The two older gentlemen seated in front of us were distracting with their bright and shiny heads. Before the lights went out, I wanted to put on my sunglasses. We were in the back row which is my favorite row and I was just not going to move. I don't mean to be rude but it was not only the sheen that bothered me. They did not whisper. "THEY TALKED LIKE THIS TO EACH OTHER" while they rattled their big tub of popcorn. "RATTLE, RATTLE. SCRUNCH, SCRUNCH." On the upside, the seats were very comfortable, the kid had consented to go with us and Sherlock Holmes was fabulous. Robert Downey was mesmerizing on so many levels. read more

You go to a movie theater to watch a movie and thats what happens at regal. Regal is usually the place we go to watch movies. We got in and gout out fast. Movies were in good quality and had no issues. Seats and Lighting were great and their were no background noises to disrupt me from the movie. But the food and drinks their are way past overpriced. 2 Small drinks equal a whole movie pretty much. Words cannot even BEGIN to describe how much it pains me to not be able to see a movie at The Alamo. If I can't, for whatever reason, this is usually my standby theater. Sure, I'll go to Dobie or Arbor for artsy, independent stuff, but for the big budget-ish movies that don't quite meet up to Alamo standards, I come here. The reason I come here is the overall quality of the movies themselves, meaning the sound and visual quality. Yes, parking is awful. Annoying little kids being allowed into the shows are awful. The lack of leg room and reclining seats is awful. Concession prices are a bit high, but not much higher than any other "regular" theater. And don't even THINK about putting your (man)purse on the floor! I wouldn't mind seeing a big budget action film here, really... due to the sound quality fantasticness, er, acceptableness. My advice to you is, buy your tickets in advance or head to the kiosk that no one seems to use so you don't have to wait in a long ass line. BYOS (bring your own snacks. I was going to give this place three stars because i feel like it's kind of ghetto for the area that it's in, but after reading the other reviews i feel like it wasn't fair to do that to this theatre. Okie, so here goes: The movie was CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS and highbent on preventing what happened during Harry Potter 5 (almost got into a fight with some girl), I forced my friend to go 30minutes early so we could get good seats. I looked a fool running in to the theatre trying to make sure i got a good seat. As it would happen, i went into the theatre too early and the employees who were cleaning the theatre from the previous showing, gave me a funny look and told me i had to wait. Lol. There were only 5 people ahead of me but i was still determined. Anyway, when the cleaning staff finished they came out and told me that I could go ahead and go in. Woot! I ran to the middle of the theatre and planted my booty in the the seat. Not the luxury seats i'm used to when i go to Stonebriar Mall (Frisco, TX) and perhaps not as roomy. The seats weren't as elevated as the rows ascend, but I was still happy. Like most theatres, you could lift the armrest and get chummier with the person/people sitting next to you, and the downside to those chairs, is that you lose a cup holder, BUT (and pay close attention because this is where the fourth star comes) this theatre, has ANOTHER CUPHOLDER right underneath the armrest. So you can lift it up without having to give up a place for your drink. And i could be the only one freaking out about this, but that is the FIRST time i've seen that - and i'm a big movie buff. Audio and Screening were good. Staff kept coming in to check on the sound - good because i want the best quality, bad because they kept holding those light thingies that they use to direct traffic at the airport. And the other minor problem i had was that the lights that line the stairs/aisles were ridiculously bright. Once again - good, because i don't want to fall if i need to exit in the middle of the showing, and bad because it was like my peripherals were at a rave. Popcorn good. Not too greasy but definitely flavorful. Wish i had more to comment on, but overall my experience was great. read more

I agree with Cody. Unless this is your neighborhood theater or this is the only place something is showing, I wouldn't recommend coming up here. If you do go there, hope that it is not crowded: Parking can be horrendous -- if you know the area, I had to park basically at REI. Seating was even more horrendous -- the seats aren't tiny but not great if you have to sit next to a stranger. And the leg room is non existent. Horrible. The kind of seats where you have to scoot way back in your seats and pull your legs up to let anyone else get by. And then they have to shuffle in front of you sideways (face forward or backwards?). Concession prices seemed a tad on the steep side for concessions, but the sizes were HUGE. A medium popcorn was more like other theater's large and my large diet coke was the biggest I'd ever seen. read more

