Red Top continues to be amazing during Covid-19. It's one of the only Vietnamese options in the area and stands up to any other. Currently they're only doing takeout through a little side pick up window. The food is delicious, I got the eggrolls, spring rolls, and fillet mignon cubed. I've been coming here since their opening and it continues to amaze me and be a great option in Baldwin Park. Support local! Lately I've been obsessed with shaken beef and I think I've found my go-to place! Their Shaken Beef Platter (Bo Luc Lac) is SO GOOD! The meat was ridiculously tender and very well-seasoned. The portion size was also very generous, I was able to save the other half for another meal. As most places do, their Pho comes in 2 sizes: regular and large. We got their Red Top pho special (regular sized) and it came with sliced steak, brisket, flank, tendon and tripe. The broth was very flavorful and had little to no oil in it. You can tell it was not filled with sodium or MSG because I didn't feel like downing a whole gallon of water afterwards. We also ordered their Vietnamese iced coffee and it was very strong and potent. Definitely kept me wired all day at work. Ive had their pho before and it was quite decent so I figured Id try their Pad Thai, but it wasn't it at all. The looks of it to begin with didn't look like it was gona be good and it lived up to it. There was no flavor it was so bland. No trace of Thai flavor at all, and their spring roll wasn't good either. I was expecting the pork to be the thick sausage like, like at other thai restaurants, but it was just the think sliced pork they put on pho or something. This place has excellent and authentic food and the service was friendly. This review is long overdue but it had the best Viet food for that area! I come from a long line of Vietnamese chefs and also make the food whenever I have time so I feel I have a pretty good sense of what is authentic. The Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio (Grilled pork Vermicelli Noodles with fried egg roll) was PERFECT. The cuts of meat were right, it had the right smokiness and caramelization with slight salty & sweetness. Some other places will use a reddish seasoning but that is not correct. The color should be a warm brown caramelization. The egg rolls had the proper wood ear mushrooms, carrots and bean thread noodle. The pho tai chin had really good cuts of meat and they gave ample portions. The broth was clear, flavorful and fragrant with perfect seasoning and all the usual herbs to add to it. The Thai tea was good and not too sweet and the size was good for the price. If I had to make one criticism, it would be that their Nuoc Cham (fish dipping sauce) was too plain and lacked the minced garlic and pickled carrots but otherwise the sweetness of it was okay. It's minor compared to the outstanding food, service and ambiance. Unfortunately, I don't live in the area to come here more often but I would definitely return if I was in the area. read more

Came here for the shaken beef (bò lúc lc). I'm really wary of eating meat that's so pink but it was seriously sooooo good. There was a good amount of rice and service was great. Came here for pho. Pho is OK, although I feel like the broth could be a little more tasteful (keep in mind I ordered take-out). I thought the price was reasonable compared to other pho places in big city areas, although this is kind of tucked away in a suburban area. I never really got on board with the whole pho movement until I tried Red Top Kitchen. Their pho is so finger-lickin' good and their noodle-to-broth proportion is perfect! I especially love the Veggies combo which includes several pieces of thin-sliced tofu and tasty veggies including broccoli and bok choy. Yum! Their iced milk teas are also exquisite (my favorite is the mango!). As far as service--it is not the best but it is pretty darn good; the servers are friendly and helpful. Something I do not like is that the condiment containers (which are readily available on every table) are pretty sticky. That's a downer for sure! Lesson for today: If a Vietnamese restaurant located in an area with very little Vietnamese customers gets a high rating, proceed with caution and don't believe the hype. With a 4.5 star average at this writing, and people lined up during lunch hours, it gives the impression this place is worth the drive. It isn't. First, as a witness, the long line during lunch is because they are severely short staffed. One guy has to seat people, take orders, prepare to-go orders, take to-go orders, clear & wipe tables, bring drinks, take payments, and whatever else he needs