Came here back in March for my birthday after going to the Gspa. We also stayed overnight at Foxwoods. Hate to say it but the spa, this restaurant, and our room were all just ok. $700 for a room. The casino is wildly expensive. Ambiance - extremely dark in here. Next to the restaurant is the club and thankfully we ate and got out of there before the club got going. Got sat next to a bunch of moms with their cheer kids who looked miserable after their cheer competition. That or they were tired. Looked like a bunch of brats to me. The food - just ok. Didn't wow us. Started with the pork dumplings. Big appetizer! Came with 6 pieces. I asked for the crispy onions on the side. They were tasty. I then got a sushi roll. I believe I got the crunchy roll without the tempura flakes. Boyfriend got the salmon. He said it wasn't bad. What was really awful was the mochi they served when they came out to sing happy birthday. It was disgusting. My boyfriend paid extra for the singing act and dessert and I felt bad that he paid extra for this since the dessert was terrible. It was pretty funny how the staff come out with masks and a fake cake and sign. After mine they sang with their ensemble to like 4 other tables. Seems popular. Overall ok restaurant. read more

I came to Red Lantern with my wife and was hoping to experience a great meal. The ambiance was very nice with dim lighting, red lanterns throughout the restaurant and an open kitchen design. I love the open kitchen design because you can see and smell what is going on in the kitchen. The food unfortunately didn't impress me at all. I had the steak noodles that seemed to be tossed with pre-made salad mix that you'd find at your local supermarket. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare and tender) and had sweet, tangy flavor. All in all, not a terrible meal, but the salad mix on a sautéed noodle dish wasn't that enjoyable. We also ordered an assortment of sushi. The sushi was edible, but the rice was too dense and mushy. We ordered the salmon, unagi along with other seafood and it was just OK. The service was good. I thought that our waitress was attentive, polite and brought us our meal as soon as it was available. Oh so perfect. So now we do this thing, every time we go to Foxwoods, we come here for a few light bites to share before we see a show, concert or simply a night of drinks and gambling. When your eyes finally adapt to the darkness the menu offers a Fusion blend of Chinese and Japanese food. We ordered the General tso's chicken, teriyaki steak noodles and a sushi rainbow roll. The general tso chicken was too bready and the sweet and sour sauce was bland. The teriyaki steak noodles was greasy and the skirt steak tough and chewy. We were disappointed to say the least. The highlight of the night? The rainbow roll was the best dish of the evening. The tuna, salmon, hamachi, white fish was fresh and everything in the roll worked perfectly together as the textures and flavors were spot on delicious. Unfortunately, I left disappointed as the main entrées missed the mark. In addition the red light effect reflecting off the dishes takes away in appreciating any plate appeal. We have always walked by this place and finally stopped in - it's now a new favorite! We were able to walk in and take a seat at the sushi counter without a reservation, which was so great to not have to wait and to also watch the kitchen work - very cool! Service was friendly and quick, always refilling our drinks. I loved the avocado maki roll and the general Tso's chicken entree. Seemingly every time that I have dined at red lantern the food has always been spot on. I've got plenty of pics to prove. Here are just a sampling of all of the meals I have experienced. Each time the sushi is super fresh, and I believe they have some of the better chefs in the industry. I've also gotten to experience sushi making classes, hosted by big night entertainment, which is the group that owns this establishment(they own several..(worth googling). Super cool and learned a lot about the requirements and the entire process. The service is always stellar and I don't recall anything but perfect service from the hosts to the bartenders, managers, and everything in between. It takes an entire killer staff to continuously pack them in day in and day out, never wavering from the quality. Great for group dining for special occasions as they have a dining area that can be reserved, but I would call weeks ahead and ask about that knowing it could be booked out! Honestly, it was OK. Like most places at Foxwoods. You get all amped only to have mediocre food and ok service. The only cool thing about the place other than the lighting was the fact that it's in conjunction with Shrine night club below, so you can usually get deals for tickets. We find the Food Excellent, the Ambiance Relaxed and Authentic with its lovely lanterns and The Service has always been Attentive but never hovering. We were EXTREMELY disappointed to find it CLOSED when we visited on Wednesday 6/11 and to see that the hours were cut to Thursday-Sunday only!! There wasn't even a sign saying that, we had to look it up! Not a single Asian restaurant was available but The Red Lantern, in my opinion is the Best of them all! Red lantern is beautiful and moody inside like a NYC cocktail bar. Our waitress was also a gem and friendly. RL was marked as upscale dining, yet tons of folks were in sneakers and jeans... Ok -- Maybe they're feeling that casual NYC vibe..it was a Thursday after all. Yikes, the kitchen needs help. The spring roll appetizer was mushy and dripping with oil. Next, we tried the endless sushi promo. I had on my streeecchhy leggings and was ready to eat ! $30/pp allowed you multiple courses of basic rolls (Yellowtail, California, sweet potato, spicy tuna etc). While I appreciated that the maki rolls were made differently than what I'm used to (instead of spicy mayo, it's fish with hot sauce atop - OK!), nothing tasted super fresh. Yellowtail and Salmon were especially fishy tasting. If the roll was fried, it was quite oily instead of a crisp light tempura. (Looking at you, my friend sweet potato!). Could have eaten more but wasn't feeling it. Maybe it was the two glasses I wine I had... Still, I can get better tasting sushi from strip mall joints at home. Visited Red Lantern for the first time over the weekend to catch dinner and drinks before a show. The restaurant is easy and fast to get to from the Fox Tower parking garage. I had seen pictures of the inside, and seeing it live did not disappoint - really liked the lantern theme, low red lighting and general decor and ambiance. We didn't have a ton of time to spend before the show, ordered drinks, 2 mains (a salmon dish and a flank steak dish) and a tempura roll. Managed to squeeze all in within our time frame and our server was very good. We loved the food - cooked well, very tasty. I am taking the last start off because the $15 mai tais were incredibly weak. My wife and I had 2 each within 1 hour and it felt like we had been given non-alcoholic drinks. It's the first time I had even considered the thought of returning the drinks, but we didn't have any other options. These were fairly small drinks, not fancy at all, and for the price should have a hefty pour imo. Aside from that, I'd return for sure! read more

