Great value for a resort in such an incredible location with fabulous hikes but it needs some improvements especially the food

For the price of my adventure retreat I expected a better experience at this Resort. The location is perfect because of the hikes, the food is well prepared and the staff appear to be hard working. However the most disappointing part of this resort is the atmosphere. This place is not very welcoming to first time guests. I can't pinpoint if it is management or patrons or both. I had to request a room change because the room they initially placed me in was near a stairwell. There was constant noise from footsteps which made it difficult to relax. After complaining to management, they reluctantly changed my room. The next fiasco occurred when my spa treatment mysteriously disappeared from the schedule. Personally, I think they gave my appointment to another patron. The next issue was the insistence on dinner reservations. I tend to eat early (between 4:30-5:15) daily and yet a few times I was offered reservations at 7:45pm. That's too late to eat. I will say that I am grateful to the shuttle drivers and the hiking leads and restaurant wait staff. Unfortunately, for the price, I will not return. read more

Best vacation I've ever had (and I've been all over the world). I went to the Red Mountain Spa to check it out (I've never been on a 'fitness' type vacation before), and left feeling uplifted, refreshed and "healed". This is one of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen, and you can "feel" the natural energy the minute you step on property. Spa = 4.5 stars. Food = 4 stars. Room = 3 stars. Activities = 4 stars. Service = 3 stars. Lots of structured activities (hikes, fitness classes, spiritual programs, cooking), and plenty of things to do on your own if you don't want to be on a schedule. The food is plentiful and delicious. Cafe hours were a little too short for my taste; but we made it work. We had a couple of seriously grumpy encounters from front desk staff and the maids. How one could be grumpy in such a beautiful place is beyond me! The staff in the cafe & spa were consistently wonderful. Highlights for me were the meditation hike, pound puppy hike, desert rain massage and anything with Bud Howard. I cannot wait to go back! read more

Came to stay for 2 days. Sept 8 -10. This place has gone down hill. They care more about making money than their guests. l am a light sleeper. I asked for a quiet room. I was staying in their villas. They put me in a villa right by the road next to the parking lot. I heard the road all night These are very expensive rooms. did I mention how dark and outdated these rooms are. I talked to room management upon checkout who claimed the rooms are quiet. He was actually arguing with me. Also he lies and says he put me here to put me away from construction. i came Saturday and Sunday night there was no construction on the weekend. He continued to tell me he could not accommodate every guest . really the place looked basically empty. And the villas go for $920 a night are they kidding?The beginning of Sept is their slow time because it is so hot. They obviously care nothing about their guests. This is not a spa it is an over priced resort with a spa on premises. Also to add insult to injuiry I ask for late checkout and they gave me a hard time even though the place looked empty. The food used to be of highest quality Now a lot of their meats and none of the eggs are free range or organic. The food is not healthy. The desserts are made with gluten and sugar. So if you are looking for a fat farm( a place that will make you fat) this is the place to go. For this amount of money you think they could spring for organic and or free range eggs. And what a hassle they get annoyed with you when you ask.. The grounds are not kept up. The hot tub did not work for most of our stay. They are supposed to check you in and explain the premises.. I went to a class and left my fiance for orientation they handed him a map and left him with the luggage. He was unclear where to go and pulled his back out carrying luggage over rocks You are supposed to get a backpack with water bottles upon arrival we had to ask for them. If you are lonely and have no where else to go.. I would recommend. One positive note is their spa. The treatments were great. I would recommend staying somewhere else and getting treatments here. Very disappointing. Do yourself a favor drive an hour to Zion and stay in the Marriot. They know how to treat people.. Again the spa and resort are 2 different entities.. even though they are called red mountain resort and spa. Very misleading read more

The entire staff were all very nice. The grounds at Red Mountain are well kept. If you go in one of the entrances plan on having a hard time finding the spa. We drove around and around. There were 2 things I found a bit odd for a spa that is nationally recognized. First of all the spiral staircase. I didn't have a problem using it except I was a bit tall for it but I can imagine a lot of customers, especially some that may be older or have a harder time walking would have a hard time navigating that tiny stairway. The other is that we were surprised that was only 1 toilet in the women's restroom at the spa. Where there are no private areas to get dressed in it seemed like some ladies would take their clothes into the 1 restroom which made the wait even longer. We enjoyed our massages and our pedicures. I just had the Diva For a Day package and it was totally fantastic! My favorite part was the facial. You can't beat the incredible views from the relaxation room. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and so healthy. I didn't want to leave! read more

