    Nice house red wine

We love this restaurant in our neighborhood. We had reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday. He picked the new place and wanted to check it out. We had cocktails at the bar. The martini, old fashioned and Galianos aperol drinks were delicious. The owner Vinny came to greet us and offered us a complimentary cheese platter. For dinner we enjoyed the grilled octopus; was grilled to perfection as well as lettuce salad. Main course, steak and lobster paella was amazing. They gave us a complimentary pasta with gnocchi with truffle sauce. Delicious! We all enjoyed the meal and the service was excellent. The place is small but nicely decorated. We felt like home & we will definitely come back again.

Always excited when something new opens in the area, unfortunately this place is a bust…read more In other reviews people praised "the ambiance", both my wife and I thought it was terrible. The bar area is reminiscent of someone's basement bar and the dining area is loud with a very poor lighting design. The food itself is a joke. Very small portions and ridiculously expensive as well as being poorly prepared. We started with the white anchovy appetizer which consisted of 3 toothpicks with an olive wrapped in an anchovy, something you would find in a martini and not an appetizer. The lamb chops and the fish of the day were both overcooked and appetizer sized, but with entree pricing. The carrot cake dessert wasn't even a cake but a dried out cruller sitting on some cream cheese. The wine list was nothing to remember and equally overpriced. We won't be back.

There was a guy and a girl both so nice and they explained everything to us about the food and drink. We had the rice balls (arancini) and the cheese platter. The cheese platter was weird because I couldn't identify the meat and I believe they have since changed this. The arancini was very good. My husband had an old fashioned and I had an espresso martini which was very good. There was a baileys infused whipped cream on it. Take note of that for a second... Fast forward to this past Saturday. We stopped in just for a drink, we had already eaten. Hubby ordered a scotch and they asked what kind of ice with choices. He opted for a big cube, he got two of these. The bartender this time was a guy with tattoos, not super friendly but he was ok. I asked for the espresso martini again. I got one without the whipped cream, he said I didn't order the right one. I should have ordered the "Josh's"espresso martini. I didn't have that issue last time but ok...he didn't ask which one I preferred so whatever. Then we get the bill... Here's where it got interesting. We were charged $2 each time for the big ice cube and $3 for adding whipped cream to my martini. I'm sorry...what?? You are charging $2 for ice?? And $3 for a squirt of whipped cream?? YIKES! We struck up a conversation with ladies at the bar and showed them the bill. One of them told a female employee, perhaps possible owner that it's things like this that make people not come want to back. I don't understand how a new establishment trying to make it would be so transparent on nickel and diming people like this. The atmosphere is very nice, they are mostly friendly but it makes me rethink going back. It's not about the few dollars it's the principle of the matter. I wish I had saved the receipt to take a pic.

We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not. I went with the chickpea fries, which were very crispy on the outside and extremely creamy on the inside. It is coated in a layer of chickpea powder and then fried. It was very interesting and i'd order this again. It paired well with the harissa aioli. For my entrée, I got the beer-battered fish and chips. My fries were much thicker than everyone else's, and they also came with potato chips that tasted oily. I didn't love the fish and chips and wouldn't order this again, but my friends enjoyed their burgers, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and roasted cauliflower steak. Service was good. They had a creative drink menu and had many creative food options. As I'm not a huge fan or red sauce, I was happy to see that I could get any of their meals with the vodka sauce. The fried gnocchi with the truffle sauce was so good we will definitely be back again. The chicken had a light breading that didn't take away from the taste of the meal. I spoke to a woman in the bathroom and she said even if you don't have a reservation, you can always find a spot on the grass or chairs. There's plenty of room to hang out. Our server Les was incredible! You can tell when you have a great experienced waiter that is truly good at their job and love what they do! Pay him whatever he wants and never let him go! He truly made the dining experience above and beyond. I ordered the Sauvignon Blanc and he asked me if I wanted a glass or a bottle and I told him I couldn't drink a bottle because I had to drive home. He told me if I was gonna have two glasses. It would end up being about equal to the bottle price and that I could take the rest of the wine home! What a nice surprise, and the fact that he pointed out made me feel like he goes above and beyond for his customers! Now let's talk about the food! I was in a party of three and they had ordered the appetizer sandwich for the table which was gigantic! Both of the other guests love the sandwich, but I didn't try it because I do not like prosciutto. The truffle chips were fantastic; I'm still thinking about them and I didn't even know I liked truffle! I ate 90% of them. The portions are massive but in a good way because the food is exceptional! One guest was so full from the sandwich that she opted to not order an entrée I ordered the margarita flatbread and it had to be over a foot and a half long. I ended up taking half home and my husband ate it and said it was delicious as well. The other guest ordered the meatballs and I tasted them and they were quite delicious. By the time the meal was over we left with half a sandwich half a flatbread and some extra meatballs. For dessert: we got a llimoncello flute and I got the largest lemon beautifully presented with lemon sorbet! I told us I don't usually take pictures of my food, but this was photo worthy! The wine was one of my favorite Sauvignon Blanc that I've ever had in my life! We will definitely go back for the food and definitely will be purchasing the wine again! 4/5 food 10/5 for the service and ambience Thank you for a wonderful experience on a beautiful afternoon! We both had the garlic shrimp which were very well flavored but unfortunately didn't have even one garlic clove, which was disappointing and there were only 6 shrimp. The paella is supposed to be for 2-4 people which I can see if you have more tapas but we finished it off. It came with a healthy amount of shrimp, grilled calamari and chorizo and was perfectly seasoned. We also appreciated how the rice was a bit crispy and not mushy.
