Curse of the Bayou needs a redesign. We played against some friends and they were able to win and set the record by brute forcing guesses. The punishment for guessing is not strict enough. You literally lose by playing the game fairly. Would not recommend this room until it's fixed read more

I booked the virtual escape room, the Hardin House, for my friend's birthday yesterday. It was my first experience doing an escape room in general and my two other friends' first time doing a virtual one. We had no expectations but had a total blast!! The game host is really awesome, friendly, and a great moderator! The story line was captivating and REALLY smart. It contained some really interesting details and clues that tied together the setting and story. We got really into it! For those that are looking for a fun virtual zoom activity, definitely consider this one!! I'm still blown away with the quality of it and can't wait to go to the physical location in Brea to try out some of their in-person escape rooms! I am a fan! read more

So today nine of us tried and failed The Red Latern Escape Room, Midnight on the Bayou. Pros: really big room, nice props, great host Cons: Poor lighting (we were not allowed to use our own flash lights), Some clues seemed very vague. We still had a good time, but we were very disappointed that we didn't make it out Side note *I can't read very well without my glasses and the little fake lights the GM gave us to use were absolutely no help. *Lots of locks to open up *I really did not think this room was worth the $35 pp and it is not because we didn't make it through, it was because the GM was upset that we solved a clue before we were supposed to. read more

A very unique escape room experience! My group were running late on a very late booking for Curse On The Bayou and the owner was incredibly kind and generous to us, allowing us to arrive late without taking time off our game (something he, obviously, had every right to do). Once we arrived at the room we were surprised by how unique the experience was, going beyond the traditional team based room. There was a competitive element to it (something I've never seen at another escape room) and it was a much more observation, rather than item, focused game. Was on my toes the whole time! read more

This was such a fun experience.The guys at Red Lantern were so awesome, the room was large enough to fit I think 6-8 "puzzles/riddles" plus they never broke character which was impressive all by itself! It was challenging and made you really think and try to put clues together and when we were stuck we got together as a group and tried to figure it out with everything we solved prior. While the room itself was a fun, engaging experience, there were a couple of things that were not very well explained. Despite there not being a visible timer, it would have been so nice to have more than a 30 second forewarning before our time was up because we had been so close to solving the final puzzle but were admittedly lacking a sense of urgency without knowing how much time we had left. Additionally two of our groupmates tried to use a hint from the roommaster but the roommaster didn't see their request so we thought there was no hint available and didn't get to use any hints... otherwise it was a fun experience but we unfortunately left with a slight bad taste in our mouths because we felt we could have escaped with just those minor tweaks read more

I am so torn on this one. I want newbies to check it out because the puzzles are not too hard or overwhelming and it's an immersive experience, so it's a great introduction to escape rooms that is less intimidating than most. It has good production value and a cute story that I enjoyed. However, mild spoilers ahead, it isn't challenging enough for escape room veterans to enjoy. Some of the clues were much too blatant and simplistic for escape room veterans. Many of us were overthinking the puzzles because we didn't think it would be so clearly spelled out for us (sometimes literally). Also, we had a hard time trying to swap puzzles because each parallel path of puzzles was very linear. We couldn't really tell what was already done without having to re-do or re-explain the puzzles to our teammates who wanted to take over for us. For that reason it was a little too linear. It works better for larger groups because you can break into smaller groups and take different "paths" which is a nice unique feature but due to the fact that you have to re-walk the steps if you want to change paths, it can be a little annoying. For future rooms, perhaps keep the parallel paths but make it easier for people to pick up in the middle of a path. Notwithstanding the above, I can tell so much effort and thought was put into crafting the story, the puzzles were all cohesive and in-theme, and the decor was high quality for an escape room. I think this would have been a much better room if I hadn't already done 40+ others before it. I like more challenging and complex puzzles so this one wasn't to my taste but I am sure many others would enjoy it. For scaredy cats like me, there are a few sudden lights and noises but it wasn't bad at all. read more

(64th room) Back when we played this room..we met Roy (one of the owners) who has a love for magic and his room. We are only a team of 3 and his room requires 4 minimum. Seeing as we are a small team..we decided to ask if it was some way doable. He hadn't tried 3 people, so he decided to let us play and give it a go. Let me tell you this room DEFINITELY needs 4 MINIMUM maybe even 6 to be comfortable to successfully complete the room at an enthusiast level. We did pretty well considering our limitation. The room itself is beautifully decorated and is spacious enough for a huge group of 8 to run around. The puzzles were medium-difficult and there was indeed a lot to do which made it more difficult. It follows a story line which is important to me when it comes to rooms..and the bayou followed through with that. It's been awhile since we played, but I'm sure it still has that same swampy feel that it had back then. It has that creepy circus yet I'm riding the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (you know that part in the beginning of the ride? With the swamp and old man rocking in the chair? Yeah that part) kind of atmosphere! Anywho, go play Roy's room. You will enjoy the room and decor. P.s. there is plenty of parking and easy to find! read more

We needed ONE MORE MINUTE and we would have set all the spirits free!!! We are now stuck in Limbo land! Such a fun and challenging event. We did this today as a work Christmas party and I highly recommend it. It was well thought out and put your mind to the test. The difficulty is a great level for smaller experienced groups and larger newer groups. The puzzles were clever and had someone doing something at all times. What an amazing work team building activity! There were 6 of us that work together and we really wanted something fun to do that would be a way for us to connect outside the office. This was the perfect choice! The space was really well set up, the game was not super difficult but also not too easy (and they did help the couple of times we needed it), and there was humor thrown in through the session as well. It was a fun theme and WE ESCAPED!!! Most of all we had fun and bonded. It was such a good experience that we went back to work and other teams we work with are going to now do it too. This was only my 5th escape room experience and I can't wait to continue trying more! What I absolutely loved about this escape room was that the storyline was great - a lot of thought went into the plot process of making this room. This was my first escape room where a staff member was actually in the room with us, playing character to the story and directly helping us along the room. The room's decorations and details were so elaborate and nice according to the theme. The room itself isn't necessarily creepy, but the storyline is somewhat eerie - which makes it better in my opinion. I feel like the eerie/kinda spooky escape rooms are better, you definitely are more invested when trying to escape. I will definitely return when Red Lantern extends/opens more. read more