I requested an upper room based on people's complaints about hearing the noise of people stomping around up above. I didn't get an upstairs room but it was good because I liked not having to haul all our bags upstairs and we were able to walk right out to the pool from our room in the Quail building. I did hear people walking upstairs but it was a distant thud thud noise. Unless, we didn't have anyone above us and it was up and over that I was hearing but I don't think so. I was able to tune out the sound and it didn't wake us at all. Really enjoyed our stay. Very nice walking trail, canyon breeze had good food and was reasonably priced, and I enjoyed a enjoyed a very nice reflexology from Michael. Didn't try restaurant or any of the classes/adventures offered. read more

I read a lot of great reviews on this place and have to say they don't meet what I read. I booked villa King room. So when we arrived not only did the other front staff snap at my girl checking me in, she just made a wrong impression to me. We were then taken to the wrong room twice. But the rooms had seen better days. I would definitely pay for the upgraded room! Deluxe rooms #Neednewpaint and deep cleaning. Spa had outdated and rundown decor. The spa geosphere shaped building made the rooms so small the massage therapist couldn't even go around the table. There were other people out side the door laughing chatting away. Made it very hard to relax and enjoy. The locker room was dirty and had no toilet paper. John was very nice staff member who helped us move to all the rooms and very pleasant to interact with. The Villa King Pool and hotub were great. Both well kept and clean. read more

I can't believe how dirty this place is. I spent all this money and the room and especially the spa was so dirty. I was on a spa table and looked up the dust was awful. I complained and spoke to housekeeping. And the supervisor Ms sergeant (?) spoke with me. She made excuses and treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, I must say racing over here from a day at Zion only to find out they cancelled our Spa treatments without notice or explanation was horrendous. Heck I even have email confirmations. Beautiful place. Went there for a massage. The masseuse was excellent. However I will never return. This facility is not ADA compliant. I am 75 with hip issues and use a cane. The treatment rooms are on another level, accessible only by an extremely narrow steep spiral staircase. Difficult for a normal person to navigate. Had to take me to second level via a five minute circuitous outside route on a golf cart because there is no elevator! This cuts into the massage time you are paying for!! They don't inform you of this before booking. If you are in any way disabled, think twice before going there. I was told that the employees have been begging management for years for an elevator but nothing has been done. If the guy who drives the golf cart isn't there, you have a long outside walk ahead of you to get to second and third levels because you can't get down that horrible staircase!! My friend and I spend four days here for a girls trip last week. We enjoyed our spa treatments and the restaurant, loved that they offered gluten free bread. We did the Narrows hike with Eduardo and unfortunately did not have a great experience. We felt like he rushed us the whole time and we didn't have time to look up and enjoy the whole Narrows experience. As a result of us being rushed I fell and hit my head on a rock and bruised both of my knees. I think if we would not have been rushed this accident would not have happened. For the price they charge for this excursion they should let you enjoy it to the fullest. When I asked about adjusting the tip at the front desk they said I couldn't change it, so they can do whatever they want and still get a tip. We heard this tour guide did not get good reviews from other guest, wish we would have known that before we did this excursion. read more

This place is wonderful! The staff is helpful and pleasant. The grounds are picturesque. The classes and adventures were run by knowledgable and well spoken instructors. The food was amazing!!! I loved that everyone walked around in workout/hiking clothing all day. It was so low key. If you want to get dressed for dinner or not, it's up to you. There's always something to keep you busy or if you are like my husband and want to power down, he found a hammock and relaxed one afternoon. I did a gentle stress class and Aqua class, sunset horseback ride solo and with hubby we did a challenge hike, a hike into Zion and kayaking. It's a little pricey but was worth it! We loved our stay here. Since it was our anniversary, they gave us a nice picture frame as a gift. Fun relaxing and active!!!! read more

