I have yet to eat anything there I do not like, and my entire family would agree. The owner has a few restaurants on long island, all of which I would recommend 10/10 times for a nice dinner. Why didn't I come here sooner? I feel like I have deprived myself for six years of one of the most delicious restaurants Huntington has to offer and I really can't even answer the question as to why I didn't visit sooner. I am currently making up for lost time and have been here 3 times in the past 3 weeks, so maybe it was my bank account trying to protect me. My 5 stars is a legit 5 stars. I can't even think of one thing I would deduct even half a star for. It's no wonder considering I have nothing bad to say about the sister restaurants: SapSuckers, Osteria da Nino. The menu is scrumptious, they offer a prefixe most nights before 6pm. To be honest with you I haven't even had anything off of the menu yet because everytime I go in the specials are absolutely out of this world. But the regular menu offers a good mix of pasta and meat. My two latest favorites: Squid Ink Risotto with crab meat, lobster, and scallops. This dish fell down from heaven, I pray everynight that they offer it as a special more than once. My dining pal had their venison special which I feel like is very hard to find, and when you find it it isn't cooked that great. Fear not, order it if it's on special flavors and cooking are on point. The gelato is some of the best I have ever had, a perfect combo of cream and sugar. The coconut tiramisu is light and delicious. The wine menu pricing is great, you can find quality inexpensive selections. Servers are all friendly and willing to offer up suggestions. Big Friday night out- check. Well rested- check. Ready to have some good food- check. A nice private lot in the back on New St. gets you right where you need to be. As usual, the mad Russian and I chose a nice spot at the bar where we can take in all of the surroundings. Great circular bar that lets you interact with others either next or across from you and a great view out the plate window on New York Ave. Damon, our bartender, made some recommendations and we took him up on most of them. MR had a Brooklyn Mule to drink which she enjoyed very much and I challenged him to delite me with a Belvedere martini, which he did. We like to enjoy many different tastes so here's what we got: tuna tartare charred octopus cauliflower salad polpettine shrimp roll apple turnover for dessert Most everything was good although we were a little disappointed with the octopus- just a bit overcooked. The magic here, Damon says, is the fact that the chef like to use all organic ingredients. Nice presentation and lively chatter with others at the bar made for a nice night out. Full disclosure- if the service and attentiveness was not as good as it had been with our bartender, we would probably have subtracted one star. Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. So, to give you some context, I love the better restaurants, whether it be LI or the city. I can't afford to trek in and out of the city all the time, but on Long Island, I've tried my fair share of the restaurants everyone praises. I loved Mirabelle Tavern (better than Mirabelle Restaurant). The Brass Rail is fun with great food. Kitchen A Bistro is divine. My favorite restaurant of them all is George Martin the Original in Rockville Centre. I just tried-and loved-Jewel, in Melville. And Red is up there with those Grand High Exalted Mystic restaurants. It's safely, comfortably up there. It is well run, the food is amazing, the decor is lovely, the prices are high, but you're going in knowing that, and, let me tell you, because by now you're like, "SHE'S CRAZY! SHE'S BIASED! SHE KNOWS THE OWNER OR SOMETHING!" I do not in fact know the owner, BUT when my friend took me to Red last night for my birthday we had a major food problem AND I AM STILL SAYING ALL THIS. Let me explain. We arrived at Red for our 7:30 reservation exactly on time; luckily Red has a valet, because it's freezing out now, and parking in Huntington always requires some divine intervention. The hostess, and another lady, a manager I believe (we meet the manager again later, so keep notes!) greeted us; the decor is woody, smoky (not literally; figuratively, people!); it would be a good date spot, but then Red is a good anything-spot, because I saw younger people, older people, groups of friends, couples, etc. We were seated a couple of moments later. Water and bread were brought promptly. The bread was top notch; chewy, warm, you could taste just a hint of salt. Our waiter was great, mostly attentive enough. I had wine, my friend had a vodka and soda and then switched to wine. They have a nice wine/cocktail list. We each ordered salad and filet mignon. I had the Caesar salad; it was a good size (maybe even too big for an app portion); it had shavings of parmesan, enough croutons (so important!), and was flavorful and delicious. My friend had their salad special, and she really liked it, but I can't recall what it was. On to our major problem that, despite it, Red superheroically goes on to win 5 stars from me (and my friend!): we had each ordered filet mignon medium rare. We both told the waiter we wanted it medium rare, but definitely on the rare side. Really, we told him, we just don't want it to be bloody. He agreed, he wrote his little waiter notes down, anndd when the filets came, they were medium to the core. In all my years eating out at restaurants I've sent stuff back...zero times. ZERO. I'm always like, embarrassed to send stuff back. I feel sad about it. It's like saying, "No, chef, you are not good enough!" When really I want to say, "Thank you for trying so hard!" But my friend just looked at me and was like, "No. This is not cutting it. Both of these are going back." She was right; steaks are cooked to order, and these were most definitely not what we ordered. We called the waiter over as soon as we had cut in and had seen the mediumness of these filets, and he whisked them away, apologizing. Two minutes later, the manager was placing some sort of duck confit app in front of my friend and me, apologizing for the steaks, promising new ones soon. Our waiter hovered nearby. I was truly appreciative of her gesture, and the promptness and politeness with which she and our waiter responded to the steak debacle. I mean, we sent back $40 steaks AND THEY HAD TO GIVE US NEW ONES annnnd they throw in an app? Red, you're a class act. The duck confit app was delicious, and when the steaks came back about twelve minutes later (THEY EVEN PACED THEIR MISTAKE. These people are incredible), they too were divine. Medium rare, on the rarer side, not bloody. Wonderful. One small issue was that the waiter never returned once our new steaks came to check on us; I think he may have just forgotten, as he was busy, but, well, I don't have to tell you, Yelpers! Checking is standard, especially if there has been a problem. For dessert I had their flourless chocolate cake; it was very good; a little denser and it would match my fave truffle cake dessert from George Martin. I had the ice wine, and it was wonderful. I love ice wine. My friend had their hazelnut and banana cake, which was on special, and I think I actually liked that better than my flourless, lovely as it was. If the banana hazelnut cake is there when you are, strike while the iron is hot, friends. So, Red, you've won a place in my heart, a place on my All-Time list of restaurants (after one visit! Incredible! For the record, Jewel, which I mentioned above, is not on that list yet, because I've only been there once. You beat them!), and I will def. be back and bringing more people. Red is one of those amazing restaurants that you always know is going to be fabulous! I have gone here numerous times over the years and have never been anything less than 100% satisfied. The bread is warm and the butter is soft The wait staff is friendly and kind. The menu is simple yet fantastic The specials are interesting and innovative. The staff is extremely knowledgable about all the dishes. The drinks are wonderful and the desserts are special. Some of my favorite dishes Baby back ribs...these fall off the bone A special appetizer I've had a few times is the crab Napoleon which is so good It melts in your mouth The salmon is perfect, the filet mignon is tender and better then any steakhouse. Pear and apple cobbler and hot chocolate cake are the best! "Why are you staring at me with that lustful look in your eyes while I'm trying to pee Marilyn?", by that I'm referring to the portrait of the sultry 50s icon; Marilyn Monroe awkwardly positioned above the toilet in the men's room. Kinda hard to concentrate while your tryna take a whizz. Mental note: take care of business before coming to Red I can think of another 3 letter adjective to describe RED..... BAD. Don't be fooled by the pics posted on Yelp, It's like when you go and buy produce, you see this shiny Red apple (pun intended) but when you take it home and take a bite it's all crappy and brown on the inside. Yep, duped again!!! It's places like these that make me wonder if friends or family members are writing some of the reviews posted on here hmmmm.... The decor is tastefully done and pretty romantic, so if your lookin to impress your date with the ambiance of a restaurant then by all means bring them here. As for the food, dont come here expecting five star cuisine. Started off with cocktails: Grey Goose Martini=$14 Mojito=$9 They were just ok nothin special. but I guess it got the job done The bread basket consisted of "warm ciabatta bread", first bite pretty good, that is until I had a piece of the bottom crust which was burnt to the color of charcoal. Why the hell would you serve this to your patrons?! This my friend is called "foreshadowing" for the rest of the evenings' meal. Next up we ordered the appetizer special that nite; Fried Softshell Crab over Coleslaw; the crab was over fried in what tasted like really old oil and the coleslaw was so runny that it made the crab soggy. No bueno my amigos. Crab Napoleon; layers of "crab salad" between crispy fuelle de brick served with an avocado mousse. Sounds good rite? WRONG!!! The crab salad was actual lumps of crab meat but it was so lackluster and completely bland. The mousse was ok but not enough of it. $14 Based on the other Yelp reviews that were raving about the "Seared Dayboat Scallops" I decided to order it. This is one of very few times that I didnt like a dish that was recommended by Yelp users. The dish had five tiny scallops that were again; overcooked and yet it was cold when I ate it. I was pretty PO'd at this point so I didnt really pay attention to what the rest of this dish had in it. The only decent dish I had was the entree special they were offering that nite: Duck Confit served over a Gorgonzola Risotto. The only flaw of the dish was that there wasn't any vegetable served with it. My perspective is, you have both extremely rich and heavy things but no vegetation to break up the monotony of the dish? So in the middle of the meal the chef, which i believe is prob the owner came out and greeted another table next to us. I'm thinkin they were either reg. customers or friends of his but I felt kinda slighted that he didnt stop by the rest of the tables in the joint cuz there was maybe three other tables that were occupied. Maybe he knew that I was gonna tell em his food was fraudulent, false advertisement at it's finest. So $125 later I left in a huff as I always do when I feel ripped off eating at overrated places. Lesson learned. Next time I should prob choose carefully where I spend my benjamins. read more