Alamo Drafthouse has spoiled me. Despite buying tickets through Fandango two days early and arriving more than 30 minutes before the start of the 11:20 p.m. showing of "The Dark Knight", going to a regular movie theater still meant standing in a line of a hundred 20-somethings for over 20 minutes. In this case, I know it has more to do with the popularity of the movie than the theater (and all Alamo showings were sold out), but this princess has become accustomed to arriving up to an hour before showtime, sitting down and having alcoholic drinks and restaurant-type food brought to her. We ate at the Iron Cactus before the movie, and the only alcohol in this theater that I could smell was brought in by the obnoxious couple next to me who would not STFU during previews or the beginning of the movie. Seriously? At the Alamo, you can discreetly complain about loud people by writing a note to your server--without getting into a stare-down with the a-holes. Like I said, I'm spoiled. read more

My roommate and I just got home from the 10:30pm showing of Superman IMAX 3D at this theatre. The one star is for the snack bar girl who handed me my popcorn. Lets get into it. Management of Gateway: IT IS JUNE IN TEXAS!! The thermostat is your friend. Why do you feel the need to smoke out your patrons?!?!? I don't know what degree you had it set on...but it felt exhilarating to walk outside where it was a refreshing 85 degrees!! I'm talking BALLS HOT!! I'm not embellishing here...I literally had to peel my balls from my inner thigh while Clark Kent walked around his icy Fortress of Solitude in a freaking T-Shirt. Not cool. Then, later on, I'm straight up swamp ass while Superman gets strengthened by the heat of the Sun. A man with my ego cannot be constantly reminded that I will not one day be the savior of the human race. As we were leaving, the people sitting in front of us informed us that they had alerted management during the previews. Nothing was done. I am to blame. As a native Texan, I broke rule number 1: I forgot the Alamo (draft house theatre). Never again. read more

It's hard to write a review for something that just seems so standard and cookie cutter as a Regal multi plex cinema. If you said Regal Multi Plex, I would probably envision something very similar to Gateway 16. It is hard to find the theater tucked back behind the strip shopping malls that contain shops such as REI, the Container Store etc. There wasn't even a sign on the street advertising the name of the theater, which made me almost miss the turn in for the parking. The parking lot is spacious. I had no problem finding parking. The theater itself was cleaner than most Regals I have been too and I liked the castle like theme of the interior - of course the standard Texan star is prominent throughout the décor. The quality of the sound and picture were fine. Bathrooms were standard semi clean on the edge of dirty, but at last less filthy than other Regals. My feet didn't stick to the ground as I walked to my seat in the theater which is always a plus. read more

This review, as it should be, of this particular Regal Theater, not Regal as a chain. In general I don't have a problem with Regal as a chain itself. Yes, movies and concessions are expensive so I'm not going to complain about that. This theater is not worth the cost of admission however. Lobby/Concessions: 7/10 Standard lobby with standard concessions, at standard pricing. Not much to report. Staff was also fine. Bathrooms (ladies): 7/10 Nothing bad to report here either. The hand dryers are ridiculously low on the wall, and this is from someone who is 5'4, but other than that, just fine Theater auditorium: 4/10 This is an old theater in need of some renovation. Their website says they have stadium seating but it is not really all that truly stadium. It is somewhere in the middle of an old non-stadium seating theater and actual stadium seating. The aisles are very narrow as well. The upholstery on the seats are very worn with small and large holes or fraying and very thin. They are also rather dirty. It is kinda cool that there are double cup holders but I imagine that is only helpful when it is completely full which I doubt it ever is, so it is a wasted feature. The particular theater we were in was pretty dirty and hadn't been cleaned or swept up as there was garbage on the floor and popcorn everywhere, including on the seats. Screen/projection quality: 6/10 We saw KungFu Panda 3 and the entire time there was a burned in image of a pyramid. Kinda like if you leave a plasma tv on too long on one image. It was distracting. If tickets weren't $10+ most of this stuff wouldn't bother me, but not for the price. One big benefit of this theater is that there was basically no one there so pick of seats is almost guaranteed. read more

