Took a quick trip to Red Onion as I was having a hankering for some pastrami. Ordered their pastrami Sandwich and my go to pineapple fruit mix. The fruit mix, excellent as always. Creamy and cold soft serve with plenty of pineapple mixed in. The sandwich is delicious but unfortunately the pastrami was cooked as if it was bacon. Cooked until crisp which sometimes dries it out. Pastrami should be soft, tender, and moist. Luckily it had plenty of mustard and pickles to compensate. It definitely killed my pastrami craving. All in all, a decent sandwich. read more

I passed on the local burger joints simply because In N Out is out! I decided to try a local establishment hoping to find the next great burger. This place prides itself on making fresh homemade burgers and about a million other things. They might add car wash soon! This should have been a red flag, a yellow card and a penalty box time out! Instead I went for the double burger with extra onions and a side of onion rings. I have to admit they did have me at fresh! Instead of burger bliss I was struck with burger bad! There was absolutely no flavor in any of the burger or at least the part I ate. It was a double dose of cardboard with a sharp taste of onions. The onion rings were equally sad and tasteless. Do yourself a favor and just keep driving to a pizza joint or a Panaderia, at least you won't through away most of it, along with your hard earned cash. The food is decent, but with some of the prices of said food, mind as well go to a McDonald's or something. Which can get you more food then coming here. I spent $20 for two things, and coming here you need to have patient. I don't mind waiting, but it can take up to at least 15-20 minutes. So we decided to come check out Red Onion , instead of Mcdonnies. We got some cheeseburger meals and was hoping for a delicious experience on homemade burgers and it was a let down. First off the patties where so thin and smelled like the meat is past due on the freshness you know like a dead animal smell YUCK and burnt no flavor on the first bite I had to throw it away because I could not take my chances of getting sick from the meat smell and getting food poisoning. My husband went on 2/7/2026 at about 7 PM to get him and I a burger, we'd had it before and they were good. But this time to say I was disappointed is an understatement!! The buns were burnT and dry, they tasted like charcoal and the meat had NO taste! We stopped at Red Onion Hamburger on Main Street in Porterville right around 3pm on a Sunday. This restaurant usually offers drive through and a small area to eat on site but due to COVID they are not allowing patrons to eat on site at this time. We've heard REALLY good things about this place and they even have a sign that says they were voted number one for burgers (I'm paraphrasing because I didn't take a picture of the sign). We stared at the menu for a few minutes and I was impressed by their very large selection of food. Their menu is the typical fried food stand you find in most towns across the United States and if you can fry it, they probably have it. Their soda selection for fountain drinks was very thrifty starting at 99 cents and they had a large selection of deserts. I ordered a number 5, Double Bacon Burger and my wife ordered a Number 8, Avacado Burger. I asked for the meat to be well done on my Double Bacon Burger and well done it was. The bacon was nearly hard enough to chip a tooth. All of the ingredients were clearly fresh and I thought the burger was okay, but it didn't stand out in any way compared to other places in town. The meat in the burger was bland and without flavor and did not impress me. My wife Laura wasn't impressed with her Avacado Burger either. Hers was also well done and she didn't ask for that and she didnt even finish her fries. They were over salted (smothered) and soggy. She voiced her disappointment to me. I did notice that the large fries were about double the size of medium fries and I gobbled my fries up with no complaints. We paid extra for three ranch dressing dipping sauces and were charged for three but were only provided with two, which was a bummer. I checked the bag but it was so full with food I saw two and figured the third was hiding somewhere, but it wasn't. The sodas were good, but my wife commented on how her medium looked small and my large fountain drink looked like it was an extra large. I typically do not drink soda so was not able to finish mine. The cashier was nice but the wait time was pretty long. We had two cars in front of us and waited 15 to 20 minutes to receive our food. I'm willing to give this place another shot, but it will take some convincing to get Laura to try it again. I think next time I will try a desert and most likely fried chicken and fries, because you typically can't go wrong with fried chicken...but I feel that I shouldn't have to order chicken to be impressed at a burger place that claims to be the best. read more

I decided to eat here because I always heard that this place is good, but the people that told me so are dead wrong. First and foremost, it took nearly 30 minutes to get my food. I would have been cool with that if the food was decent, but it wasn't. The Burger was very dry, had no juices that any real burger should have. The fries were way overcooked. Instead of being a nice golden or lightish golden brown color, it barely had any yellowness to it, it was brown. These fries were terrible and stale, no amount of ketchup would have saved them. Lastly, the drink I ordered, a lemonade, was so watered down that I may have well asked for a water. As someone who loves to get burgers, I reccomend you avoid this place. read more

Called an order into the Porterville location for 6 hot wings and onion rings. They asked if I wanted barbecue sauce or Ranch I selected barbecue sauce. When I got there the girl told me everything was in the bag got back to the hotel and found that apparently they can't count to 6 because there were only five wings pieces of wings and no sauce whatsoever so I had to eat them dry they were already burnt and it was not tasty please be careful with this place apparently they don't have it together and can't get a simple order cooked and delivered correctly read more

First time here. Got the Super Burger Combo. My burger was really good had great flavor with red onion. I would totally come back here. The fries are "crinkle cut" - a definite plus in my book. Mid-priced for the quality you get (my combo was like $7). But hey, at least I didn't have to make in the scoring heat. The menu is pretty big, has like 20 different combos. Thry have burgers, chicken, fish, phillys, corn dogs, hot dogs, salad, and ice cream. Drive thru takes a bit if time, but it's worth it. With not a lot of choices of quick bites in Porterville, this is one place I recommend anyone to look for if you're not from the area. I pulled up just as the sign turned off. I figured like every other joint they would say "Sorry, we're closed" and be their merry way. Wrong!! The girl on the intercom took my order and I pulled up before anyone else would think they were still open. I apologized to the girl saying that I didn't mean to put them back to work. She said it was ok and said it was no problem at all. That's good customer service. I got their #1 with cheese and got my pops a ice cream. We were both satisfied with our items and decided to make it our stop on our way out of Porterville back to San Diego. This place gives In-N-Out a run for its money. ...I was expecting this place to be one of the better burger place in town at least better than super burger but I was kind of disappointed...I guess you can't get everything...anyway the place is really small not much parking...the sitting place is outside and there isn't a lot of tables...so when it rains you will get wet so watch out...the menu is pretty much the same as super burger, but they have banana splits...speaking of banana splits they are not that great...I ordered my Ortega burger first then ordered a banana split...they took a long time to get my order done so they gave my banana split before...by the time I got my banana majority of it was melted and it did not taste amazing...they must have let it sit out for a while before they gave it to me which made no sense to me...by the time I got my burger my banana was gone...I did enjoy my burger tho, but I didn't find anything different about it compare it to the super burger Ortega...so if your craving a burger and you live closer to this place then you don't have to drive to super burger to get what you want...it is not a fancy place, but it is better than McDonald and your supporting a town restaurant... so come by if you want and check it out....I'm sure you will agree with me....
