Redd is one of the best upscale American restaurants in Rochester if not the best. The Chef, Richard Reddington, has put together an inspired menu in this downtown restaurant. Tucked behind the Little Theater, there is plenty of parking. In the good weather months, outdoor dining is available. You should reserve early if you want to request outdoor seating. The Spring Menu offerings are divided into Starters, Wood Fired and Mains. The "Spring" menu suggests that the menu varies with the seasons. The Starters were large enough to be shared by two. We had the Pork Belly and the Chopped Salad. The pork belly was cooked perfectly, a little crispy with a decadent glaze. The salad, perfectly seasoned. The Duck leg confit was served on a bed of "fried farro" with Enoki Mushrooms, shallots, and a pea puree. The skin of the duck was crispy, and the seasoning was excellent. The desserts were equally delicious. We shared a custard tart and a chocolate pate. We both liked the tart the best but ate every bite of the chocolate. Went to Redds for mom and dads 63rd anniversary and it was a real treat. Outdoor seating was very pleasant and our service was benchmark. Always there to refill water glasses, ask if we needed anything and even brought us a treat from the kitchen. When you enter Redd, you walk into a beautifully modern open space with a sophisticated and classy bar to the left and both tables and booths to your right. It's decorated with gastronomy books from across the world, which is translated directly into the menu filled with a variety of Asian, Italian, and American infused cuisine. The specialty pizzas are so uniquely delicious they are unlike any pizza you've tried before! The combination of toppings blended with the cheese and varied sauces and will make you savor every last piece (not to mention the pizza crust!). My personal favorite was the mushroom pizza but my friends argued for the brussel sprouts pizza and the prosciutto pizza! We also had the pleasure of trying the pork belly, tuna tartar, scallops, wings, and chicken Cesar salad. The pork belly is (and I reiterate other comments here) a MUST HAVE. So so melt in your mouth delicious. Shout out to the tuna tartar, scallops and wings as they were all also so good that you really can't go wrong. Finally, the atmosphere really brought the whole dining experience together. The restaurant owner and the General Manager even introduced themselves and asked how our food was in between also delivering food to a variety of tables which we thought was really cool! Wow, many seem to feel this is a 4-5 Star place, definitely not me! It was Tuesday, we had a 6:30 reservation for four people. Came in on time and saw 2 TWO empty center booths available. Asked for one. The hostess, said she was not sure if a big group was coming. I said I see two vacant booths. It took awhile, many many many minutes we did get the booth. Bad first impression. By the way, the restaurant was never more then 60% filled. We ordered pizza's, tempura shrimp, fried wings to start with. OUTSTANDING! You can not complain about these specific items. I have had great wings, I have had great tempura. for me to go to 4+ I need better then average service, decoration can help. Maybe people see a positive vibe when this place is busy. What we saw was a cool semi filled room with service which was if anything less then capable. Example, forget about about the booth we asked for. After we received the bill, we asked to put some food saved, the waitress happily agreed. It then took quite awhile to complete the payment. I'd say go in with an open mind- I ordered a dish with curry, but it was unlike any curry I'd had in the past. Delightfully flavorful and warm. And we ordered the pork belly appetizer that was deliciously decadent. For dessert we sampled the butterscotch one and the blondie. Both yummy. I've been dying to give this place a try. Somehow my friend called and was able to get us an 8:00 reservation on a Saturday night! The people sitting next to us had made their reservation 2 months prior! It's worth it to give the restaurant a call to check it out! They said to arrive early, we did and we got seated at about 7:40! The hostesses were very friendly. When they sat us though, we didn't get any menus and no one said a thing to us. My friend and I sat and looked around wondering where the menus were and a few minutes later they finally brought them. They also seemed to have a shortage of drink menus. They recently got new fall menus and definitely didn't print enough of them. Here's what we had: Purple Rain cocktail-one of the best cocktails I've ever had. It was so difficult!! If you like grape flavor and St. Germaine's, I highly recommend this. No one flavor overpowered this drink and it was fantastic! Lobster risotto-good, but not outstanding to me. It seemed to be lacking in the seasoning department. Ours looked different than the pictures on here. It seemed like there was something missing. The pictures appeared to have a reddish seasoning sprinkled on top, ours didn't. We asked for salt and it tasted much better. Pork Belly-awesome! So much flavor and so tender!!! Sliced for sharing. 