My friend and I had the most wonderful time! This is an amazing place for singles, friends or couples to visit. The ambiance is calm, quiet, welcoming and serene. I was completely at ease. The beds were very comfortable (way better than a hotel), the food was amazing (I am very picky and was pleasantly surprised how versatile it was), the guides were friendly, accommodating and went our pace (we went hiking and biking). The afternoon classes were great fun and the staff was always accepting of each person's ability level. We had the most amazing massages, enjoyed the sunrise and sunsets, marveled at the views, and laid in the hammocks for a few hours a day. I plan on taking my husband next time as I know he will love it. read more

I just returned from my milestone birthday celebration and even though it's still a great retreat for doing all or doing nothing, I have to remove one star. They currently offer alot of yoga, stretching and pilates classes, and eliminated alot of cardio classes which I miss. Also the pedicures are just ok now that Terry has retired. The food was ok... I've had better at Red Mountain and worse. There always seems to be a new head chef when I return so keeping it healthy and good tasting is always a challenge. Bottom line is it's still one of my favorite destinations, scenery was beautiful as always and even with all the changes, I still heart Red Mountain.... change is good, change is good... read more

My husband and I spent 4 nights and 3 days there. We really enjoyed the Resort and the Spa. The spa was a bit pricey but we found great value in the trip. The hikes were great. Had a great guide through the petrified sand dunes. The accomodations were nice, loved the jacuzzi tub. The food was great. We were surprised but were not quite ready to leave. We found there still things we wanted to do that we didn't have an opportunity to do. Hopefully we will get back there again. read more

Second visit to the resort. I came 5 years ago with my husband but flew solo this time. The staff is so helpful. Called the spa upon arriving and learned that they are open until 10:00pm! I scheduled a facial for 8pm and a massage for 9pm. My services were on pointe and the providers were so nice. Before dinner, I enjoyed the indoor pool and reading on the outdoor patio area. The second day, I had a root to tip treatment in the spa - my hair feels amazing and my provider was so sweet and funny. I also went to the TRX boot camp class, which was fun and tough. Later in the afternoon I took the Chakra and Gratitude Journal walk where I learned some tai chi from Dave, who dropped me off with Barbara, who helped me with a guided meditation. After dinner I took Barbara's crystals and manifestation class. Yeah, I did all that in 1 day! By the way, the BBQ pork dinner was fantastic! Something in the flavor of the sauce brought the flavor of the pineapple to a whole new level! I am blissful and feeling completely refreshed. The staff helped me get back to the shuttle in town and I am headed home relaxed and refreshed. read more

Magical views ... yet terrible service, mediocre food, unfriendly staff. Unfortunatley we didnt notice and paid close 700.00 per night and couldnt even get late check out. The staff was rude and acted like they did not even enoy their job. Our hotel room was out-dated and had hair and blood in the bath tub. Bedding was terrible and not clean. I have never experienced this level of poor service from a supposed 5 star resort for relaxation etc. They had no assistance with baggage to the room at 10 pm after a 2 days huge hike and needed assistance. Not going back here and no one has bothered for that price to check in on our experiece after leaving several messages. read more

