What an incredible surprise both in term of the food and the spot today! Our first time visiting the area, lucky we found out about it, and even though a bit away, it was worth the drive. The place is very nice, everyone from the front of the house , the servers and I would guess either the owner or manager were super attentive and nice. The place was jam packed, we were lucky to found a spot at the bar which was perfect and without wait. It was an incredible happy atmosphere, such a great experience overall! Food was really good, amazing cheese grits and the biscuit was just to die for! Wowza!!!! Redhead Bay Cafe lived up to the hype! The Bloody Mary was perfect. Not too spicy, not too bland. The garnishes were tasty and not too over the top. We tried the loaded tots, stuffed French toast, sh crab Benedict, and Sunday Chicken Sandwich. The tots were a great starter. They were covered in scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, and bacon. Everyone loved them and they were very shareable. The She Crab Benedict was a special and was so delicious. A great spin on a classic dish. The biscuit it was served on was amazing too. The Sunday chicken sandwich also did not disappoint. The fried chicken was so well cooked. It might have been my favorite dish, but it's so hard to choose! Everyone throughly enjoyed all the food. We did come at peak brunch time and expected a wait. We were told 45-50 minutes. At the bar, we waited 15 minutes just for a drink. We were not seated for 2 hours. When we kept checking in, the hostesses were arguing with each other because one of them was seating people wrongly, told us there was no manager on duty , and they had no silverware. The waitress did her best and tried to get our food out, but even that took a long time. I would not likely come back. read more

First time here and although it's a bit of a drive into Pungo... it was well worth it! Will definitely be coming back! One of the main things I look for at places for breakfast or brunch are lattes... and luckily they have some pretty good looking and tasting lattes! I kept it simple this time with a caramel machiatto but it didn't disappoint. The portions are very filling in my opinion. I think my eyes may have been a bit bigger than my stomach this time around but everything just looked so good I wanted to try it all. After looking for a new breakfast place to try, we stumbled across this place. So we tried it the morning of Thursday 12/19/19. It was just my wife and myself. We tried the fried green tomatoes, I'll tell you this was fantastic. I've never had this before, and I was happy that I tried it. My wife ordered a hot chocolate, while it tasted really good, you can tell from the picture that the hot chocolate was mostly whipped cream. Normally I wouldn't be upset about that, but when you pay $3.00 for it plus the extra .30 cents for whipped cream, and it's mainly whipped cream, you tent to be a little ehh about it. On to the main course, I ordered the Big Cedar, and my wife ordered the Shrimp and Grits. The Shrimp and Grits was delicious, no issues with that, as far as the Big Cedar, while it looked good it could use some work. The pancakes were bland, I guess when they say plain they meant it. The biscuit was a disappointment, while it looked good and big, it was pretty dry. The eggs, bacon, and sausage was good. The home fries needed to be cooked a little longer, because they were still soft and covered in oil, they were flavored very well, and I'm sure once I put the left overs in my air fryer it'll be great. The tots were good. Now on to the service, she was alone and started off good. There was only us and another three person table. Once a couple other tables came in she was lost. Seemed overwhelmed. Forgot simple things like ketchup, utensils, and butter. They need to work on that. The restaurant was very clean. WOW!!! What a pleasant surprise. It is the only restaurant in the area within 11 miles. We were driving around checking out the area, got hungry, so stopped in to get a quick bite as soon as we a cafe was open. TLDR: average food, terrible hostess, too far to drive and wait for a mediocre experience. We wanted to try something new for brunch. This seemed promising. We drove by Bee and Biscuit (busy as usual) and kept driving. 15 minutes later we arrived at a commercial-looking shop/barn decorated like a wedding venue. We were optimistic and went to check in. The hostess was unfriendly - bad first impression. She took our name and informed us that it was an hour wait and that they only serve alcoholic beverages while we wait. Our small party included a child and people who weren't drinking so this already felt strange and alienating. We can always get coffee and oj at the Bee and Biscuit and that makes it part of the experience. We waited for an hour and were seated. At this point the hostess was outright bitchy. It was so strange to us because her one job is to be the face of the restaurant and offer basic customer service (smile and be friendly or quit). Our server was fine and the food eventually arrived. It was adequate which is the one star, but absolutely nothing special. We left saying we should've gone to Bee and Biscuit because the extra drive time would've balanced out the wait and we would've been enjoying drinks and games and fire pits/heat lamps while we waited. A note to the owners-- the dining experience does not currently flow. The hostess is rude, the bartender is not particularly friendly (compare this to the great vibes of all of the bartenders at your biggest competitor up the road), and you wander around or awkwardly sit overlooking a drainage ditch and gas station and there's no reason why anyone from parts north would return. I was eyeing every platter that was brought out. We visited on a Sunday and they were very busy, but snagged a seat at the bar without a wait. On Sundays the parking lot is valet only, so to save a few bucks park across the street in self-parking. A hidden gem that I wish every small town had! 1) The service from the time that you pull into the parking lot is incredible. (All cars must valet.) 