4 friends and I went to dinner on a Monday night with a reservation. Upon walking in, the place is pretty! Open concept with a long bar to the left with the kitchen at the end, a row of booths, and then a ton of tables. Clean and new looking. We began by ordering drinks. The one cocktail that my friend and I wanted was unavailable at the moment. The server did not expand on why, she just said it was unavailable. I didn't get any drinks, and my friend ordered something else. Next, we ordered all of our food. My 4 friends shared a bunch of appetizers and entrees. I got a pizza all to myself! They seemed to enjoy the food to a certain extent. I remember comments on lack of flavor for a few dishes. As a vegan, they offered two options. One was the tomato pizza, another was a hummus and roasted veggie dish. The hummus dish was way overpriced for a pile of veggies. The pizza was overpriced ($14) as well for how simple it was, but they did not charge me for the extra eggplant and kale I added, so that was appreciated. The chef offered to put shaved squash on it as well, but the pizza came without it. The pizza had good flavor, but wasn't filling at all. The service was great at the beginning. My sister ordered sparkling water (which is $7!) and had to remind them twice to bring it. The apps came quick, but the entrees took some time. The food runner was extremely awkward as well. When we were ready to go, the bill took a while to come. Also, my friend asked if she could order a meal to-go, and the server explained that to-go food is only available when the chef feels like doing it. So what would have happened if I didn't finish my pizza? Would I have been able to take it home? Weird. I've wanted to try this place since it opened and finally had the chance to do so. A friend and I came on Friday and despite not having a reservation and the place being packed, we were seated immediately. The hostess was super accommodating. I loved the openness of the space and definitely didn't feel like I was in Rochester. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to provide great recommendations. We started with wine and the pork belly. They have an extensive wine list but those offered by the glass didn't blow me away, especially for the price. The pork belly was crispy and melted in your mouth. I opted for the mushroom pizza and my friend got the chicken. We had wanted the pasta but had sold out by the time we got there. Both were delicious but it was a little richer than I'd prefer with almost non existent pieces of pancetta. We ended with the blondie and while tasty, wasn't anything special, and a little dry. Again, I didn't feel like the prices matched what we were getting. The service was inconsistent. As much as we liked our server, I had to ask for another glass of wine and for the menu. This review has been sitting in my draft folder for months because I'm a procrastinator and because I want to make sure I convey how good this place is. While in town from the West Coast some months ago, I had one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life at Redd. I was with five of my family members. We ordered a ton because we like to eat, and we like to taste everything. It was all delicious: the lobster risotto, the delicata squash, the halibut. The scallops were the best I've ever had. I was so full after all that sampling, but still I managed a bite of the almond pineapple cake and the butterscotch pot de creme. I'm not a huge dessert person, but both were phenomenal. The atmosphere is lovely, cozy, and hip. The service was so friendly and attentive, and they helped us to pick out the best wines to complement our meals. Checked out Redd with a couple of friends for a girls night out. Great first impression with the outdoor seating, interior decoration, and mid century modern furniture. There is a big wine list for those who love wine. I went with a cocktail, thumbs for to the bartender for a generous amount of alcohol. For my entree, I got the prosciutto pizza which was delicious as I love how chewy the dough is and the arugula on top is fresh. The rest of party got/loved the mushroom pizza and grilled veggie on hummus. Reason why I didn't give this place a four or five star rating- The waitress told us that the hamachi collar is one of the special, thought never informing us there were only limited portions. It was sold out by the time I ordered. Big disappointment since I was really looking forward to it. My rating of this place would be 3.5 stars. Maybe it was all the hype but I have to say I wasn't blown away by the experience. The restaurant ambience I definitely liked, loved all the decor and cozy seating. If I were to come back, I would come to the bar for sure. We ordered their rose wine by the glass and an apple cider for my husband which I can't remember the name off the top of my head but it was fabulous. For an appetizer, we had the shrimp tempura and that was probably what we thought as the best part of our meal. The shrimp were huge, perfectly battered and nice and flaky. For entrees, I ordered the mushroom pizza and REDD wings and my husband had the halibut with the clams and jasmine rice in curry sauce. I enjoyed the black garlic sauce on the pizza and the flavor of the mushrooms but I would have to say I have had better wood fired pizza. There is something I find hard with wood fired pizza is the difference between the charred taste and burnt taste and I have to say, my pizza tasted a tad bit burnt in some parts and I have a thing with the crust having some burnt circles as you will see from the pic. The chicken wings were nicely battered but didn't care so much for the sriracha sauce with sesame. My husband's halibut was very fresh but we weren't too fond of their curry sauce. In terms of service, it seemed decent but with the amount of extra serving staff they did have, I was surprised I had to remind one of them to fill our glasses of water. I feel with this type of dining experience, it should be expected. Hi there! Let me just say anytime I am in Rochester, I will make sure to have dinner at Redd. WOW! seriously, WOW! I was in town for work when a friend suggested we come to Redd's for dinner. We had reservations, arrived early and just sat at the bar for a few drinks before dinner. The drink menu was full of traditional cocktails as well as specialty drinks. