This is a comment only about the service and drinks, not the food. I heard the food was actually good from locals but we did not have the chance to try it. First, the drinks are CHEAP! Like two single mixers for about 6 dollars total. WOW! That being said, they did not carry the type of alcohol that I drink (Tito's) so I was a bit disappointed by that. In addition, the bartender was smoking when we walked in. She quickly served us but I did not see her wash her hands between finishing her smoke and pouring our drinks. read more

I've been enjoying the Red Room food and drinks for over 45 years as I am a SB local but my recent experience was extremely disturbing. When I finished my lunch and went to pay my tab I directed one of the owners to give my $7 or $8 tip to the female waitress/barhop who works very hard to keep up with serving the tables for lunch. It was an obvious faux pas on my behalf because I mostly was sitting at the bar for the majority of the time and not in the waitresses domain. Well, the owner sure let me know it. He went off on me and had to remind me that it was HIM that served the beverages....it was HIM that took our order and it was HIM that served the food. ok! ok! My bad dude. I had a momentary lack of reason but for the owner to go out of his way to correct me and berate me and then storm out of the restaurant was totally humiliating and certainly uncalled for. I tracked him down outside and apologized for my seemingly terrible behavior and tried to offer a generous tip but by now that wasn't going to fly. He had made up his mind that I had committed an unforgivable sin and it was irreconcilable. Ok Red Room owner.....you win. But you better ask yourself if the $7-$8 misguided tip was worth the idiotic and pathetic demonstration of childish behavior was worth all the negative publicity. read more

I read somewhere that someone really liked the food here so we gave it a shot on a Saturday afternoon. Glad we did! We found a table for two just waiting for us so we took a seat. Ordered the chili which was amazing with flavor, cheeseburgers, order of fries and a drink. Everything was spot on. Hot and fresh and wonderful. When we walked out Crystal who was workin hard waiting on everyone and serving drinks grabbed my leftovers and ran them out the door to me down the sidewalk! She is amazing! Lesson number one when traveling... ask a local where to eat a good lunch. "Your a moron if you don't check out the red room" Well; I'm many things but a moron sure the hell isnt one of them so with that rave review, to the red room I went. Their menu makes up a quarter of a page if typed in a normal font without all the artwork - just the way I like it. What's more, it's all bar food in a very old bar. (This just keeps getting better!) after getting a look for ordering my food without a beer, I was asked "well, your coming back after work right?!?" Damn... I'm home. Food was great. Staff is superb. Damn... they don't take credit cards. I never even saw a sign that said they don't. When I asked about that I was told "dude, this place has been here for 80 years and some things are never going to change" ok, I can deal with that. They do have an ATM though. Got recommended to come here for the bloody Mary's from a bartender in Algoma. They were good, but I wouldn't go out if my way to come here just for that. However the service here was good and fast, cheese curds were yummy, and the prices were good. Nice local bar and grill. read more

The Red Room Special. A freshly ground, hand-formed, 1/2-lb. patty with onions (I go with grilled), pickles and cheese on grilled Texas toast for $4.50??!! Simplicity at its best. Like a really tasty patty melt. If you're looking for fancy or gourmet anything or pampered service, this isn't it. But if you want consistently hot, tasty, food, served up promptly, this is the place. Burgers, chili, fried curds, French fries--all inexpensive and always good. FYI, cash only, but they do have an ATM inside. And it's a small town bar, so they'll take care of that for you too, if you want a beer or drinks. read more

Place came highly recommended from the restaurant next door, so we decided to have one more drink here. Beer is dirt cheap here, like Budweiser drafts for $1 and Coors light bottles for $2. Pretty sweet. Cool dive bar atmosphere. Staff was friendly but rest of the crowd didn't seem too friendly to non-locals. Kinda awkward and uncomfortable. We drank and played here for last year's Steel Bridge Song Fest. It was a blast - charmingly snarky staff, cheap drinks (seriously - coming from Chicago, I can't believe I only paid $3 for a glass of Red Label), and a room that shouldn't be set up for music but for some reason sounds great (well, everything sounds great after $12 worth of scotch here). I was disappointed. Here for work and honestly nervous being in small rural towns. Based on the yelp reviews, I figured I'd come here for MNF and some dinner. I wound up here after reading reviews of the place since I was in town for my wives friend's wedding. Nothing for me to do since I didn't know anyone.
