Plenty TV's for gameday variety and a happy excited energy flowing through the place. We were seated right away and our waitress quickly brought our drinks and took our order. We got a Cowboy, a Chili the Kid, the three sliders, a kids chicken tenders, and some cheese fries. The Dogs and the sliders were all delicious. The tenders were a bit bland but they had a nice hint of heat and the breading was nice and crunchy. We wish they had a regular ranch instead of the miso ranch as an option. The cheese fries came out cold and it looked like they just put a Kraft Single on top and stuck it in the microwave. They were a bit underwhelming. Over all the prices felt a bit high... $11 for a hotdog seems steep and I felt like I could eat 2 of them.

Overall it seemed like a location that would be bumping in conjunction with Baylor college nights, post church service, or otherwise Waco-oriented affairs. My only complaint was really the smell. We came near close when some workers were cleaning, however there was an apparent chemical stench within the patio, between the inside seating and outdoor seating. My partner ordered the sausage po boy, while I ordered the fried chicken plate, wish mashed potatoes & gravy + green beans. The wait was rather long, which can be attributed towards the chicken's cook time - which might be front scratch. After we got our plates, I certainly couldn't complain. The chicken was decently sized and decadent with flavor. Consistent, strong Cajun spicing littered the tray and chicken, while its interior was extremely juicy and filled with flavor; additionally, it still maintained structure and provided a nice crunch on the surface. The mashed potatoes were equally as enjoyable. The gravy complemented the potatoes well, and established an equilibrium through texture. The green beans however, were not my favorite. They initially appeared fine on the surface, but became watered down and lacking in flavor the farther down the bowl you went. I would not be surprised if these beans were canned. I would certainly find myself eating here again. Its biggest appeals are the prices, genuine quality of food, and disposition. It is not perfect, but it is more than satisfactory. If you cannot get over the minor inconveniences that you may run into here, then you probably shouldn't be eating Cajun anyways.

I reviewed BBD a year ago for the first time after their initial opening and gave them high marks. Like so many places, though, BBD has not maintained the quality of their grand opening. My wife's broccoli and cheese soup was obviously a mix with very little broccoli, very little cheese, and bland. The tomatoes on my house salad were bad probably old. The corn muffins we received were cold and dense and probably straight from the cooler. Our waitress brought our food then didn't come back until we flagged her down to get our check. She was covering about 5 tables and spent most of her time in the kitchen. A runner brought our food out. It seems that Black Bear is going through that inevitable drop in quality that comes with an inability to sustain continuity in their kitchen and wait staff. Hopefully they will work through this problem and return to the quality we are have come to expect over the last year.