A great place for super delicious drinks and food in town... and the steep price of the food reflects the quality of it. We have been here a few times and can't believe I have not reviewed this place before. The bar is great. We always like to relax and have a drink here before dinner. Wine selection is fantastic as well as mixed drinks. I ordered an Argentinian Malbec and my friends the Savignon Blanc. The quality of the wines is excellent! Enjoyed two glasses of it. As for bar snacks, there is not much in the selection and quality. We ordered 3 different types of snacks, (1) the friend calamari, (2) the shrimp egg rolls and (3) eggplant dip. The bread was warm and fresh. However, the rest of the food was not. The calamari had the frozen, deep fried taste and the sauce tasted like it came from a can. The eggplant dip was quite good and the shrimp appetizer ok, again, deep fried and frozen flavored. However, the main dining room food is a completely different story where the food is fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked. Service here is fantastic as well. Ambiance and decor is very chic and elegant. Hostess is very nice but kept talking on her cell phone a lot! Bathrooms are very clean and spacious. Christmas Eve 2018: Dinner with friends. Adding an additional guest (in advance) was an imposition (it's going to be cozy). There were four empty tables during our seating, yet we were crammed 8 into a table for 6. Drinks: 2 margaritas were delivered as salt rimmed tequila on Ice. Sent back and redelivered as lime juice and tequila. Ick. Drinking here would be a struggle so we quit and ordered dinner. I ordered beef bourguinon and Brussels sprouts. A pellet sized serving of greasy short rib in an enormous dish arrived, swimming in an unremarkable broth. Did I say greasy? The Brussels sprouts were charred to a dry death, unseasoned and burnt. Plain nasty. Very expensive. Another Huntington overpriced snooty assault on ones wallet. The one star is for our server, who endured delivering the sub standard fare. She was great. read more