2) The cutest outdoor patio/waiting area/bar. 3) The service from the outdoor bartender was excellent. I was going to order an orange crush and she offered the drink special of the day, a pineapple crush and it was amazing! 4) Our waiter, Jesse, was also equally amazing. I've attended this lovely place for brunch and I gotta say...I was impressed. We were quoted 45 minutes for a table, and we were seated in 20. While we waited, we walked all the way to the back bar to get drinks. I got a man-mosa and my gf did the same. We went outside to enjoy the fresh air and before you know it, we were seated outside. The best place in the middle of nowhere! Located in a small shopping center in Creeds with only 17 tables, they never thought they would be so popular. Be prepared for a small wait but they make it very comfortable with an outdoor bar, bench seats, and games, as well as a small shop next door to browse around. Server was so great and polite however, our order did get lost so we had to wait longer but she was so nice about it that it didn't even matter. This place is another of the unique brunch restaurants in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach. It has a home style country atmosphere as it is surrounded by the woods and farms of the area. We visited on a Monday with our family when it's less busy compared to the weekends. We tried to go on a weekend but the parking lot was packed and it was a 1.5-2 hour wait FYI. We had a large group so we asked for the picnic tables outside which was a plus. They have indoor and porch seating along with outside tables. We were seated by our friendly waitress and ordered our food promptly. We got the Breakfast BLT with home style potatoes and the Sunday Chicken Sandwich with fruit. We ordered the Almond Joy signature coffee as well but they are very expensive. $9 for a glass of coffee seems too much even though it was tasty. The food came out fairly quickly and hot and fresh. The chicken sandwich was just okay and slightly dry. My Breakfast BLT came without bacon. I guess the B stood for Bread . The waitress made it right by giving me a side of extra bacon for it. The cilantro lime ranch drizzle was a hit and the scrambled eggs was scrumptious as well. A BLT sandwich without bacon was kinda funny though. I would give this place 3.5 Stars if I could. From the Campfire Latte to the Country Boy meal and well let's not forget the Sunday Chicken Sandwich, you literally can not go wrong with any of them!! The food is AMAZING!! I'm thankful my daughter shared this place with me!! I love sitting at the picnic tables outside!! The large overflow building can get a little loud and the chairs although perfect for a wedding venue well the chairs could be a little more sturdier. The only downfall is not having a dedicated bartender, at least when I have been, so the wait staff is having to pull double duty. We visited this establishment at the recommendation of others. First, they require valet parking when there is a sufficient amount of parking space. Strike one. The hostess had to be tracked down so we could get our name on the list for a table and she was rude. Strike 2. It took 10 minutes for our server to come to the table and 20 minutes to get coffee. We soon found out that our server was also the one tending the bar which explained the long wait. I don't think that the bartender should be the server for a table when there is a busy bar. The menu seemed great, however, the food was horrible. I could only take a few bites because it was so bad. Our server didn't come back by for quite a while. The server never asked about why we barely touched our food but offered to go boxes. Strike 3. Last, but certainly not least, we got sick within an hour and half of getting home. Needless to say we will not be going back there. Additionally, the owner visited and stopped by every table to chat except ours. I don't see how they retain business or perhaps others just don't have standards. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. read more

Drove to Pungo for brunch this morning. Went the back way down Indian river road. Was a beautiful drive over the inter-coastal waterway. There was not wait and we sat right away. My friend suggested we meet here for brunch. I thought it was kind of a far drive, but man was it worth it. First of all, the place is beautiful! Imagine a brewery and brunch restaurant together. Although I know this isn't a brewery, it has the same vibe. There's green grass everywhere, beautiful picnic benches outside, beautiful decor inside. It's a warm and southern kind of place. Way too cute. There's also valet parking so you don't have to worry about finding a space! The drinks are strong, although sort of pricey.. The drinks have silly descriptions on the menu as well LOL. For brunch, I had the breakfast BLT and asked for my egg to be cooked over easy rather than scrambled. It was delicious. TONS of bacon... all the veggies were fresh and the egg was perfectly cooked. what a lovely gem out in pungo!! my girlfriends and i came for a weekday brunch, and we were not disappointed! we all started with mimosas-orange, cranberry, and blood orange. they were wonderful-plenty of champagne, not all juice. i got a HUGE bacon, fried green tomato, lettuce, and avocado sandwich. it was outstanding-bacon was cooked to crispy perfection ; the tomatoes were so flavorful. my girlfriends got avocado toast; one got mediterranean, the other classic. those dishes were also plentiful and flavorful. we all got cheese grits which may had been the best thing on the table! we think they have had old bay???? highly recommend this hidden gem. read more

