Have been to Red's a few times and everything was great. Not today. First off, The condiment area was a complete disaster. There were no napkins. Sauce and ketchup all over the place. Sauce cups and silverware scattered everywhere. 2nd the tables were dirty. 3rd they did not get the order right. 4th My hamburger had hot wilted lettuce, a drop of mayo and one super long onion on it. The onion rings they forgot about finally came out and were fried to crisp to eat and they were not beer battered like before. They were more like panko batter. I have eaten here three times now and think they have finally settled into their routine. I have tried the chili dog, fries, beans, shakes, and the burgers. The fries cut fresh in-house remind me a little bit like in-n-out fries. Not the same, but close. Dipping the fries in The Red's sauce is starting to grow on me. I like to mix with a little extra ketchup. I really like the burgers, not sure I remember the taste of the original joint, but these are great. Service is decent, this is not Benihana, it is a burger joint like all the rest in town. Red is not taking your order or serving your food. It is young adults making some cash. The chicken and fries were literally sitting in a pool of grease. The fries were slightly underdone which didn't help when they were soggy from the grease. We also got a hamburger and sweet potato fries. The fries were soggy (not too greasy just not done) and the burger was also dripping in grease. We ended up throwing all away because of it. When the owner touted of using the original recipes from the original and iconic Red's, he apparently forgot that some of us that actually ate there frequently are still alive. This isn't Red's food. Not even close. What you can get is a giant serving of disappointment. The burgers, although vaguely similar to Red's original are mediocre at best. The long hand made shoe string crinkle cut fries, blanched in cold water over night before frying, are non existent here. Their idea of a French fry is inedible. Remember the Red's steak plate that everyone loved? You won't find it here. Service is pathetic. Prepare to wait an exceedingly long time if you get your food at all. With four Freddy's locations in town, why anyone would go here is mind boggling. Road trip back to Tulsa from STL. Grandson (Burger Eating King) found Red's on Yelp. We weren't disappointed at all. He inhaled a double burger and said it was pretty good. BK had cheesie fries, okay she said. Mimi and KT had regular combo. Papa had a delicious chili pie that was made perfectly. Nice to have to-go drinks as we left. Staff was very attentive and all tables cleaned immediately after someone left. Found the Blue Whale picture above our table. Route 66 highlight near Tulsa. Giving 2 stars based on cute retro diner decor only. Went in at 8:05 p.m. and was told they were about to close and was turned away. I had checked their website and Apple map, before heading over from St. Robert, MO (where the Route 66 diner there closed 2 hours early starting today with no update) both sources showed a closing time of 9:00 pm. No hours posted onsite. If you're driving on Route 66 and interested in supporting classic/retro diners you should probably call first or risk going hungry. read more

Retro vibes all around! This was recommended as a go-to place for burgers and fries; Red's did not disappoint. Our party had a combination of burgers: singles, the giant double, and chicken sandwich combos. We loved our lunch. The burgers were great; the pattie's were thin like patty melts. My single came with all the "fixins" and I added caramelized onions, which I heartily recommend. The doubles looked delicious as did the chicken sandwich. Everyone at our table loved their choices. The fries were exactly what I was hoping for, not overly seasoned, just great fries for dipping. I recommend trying Red's sauce with them, available at the condiment station. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Like many places these days, it seemed understaffed but the workers were doing a great job covering all of the areas. We were in the big city picking up building supplies.... Stop in here for dinner they didn't look busy so we thought sure let's go. But needless to say we got right up to the counter and order maybe waited total 5 minutes to get our food. Husband order pork tenderloin comb chili cheese fries , I order jumbo with bacon cheese fries. Fries are hand cut and fresh. Burger is thin cook just right old fashioned cheese burger. The food was amazing. It has been a long time since I've eaten at this restaurant so I was excited when my husband took is there today. I had to go to the bathroom when we arrived so he ordered for us. when I came back from the bathroom my three year old boy had to go so my husband took him. Before they came back two workers came out with our three plates of food. I didn't know what my husband had ordered apart from my burger so I was having an awkward moment being unable to confirm that it was our order based on the food. They asked me if my order number was 92 and I said "I don't know what my order number is" The younger worker said to me "Your order number is on your receipt" as she moved past me to see if anyone else was waiting for an order. "I don't HAVE my receipt!" I said, gesturing in frustration. "My husband ordered for us". The older of the two workers concluded that it must be my order because he remembered my husband ordering. He offered me sauces and asked if I needed anything else and was very polite. I said thank you. Unfortunately the experience was kind of ruined for me after that. The young lady just dumped the food off without another word and didn't of course apologize for her remark about where I could find my order number. Literally it isn't my first day on EARTH. I have ordered food many times, over many years. Treating me like I'm freaking dumb and don't know where to find a simple number, on top of being unprofessional and not even saying thank you. I almost didn't eat here cause of some of these reviews. I would have missed out! The food: I had a "Giant" burger. That's the one you want if you're just "hungry