second chances. It is a cute shop with pretty nice employees, but I've never been happy with an order. read more

I really really wanted to like this place. Super close to home and we need java like asap! Stopped in on a Saturday late morning. Luckily there were seats. Meals are cheap and their portion sizes are good. You also get a side of chips which is a weird accompaniment to a breakfast burrito. Food is what you'd get if you met a girl for the first time passed out and she offered to make you breakfast in the am. Like I'm hungover and saying you should stay for seconds but my brain is mush so here's some chips cause I'm too lazy to make hash browns or potatoes lol Here's my biggest pet peeve is their coffee is gross... it's your run of the mill folders and sure it'll do the job but when there's Starbucks and Ipsento and even the bar map room has better coffee you should step your game up. I always drink my coffee black and I had to put in some sugar and milk and it still wasn't that drinkable... The place reminded me of your aunts house that she's owned since 77 and hasn't renovated since she moved in. Got some board games and children's toys. Maybe I made a mistake of not getting a latte but the food and coffee were a little underwhelming. It's funny cause it's the #1 spot when you pull up breakfast in bucktown. I love supporting local cafes instead of chains like Starbucks down the street but was disappointed in Red June. I have some gift cards so I have to use them but will probably not return once they're up. For one, the manager, owner- not totally sure but she's definitely in charge, has a bad attitude. Saw her mistreat an employee in plain view. Kind of uncomfortable as a customer to see that and that alone made me not want to go back. But the food also sucks and is way over priced. The two stars are for their pastries which taste good and some of the coffee drink are decent. Hope the manager/ owner lady relaxes more while on the floor in front of guests and treats her co workers better. read more

So I order for delivery.. one breakfast burrito and and sourdough sandwich. If you guys know the breakfast burrito comes with tortilla chips when I got my food the chips where all over in the brown bag at least you could do is put it in a cup or a small bag or something it was all over the place. Also, the burrito taste like something You just throw together quickly and there was no cheddar cheese. The salsa for this burrito being this expensive you guys could have filled it up after you just threw a handful of tortilla chip in the brown bag it was not enough. I'm very disappointed that they don't even try with the food and I never complain but this is a very half-ass job they did on my order. I'm a big fan of coffee shops, especially coffee shops that put Starbucks to shame. This place is a bit unassuming tucked away in a neighborhood setting across from a school. Very cute and cozy. I ordered a medium coffee with pumpkin spice and it was strong and just what I needed on a gloomy Saturday morning. I also had the best bagel breakfast sandwich ever! The fluffiest eggs with a pile of turkey and cheese on a bagel with a side of fresh fruit! The sandwich was big enough to share, but you won't want too. I really enjoyed my time there on a snowy, yucky, cold Saturday morning. It's small, quaint and deliciously old-fashioned and a tad derelict but it makes it all the more comfortable. Precious in the middle of Bucktown. Get a seat in the little room in the back - there are couches and a fireplace. Settle with a creamy café au lait (served in a mug) and you are good to stay. Winner. Like: they have 4 sizes for drinks; the traditional small, medium and large, and a JUG to go!!!!! I found it pretty awesome, and so did the sweaty worker in torn overall who stopped by to get his fix. And I wasn't even in a Levi's commercial. read more

We live 1 block away from Red June. We frequent there from time to time but the latest outdoor food pickup was extremely slow. We ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. No coffee. It took 30 minutes, luckily the weather was nice while waiting outside. I could see through the window that our sandwiches were done off the toaster. They sat there for an additional ~10 minutes until the hostess finally packed our food. I did hear the blonde owner talk with another patron how Sunday's were worse bc people are hungover and rude. Saturday patrons are much better. Thank you for your honesty, Big Bird. So far so good, meeting a client here and discovered that the interior had plenty of customers at 3:15 pm in the afternoon, this spoke volumes about the quality of the restaurant/coffee shop. Unfortunately I didn't feel that sitting inside with so many other customers in a very quiet room would be a good place for a business meeting. Oh Red June, just a little delight off the Armitage strip. What a friendly little neighborhoodery. All the coffee drinks are fantastic and the food is great. I really like how all the food is made to order instead of tossed into a microwave. I easily love it more than starbucks. Now for the bad - They seemed to really struggle with a larger order. We had four drinks and four plates. I understand that it takes a little while to put the drinks and food together, but they came out so far apart that people were done with their meals by time the next plate arrived. Folks behind us were getting drinks so they could be on their way. That would be fine (since we dined in), except you have already started giving us our order. Once you've committed to an order, those folks should be served all their drinks (seems like the right thing anyway). Lastly, they forgot one of the sandwiches all together. I appriciate that they quickly fixed the situation. I will definetely return as the place had so much charm. I'm positive the next experience will be better. read more

I would love to like this place more. I live around the corner and have been probably a dozen times over the last year. Its just so slow and understaffed. The single employee working today was trying to do coffee, all good prep, and take orders. Needless to say, the line was ridiculously long for extremely simple orders. He didn't even get to making my sandwich until about 10-15 minutes after the bagel my girlfriend ordered was already out. When it's all said and done, it'll be a 30 minute+ trip to the coffee shop. I'll probably just start walking the extra couple minutes to Starbucks instead. As much as I love supporting local businesses, when the operations are so inefficient, it's hard to have the motivation to return regularly. read more

