The wait staff seemed to be nice, but we didn't see our waitress smile once (didn't seem like she was too happy to be there). This place is very nice inside. I had over easy eggs with hash Browns and toast. They were pretty good, just like any other coney island. My husband had the nachos... Last Sunday,we were looking for a place to have Sunday dinner. We went to one place and the menu looked terrible. We decided to go down 9 mile and spotted Red Olive.This place was so clean,wait staff was wonderful and the food was so good. I had the Greek Pasta and it was to die for. Really loved everything about my first visit to this place. Everything my family of five ordered was fresh and delicious. The server and hostess were polite and attentive- We ordered a lot of food and it all came out hot and fresh and the price was not bad at all for my whole family to have a very filling meal. We had good soup and salads, the veggies were vibrant which is a big thing for us- no one likes a run-down looking tomato- and I'd say the tables, floor and booths, glassware and plates and silverware were clean. They serve fine food...just as you would expect. The service is just the strangest I have ever experienced. There is one woman that works there who is the sweetest and is a great server. Everyone else seems too young to work there. One time I came in alone and 3 different servers came up to me and asked if I was taken care of, and if it was just me. There doesn't seem to be any communication between the staff and the restaurant is never busy enough for them to have an excuse for that. I'm trying to be understanding because I have worked in the food service industry, but they have no sense of what is annoying to a customer. They pop up every two seconds to ask a different question or ask if everything is okay. The tables, menus, and floors are also never clean. I just came here for cheap breakfast and convenience but it's pushed me away for good I think. I'll go to a Coney island in the future. read more

I had high hopes for this place, especially for breakfast items because I love breakfast any time of the day. However, I was a bit disappointed in their hashbrowns. Sometimes they aren't really browned at all! I asked for my hashbrowns well done and got warmed potatoes. However, I had gotten hashbrowns a few days before then and asked for them well done and they were crispy. So it seems that there may just be some inconsistencies between cooks and how they deem hashbrowns "well done." The spinach and feta omelette is really good, as are the greek salads, and other items like grilled cheese and fries. The spinach pie was ok, but not as great as the spinach pie from other area restaurants. The wait staff are friendly and VERY attentive. Everyone I have encountered is very nice. Hoping they improve their hashbrowns and spinach pie!!!! I like having a quick, coney island-ish restaurant so close to home and do plan on eating here again. read more

I'm a big proponent of restaurants doing a few things really well than a lot of things with mediocrity. I wanted to try this place because it gets a lot of business. The menu is massive, but I tried the strawberry crepes. The crepes were thick, rubbery and overcooked. They should have been light and airy with a golden color. If they are going serve them they need to know it isn't a dish that can be left unattended to cook and then burn. I realize I tried something that requires a lot of skill. Have to say I was excited to have this nearby so I ordered some to go food. Sad to say I was disappointed. My order was completely wrong. I ordered lemon rice soup, got chicken noodle. No bread when I specifically asked if I needed to order it on the side. The pastitsio and moussaka were lacking filling and the gyro slices were dry. On the plus side, the spinach pie was flavorful and moist. I'll give them another go but for now, they're getting a generous 3. read more

On September 3,2017 I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Red Olive Ferndale. MI. OMG the service was terrible. There was about 10 of us and the waiter acted as though he needed a few more hours of sleep.He confused the orders, brought out water in a broken glass,he offered no apology, I was giving my order and in the midst of ordering with my menu open he turned completely away from me. Read N.L. review for more details. All are true. The most disappointing dialog came from the manager Tony. he could have cared less. Instead he made reference to us being Americans and he was not. He did apologize after 15 mins of telling us he came to America to pursue a better life and the waiter was the best he has. We were not impressed and a little confused what his coming to America had anything to do with the rude and unprofessional behavior of his wait staff? Rating -0 Avoid at all cost. I was extremely disappointed with our latest visit today. We first visited this restaurant shortly after they opened and thought it was very good. But things have certainly changed over time. The quality and preparation of the food, the responsiveness, kitchen coordination and timing of getting everything to the table was horrible. My chicken kabob dinner had extremely overcooked chicken with a very undercooked baked potato and a tiny serving of canned corn in a very small side dish. Don't believe the pictures you see on the menu - judging by many items at our table. Others in our party had very similar experiences with their dishes, service and timing. And by timing, I'm not just referring to getting everyone served at once, but also to simply getting all of your individual meal together in a reasonable fashion. Needless to say, we will never be returning to this particular Red Olive again. read more

I love this place. Kid friendly for sure. It's just perfect for an everyday run - when you're too rushed to get food on the table for your family, carry-out here is quick and fast and the variety can't be beat. I have 4 children and they can easily choose hamburgers, chicken, pasta... and even breakfast for dinner. The chocolate chip pancakes are wonderful. The chicken tenders are very tasty. Cheeseburgers make the kids happy. Fries are super crisp and hot - which is my favorite - so many restaurants can't seem to get fries right (like National Coney or Leos). The choice of salads is quite impressive, many of which are more gourmet with avocado which I love. And they have fish and steak for the adults. Of course they have gyros and coneys... and shwarama and shrimp. This place is definitely a step above your average family diner. The wait staff are friendly and efficient - my family is so happy this restaurant is in town! read more

This is an update from my previous review of the Red Olive Restaurant, and though I was tempted to change my 4 star rating, I'll let it stand as is. I've been there a few more times, and have had both pleasant and unpleasant experiences there. I had the aforementioned breakfast as a dine in customer, and this time received my pancakes as ordered. It was a good meal, the service was great, and my coffee was refilled as needed. I've also tried several of their dinner entrees. The meat grape leaves with tzatziki are a tasty treat well worth having. The Spanakopita (Spinach Pie), served with rice pilaf topped with tomato sauce and your choice of soup; I've had both the Egg Lemon and Rice soup as well as the Rosa Marina soup, is an awesome dinner. However, I've also had the Greek Combo dinner, a reported specialty, was somewhat of a disappointment; this was also a take out order. It has both Pastitsio (a Greek lasagna), moussaka (baked eggplant), and gyro slices, served with rice pilaf and soup. The gyro slices were very tasty, as they provided soft pita chips and tzatziki along with it; but the pastitsio and moussaka, being so similar in texture and taste, was just okay. It was hard to determine where one began and the other left off. As I never had either before, I don't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing, but I do know I'll never order it again, as the portions were small to begin with. Breakfast is well worth getting here, as the service is great, if you are going to dine in. Dinner is kind of hit or miss, depending on what you like. The soups are great, and the spanakopita is some of the best I've ever had. When you don't feel like cooking breakfast, and have the time to dine in, this place is well worth coming to; I'll reserve my judgement on dining in for dinner, but I'm sure that may be a pleasant experience as well. read more