Took my daughter and her best friend here from lunch one afternoon last week. The service and atmosphere was great. We called ahead to see if they were pet friendly and the staff said they loved dogs and welcomed them as long as they and the owners behaved lol. It was hot as heck that day so they brought our pups a bowl of water. The menu is original and offers everything from açaí yogurt bowls to chicken and waffles. The coffee and mixed drink selection was nice as well. Hello you wonderful brunch spot in the boonies of Virginia Beach, you! Going up high on the list of brunch places that I recommend to people visiting, or just asking me about good spots as a foodie in general. A very high 4, rounding up to 5 stars. It's a straight shot down Upton Drive, if you're coming from the Red Mill area. You just go down that road for a long while, and it will be on your right. Parking was abundant, and from the parking lot, you can see the outdoor seating and benches. We opted for indoor seating because...heat. Lol. The inside is pretty, I love the wall with plants, and there's a bar/barista area, a few booths, and tables. We sat near the window, closer to the bar area. For drinks, Hubby chose the Americano with Hazelnut flavor, and I chose the S'mores Latte (Iced) - it was $8, but so beautiful and tasty! See pics, definitely a great one from the 'gram. (Instagram). The drink itself wasn't overly sweet; it was balanced and sweetened with the whipped cream and toasted marshmallows on top. FOOD - they serve southern food/brunch food/ and lunch. On the breakfast side of the menu - 3 variations of Avocado Toast, 3 types of Benedicts (I almost got the Blackfin one,) a breakfast sandwich, Omelettes, Pancakes, and a good amount of different Breakfast Platters (French Toast, Biscuits and Gravy, Shrimp and Grits, Chicken and Waffles, etc.) They also have lunch items - sandwiches, a burrito, and a lettuce wraps option. They also have soups and salad, and of course a la carte/side options. What did we get? Hubby chose the Shrimp and Grits (Stone ground cheddar grits topped with 6 jumbo shrimp, bacon, and green onion in a tomato cream sauce (I LOVED the hint of tomato.) It was delicious! I had a few bites but wanted more. He also added 2 poached eggs to his meal. I chose the Chicken and Waffles, and O M G - not lying when I say its the best I've had. And I've had a good amount of this dish from so many places and a handful of states. They use POUND CAKE batter to make these Belgian Waffles - so flavorful but light and airy at the same time. Not dense like some waffles. The chicken, goodness - seasoned and fried to perfection. It comes with honey and any other sauce of your choice. I asked for Ranch for my chicken and was asked if I'd like Sriracha Ranch or Cilantro Lime Ranch. I chose the latter. Every bite of my dish was amazing. I could have finished it but tried to (and did) save some for later. Prices are fair and average for a brunch spot. Total for our meals, 2 drinks and tax was about $42 without tip. Everything was so very delicious, I can't say that enough. Service was also amazing! The only thing I felt very iffy about was that there were a lot of people dining inside, numbers wise. Everything was amazing. The s'mores latte and all the different mimosas we tried were amazing. The food was spectacular. We got the cold plate platter and the chicken salad was so good. Our server was so nice! I wish I remembered her name because she was so great! I will update when I go back if I can. We had someone with a gluten allergy and she made sure to tell the kitchen and they were happy to give separate plates for the platter and take all the precautions. The crab Benedict was so good and my friend said her pancake (I think she got butter pecan) was the best pancake she's ever had! We went for Sunday brunch. A cup of she-crab soup to start us off. Delicious, creamy, thick, nice chunks of crab throughout. I started with a Spitfire bloody mary. Woo! That's how a bloody should taste. I ordered two more throughout the meal. Peperoncini, tomato, and mozerella on a skewer and crisp bacon in the drink. Nice and spicy. No cheap vodka aftertaste. Just plain tasty. My wife had an irish coffee. It was large and also very good. For main courses we had a shorty of strawberry pancakes, the breakfast BLT, and the little cedar. The pancakes were fluffy with a lightly crunchy edges, strawberries in the batter and on top. The BLT was enormous. Just packed with stuff. Bacon, eggs, avo, bacon, lettuce, thick tomato slices, bacon, and a delicious light sauce. The cheese grits was also fantastic. Thick cut grits, definitely not the instant stuff that comes in packets at the store. My wife said the Little Cedar was also very good. The service was great. Used to come here regularly because wait was less than Bee and the Biscuit (which is closer to oceanfront -- RHBC is a good 35 minutes from oceanfront). But today they lost my business for good. We come out there and they quote us a 1.5 hour wait after valet parks our car, etc. We leave but notice that the restaurant is maybe 1/4 full. But the restaurant that doesn't take reservations claims they have a large party coming in and are understaffed (because teenagers are at homecoming). Won't be back. read more
