This review is of the Red Osier food truck. Recently had the pleasure of obtaining, and subsequently devouring, a beef on Weck with cheddar. WOW. What a phenomenal sandwich! Always been a huge fan of Red Osier roast beef from the local deli, as well as jars of the au jus, and this sandwich kept up the great flavor experience! The service was good but the table didn't have forks to eat with. However, the prime rib left a lot to be desired. It was terrible. I ordered medium not raw in the middle specifically and got raw meat. I sent it back and got an overdone much smaller piece which I wouldn't take home to my dog. My Boyfriend took me here for dinner last night for my Birthday & it was my first (& definitely not the last) time Covid & Brandon literally killed most of the family owned restaurant businesses in & around the Rochester area except The Red Osier. I was pleasantly surprised that they were even open on a Sunday night which was very nice because they weren't overly busy and no screaming kids running amok. You might see some bad reviews but that's because a lot of people don't know that great food & service do come with a price which is well deserved here at the Red Osier. After many years working in the restaurant industry I do know that quality food does come with a price & especially having a good loyal staff-the 2 come hand in hand in order to run a successful business The bad reviews usually come from people that eat at diners and think that is what a restaurant 'should be' and that they obviously don't get out much I had the Filet with twin lobster tails (sorry no pics) and they were about & beyond perfection Also the French Onion soup was superb-actually better than my own I now can't wait to come back for their FAMOUS Prime Rib!! We got there at 4:00 PM with reservations for 4 people. We asked, as advertised, for the prime rib and lobster pot special. Our waitress was polite but definitely off her game or was "new", as her service was slow, she never once asked how we were enjoying our meals, never came back for refills on bar/soda drinks either. 3 out of us 4 didn't get the prime rib cooked as we asked for. Yes, it was table side carving BUT attention wasn't on how we wanted it done. The table was extremely small for the bread dish, water glasses, our drinks, sides (potatoes), candle, salt/pepper, and bread basket (delicious!). We had to keep piling our dishes or moving things to make room and still had little room to enjoy anything. While I mentioned that my rib wasn't cooked as I asked, it was acknowledged with a startled look but no offer to exchange it! I really wasn't there for the prime rib as I wanted to make sure I had room for the banana foster dessert and that experience was like a comedy although for the price ($16!) I could have watch it on TV. It was made table side, the girl said it was her first time, the bananas were so ripe I thought they were pre-cooked, the ice cream was running of the sides of the dish, and she mistakenly spilt the rum over her tray so the cloth napkin caught on fire. It was quite the spectacle for us AND our neighbors. We offered our water glasses to extinguish it but she sent another "kid" to the kitchen for water and upon his return her offered her another cloth napkin. My sister pushed the water to her which she finally took and drenched the whole tray. Yes, and she SERVED the final product with us using our cloth napkins to receive the puddle of mess! Horrible experience all around for a DISSAPOINTING and costly dinner out. Unbelievable~ never again and I do plan on sharing this with the owners, if I can catch them there. read more

I'm a little surprised by some of the reviews here. While the sandwich was satisfactory as food, it wasn't anything to write home about. I had the cheddar weck - the cheddar was some sort of squeeze cheese, and the beef had very little flavor. I was expecting more umami for sure. The most prominent flavor was the Carroway seeds on the bun - too much really - It wasn't bad per say, just very middle of the road - forgettable. read more

This is a sketchy business. They don't provide a receipt, they only take an electronic payment with no email receipt. They misrepresented the food. When asked what is in the loaded potato salad, they respond cheddar and bacon, but they deliver plain potato salad, not a speck of bacon or cheddar. We won't be returning. read more

What a great place! I had heard about the garbage plates that started in Rochester and was curious. I saw someone order it and they told me that they love them! So I ordered a cheeseburger garbage plate. First layer is potatoes, then 2 cheeseburger patties topped with sauce with ground beef. Also macaroni salad. Was an experience--lunch and dinner! The Red Osier what is your typical airport food spot to eat with a twist of Rochester. The food was standard honestly nothing to write home about but the service was what made a difference. The airport Restaurants close so early and my friend and I had to get some dinner before flight and they were lucky enough to open up the restaurant for a still although the restaurant should have been closed. They make sure we still had a hot meal to eat before our next flight which is unfortunately delayed. read more

Lived in this area all our lives and the Osier was without question a very special place where you were guaranteed to have a wonderful meal and quality service . We have since relocated but returned back in the area for a visit. Unfortunately we did not have the expected experience tonight . Waitress unorganized , unfamiliar with the menu, and when our meals (broiled fish ) arrived they had a very hard core down the center . Unclear if they were over or under cooked. Either way sub par. When our waitress returned to clear the table we discussed and demonstrated the issue with the fish. She offered another serving or box , but no apology . We did enjoy the salad and potato so all was not lost. Sadly it will be our final visit to The Red Osier . When we dine out the expectation is that the meal will be better than what we can prepare at home. This did not meet our expectations. Sometimes you know when you're going to run into a tricky connection before a late night flight. Sometimes you prepare for said scenario by grabbing a sandwich to-go so you have a reasonable dinner on your late night cross-country flight. This is my story. I was enroute to San Francisco with a layover in Charlotte. I had a gut feeling I'd be running through the airport to catch my connection and didn't want to be caught eating cheese and pretzels for dinner on the plane. Instead, I planned ahead and grabbed a tasty roast beef sandwich from Red Osier. Then, wrapped it up in foil and saved it for later. Stayed surprisingly juicy as the meat is dipped in warm au jus before laying it between a roll. I added some spicy mustard for extra bite. Paired deliciously with the meat. The roll was soft and the sandwich quite filling! I felt like I got a real warm meal, as close as I'd get on this late night flight. Thank goodness for good instincts. Next time you're in a pickle like me, grab a sandwich to-go here. You won't be disappointed. read more