I love this place, even though love has its ups and downs. The views are stunning and I find it relaxing just being there and sitting around. The deep 8 ft swimming pool is divine and you can look out at the red mountains while you take a dip. Seriously - it's like a painting only the light changes it all from one hour to the next so every time you look is different. You can choose to have everything included or pay as you go. The beds are comfy! I've had great stays and not great stays. I've heard they are remodeling some of the units. I love the color scheme they have now, so I'm kind of sad to hear it. Some of the units are nicer than others in terms of the arrangement (great views vs stuck behind the staircase). Wish the architects had thought about this more before executing. I love staying in Dragonfly solo, but did not enjoy Rabbit because the tub was recessed in the bathroom and made me feel claustrophobic and it felt like the toilet was in the bedroom. They also put me right by a fountain that was really loud. SThe beds are a little high if you're short like me. The architecture is all over the place which I think they might as well embrace since they developed at different times. It makes me sad to see the old domes I once stayed in falling into disrepair and being used for castoff storage. With a little refresh, travelers might even still enjoy staying in them as a novelty (I know I would!) It needs a refresh on the paint and concrete stain throughout the place. I'm sure it's been 18 years since they've painted some things. But yeah, some of their louvered blinds are starting to show signs of wear and it's time. There was a power outage, and I pretty much loved that because it was so quiet! The more I cook, the more I recognize when food is done right. Sometimes they knock it out of the park - I recommend the venison. But, sometimes I find that the fish is a little over done. It should be just enough to flake. Their best breakfast is the huevos rancheros which is made to order, and they will slice jalapenos if you ask. The buffet can be hit and miss. I feel like the food isn't as hot as I want it to be. On off weeks in summer when there is a smaller crowd, I skip the lunch buffet. And I was weirded out by the fajitas which had clearly been marinated in a sugary sauce. What most people come here for is weight loss, but that's not their sole devoted focus anymore. They consider themselves more of an adventure spa and there are quite a few couples. I met a couple that was honeymooning there and had a goal of going to all the National Parks. If you want a man-friendly place, where you will encounter other couples, this is a good option. If you want to go just for a weekend with your man as a healthy vacay, you can do that. If you really want to have a restrictive bootcamp style experience where you have to go Sunday to Sunday and a very controlled, Spartan environment, I suggest Movara or Wellfit as they completely focus on that experience - but there are trade-offs. You will get fitness assessments, exercise, and informational classes at Red Mtn (just like Movara) but Red Mtn is a more luxurious place, with beautiful views, soft beds and deep bathtubs and excellent services like free airport & in-town courtesy shuttle. You have to remember that when you get home, your choices are your own to make, just as they are on the Red Mtn program. While at Movara for a week, I missed Red Mountain's views and grounds and variety of wonderful classes. So really, there are tradeoffs from one program to another. Right now, the really big thing at Red Mtn is teaching you how to do Melt with foam rollers. I loved the Barre class and yoga on the Fitball. Movara didn't have any of that. As I am a bit limited, I do the a la carte program where you pay for things as you go rather than a package deal. Actually, if you really want to take it home with you, I would suggest Weight Watchers which has a wonderful app for those who can't stand meetings. I've talked to several people who say they have a "hard time bringing it home" and that's my advice. read more

We went there for lunch because our wine-snob friends took us there. First, I wanted to run away when I saw that most of the patrons were wearing bathrobes. Okay, that's a little strange. Then, as we're going through the line, they have little cups of food on the buffet line telling you how many calories are in that little cup. Weird. I really don't give a s**t how many calories are in something. I'm not fat. So when I saw that, it kind of ruined the experience--well, that & the stupid bathrobes. Oh, & we ordered wine & that was really expensive-- like we were being punished for not wearing bathrobes & we were ordering wine. The wine was fine. The food was crap & expensive. read more

It was exactly what i was looking for. Rooms were small but nice although we would have liked a patio, would have liked more cardio and strength exercise classes. But I'm DEFINITELY going back and would recommend to anyone who wants to get fit, not wear make up for days at a time, and wear their flip flops and yoga pants to dinner. low key and wonderful. Red Mountain Resort is amazing with all the activities offered, there's never a dull moment. And the view is incredible, absolutely awe inspiring. I had the Essential Plus Package which comes with one spa treatment per day. I also engaged in activities on and off property. Everyone was really nice, the instructors and tour guides were great, and Matthew at the front desk - very cute and helpful. I had a great time and will visit again. Maybe they offered this and I didn't notice (too busy with other activities) but it would have been nice to have a couple of art classes - paint and pinot or something or food available later in the evening after their last activity. All in all, no complaints. I can't wait for my next adventure at RMR. read more

