After getting stranded in the area I decided grab a quick bite to eat. While I was surprise by the service, the food itself wasn't anything special. I got chili cheese fries and the Rooster Sandwich (New York Strip Steak sandwich). The fries were lukewarm and had almost no flavor. For the record I just want to say putting meat on a slice of bread does not make it a sandwich!! (At the minimum there needs to be at least 2 slices of bread for it to be a sandwhich!!!) But the steak tasted like something I bought at kingsoopers and cooked at home (Ps I'm kinda a crappy cook) Really the only good thing about this place was the service and portion size. read more

I can't believe there's a single non-5 star review for Red Rooster Cafe. This is by far the best breakfast in Denver. Ever since I moved from the east coast, I've been on the search for a solid diner. Red Rooster far exceeded expectations. I now frequent this place more than any other restaurant. Insane amounts of tasty, nicely presented food at amazing prices. My son had the special steak sandwich for $10. The steak turned out to be at least 10 ounces and about an inch thick! Prepared rare as requested, served open-faced on nicely buttered, thick, grilled toast and topped with grilled green peppers and onions. The heap of well-cooked fries took over the rest of the 12-inch plate. He devoured the food with pleasure. Wow, what a meal! I ordered the Mexican steak with eggs. My rare steak was a little thinner, about 8 ounces, smothered with hot (I do mean hot) green chili and cheese. Two over-easy eggs sat beside the giant order of nicely cooked breakfast potatoes which contained an occasional mushroom or green pepper chunk. This plate came with a choice of biscuits and gravy, French toast, or pancakes. (You could get regular toast or tortillas if preferred, but I can't imagine who would prefer those over the other choices.) I took home half my steak, about 3/5 of the potatoes, and two lovely pancakes for which the waitress provided take-home syrup and margarine. This will be another two or three meals for me for the grand total of $10. Note: At first all I tasted in the chili was the heat. It tasted great with the steak, though; and as I got used to the heat I noticed the nuanced flavors. It would be great on a burrito, which the Red Rooster sells for just $2.50 before 10 a.m. Wowzers! The cafe is located in a very ordinary downscale strip mall, the type most people regard as unappealing. The interior is spotless but ordinary. You don't come here to impress anyone - you come here to enjoy the food! The waitresses call you honey and sweetie and seem to mean it, and they work hard to keep you happy. The coffee mugs are huge. The cream is real half-and-half. The serving plates and portions are huge. The burgers are huge. I saw a burger being enjoyed, and it put the chains to shame. The gyros are not only huge but also golden brown on the outside, looking more delicious than normal. (Yes, they have Greek too - bonus!) Definitely worth a stop whenever you're in the area, and even worth a detour! read more

I have been craving Biscuits & Gravy for breakfast for several weeks. I called Red Rooster as I had seen the restaurant driving by for work several times. I was encouraged that their signage showed "Home Made Green Chile" and "Grass Fed Beef". Looked like a couple of really good baselines. Unfortunately, their gravy was some gross gelatinous substance that came out of a box or bag or can (VERY reminiscent of the crap they serve for the free breakfast at mid-range hotels). The 'sausage' in the sausage gravy was not present and it tasted mostly like reconstituted milk. It came with 'home fries' which were oily/greasy potatoes (a combination of sliced/chunked/shredded), kind of stale tasting with no caramelized or crisp portions. This place is generally pretty busy and I would guess there are some things on their menu they do well. But I can warn you there are things on their menu they do extremely poorly. I expect everything on a menu to be worth serving. It is a restaurant, not a roulette wheel. I won't be back. read more