Had some food from this kiosk at midtown eats and ordered roast beef tater tots ($5) and it was quite possibly the worst tater tots I've ever had. The tots were soggy and tasted old like it had been fried two days ago, which, either way, is unacceptable. The roast beef itself which they're known for was just "eh". Very little amount and super salty but not tender or anything really great. I'm a foodie and I hate wasting food but I couldn't even eat more than 4 bites of the dish I ordered. Went to the Red Osier New Years Eve. Reservations we're for 7:45. Waited till 9:20 to be seated. Multiple customers a head of us all so waited over 2 hours to be seated. Customers that were coming in after us and the ones before us, were seated before any of us. We inquired about this and the hostess said it wouldn't be much longer. It was definitely over booking and in experienced hostess that people waited over 2 hours. A mother and her 3 children came in before us and got seated at 9pm. Her children were hungry, she went to the hostess and asked if they could get at least rolls to hold them over till they were seated. Surprisingly she did not. I ordered drinks for the 4 of us while we waited in the entry way and the bar tender that was taking money grabbed the fruit for one of the drinks with her dirty fingers. I called to speak to a manager the Monday after and spoke to a woman that stated she was a chef and one of the managers. She had an excuse for the wait and the way people were treated by the hostess. I suggested that the people that waited could of at least been offered free desert, that was ignored. I also was thinking that after I spoke with her that I would get a call from one of the owners regarding my complaint. That also did not happen. On a good note the food was very good and so was the waitress. But we will not be going back to a fine dining place that uses excuses for their mismanagement. read more

Flew out to Florida two weeks ago and had the Beef-on-Weck which was excellent. Only knock on the Red Osier is it's on the other side of TSA Security, so only ticketed passengers can get there. Same situation at Frontier Field, great sandwich, limited access. Red Osier, please find a store front location somewhere. Park Ave., Cornhill, Seabreeze or Charlotte Harbor come to mind. read more

Last nite had an anniversary and bday reservation at red osier, service was terrible and today called and spoke to mgr and he literally hung up on me , I called back and he said" I don't need your business" and hung up on me again. I was so looking forward to my medium king cut prime rib that came out as rare as it could. I'm disgusted been going to this restaurant 30 years, trust me last nite will be last. Don't be fooled. This stand looks like a little nothing kiosk just inside the security checkpoint. One could be forgiven for presuming it sells lousy, overpriced food. Nothing could be farther from the truth. To be fair, the Yelp categorization doesn't help: it lists it as "BBQ and hot dogs." A more accurate description would be that it serves the western New York delicacy on roast beef on weck, a delicious and delightful invention. The quality here is top-notch, and the prices are shockingly fair, especially for an airport. Not only that, but the women who work here are always friendly and helpful. Had a stopover at Rochester Airport on my flight to Washington, DC. Saw this kiosk in terminal B which sold an assortment of roast beef sandwiches. I took my lady here for our 1 year anniversary and we were blown away from the moment we stepped inside. I've never been to a restaurant where I've been treated so well, not only by the staff, but by the owner himself- who not only approached us multiple times but also helped serve our food! The service and the steaks are the best I've had in NYS and coming from someone who has spent the last 5 years in Houston, that's saying a lot. Well I'm not usually a raving fan of airport food, but if you are familiar with the cuisine of Rochester NY you know not to pass up Red Osier. Years ago you had to go to their outstanding restaurant in Stafford NY to get their excellent roast beef, then they expanded to providing roast beef sandwiches at ball games and festivals. Today I walked into the Greater Rochester International Airport and had to stop to check out their stand located just inside security. They serve roast beef sandwiches and the famous Zweigles hot dogs as well as chips, beverages and brownies. I had Beef on a Weck, which if you are from Rochester you know that means a Kimmelweck roll- the top is crusted with salt and caraway seed. Yum! The roll was great and the roast beef plentiful and flavorful. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a side of au jus, admittedly hard to carry on a plane. My sandwich didn't make it that far as I devoured it immediately. After all I couldn't let it get soggy! As an added plus they sell packaged Zweigles hot dogs to go - I purchased a 3 pack which comes with a little cooler bag that says Red Osier. The server also wrapped them in newspaper inside the cooler bag to keep them frozen for my flight. My husband will be so jealous that I had a Red Osier sandwich that I figure giving him the Zweigles will almost make up for it! read more

Ordered the prime rib carved at the table, Was cool to the touch and the au jus was not that much hotter. The prime rib seemed to have a lot more fat than normal, even though the carver already removed most of it. The Rutherford mashed potatoes were also cool to the touch. When mentioned to one of the waitresses their was a lack interest. For being expensive and at 5:15pm on a Friday I can see why they weren't that busy.