When I yelp, I assume every place is going to be 5 stars, and if something goes really wrong, I take off one star at a time. If that were the case, I'd give this place a -15 for a score. To be sure, the location is gorgeous and it's close to Snow Canyon. Many of the staff at the front desk/concierge desk as well as the spa front desk were attentive. But the compliments pretty much end there. The concept of the resort/spa is fantastic, but this place fails to execute on the idea well, mostly from lack of attention to detail, and lack of attentiveness to guests. The hotel room was small, there was NO DOOR on the bathroom, AC/heating unit is so loud, couldn't hear the TV. No fridge in the room. Had to call every day to get housekeeping to come clean, even when we had a "please clean the room" sign on the door. Even if they came, they often didn't pay attention to details (like stocked the coffee but there was no cream or sugar to go w/ it, left dirty water glasses out, etc.) Restaurant food was decent for spa fare, but staff RUSHED us through the meal and out the door, so it wasn't really enjoyable. No hard alcohol served. Wine list is abysmal (they serve Hogue, Beringer, and other cheap wines that cost less than $8/bottle at your local grocery store.) Had a massage at the spa, asked the therapist to be gentle on an area of my body where I'd had extensive surgery. Instead, she got more aggressive, wrenched my back and shoulder, and I left the spa in tears b/c I was in so much pain. Asked to rent bikes from the front desk, the woman (don't know her name but she has wide hips and thin, long-ish gray hair) looked at us, then turned around and went into the back office. We waited for 15 minutes, thinking she was coming back out, but she never came back. Just completely, rudely ignored us.) This place also suffers from lack of signage. No clear indication of where to turn off the main road, or where the hotel rooms/registration office are. Won't stay here again. LOVED IT, and I now have a go-to place if I ever need a quick escape! I have never been more impressed with knowledgeable staff, facilities (super clean), and breath taking views. More importantly, the food was fantastic and not unhealthy. But before I get into that, I thought I would perhaps share the mishap that lead me to a great beginning! I missed my flight into St. George ( closest airport) so to catch the next available flight it would have had to been into Las Vegas. I noticed on the resorts website that there is a shuttle that leaves from Vegas to the resort. SO instead, I decided to rent a car - yes you pay a little more to take the car across 3 states, but I personally enjoyed the drive very much. Smooth ride, only "scary" part to me was driving through the Arizona Gorge - either way I made it out alive :) Back to the resort: My trip time was limited to 3 whole days but I really felt I was able to get as much in as possible and the resort offering all of the adventures made it MUCH easier. Of course you have to pay but your ride and a nice lunch or snack is always provided and you just have to show up. The only thing I would suggest is making sure to check what you should wear/bring. I was there the first week of September and although hot felt like the best time of the year to come. Room: CLEAN! I am the the type that likes to use my clorox wipes on everything and I didn't find any dirt! Except I think some on the remotes... but hey, that's good in my book! I stayed in the dragonfly solo room, it's a smaller room but it was perfect for just me. Flat screen TV and cable, I was a happy gal. Adventures - Arrive early to all, the concierge desk consistently weren't able to tell us how to dress for the activity but the guides will be there early in case you need to run back and change.. Zion Narrows - we had a small group just 4 of us besides the guide. This is a MUST DO. Our guide was Rhonda, she was great and in super shape! To be honest, I was a little nervous about being in water above my knees but it was so clear and clean I didn't mind once I was there. They suggest everyone to wear shorts because they dry fast. Personally, I wore nylon/acrylic pants that dried fast - I liked this option better but the choice is yours. With the fee, you're provided with water shoe rentals (again, I'm a major germaphobe but nothing was stinky or had a I'm-used-equipment smell so I was a happy camper!). I would definitely do this again. TIP buy electrolyte tablets or gatorade, I was severely dehydrated and had a major headache, thought because its strenuous but your body doesn't show it because of the cold water, you don't profusely sweat. But a friend I met on the trip gave me some and it saved my life! Shout out to Jen13Travel which was my neighbor! Kayaking - It was nice, relaxing, a good pick after a day at the narrows Challenge Hike at Snow Canyon (which is the hilly areas right behind the resort (BEAUTIFUL!) - So.... I don't think I'm out of shape, but apparently I am. There are two options for hikes, beginner or "challenge" so I tried for that. It was probably one of the tougher hikes I did but it was seriously worth it! I was the slowest one but dependent on the size of the hiker group they decide how many guides to have so we had 3 and it was nice you can still try to go at your own pace. Tips: - This was my first ever solo trip, and YES I couldn't have chosen a better place. - Remember, time changes by an hour if you drive from Vegas -They give you water bottles to refill. I love that they are so green and ecofriendly I would recommend this place to anyone, and I plan to come :) BTW I didn't do any spa treatments but I heard they were amazing. read more

Second time I stayed at resort, first was ten years ago. Construction zone in my house across the street so needed a place for a few nights. The rooms have been updated since my last visit with lovely tubs, wifi, flat screen TV, and all the amenities you need but so small and cramped with the old fashioned common areas directly outside your front door and windows so everyone can look in unless you close the shutters. Reminded me of the old Holiday Inns from my childhood. My wife went to sleep at 8 pm and I went to the NEW HOLIDAY INN at 9:30 pm which was twice as big, large windows out to the desert and four times less expensive. If you have the money to stay at Red mountain and want quality book the New Section, it will cost you a lot more but the old section is NOT worth it for those who wish privacy and space. read more