I'm not sure what "a quick coffee" is here. Ordered 2 iced coffees and 2 breakfast sandwiches. Took 18 mins to receive our "iced coffee". Luke warm and watered down because all the ice had melted immediately. I understand pouring an espresso over ice, voila, an iced americano! But hot coffee over ice = watered down, luke-warm coffee. The food took about 30 minutes and was honestly pretty good, hence the 2 stars. It was hard for us to appreciate the food because we were so aggravated by our service. Very rude to take our order in front of 4 other customers and then because we aren't "regulars" yet, wait and watch while all 4 of those other people (who ordered after us) received their food AND coffee before us. We want to like this place! We have lived about a block and a half away for 3 years! We will definitely give Red June another try.. all the positive reviews speak for themselves. Our experience does not seem to be the norm. I will update my review when we return, but for now, all I can give is 2 stars. read more

Well, why not a cute coffee shop that takes the effort in everything they do to make great quality food & coffee that tastes delicious... What I loved even more than the quality of the items that went through my stomach, is the way the workers treated me as a first-timer. Determined not to let the rain get the best of my Saturday, I decided to give Red June a try for lunch. Like other reviewers, I was never a fan of Crenshaw's (the coffeeshop formerly occupying this location) so I was a little nervous that I would trek to RJ only to find them closed (as Crenshaw's always was). I liked this place instantly - good crowd (but not too crowded) and a good combination of tables and couches. I had the Italian panini (tomato, mozzarella, and basil) and the soup of the day (tomato basil, delightful thematic for a lover of tomatoes and basil). Both soup and sandwich were delicious. The guy working behind the counter was fantastically friendly and brought my food out to me when it was ready. This being a coffeehouse, I had to try the coffee. Post-lunch I had a large houseblend, which arrived in a delightfully big mug. I read and sipped my way through an hour or so and accepted when they offered to "warm up" (i.e., fill up) my coffee. I overheard a table beside me talking to one of the guys who worked there about the desserts RJ offered. Turns out he makes some of them himself! After talking up the apple crisp, they brought around small samples for everyone to try! Delicious and greatly appreciated. Friendly service, good coffee. I'll be back. read more

Bucktown has converted me to its wonderful, quaint little neighborhood coffee shops. First Ipsento, now Red June! Something about these small, family run places makes me feel like there is just more love going into all aspects of the business. I came here one day when I was working remotely, and ordered a wonderful pumpkin donut with some green tea. The tea was your usual grocery store brand, but the donut was remarkable! It was light and fluffy but still dense and crumbly like a cake donut should be. The outside was coated in sugar and the pumpkin flavor was pretty strong, deeeelish. The restaurant itself is small and adorable, and is so cozy you feel as if you're inside someone's house. I sat in the back corner in a room by myself and did some work, but sadly I had to head home before I could try any of their sandwiches for lunch. read more

We ended up coming to Red June for breakfast on both days that we were in Chicago last week. On Saturday, it was because we arrived in Bucktown fresh from our redeye and in desperate need of breakfast, and Red June was one of the few options at 7AM. On Sunday, it was because brunch lines elsewhere did not jive with our packed schedule, and we were already fans of this coffee shop. I got to try both the avocado toast and the mini bagels as my breakfast options. The avocado toast was generously spread with...wait for it...avocado, and also included strawberries, olive oil, and onion in the spread. Simple, delicious, filling. The mini bagels were each topped with cream cheese, incredibly flavorful olive oil, a slice of tomato, and a slice of avocado. The plate came with a side of delightfully fresh fruit. This was a more filling breakfast, but also just as enjoyable. I didn't get too adventurous with my drinks, and only stuck to drip coffee on both occasions--it did the job. With extremely reasonable prices, friendly staff, easy enough seating, and an unpretentious crowd, Red June was a fantastic breakfast destination for us out-of-towners. Highly recommended! read more

Great biscuits and gravy. Some of the best I have ever tried. Has a nice little hipster vibe, as most joints in the Bucktown/Wicker Park/Logan Square area have. One of my favorite parts of Bucktown are gems like Red June that are set back on residential streets. Being lactose intolerant and not a fan of soy, I'm happy to see they have almond milk as a dairy substitute (for the same price as soy!). They have a decent selection of breakfast & lunch food, plus hot, cold and seasonal drinks. It's a pretty small spot but if you can find a seat it's a nice place to work, read or play a board game with kids or friends. The walk-up window is also a nice option for people out walking their dogs. read more

I don't drink coffee, but I do enjoy warm baked goods(imported I think) and good customer service, so that is why I stop here every once in a while. Love this adorable breakfast spot! Tucked away on a quiet corner, Red June is a great place to grab a quick bite for brunch. All of the pastry items looked phenomenal, but we were in a savory mood. I built my own breakfast sandwich on an english muffin, with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was huge and really tasty! It also came with a side of fresh fruit. The boyfriend ordered the breakfast burrito, complete with hash browns, cheddar, eggs, and sausage; he was thrilled, to say the least. Both of our dishes were very reasonably priced, at $5.50 and $7.75, respectively. We both ordered coffees and loved that they serve Julius Meinl. There isn't a ton of seating, but we didn't have any trouble finding a table. Overall, great option for a quick bite for breakfast. It feels like after a week of stopping by, the folks behind the counter would be able to greet you by name, which is always awesome. The ambiance was cozy and homey. Exactly what I expect from a neighborhood joint.