Really yummy food for a good price. Ordered the barbecue bacon cheeseburger with fries and was enough to fill me on an empty stomach. Their beef is 100 percent grass fed (says on the front) which was nice to know. This was some of the best "diner" food I have ever had. The menu was no help because everything looked amazing lol. I needed up getting the Chicken Fried Steak Skillet and it was HUGE! Lord above it was a lot of food. My Roomgay got the Arizona Chicken Sandwich and the sandwich was about the size of His face. Everything was hot and flavorful! The crust on the chicken fried steak was perfect!! And the sausage gravy was SO GOOD! I didn't care for the biscuit but that wasn't a big deal. I would recommend this place to everyone!!!! Driving around one day and came upon the Red Rooster Cafe decided to give it a try. Immediately upon entering I was greeted by an older gentleman who greeted the entire family and told the family about the specials. Took a seat and the waitress came over immediately taking our drink orders. Daughter ordered a bean burrito and I ordered the chicken plate special. Omg the bean burrito was huge and flavorful. Just happened to see the breakfast burrito sign on my way home from work so I decided to check it out this morning and let's me just say.. WOW. Super friendly staff first of all, and the breakfast burrito was fantastic. I'm not a big green chili guy and I'm glad I opted out bc I would've hated for it to take away from the taste of that burrito by itself. I'm always a BIG fan of diners so finding this place just off the interstate was amazing. Stepped in and the place was very busy. All tables full. The food selection is wide and I spent 15 minutes just finding what to eat. Mainly because there was pictures on the menu and everything looked way too good. The waitstaff was extremely friendly, gave plenty of time to read the menu and we never felt rushed. I asked my server her opinion on what to get and she said the Arizona Turkey Avocado sandwich. She made the perfect recommendation. The sandwich was bigger than my face. Piled high with thick cut bacon, lots of slices of Turkey meat, and a nice avocado made this a real meal. It was knotty 11$ and I could barely finish half of it. The French Fries were very crisp and hot so I loved the mixture. Wow, go here with an empty stomach!! The food was amazing, comfort food. Everything was fresh and hot and delicious. The portion size is for giants! We had so many leftovers that we needed 3 boxes! The staff was so so friendly and made us feel right at home and welcome. I'm from the south and felt like I was back there when I was in here. No frills kind of place that is kid friendly and has amazing food. We went on a tour of the candy factory right before we went here so we didn't have to go fat(it's right next door) I will definitely be making this a place to bring guests when they come and visit. Thank God that Stockyard Saloon was closed (because THAT makes business sense, to close on the weekend)!!!! Red Rooster cafe was my second choice. When you walk in, you will feel like you are on the set of a dated movie. Or maybe you'll feel like you are in some remote town in the middle of the desert. Who knows what YOU will think about this place but I will assure you that there is no other place, operating in the same general "space" that can compete with the burgers that you will get from here! I ordered the Arizona burger (not on the menu, but it's the Arizona Turkey sandwich but with a burger). The burger is enormous, all beef 1/2 patty, avocado, bacon, cheese, tomato, pickle, onion, and lettuce with fries. You would think that's enough...but you'd be WRONG! Of all the amazingness that I listed, it's there BUNS that have captured me. And I'm not referring to the waitresses! Their homemade buns are thin but rich in flavor and texture. Overall, the burger is huge, but I wanted a bite of bun with each trip that this burger made to my mouth! Lastly, the staff here is great. If you don't like, some 50 something mother-figures calling you "honey", "babe", "sweetie", and "darling", this isn't the place for you...and WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!! Overall, a pretty good experience. The servers and cashier were extremely friendly and it was a full house at lunch on a Thursday. Lots of locals frequent this place and the hearty portions reflect the needs of the hard working clientele. Truly terrific portions; I'm talking serious plate coverage on gigantic plates. I had a tuna melt served with pickles (I can't get enough of these at diners; I really like trying them everywhere) and it was tasty--the fries, however, were disappointing. They came out looking like the amazing boardwalk fries I'd grown up on in Ocean City, Maryland but they were limp, soggy and quite a bummer. I found myself scrounging for the smaller fries which had retained some crunch. SV had the "Big Fat Greek Plate" which had chicken, pork and a shaved meat which I will assume was the lamb log that is apparent in many kebab houses. It was delicious. Lots of red peppers, onions, olives and two tubs of spicy yogurt sauce to spread on the included pieces of pita bread. Her meal also included the lackluster fries which were summarily ignored as well. We'll have to go back and see if the fries were a fluke--there's lots to try on the menu so I'm sure I'll find something else I like. There was also an assortment of pies and cakes there. It's a little off the beaten path (unless your path happens to be I-25, north of the city), but it's worth the drive. We hit it up on the way to the Hammond's Candy Cane Festival (HOLY COW WHAT A CLUSTER-EFF), and it was-- by far-- the best part of the excursion! The portions are a little obscene. As in, HUGE. As in, you'll be eating them for at least two meals, possibly three. But the food is reasonably priced and damn tasty. I had the Shooting Star Skillet, and it was amazing. The herbed cheese (think that Boursin stuff you spread on crackers) really added a nice twist to what would have otherwise been a basic diner offering. I always order my eggs over-medium, and you'd be shocked at how many places can't get this simple request right. Red Rooster nailed it: the whites totally solid and a little crispy on the edges, the yellow soft and oozy, but not runny or watery. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food came out pretty quickly. The one thing they do need is a couple more high chairs. This is totally a family-style place, but they've only got about three of them. Just a suggestion! read more

This was, in my mind, the stand out eating experience on our trip to Denver. My wife and I were going to the Hammond Candy Factory but I needed real food before getting my fill of sugar. Our navigational skills on the "maps" setting wasn't in the most conducive mode for domestic tranquility and we missed the turn for candy factory. i pulled around into the Red Roster café and was very pleasantly surprised for brunch. Ok, I am about 30 days into the New Year and have found myself sticking to my healthy eating habits until now. I fell off the wagon, but am not beating myself up over it:) About 10 of us were going to the Motorcycle Swap meet and on we met here for breakfast before hand. I had never been here before, and pulling in I felt there were a lot of cars and worried that we would have a wait. Fortunately you can just the place by the cars on the outside, as was pretty sizeable in the inside. Our friends were already there and so we sat right down. They were super accomodating and nice. The breakfast selection was a good variety, and I selected to go with Pigs in a Blanket... others had waffles, and biscuits and gravy... and all the dishes were HUGE... especially, the blueberry pancakes with oatmeal... they were gianormous!! It was good food. What you would expect from a cafe... and since I walked around for about 4 hours after, I didn't feel AS bad for eating so much yummy breakfast food that morning!!