The resort was beautiful, but I left an expensive pair of sandals (worth over $100) in the hotel room. It would have been easy to get my contact information and return the sandals after they were found, but no effort was made. I take responsibility for forgetting the shoes but I wish the staff at this resort would have been more honest and conscientious about returning my lost possession. read more

I was drawn to this spa due to its high rating in various publications, and was impressed by what it offered; however, I was sorely disappointed. Should I start with the rude people who work at the resort or the incompetenent people who work at the spa? I think I'll start with the incompetent people who work at the spa. My friend and I booked a stay through Memorial Day weekend, beginning on May 27, and ending on May 30, 2011. About 3 weeks before my stay, I received an email from the spa concierge asking if I wanted to book any treatments for my stay. Interestingly, even though my friend had booked at the same time as me, she never received an email. I booked a massage on Saturday evening with a female therapist and a facial on Sunday evening with a female therapist. When I called my friend to see when she had booked, she said she had never received the email, and asked me to book her treatments for the same time so we could dine together in the evening. I booked both of us at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night, and myself at 6:00 p.m. and my friend at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night (they said they already had too many bookings to accommodate us at the same time). No problem, I'm thinking, we can still have dinner together, and do activities afterwards. When I arrived at the spa on Friday evening, the spa had scheduled me for 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and my friend for 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Needless to say, we had to rush through dinner together at 5:00, and then could not do any activities together that evening due to the mistake on the part of Red Mountain Concierge. To boot, when I arrived at my massage on Saturday, there was a male masseuse waiting for me. I advised that I had booked with a female therapist, and asked what they could do to accommodate me. They advised that they could have me rebook with a female therapist, but as they were already fully booked, I would have to wait until someone canceled, or I could have the massage and take 20% off. Keep in mind that they would only let me cancel if I agreed to pay the full massage cost due to a late cancellation. When I argued that this was the spa concierge's fault, they advised that it was their policy. Apparently, it is a policy to force their guests into submitting to an unfair and unscrupulous policy. I had the massage at 20% off, and was surprised to see that they also automatically tack on the gratuity at 15% (well, thank God it's not 20, right? That would almost add insult to injury). I never approve automatic tipping, as it gives no incentive to the therapist to do a good job. They know their tip is coming, so they just "phone it in" like my therapist did, and the client ends up with a sub-par massage. Interestingly, I wasn't the only one who was unhappy. I heard a guest at the front desk when I checked out say, "This is the worst massage I've ever had, and I'm not paying for it." If that's not testimony to the spa's quality, I don't know what is. Next, let me comment on the rude staff members they have working at the resort. My friend and I scheduled a hike for Sunday morning. There are three levels, the basic, the intermediate and the strenuous. We opted for the intermediate, as we had spent both Thursday and Friday hiking at Zion National Park, and had experienced no problems. We showed up for the hike, and began running down a hillside at the start. When we asked the guide if this was the intermediate, or if we had mistakenly gotten on the "strenuous" hike's bus, she confirmed that it was the intermediate. By the way, never go on a hike with either Tony (churlish, intolerant female guide) or Eduardo (nasty, ill-tempered male guide). Neither of them know how to do their job, and should be terminated immediately. My friend injured her ankle, and asked to go back due to the difficulty of the hike (which was not, truthfully, intermediate, but strenuous). Eduardo rudely told us that we could not go back. When we asked why, he refused to give a reason, and ran up ahead of us, leaving us on the mountain. When we finally reached the others, my friend was crying and out of breath. Tony patronizingly asked her, "You okay, honey?" in that superficial tone one uses when they don't really care, but are just asking because they feel that they are required to do so. As part of the hike, we were supposed to explore a cave, but Tony and Eduardo unilaterally decided that my friend and I would skip the cave. Eduardo rerouted us away from the rest of the group. When I asked why, he refused to give a reason. I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude, and he said, "You wanna complain, lady? Go ahead." Is that the way a 5-star resort speaks to its guests? If that wasn't bad enough, Tony and Eduardo left us at the pick-up site, driving off with the other guests back to the resort. We had to wait for the other hike to take us back. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Don't waste your money. read more