Black pepper steak $32 And the kids ordered Golden chicken fingers $14 that came with no sides (keep that in mind) We all tried each others dishes and thought they were all great. I can't say much about the drinks since I'm expecting but the Saratoga water was bomb Now the bill was serious for a group of 9 (4 being children, I personally did not have a main dish or drinks) the total was almost $300 and we tipped an additional $40 besides gratuity. Definitely a great way to spend your birthday with friends, especially when it falls on a Monday! I just recently dined here for the first time. The atmosphere is very romantic but pleasant enough for a dinner with friends, it is just a tad dark in there but I was still able to read the menu. We ordered the rock shrimp appetizer and it was amazing. We were all talking about how delicious it was. For my meal I ordered the chili shrimp stir fry. Personally, I felt a bit silly ordering a dish for $28, however, it was so delicious and the portion was not skimping. I was able to get 3.5 meals out of that dish! So it is well worth the cost. So it has been some time since our last trip to Red Lantern and we decided to give them another try. We arrived a little before our reservation time and were able to have a seat at the bar to wait. The bartender was very attentive and poured a round of sangria for everyone in our group. It was delicious and I would not hesitate to have it again on the next trip! We were seated at our table and started off with a rock roll and lobster tempura roll. Both were fresh, delicious, and presented nicely! For my main dish I decided on the drunken noodles. I don't recall if I have ever had them before, but I know that I will absolutely get them again! I have always enjoyed the noodle dishes here at Red Lantern, but this one was probably my favorite! Wide, tender noodles, delicious flavored wagyu beef, and the delicious spicy brown sauce all totally made this dish. As always, the service was amazing from both the bar side as well as our waitress! Initial experience: Enjoyed the food; asked for a minor substitution, and no resistance or extra charge; will return for the chicken curry. Last experience: For lunch platter, they refused to let me substitute some extra rice for soup/egg roll; to make it clear, I didn't want the soup or egg roll. The story was that my first experience was a one time thing. They did the right, decent thing the first time, and for some strange reason, it couldn't be repeated?!? Manager was expressionless and couldn't even communicate with me - a total lack of concern, reason or learning. I doubt that a little extra rice even costs them more; but even if it does, all she could see was the extra nickel or dime. Friends and I would've bought a lot of food there - and so might have other people who are seeing this review. I hope the ownership will read this review, and realize that she's a poor representative, assuming the ownership has any vision and sense of fairness. Tl;dr very good, a bit pricey. Go for the sushi or the 8$ bites. First of all the ambiance in here is excellent! Dimly lit, brick walls, and ornate decorations speckled throughout! The drinks were very good! We enjoyed the crouching tiger as well as the hidden dragon drinks for two! The hidden dragon had Thai chilis around the rim of the glass which added a unique spice to the drink! The crouching tiger was a bit on the sweeter side but very good! I ordered the drunken noodles which were delicious and very filling; however, for 28$ I expected more. Don't get me wrong it was a very large bowl and I had enough to save for the next day, but I was expecting something spectacular for that price not just a large portion. For the same price I could have gotten three rolls of sushi or a few 8$ eats. The service was excellent, speedy, and personable! They made sure to get our whole table's orders at the same time! We were even treated to a special birthday celebration where three servers came out with lighted signs and a gong for the birthday girl to ring! The banana cheesecake and ice cream that came with the birthday special was immaculate! I'm bananas for bananas in general so I especially loved it! They were steamed, but there should have been a fried offering. Searing these would have brought out some flavor. The overly sweet Asian mustard it came with didn't help. The pork dumplings are also rather bland. This appetizer is accompanied by a side of plain soy sauce. Not sure what the thinking is there. We decided to split the beef and broccoli, which came with plain white rice. While the beef is tender and the vegetables cooked to my liking (very firm), it couldn't have been more sodium laden...almost to the point of being inedible. When we checked into the hotel at the Fox Tower, it was advertised that Thursdays is create your own ramen bowl for $16. When we got there we were told they no longer offer that. Our waitress did say she would check with the chef. When she came back she said they can't make it because they don't have the broth. It's very misleading to advertise the special in the lobby and when you get there they don't have what you came in for. Since you're already there and you're hungry you're going to have to settle for something else. For an appetizer, we got the pot stickers and spicy salmon bites. Both were delicious. I loved the spicy salmon bites. Delicious flavor throughout. For my entree I ordered general tsos chicken. Pretty sure I was served sesame chicken as it had sesame seeds on it and it was sweet. General tsos is spicy and doesn't have sesame seeds. My boyfriend settled with steak and fries as he was unable to get the ramen special offered. He did enjoy it, however he said it was overly salty. Started with the extremely yummy fried dumplings Lychee martini to wash it down. The music is always on point a bit loud but the night club is right before the restaurant. Sadly I wish the service was better. Our waitress took our order and never came back til she brought us the check. Her food runner was on point Everything we ordered was out in record time. Thank goodness for the food runner honestly wish we could have only tipped her. It was my birthday too so you'd think the waitress would come check if I want more drinks or even ask if we want dessert. It wasn't even busy for a Friday so that's not an excuse for bad service.