This is my 30th room, yet I still felt the wonder, wow, and awe I did from my first escape rooms. Midnight at the Bayou is a 4-12 player experience, keyword experience. This room is full-immersion as you really feel you're in the setting with the environment, the lighting, the sounds; there's even a live person in the room with you (part of the storyline) who does not interfere with your game. They featured the most unique way I've ever received hints; no walkie talkies, no dancing/waving toward the camera (there are no cameras), no passing notes in and out of the escape door. The puzzles are non-linear, and they are thematicly designed to fit the story. Oh yea, there is a story involved, and it's not just a generic "rob a bank", "defuse the bomb", "find the secret" story. The best part of any puzzle is the moment you solve it. If you've watched "The Prestige", you know for every magic trick, there's "the Pledge, the Turn, and the Prestige". Midnight at the Bayou really, REALLY amplifies the reveal to a whole new level with their effects. Midnight at Bayou has a whole lot of personality that everyone, veteran or newbie, will enjoy. read more

The room was very well decorated, had lots of space, and the puzzles were really well thought out and the whole room was designed great. Currently, Red Lantern Escape Rooms has one game called "Midnight on the Bayou" which is advertised as the largest escape room in Orange County standing at a whopping 1,000 square feet of playing space. Upon hearing this, my hopes and expectations were high especially after having done 30+ escape rooms which have both amazed and disappointed me. This escape room was nothing... nothing short of amazing! The theme of the Midnight on the Bayou is that you and your friends are attending a high school reunion on the bayou in Louisiana. Except, a barn fire on the exact spot your reunion is on took the lives of former classmates. Now you are your friends are tasked with letting the spirits of the deceased cross over into the spirit realm, before you are trapped with the spirits! The scenery of the room is absolutely amazing. Upon walking into the room, it really felt like we had walked right back outside again. Though I personally have not been to a high school reunion myself, it truly felt like I was attending a real high school reunion. The puzzles all fit the theme of the room perfectly and though some were difficult to our group, it never pulled us out of the immersion. All the clues you ever need to solve the puzzles are never out of your reach in any way shape or form, no outside information needed, no nothing. In the end, my group escaped with less than 30 seconds remaining!!! The last puzzle had us stuck for a solid amount of time but we eventually got it (teamwork y'all!). read more

I've done 40+ escape rooms and I absolutely loved Midnight on the Bayou. It's easily in my top 10. We did this room with a group of 8 enthusiasts and it was still down to the wire by the time we escaped (can't remember how much time we had left, I think it was about 4 minutes). Ive heard of people passing this room with just 2 people but I'm not sure how. The way the room is set up is pretty perfect for large groups. The puzzles in the room ranged from moderate to challenging. There's one particular puzzle that's very difficult, not only to figure out what to do but also how to complete it. I also loved the mix of technology with "old school" escape mechanisms, like good old fashion locks and keys, hunting for clues, riddles and puzzles. That paired with a great ghost story made this room a hit for me. I can't wait to see what red lantern does next. read more

What an absolute blast! I absolutely loved the set up and design of the room. It was tough but with teamwork, we were able to figure it out! I feel like you are blowing it by saying you love Escape Rooms and you don't come to Red Lantern. I haven't even talked about the customer service. Our group had a great time at the Midnight on the Bayou last weekend! This was only my 2nd time ever experiencing an escape room & it was a fun way to really start getting into the hang of these things. I liked that our group was able to split up & work on different puzzles/riddles at the same time. The riddles were pretty challenging & I nearly wanted to give up & just have my friends do it all (LOL), but I'm glad I continued working thru the clues because it turned out to be satisfying to contribute to solving each riddle! I'm looking forward to the new escape rooms they plan to expand with & I hope to come back w/ the same group of friends to experience it with as well ! read more

I am an avid "escape roomer" and this experience was so cool! A resounding 5 stars. Our host never broke character which I appreciate so much. I love feeling immersed, almost like it's Disneyland. We had a group of 10 and I believe it lent to our success. We got out with 10 minutes left to spare! I think if we didn't have a big group we wouldn't have made it out. There are so many riddles that you really need to work together. The clues/riddles/answers were all so different and fun! The story and set is really well done and the quality of the props is top notch! I can't wait to see what they do with their second room. read more

What a fun experience! I have played 116 escape rooms as of writing this review, and I really enjoyed Red Lantern's escape room Midnight at the Bayou. It has a great unique story that I haven't seen before, and the production value of it makes it feel very grand. There are some things I kind of wish was used more (if you play it, you'll know what I mean), but it's still a really fun and great game to bring especially LARGE groups to. Most escape rooms around the area have limits of around 6-8, but Red Lantern is much larger and can accomodate larger groups, especialy great for teambuilding. read more

This was my first escape room experience and I was immediately blown away! I had an idea of what to do, but upon walking inside, my group was immersed in the whole game and ready to start. The location is large so you can really explore the area; which also makes things a little harder. The subtle noise, music and dim lighting really bring you in the story. Justin was our host and he was perfect! He really set the tone from the very beginning. The story had the right amount of spooky mystery and it was challenging! This really made me want to do more!