I booked a solo vacation for myself at Red Mountain just to unwind, exercise and enjoy good food. I wasn't disappointed. Loved the beauty of the resort and the facilities, which were clean and spacious. The food was really good (especially dinners) and healthy too. For breakfast and lunch, the buffet provides a lot of variety including vegetarian food and a salad bar. Dinners were from a menu and included the calories and carbs which sometimes helped me in making a decision on what to order. There was always a fresh fish or new entree like a lamb or duck dish on the menu. Wine was available but frankly, it didn't seem like many people indulged while there. The only place to get wine was at dinner and through the restaurant (not available otherwise on premise). Next time, I'll definitely pack a bottle for myself as you can't order wine to take back to your room. The best part of each day: the daily challenge hikes. We saw some amazing views and the hikes were indeed challenging and varied. I hike at home and am used to the hills but this required lots of scrambling, climbing and jumping over rocks. It was great and I returned feeling like a got a great workout .every day I tried almost all of the fitness classes, i.e. tai chi, zumba, yoga, barre, nia, a drums alive class, etc. and enjoyed all of them. The only downside to the experience was the air conditioning in the room, which was required given that it was 110 degrees outside. But it was very loud and made to hard to sleep...I tried changing the temperature to reduce the sound of the fans blowing throughout the night. My room did have a beautiful view of the red mountain and while small, it was enough for just me. Maid service was very good and I typically returned from the hikes before 10 a.m. to find that my room had already been straightened. The pool and hammocks were a nice way to just relax. The pool had several lounge chairs available that you could lay in while in the water and even read even while partially submerged. The water fitness classes were a nice change from the indoor fitness options! I also had a spa treatment every day. The spa was very nice but I wouldn't consider it the main attraction of the resort. I found that there was a nice variety of treatments available though and the practitioners were all professional. It wasn't a "hang out" place though as there was just one waiting area with lounge chairs (but I must add that it had a large look out window that provided an INCREDIBLE view of the mountains). Most of the people I met were women like myself who just needed a get a way. The activities made it very easy to socialize and I left with several new friendships. Red Mountain Review Setting: First week of Jan - weather ranged from high 30s to low 60s. Sunny and crisp! Facilities were pretty empty - didn't have a single class with more than 9 people. I'd say they were about 25% occupied. Special rate @ $175 a night, including all meals. Hikes: Did three morning hikes - two led by Red Mtn staff, one on our own. Great guides: Connie, Kerry, Rhonda. Scenic! Classes: did 3-4 classes a day, from stretching to hydro challenge to conditioning. Instructors were pretty decent/not annoying. Swam on my own a lot too. Massage: that was all I did at the spa - they were having a special and 50 min massages were $79. Hung out in the steam room in the spa for at least 30 min each day. Wifi: working! a little slow in room, but no probs connecting with iPad. Big wifi upgrade was in the works while there - parts of the grounds were dug up to install cables. Food: three solid meals a day, no issues as a pescetarian. Lots of great veggie options with every meal. Salad bar with lunch and dinner. Yummy Tazo teas! Outfitters: store had everything you might need, at not-too-inflated prices. Brands featured were Prana, Mountain Hardware, Moving Comfort, Speedo, Smart Wool...lots of footwear too. Room: perfectly serviceable. Comfy bed - perhaps because by end of day, I was exhausted! Heater was loud but not overwhelming. Toiletries were above average. Tons of space for two people to unpack their stuff. My wishes: that bike rentals were free, and that they had a bathing suit dryer. read more

Bait-and-switch. My husband and I booked a Deluxe room, which looked nothing like the photo from their online website. Our room was so tiny and cramped, and the decor was not as pictured online. No central air; only a wall unit that blasts freezing cold air with no temperature regulation, so you have to manually shut it off and turn it on again. Worst pedicure I've ever had - barely cut the cuticles, didn't evenly file/trim the nails, and the polish was put on sloppily. They automatically bake in a gratuity, so I double-tipped for another service without knowing. read more