for a burger or somethin". I ordered a side of chili & a chocolate shake. The chili was good, not the best I've ever had, but really good & I'd order it again. The shake was good as well. I also sampled my wife's fries & they were crisp & hot & homecut! Delicious. The service: our order was taken by a bubbly & patient young lady with auburn curly hair. She explained to me the differences in the burgers & was patient as all 5 of my party ordered. (I even liked how she yelled "279!!! YOUR SHAKES ARE READY!!!" The ambiance: it's amazing in here. We wanted to have a nice burger lunch and our go-to place was closed, so we decided to give Red's a try - and wow, was that a good thing to do! If you like old-diner charm with your burgers, this is a place to go in Springfield! From what I understand it's a re-opened, old local place with a lot of history and tradition (supposedly, they featured the first drive-through in the US). Butvthe main reason you're eating at a burger joint is the burgers and they were delicious, juicy, and with just the right flavor! We tried both the regular and sweet potato fries and both were really good, too, crispy and with just the right amount of salt. Personally, I liked the sweet potato fries even more than the regular ones. The staff was very friendly and since it was our first time at Red's they were also very supportive and patient with us. But the New Red's is an homage to the old Red's on Route 66. We wanted to see just how well or poorly the new owners paid tribute. We were pleasantly surprised. Not the worst quality I've had but the fries were not hot and fresh and we were there for dinner at 6pm on a Saturday. The veggies were fresh but the hamburger patty was thinner than Steak N Shake. Kid liked the hotdog. The soda machine was failing and when brought to the attention of a supervisor he argued with me. I asked him to take the Dr. Pepper and he refused, said there was nothing wrong with it and that he had been drinking it all day. The manage was called and she had no interest in tasting it either but she did and guess what??! She said it was a problem with their lines. It was never fixed and there was no apology for the way the supervisor handled the situation. The atmosphere is good. The employees were friendly and helpful. The burger and fries I had need some work. The fries were warm but not crunchy and was almost like eating mashed potatoes. Now the burger, the Patty's were pre cooked and had been sitting around a while. They were not even warm. Add to that the bun was not warm at all and that the tomatoes and pickles were cold made this Berger not a happy eating experience. Maybe they were having a bad night. I will try them one more time before crossing them of my places to visit list. 2nd visit was no better than the first. fries were mushy, burger was the same pre cooked and over cooked dry meat. Pulled away, burger was luke warm (the wait would have been fine if the burger was fresh). We were taking cross country road trip (close to a route 66 trip), and my son had heard of Red's Giant Hamburg. This is a recreation of the first drive through. Our road trip was from LA to Indiana and were trying hamburgers at places like Heart Attack Grill (Las Vegas), Whataburger, In-N-Out and others. This was by far the best burger we had between LA and Springfield, MO (and the whole trip). We came during the COVID-19 pandemic (all employees had masks) and we were there mid-morning, so it was not busy. We met the owner and I asked about their beef source (I grew up on a beef farm and know that a good burger starts with good beef). They get a custom blend of meat cuts in their ground beef. Though the decor was retro, it was modern and clean. A lot of pictures and a tip of the hat to the original Red. Great history is noted. Music plays over drive in speakers at each booth. This is absolutely a lovely burger diner. I wish I could have seen the original back in the 80's to truly compare. The food is great and the pricing is even better. The decor is unique and fun. The atmosphere can be loud but mainly because they are busy and full of happy customers. Red's is going to be my new favorite go to place to get a burger, if only it was more on my way to work. Bonus: they do have a drive thru if you don't want the hussle and bustle of inside. They also have their signature sauce which is fantastic with the fries. My husband & I went to the new Red's Giant Hamburg! Red's used to be a Restaurant on Route 66. Red's is known to be America's First Drive Thru. This restaurant is no longer located on Route 66 but it has been said that the new owner has Red's original recipes. The new owner also has pictures of Red & his family hanging in the restaurant which added a personal touch. Pictures of locations on Route 66 also hang on the walls throughout the restaurant. The restaurant opened last weekend during Springfield's Birthplace Festival & is still bringing in a crowd (which I expected). When we placed our order they let us know it would be about 40 minutes before we would get our food. I was glad they let us know, but we were willing to wait. The dining room was crowded & we sat at the only empty booth. We probably only waited 30 minutes for our food. I did not think that was too bad considering how busy they were. I ordered a Root Beer & a Junior Hamburg (Single) Combo and my husband ordered the Giant Hamburg (Double) Combo. We both thought our meals were delicious! After we finished our meal we ordered a Chocolate Shake to go! If you are in Springfield I highly recommend you stop at Red's Giant Hamburg. We waited in line for our food for 20 minutes. We paid extra for bacon and they didn't put it on our burgers. We did really love the shakes. They were creamy and rich and reminded me of childhood. The food was good once we were able to make it home. We maybe try it again. read more

Really really good food. The burgers are really big, the bacon is some of the best bacon I have ever had and the fries were yummy. The buns were super soft and the patties made from scratch. The fries are definitely fresh and were not overcooked. I did not try the ice cream but I definitely will next time.
