My wife and I saw this restaurant on Check Please and it looked so good that we made plans to visit it the next day, Sunday 2/23/20. The place was packed but the service was very timely. My first bite into the double cheeseburger had me hooked! It was juicy and tasty. My mouth is watering from remembering it. The fries are hand cut and delicious and come with the burger. The price was so low for such a great burger and fries. It turns out that many people saw Check Please and decided to try out the Red Hot Ranch. We sat at a four-top and an older lady asked if she could join us. Sure, why not? We ended up talking to her for 45 minutes. She was very friendly, as were all the patrons. We fell in love with the restaurant. We live 6 blocks away and I can't wait to go back! The food is wonderful and the prices are low. The staff is friendly and the service was perfect. read more

Finally stopped in after driving past this place on Ashland so many times. No frills, small menu, good standard food. Great value. Their fried shrimp is surprisingly quite good and I would definitely return for that. Burgers were solid, as were their fries - fresh and hot. This place is THE BOMB for late night eats. More specifically... if you are hungry as hell and it's 4am or 5am... because Chicago definitely has a scarcity for late night eats... even on the weekends. But rest assured.. Red Hot Ranch is here for you! I don't really eat in here OFTEN... I definitely have eaten in here once or twice (simply couldn't wait) but normally we just order it to go and eat it in the car or something (it rarely makes it home). First off, their fried shrimp is simply delicious. It's simply done, but when it says jumbo shrimp.. it is jumbo shrimp. Never too greasy and always on point - definitely a perfect late night app. Also, they provide you with a spicy or just standard cocktail sauce (yay). Secondly, THE BURGER. Typically, I get the triple (they are very thin patties) but only use 1 piece of cheese. The red hot ranch sauce they put on it is awesome but I have gotten it without the sauce and extra lettuce and it's honestly good either way. I'll start by saying that I can count on one hand the number of hamburgers I've had in the last five years. My husband, on the other hand, has had that many hamburgers in the first three months of this year alone. So you understand that he's more of a connoisseur than I am. I liked the cheeseburger with the RHR sauce. I thought it was tasty and not too large (b/c I don't like the really big fat burgers). However, I did not care for the fries as they were overdone. A friend recommended this place. It was a small fast food but it was clean inside. They only have a few selection in their menu but the prices are amazingly cheap. The cashier is friendly and I just order the regular red hot ranch with fries. They only have a few tables and chairs inside. Not too long of waiting, the food was ready. The burger looks good, it has a nice portion and has a lot of veggies. It is not greasy which is a good thing. First bite and wow! The burger taste so good. It was juicy and the flavorful. I tried this for the first time. I wasn't overly impressed. The workers were all nice. I got a double red hot ranch burger with fries and split half a pound of shrimp with my friend. The fries were a little cold and under salted. The burger was fresh and tasted good but was a little under seasoned as well. The shrimp were a little really big but a little fishy tasting to me but I'm pretty sensitive to fishy tasting foods. Overall, the food was decent but I wouldn't be in a hurry to go again. read more

This is pretty much the perfect thin n' crispy style burger to be found in the Chicago area. The fries are excellent as well, but I don't think they would survive much of a journey, so unless you live in the neighborhood, I'd say eat them here. I will say this, though. Toppings are fresh, and the fresh-cut fries are cooked crisp to order with a nice, deep potato flavor. Hot dogs are good, too, but I go for the hamburger. The "chocolate shake", if that's what you want to call it, was soft serve ice cream in a cup with a ring of chocolate around it. After a not so bueno lunch, I was really hungry and craving a burger. As a Chicago implant from California, nothing would have satisfied better than a double double, extra lettuce, grilled and raw onions, extra toasted from In & Out. After reading the reviews, I was really super excited to try this place, even making a short snapshot vlog to exclaim my excitement. After looking at the menu and noticing everything was "XXX & fries" - I ordered a cheeseburger and asked if there was an option without fries. Cashier told me Yeah but it's only 50 cents less. So basically, I paid 50 cents for the fries that I didn't even want because it was only 50 dang cents.. super cheap. For $4.50 for a cheeseburger with fries, this was super cheap. But for what it was, the price justified it. The cheeseburger itself was fairly small and I felt like I could have finished it in a few big bites. The patty itself was super freaking thin, like it wasn't more than 2cms worth of length. This was probably the most disappointing part of the burger. I'd come back to try the double cheeseburger to give it another chance. Things to note: Cash only! Red Hot Ranch (RHR), along w Al's Beef (various locations) has the best French Fries. They're great because they are not made from commercial frozen fries. If you know good food, you know the difference between these French Fries and the more common junk. You can taste the potatoes texture inside the wonderful crunchy golden fried outer layer. Al's Beef has recently reduced the amount of fries, while Red Hot Ranch (RHR) gives you a lot of fries along with your order of Hot Dogs, or Smashed Burgers. I especially love the Double Hot Dogs, which in my opinion are probably the best I have had in Chicago, and my wide experience includes Coney Island Dogs, Pittsburgh Dogs, and lots of Chicago Hot Dog Eateries, in addition to knowing something about home cooking. The Smashed Burgers are also first class, and they make the well known burgers from the Chain Burger places look and taste pretty bad. They also have a Shrimp Basket, but that I have not tried since it is a bit more money. If you have, please share your review with us. You need to add salt, but I tend to prefer to add my own. I look forward to trying a hot dog the next time I go (oh yes, there will be a next time! ) Am reserving the fifth star till after I try it. Simply put, it met all my expectations and satisfied my cravings. Fresh hot delicious classic style cheeseburgers with the classic American cheese oozing out the sides. I prefer the thin patties since I don't really eat red meat anyways, it doesn't feel as heavy but still very filling. I'd definitely suggest getting a double if your hungry, for 5.75 with fries u can't go wrong! Stick to the burgers I wouldn't recommend the hot dogs or anything else . I'll be back one day...