I remembered going to this place for a small social gathering a few years ago. The party was a little weak, but the place certainly didn't disappoint. The setting is perfect. They have dim lighting/candles and soft music. It is an ideal atmosphere for a first date. And my good people, I practice what I preach. Recently I went on an introductory first date here. It was a late evening meeting for a couple of drinks. The place was very quiet (then again, it was a weds night), and the atmoshephere was as described. The bar tenders recognized that this was a first date and kept the bar open late just for us... One of the bar tenders even snapped a poloroid picture of us when we weren't looking and presented it to us at the end of the night. An absolute great place. I am reserving that fifth star because I did not try the food... but from all I experienced, it's fantastic. read more

Red is the best restaurant in Huntington in my opinion. This restaurant, along with Osteria da Nino and Sapsuckers, is owned by Nino who is a total gem in this town - he drives to New York markets himself to pick out produce that is up to his standards! The restaurant itself is dimly lit and has very attentive service. I've always found the servers to have that perfect intuition of when you want them there and when you don't. The food is excellent with lots of daily specials that are always worth a taste. When my picky grandmother didn't find anything she liked on the menu (she has her days!) they went out of their way to make a special pasta alfredo just for her...and it was DIVINE! Very cute, clean place. Sat outside. Lovely ambiance. The patio is in the back, so it's quiet. They have a large parking lot for guests which was a must for us. Ordered from the sunset menu (kinda like an early bird special before 6pm) which is a great deal. The spinach ravioli was exceptional seemed homemade with quality ingredients and the bread pudding was delicious. Ordered a dish with mixed seafood but could taste that chlorine or whatever it's called in most shrimp these days so I would skip it next time. It seemed more of the Italian dishes where their specialties and I would like to return and try other dishes. read more