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. It did take a while to have our table ready but we were enjoying our time and didnt mind. Once we were seated we noticed how large of a party there was. With the holidays and knowing how good this place is, it makes sense its packed. Our waiter suggested we place all of our order at once and they stagger our apps and entrees. Good thing he made this suggestion as it did take quiet a while to get our meals. For apps we ordered the ahi tuna, lobster risotto, and arugula with prosciutto pizza. Ahi tuna 10/10, lobster risotto 4/10, arugula pizzza 9/10. Both the ahi tuna and pizza were out of this world. fresh, full of flavor, and prepared well. The lobster risotto was lacking. It was missing flavor. Def not something I would order here. While we were waiting, the chef sent out gnocchi with sausage and a tomato pie. Thank you, Chef! Both dishes were amazing. The gnocchi with sausage was literally out of this world. As someone who doesn't even like sausage I would come here just for this dish. For our entrees we had a variety of things. I ordered the scallops, while my friends ordered Pasta Bolognese and the steak. everyone raved about their entrees. My scallops were cooked perfectly. The plating was beautifully done. Upscale, modern looking restaurant with a non-traditional, though somewhat limited, menu that adventurous diners should enjoy. Attention to detail is important. Indoor and outdoor dining where conversations are better heard outside. Parking lot is convenient but 99% full on my recent visit so plan on arriving a bit early to circle and find a space. Waiter was very attentive and informative, but the complexity of some dishes may have tested his memory and meant that some ingredients weren't disclosed leaving an unpleasant surprise or two (we are not big onion fans and found too many in a couple of dishes)...hence one contributor to 4 stars not 5. My dining companion loved her tuna tartare appetizer. My favorites were the rigatoni Bolognese (generous and tasty portion) and the chicken wings we were comped...in fact, they may have been the best I've ever had and, sorry Upstate New Yorkers, could only be improved if they were tenders instead of wings. Their Thai chili glaze was absolute perfection. Be aware that the chef here likes his various peppers in a number of dishes (and I do too but not everyone else does.) While I am a corn chowder lover, it didn't work for me as a pizza (special that night) so I will be trying the bee-sting pizza next time that I'm up from Miami if it stays on the menu. A few people got cocktails and 3 of us shared a bottle of the Guy Breton Gamay - one of the best red wines I have had. It was so light, floral, and velvety, a perfect pairing- highly recommend! They also offered tap, still, and Saratoga sparkling water (my favorite sparkling water). Our table ordered several appetizers: PEI oysters - they were so fresh and the champagne mignonette was perfect; bibb salad - the carrot ginger vinaigrette and za'atar seasoning made the salad refreshing and satisfying; glazed pork belly - the soy caramel was a little too salty for my taste, but the dish was still delicious; and the smoked trout - soo good! For dinner, I had the halibut. The fish was so tender and my favorite part of the meal was the romesco sauce, the tomato and roasted red pepper were so vibrant! Others ordered the duck leg confit, and scallops, all were excellent. We got a side of roasted fingerling "poutine" - I could have eaten this as a meal! Lastly, we split 2 desserts: an almond pineapple cake (my favorite of the 3); strawberries and cream - fresh strawberries, cream, strawberry sorbet and granola; and a chocolate pâté that came with a scoop of mango sorbet - I love mango, but did not like it with the chocolate, I also didn't like the dried raisins in the sauce drizzled around. Visited here Sunday Mar 15th. This was before the mandate for restaurants to not have a dine in option. REDD rochester is offering takeout during these times and I look at their instagram @reddrochester for any updates! Anyways the atmosphere of the place was gorgeous and had an industrial classy moderny feel! I came here for their brunch and never in a million years could I have guessed this would be my last brunch before the NYS mandate. I can't wait til REDD opens again so people can enjoy this atmosphere/aesthetic and food! They have a parking lot so don't worry about street parking! The signage of the restaurant on the outside is a bit confusing and I didn't really know if the restaurant was open or not since i'm used to bigger signs saying the name of the restaurant on the outside, but then again it's probably the aesthetic and i'm just blind! Now on to the food! I got the huevos rancheros and a side of bacon. Huevos rancheros exceeded my expectations and I loved that it came with the little crunchies! Not going to lie the bacon honestly was my favorite, so much bacon for $8 and by far the best bacon I have tasted in rochester. If I had an endless supply of this bacon all day long, I would die happily of cardiac arrest! We went to REDD last night for their Rochester Cocktail Revival Night. When we went in we were expecting to see alternative menus but they had menus printed just for this event. Their cocktails were crafted to reflect items on their menu which I loved. I got a sake drink which was phenomenal. The venue was very nice inside, very clean and modern. Wow! The food here is phenomenal. Can't wait to go back. This is easily one of the top 5 places I've ever been. I got the roasted cauliflower. The flavor was on point. The crunchiness and searing on the cauliflower was amazing. And the harissa was a perfect complement to the dish. Wish there were more. Bartender was very professional and knowledgeable. Excellent service, so so food, exorbitant pricing, and ridiculous 3% surcharge for using a debit or credit card. We were a party of four, at Redd after a recommendation from a friend and while