After waiting for years to go I was highly disappointed . First the price was ridiculous . Second the food out of the week I stayed here we only ate breakfast and two dinners . Now talk spa ?????? Not even close .no pampering here folks it looks like it desperately needs a overhaul and the pool is not spa quality . Now lets talk rooms of scratchy sheets and low budget amenities . I thoroughly enjoyed my recent 3-day stay at Red Mountain Resort. It turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for: a beautiful, casual, quiet place to decompress and recharge. The place is visually spectacular, with beautifully landscaped grounds and dramatic mountain vistas. Hammocks are scattered invitingly throughout the grounds - a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the view. My Deluxe Double Queen room wasn't anything special - your basic hotel room, really - but it was impeccably clean, with tasteful modern decor and a few nice amenities. The bedding was plush and comfy, the toiletries a bit nicer than usual. I especially appreciated the full size hair dryer. And while it was a bit precarious getting in and out of the ultra deep tub, it sure was fantastic to soak in! RMR's Sagestone Spa was top notch. I had three wonderful massages during my stay, with three different massage therapists. Jennifer was the best, but none were afraid to use force when necessary. I spent a lot of time in the spa's relaxation room, as well, on plushly cushioned lounge chairs. The atmosphere there was perfect for reading, dozing, or simply gazing out at the mountains in the distance. There was plenty at RMR to keep me active, as well. The hiking was incredible, truly the highlight of my trip. The entrance to Snow Canyon State Park is a mere 5 minute walk from the Resort, which is great if you want to do some solo hiking and don't have a car. The guided morning hikes were fantastic, too. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive; they encouraged me to push my limits and overcome some deep rooted fears, turning a morning hike into a truly unforgettable experience. My favorite hike of all, though, was the Native American Rock Art Walk with the super charismatic and extremely likeable Boma Johnson. I learned so much during my four hours with Boma. The ancient petroglyphs we studied were amazing, and Boma provided such detailed and insightful explanations. This was the one "extra expense" I allowed myself while at RMR, and boy am I glad I did so. I highly recommend this! I wish I'd been able to take advantage of some of the other activities offered at RMR as well - the meditation workshop and Life Path Reading were calling to me - but I just didn't have enough time (or cash). I fully intend to partake of these when I return. The one thing that did not wow me at RMR was the food - dinners, in particular. Breakfasts and lunches were served buffet-style, and were actually quite good. These meals offered lots of tasty options for the vegetarian, and a nice variety of food in general. Coffee was good, too! But the dinners were seriously lacking. The dinner menu was unchanging, and there are only two vegetarian entree options on there. One of them - the Stuffed Poblano - sounded fantastic, but fell way, way short of that. The other veggie entree - a Roasted Vegetable Napolean - was much better, but still not spectacular. One night there wasn't even a vegetarian special offered. If you stay here for a week and only have two options to choose from...? Well, it could get a bit tedious. They need to rework the Poblano recipe, and add more vegetarian options to the menu (or at least some entrees that could be made vegetarian upon request - say, a pasta dish where you can add grilled chicken or shrimp as an option). Another thing the restaurant must do is train their servers and kitchen staff on how to time service. They were literally bringing our entrees out just as we returned from the soup and salad buffet. Finally, after two nights of eating cold entrees, I asked the server to hold off on putting in my order. That did the trick. But you shouldn't have to ask for this. Food is hugely important, and normally a series of ho-hum dinners would greatly affect my rating. However, everything else at RMR more than made up for it. Every staff member I encountered was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The location is breathtaking, and there is so much to do... or not do, if you're so inclined. Great active getaway! The draw of this place is it's organized hikes, fitness activities, and classes. There are plenty of ways to relax here also: pool, hot tub, hammock, spa treatments, meditation, etc. The grounds are beautiful and so is the view! Rooms are clean and comfortable but it's not a fancy luxury resort. It's a down to earth place where most people are dressed in activewear all day. Even dinner is casual attire. Food is good but they encourage healthy eating so don't expect giant steaks or big bowls of pasta. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style so you can eat too much. Socializing is easy because most activities are done in groups so it's great for solo travelers. The staff was helpful, knowledgable, and very friendly. There is not much nightlife here. Alcohol is available but it's not a place to party. All ages, mostly over 40. Mostly women. No young kids. Some activities cost extra so it can get expensive if you're not careful. I had an amazing time and I plan on returning as soon as I can. read more