to do behind the scenes. And he isn't exactly a young energetic guy slamming down Red Bulls all day long. Luckily, we arrived right before the rush. Second, and more importanly, the food: We ordered a vermicelli combo (or as legit places would call Bun), which includes grilled chicken and egg roll. The chicken was on point with nice chunks of tasty meat. The egg roll tasted a bit like it was fried in old grease. The vermicelli was absolutely tasteless. They forgot to give me fish sauce, and after waiting 5 min. for them to bring it out, it was in a soy sauce dispenser. I poured and poured the sauce into the bowl and mixed it well, and the flavor just magically disappears. It just repels flavor. There were no mint leaves. Also got a seafood pho, which consisted of 3 small shrimp, fish cakes and imitation crab. Just because they use the words fish & crab, it doesn't make it real seafood. The flavor was OK, but it should be appropriately named 'imitation' seafood pho. The menu shows the iced coffee as being served in a Vietnamese phin (filter) but it came in a plastic cup, already blended. It was strong, sweet and potent, probably the best part of our lunch. I remain confused why so many people say the food here is so good and why people line up to tolerate the long unnecessary wait. I was starving on the 605 on the way to La Puente, my trusty Yelp app guided me to Red Top on a beautiful Friday afternoon on which I was getting very hangry!! Upon entering I found the wonderful aroma of Vietnamese spices and pho broth. This upped the hangriness. Big parking lot at the front. The waiter gave me a wrong order.. he was really flustered and was very confused with my entire tables order. He asked some of us 2-3x over and over what we got so he could double check for us since we asked. Some of my friends didn't get their food until a lot later on! They probably messed up somewhere in the kitchen. I got the vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken. They gave a bunch of grilled chicken which is awesome! I ordered the Bun Gia Gio Thit Nuoung (cold rice noodle with egg rolls and BBQ pork). It's pretty healthy, you get alot in portion. The BBQ pork is good but not authentic. The noodles (bun) are the not thin bouncy ones I am used to. They were a little bouncy, but are round kind like thin spaghetti. I'm a little critical cuz i eat at alot of Vietnamese places, and they had to change the flavor a little bit cuz of the demographics. I think alot of people eating here are american or mexican, so the fish sauce has to be dulled down, meaning there is probably little or no fish sauce in it, mostly water and sugar. So again, the place tastes good and was a nice dinner for me. However, having parents and grandparents from Vietnam, it is not exactly authentic. read more

I ordered Pho, shaken beef with rice, and egg rolls. The shaken beef was delicious; though the pho broth was tasty as well, I'm a little disappointed that they did not provide me any limes. My egg rolls order did not come with any vegetables to wrap with, and worst part, came with sweet and sour sauce instead of fish sauce!!! Very disappointing! I'm very nervous about trying new places and places like these are the reasons why I don't try new places first of all, the place was DIRTY and the tables are all messy and dirty. There were people smoking outside , so it's not a no smoking area. The food was alright and speed of service was kind of wack. Some bald dude wearing a cowboys sweater working here took forever. It's nice to have so many pho options when I visit SoCal! Seeing as how Red Top had so many good reviews, we decided to give it a try after a long, hot day outdoors on Sunday. The portion sizes are really generous. Even a regular bowl of pho is a substantial helping, loaded with lots of meat and noodles. I get Tai pretty much everywhere I go, and this place didn't skimp on the beef. My friends seemed similarly satisfied by their bowls, containing everything from tripe to meatballs to tendon. Been coming to this place for years (before, after and during the pandemic). The food absolutely never disappoints. It's a small establishment that always seems to fill up yet wait times are almost non existent. The manager/owner (I believe) is always super friendly and interacts/jokes with the customers and provides a jovial feel to the atmosphere. The usual suspects for myself is the filet mignon pho and the spring rolls. Not sure I've had a better tasting pho and everyone who has had it usually says something of similar words. Spring rolls are pretty good especially with the peanut sauce. Although this may not seem