the service and server were attentive and excellent, our food took an extraordinary long time, was only so so (and partly undercooked), and exceptionally pricey. We ordered a few pizzas which were okay overall, but given the very long time the food took to arrive and the pricing, were nothing to write home about. However, we were most disappointed with our entrees. One member of our party ordered a chicken dish which was bland and under seasoned, came with undercooked veggies, and, given that it cost $30 and took so long to arrive was an enormous disappointment. A bright spot however was definitely the service. Our waitress was attentive (empty dishes were cleared quickly and our water glasses were always filled), apologetic about the food delays, and a pleasure to deal with. Finally, we were most perturbed by the 3% surcharge for paying with any credit or debit card (the debit card part is especially surprising as debit cards have significantly lower payment fees than credit cards). This surcharge is only disclosed in extremely small font at the bottom of the menu with standard "meat/seafood cooked to order" food safety warnings and then in small print on the receipt. In addition to being positioned such that many diners will not see it, in light of the coronavirus pandemic it is exceptionally concerning to be encouraged to use a payment method that can transmit disease. For the extremely high pricing and mediocre food, being required to pay extra to pay in a hygienic and convenient way is simply unacceptable. Overall my meal at Redd was nothing special and entirely forgettable. While the service was great and ordinarily a so-so meal would not result in a one star review, given the high pricing, bland foods, and ridiculous payment surcharge, I expect more and definitely will not be back. read more

Ask to get a booth when you make reservations...they should take that door table out of there & we weren't even warned about that when we made the reservation. Had a great time at REDD but a 5 star evening dropped a star. Great food, great drinks, great service, but noticed a credit card surcharge of 3% on the bill. I have never seen this in Rochester before because it is in violation of NYS law prohibiting credit card surcharges. https://www.dos.ny.gov/press/2020/consumer12-8.html I would think that in time of COVID, very few people use cash. The drink menu is wonderful, including zero proof if you're not up for an alcoholic cocktail, and the food choices are exceptional. We started with the gnocchi appetizer which was extraordinarily flavorful and the gnocchi are cooked to pillowy soft perfection. My steak was cooked just right and was so ample that I ended up giving half of it to my husband because even he thought it was outstanding. The only time we've had a problem was when it came time for our reservation the previous customers hadn't finished yet. We had to wait about 5-10 mins while the host figured out where to move those people to so that we could sit down. Overall the host and hostess handled it well. The food is fantastic! Last time I had the scallops, haven't had scallops in a while and it was amazing. Would order them again in a heartbeat. My girlfriend can't get enough of the chopped salad and gnocchi cacio e pepe, she orders it every time we go. If you're going to REDD, make reservations a couple weeks ahead of time, they fill up very quickly! read more

This restaurant is Michelin starred. This chef really cares. The food is consistently amazing. The Pinot noir was stellar. The tuna tar tar melted in your mouth w/ notes of fresh herbs. The fluke was extremely tender & flavorful. The butterscotch custard was out of the world. Each time I go to this restaurant , I'm wow'd again & again ! Nice job chef !!! read more

This was seriously the best meal we had while in Rochester! Not only is the interior absolutely gorgeous, the waitstaff are also very knowledgeable and give great recommendations, and their food is top notch. The smoked trout crostini was my favorite dish. We were so looking forward to dining at REDD and we were so disappointed and will not be returning. We had a reservation at 6:30 on a Saturday night, we opted to eat outside being that it was a nice summer night. Scott was our server, his personality needs some work. We order drinks, wine, martini and sangria which seemed to be forever to get the martini's. Once we got our drinks the martini's had a soapy taste (keep in mind we drink plenty of martini's and know what they should taste like especially an extra dry martini) when we tell Scott he looks at us like we have 10 heads! Finally we get our drinks. We left there at 9:30PM and had 2 drinks only in a span of 3 hours, we would have ordered wine or an after dinner drink but it took so long we just waited for the bill. We had 5 different people at our table for all different reasons, but no one could seem to bring us a drink. The food was very tasty, but the service not great! Do Better REDD you are in a prime location in the City, however there are many restaurants that are far better. read more

Delicious meal! Great service. A complimentary ceviche amuse bouche from the chef that needs to be on the menu! I'll be back and recommend it to friends. I'd like to go when the weather is warm and eat outside. I'm sure it'll be inspiring. Our waiter was excellent. Critique: bring individual plates with the appetizer, let the diners have more time to decide, offer to remove coats if desired, put prices on specials or tell the price if not on the printed card. All these things happened but we had to ask. The coat room wasn't apparent at the entrance. The hostess kindly retrieved our wraps and refused a tip. I did appreciate a card with most of the specials on it so we could refresh our memories. I loved the adventurous menu. Don't miss this place. read more