The ambiance was wonderful and waitstaff fantastic. The food... Eh. It was ok. Nothing too special. The cavatelli w/filet mignon bolognese was probably the best part of the meal although I thought the cavatelli was supposed to be smaller, more spirally, & denser. It was very fresh with a good texture, and the bolognese was rich & piping hot. The caprese was flavorful w/balsamic vinegar glaze. The chicken florentine was pretty good. It was tender, and the cheese was melted very well onto it. The chef's special I got was the prosciutto-wrapped monkfish, which was a little disappointing. The prosciutto was cooked such that it was hard & crispy. It was so tough to chew! The Pinot noir finish was tasty, making the whipped potatoes & porcini mushroom the best part of the dish & not the fish which should have been the center of attention. Dessert was good. Toasted coconut tiramisu was unique! Coconut milk infused mascarpone cheese w/toasted coconut flakes was absolutely delish! Overall, trendy decor, friendly & prompt waitstaff, and so-so food. The price was too hefty for the quality of dishes. $11 for a Scottish beer? Really wanted to give more stars for the welcoming dining experience but the food could've been better and was just over-priced. read more

I was just reminded by Amy D,'s review that I have yet to review Red. It's a great Restaurant/Bar lounge located at the south end of town in Huntington Village, it's a super cozy and intimate location that offers some great food, very good service and done in a city-ish like setting. They always seem to have some wonderful specials and the menu varies slightly. The food here is nicely presented and made with what seem to be fresh and quality ingredients. It seems cliche but it's a great place for a second or third date, very nice spot overall and would highly recommend it for a nice dinner or even for drinks. read more

My wife had a duck appetizer which was very good, but everything else, including cocktails, main course, and sweets were just ok. Mmm delicious! I've been wanting to try Red for some time now, after hearing nothing but good things about it. When my bf was looking for a restaurant to bring his family to for his brother's birthday, I right away suggested Red! It was quiet on a Sunday evening, but the restaurant still had a nice cozy feeling to it. Service was warm and friendly, although the only gripe I had with the service was when they refilled our waters. I prefer for the waiter to take the glass rather than try and fill your glass while it's on the table. This way the server does not accidentally pour water onto your plate of food. The server never did get water onto my plate but I still didn't appreciate the arm in my face. Just take the glass! It's okay! Anyway, on to the food. I really appreciate when a restaurant serves warm, fresh bread and soft butter. Thank you! For appetizers, we ordered the pan-seared scallops, the peking duck napoleon, and the wild mushroom risotto. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. For entree, I had the seared yellowfin tuna served with jasmine rice and vegetables, which I enjoyed thoroughly. My bf had the cavatelli pasta with filet mignon bolognese sauce. The portions were perfectly sized and left just enough room for dessert! I had the trio of gelato, while bf ordered the bread pudding. There was also a berry napoleon special tonight that was wonderful as well. I think the bread pudding was my favorite of all the desserts :) It's been a while since I've been so pleased with an entire meal. I highly recommend Red for a nice evening out! read more

This was my second visit to Red. The first time I had eaten there the food was good so I figured I would give it another try. Ordered the stuffed calamari appetizer special. I give up trying to find out what it was stuffed with, my head is starting to hurt. The tomato based sauce was bland, calamari was grilled to much and was chewy. They didn't charge me for this dish because we told the waiter it was terrible. We ordered a spinach/ricotta ravioli. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was tasty. I ordered a Filet Mignon which was under cooked and somewhat cold, the twice baked potato was boring and tiny in size, yay the asparagus was good. We ordered canoli cream desert and asked the waiter to bring shells on the side which he did. There were so many chocolate chips in the canoli cream it completely took away from the taste of the desert. Meal was pedestrian at best and with so many other restaurants in town, I don't plan on returning to Red. I'm going to give Osteria Da Nino a shot. I like Sapsuckers too. I have eaten here before and after their renovation and both times, I've been incredibly impressed with the taste and style of the food offerings. After the renovation, the interior looks better than before and is great for date night or dinner with friends. Our most recent visit was made even better with a young, funny and spirited waiter who truly offered one of the most entertaining and purposefully planned dining experiences I've ever had. Folks, it doesn't get any better. Huntington is a town of many fine restaurants and tap rooms, but Red has always been special. There are excellent places that hit one note and hit it well. I think the reason for Red's success is that it's more three-dimensional; it has depth. The bar is cozy, yet cosmopolitan. Their wine selection is first-rate and the beer menu is refreshing and underrated. The food is elegant, yet approachable. The harvest salad followed by Yellowfin tuna with wasabi aioli will make you want to high-five a complete stranger. The service is refined, yet friendly. While their attention to detail and formal training will make you feel like a VIP, you can still share a laugh. During warmer weather, eat in their "Secret Garden" outside for an experience you can't get anywhere else. read more