like a big deal, the limes that come along with the accessories to flavor your soup are always so juicy. The only reason this review holds 4 stars instead of 5 is that - as much as I love this place - we always seemed to get a waiter who was there to count the minutes until his shift was over. When the pandemic was full swing and you could only eat outside, you would literally have to knock on the window or go hunt him down inside to order a drink. Before and after pandemic you would have to wave at him or call him as he would usually be stuck watching whatever was playing on the television. I attribute this to him being fresh out of high school and perhaps a family friend/relative of establishment. Whenever you would call him Pho Soupover for service however I will admit he got it done in a hurry and no mistakes. Just a little annoying you had to go out of your way to get him to do his job I guess. Needless to say the last time or 2 he did not receive a tip which still makes me cringe at myself. In my most recent visits to this place though I haven't seen him there so not sure if still employed or not but regardless it would not stop me from going to this amazing little kitchen in Baldwin Park. When I asked the staff why the price was different with the menu, he told me. The price was increase, bottom of the menu. The filet mignon was perfectly seared and cooked while remaining melt-in-your-mouth-tender. WHOA! The red fried rice it accompanied was exactly how I like my fried rice; just egg and rice with a hint of tomato paste. My one gripe was that the onions needed to be cooked at least a few minutes longer. I couldn't eat most of them because they were almost completely raw and raw white onion gives me instantaneous heart burn that last hours. Other than that, this dish is stellar. Bravo, Red Top! Although my husband enjoyed his dish (Beef Bun/Vermicilli) we didn't exactly love it. I found the sauce to be heavy-handed on the fish sauce and the spring rolls aren't crunchy enough. Miss Saigon (on US-1 in Miami) really set the bar high for my Bún bowls. :/ We'll be back again and again. I'm sure of it. There are at least 10 other things we want to try here. read more

Red Top Kitchen is located in an unassuming plaza but they serve a mean pho! I've ordered their seafood pho to-go several times, and I love how thoughtfully they pack their to-go orders. All the raw toppings come in a separate bag (basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, lime, and jalapeno), and they always include the chili sauce and hoisin sauce packets as well. The seafood is varied and though it's not as generous of a portion as I would like, it's decent for the price. The noodles (you can choose regular or large portion) is packed separately from the broth, which is one of the best pho broths I've had. My family all got the red top special and they really liked it. It doesn't come with the meatballs and to add it costs an additional $2 I believe which is a bit pricey for the amount they give. Service was okay and could be better and you can tell it's a small family business business. What impressed me was the herbs and bean sprouts and how fresh they looked. Definitely try out their Shaken Beef Platter also known as the bò lúc lac. The pho bowl is superb too because the beef broth is amazingly well made. I did not mean to exaggerate, but this place has the best broth for pho that I have ever had. Also, keep in mind that the chicken breast pho only comes with beef broth (not chicken broth) and the type of meat is chicken breast. If anyone is looking for a vegetarian option, the choices are limited, but they do have them. You can order the veggie eggrolls, or fried rice, fried rice noodle, crispy or soft egg noodle with vegetable instead. Watch out for the Pho Veggies combo #12 because it has beef broth, and therefore it is not suitable for vegetarians. The drinks are of variety too with all kinds of fruit flavors. A signature drink of this place is the Thai Iced tea. Also, I recommend everyone to get boba with your drink. Other than that, they have soft drinks, smoothies, milk tea, hot tea, flavored juice, lemonade, orange juice and et cetera. Water with lemon is free of charge, of course. Some other suggested dishes are the Pad Thai (weird right, why does a Vietnamese restaurant serve this?!), spring rolls made with shrimp, pork and lettuce, egg rolls made with pork and a mixture of vegetables, popcorn chicken, French Fries (dayum! the French Fries here is even better than Wendy's), Pho Dac Biet - Red Top Special #1, also the new dish: pho fillet which doesn't show up on the menu. read more