First time dining here. Newly renovated and beautiful. Cozy-trendy feel, dim amber lighting, lively and joyous crowd. Although having a reservation, we were sat 40 minutes late. The gorgeous U-shaped bar made the wait a little easier, especially having an apologetic round of cocktails on the house. Very good management and service! The meals all looked great. Our friends and I dined at Red for the first time last night. The outside patio is beautiful, heaters all around and beautiful greenery and planters. They truly made the most of the space. Came in last night for the 1st time although its been around for awhile. My mistake. I should have come before. The noise level was great, the people seemed to be having a good time and was eating immediately. Attention and timing was very good throughout the dinner service. I ordered the Tuna Tartare and Paella.....the Paella was great!! not too salty and had enough seafood for my liking. My party enjoyed their dishes and dessert. I was happy I made the reservation but I was a few years late in doing so. Shame on me. It was good to see the executive chef Nino....for quality control and it showed. read more

A very nice spot. Good food, pleasant decor and friendly service. There is an expansive menu with plenty of familiar choices, plus about a half-dozen specials on a nightly basis. My girlfriend had the shell steak, which was absolutely enormous and very tasty. I had the potato gnocchi with sausage, which was also delicious. Our waitress was polite, friendly and didn't hover or disappear for long periods of time. This place is owned by the same people who own Sapsuckers nearby, so if you like Sap's, try Red. Its only drawback is its less-than-stellar location, on the west side of New York Ave. opposite Besito, next to a gas station. But once you're inside, the seating is arranged so that you sort of forget where you're at, which nullifies the only bad part of the experience. read more

Went here for the first time after passing it by on multiple occasions. The inside of the restaurant is decorated in, you guessed it, lots of red (and some blue). There was a big party going on and we had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated, but we had a nice, central table with good service. Had the Caesar Salad which is (thankfully) anchovy-free. Really good, and I've had A LOT of Caesar Salad in my life. Went for an appetizer portion of the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli. Let me tell you, this was the best ravioli I've ever had in my life. Perfect. The sauce was delicious and creamy. I even ended up eating the mushrooms (a food I detest) and almost licking the plate. So worth it, and a perfect portion. We recently had red snapper which was dried out and served with a strange combination of kale and pico de gallo. The burger was not delivered medium as requested, but was already slightly overcooked. Wow, this place really blew me away last night! Our server was fantastic and to me, it seemed like she was always there and the food itself is prepared at the highest level. The calamari was crisp, juicy, and tender. We also had the most decadent arugula salad, it was as fresh and lively as the botanical decor which lined this relaxing venue. The fresh pasta, wow! The fresh pasta bolognese had such a balanced and uniform flavor I nearly looked up from the table and called out, "nonna please give me more!". Now we get to dessert, a decadent trio of flavors. Hands down best restaurant in Huntington. Quality is unbeatable and the people working there are all so kind and hospitable/accommodating

Came here last Friday. Service was super inconsistent. We ordered a pair of drinks and they took forever to arrive, we then ordered appetizers which arrived before we had a chance to sample our drinks. I tried to flag someone down to order wine and got nowhere until the host, who seemed bored, offered to help us out. Appetizers were duck tacos and some chicken meatballs. Both dishes were pretty good. Sauce for the meatballs was awesome and matched very well. Duck was good, not great. The missus had the beef bourguignon which she enjoyed very much. I had the steak frites which was seriously disappointing, especially for the cost. The meat was full of gristle and about 1/3 of it ended up as unchewable remnants on my plate. All that for $35? Not worth it. Dessert was creme brulee, which I was looking forward to. Fairly mediocre. It was somehow just too sweet and I had two bites and left the rest for the missus, who also was not terribly excited to finish it. read more

First time here , they have a lovely outdoor dinning area . We were seated immediately. Food and drinks arrived at table quickly. Wait staff was friendly , helpful and fabulous ! Food was great ! We will definitely return . read more