This is quite possibly the worst theatre I have ever had the displeasure to see a movie in. The seats may have cushions, but I think wooden benches or bleachers would be more comfortable. They don't recline at all and are falling apart. The only positive thing is that the arm rests move. Seriously, that's it. Oh...and we also discovered that there is padding on the bottom of the arm rests...but not the top. Were they on drugs when they designed this shit? The screen really wasn't as bright as it should be, and the complaints about sound are very valid. Do they even clean the theatres out between movies? I've never seen such a gross theatre! This was a nice theater. Clean, nice staff, etc. No red flags that should keep you away! Honestly I was just a little disappointed with the IMAX. My boyfriend and I live in Round Rock now, and just didn't want to drive all the way to the Bob Bullock to see The Dark Knight Rises. I don't hate this theater, and as it's one of the closest ones, I find myself here relatively often. As the stars indicate, it's fair-to-middlin' here, people. It's an average theater. It smells like popcorn, it accepts all kinds, the workers are mostly sullen 16 year olds with chipped black nail polish and the snacks ain't cheap. The seats don't recline, which I find f---ing odd for a theater of its size, and the employees here don't appear so much as to work as stand there, eyes glazed over, waiting for the invisible electric fence to deactivate so they can go home. I mean, I've never seen so many vacant-lidded people in my life. My one complaint is that once, seeing Repo Men (leave me alone), the movie skipped two or three times. Seriously, full on stopped. But they gave every individual two free movie tickets, which I thought was nice, and it's the only time anything like that's ever happened. read more

If I ever stray from Alamo again, I hope it is to this theater on a Thursday evening. The fact that the place was half dead made it bearable. That, and the fact that the movie I saw was beyond awesome (Argo). The staff was friendly and they played the movie super loud, which I liked. The place seemed pretty clean too, except for the nastiness in the women's bathroom. I slammed a mocha right before I got to the theater (I know, I should have known better) so I visited the ladies room a few times over the course of two hours. Each time I went in there, I made the mistake of opening that same stall, just to see it looking at me. Also, one of the times I was in there, I heard what sounded like another girl desperately fumbling with the toilet paper...machine(?) then say "Shit!" I think that stall might have been out of TP. I don't think they attend to their bathrooms too much, and for how slow they are, there's really no excuse not to. Also, their hand dryers are strangely low to the floor. So, okay, I'm a total amazon. I have a problem with a lack of leg room, it's the main reason why you'll probably find me at an Alamo before you find me at any other theater in Austin. This place had NO leg room! I've been at tree-top level for a while, and I've learned a few tricks on how to deal with this. Throw a leg over the chair in front of you, or between two chairs. or over one and around another...NONE OF THEM WORKED! THE SEATING IS FREAKISHLY NARROW!! Even my friend, who is not known for his stature, was having a hard time finding a place to put his legs! I decided that it was designed by an eight year old. It was clean, the people were friendly, and they played the movie loud enough to give you that "Glad I saw this in the theater!" feel. Other than that, nothing too special. read more

5 Stars for Customer Service & HONESTY I lost my debit card there 3 days before Christmas, but didn't start looking for it until packing to leave Austin. No extra charges on my bank account, but I decided to stop by there before driving out of town on the 26th since Gateway was the last place I knew I had used the card. (I kept expecting it to show up in the bottomless pit known as my purse) Walked into Gateway, asked the ticket clerk & in no time, the manager showed up and handed me my card! I'm positive they would have called my bank who would have notified me, but I went to the movie after close of business on the 23rd and they were closed for the 24th-26th for Christmas holidays plus the weekend. This used to be our regular theater when we lived close by, but now that I have moved and expanded my theater horizons I have realized how truly awful this place is. People have already mentioned the parking, it is horrendous. People have mentioned the children everywhere, let me share my experience. I made the mistake of going to see "The Hills Have Eyes" because I liked the original. This particular movie was so offensively violent even for a campy horror movie that I got to see more people getting up and walking out on a movie than I've ever seen in my life. I as an adult was barely able to stomach some of the rape and gore scenes so you can imagine that I was horrified beyond words to see two teenage parents with their tiny infant in the theater with us. The baby was crying the whole time because the noise hurt its little ears and I'm sure the visuals weren't too pleasant either. And they just sat there through a rated R movie with a scene in which a monster rapes a woman in front of her children with their screaming baby. The final time that we went to this theater we wanted to see "A Night at The Museum". When we got into the theater and I got settled we realized how disgustingly filthy the place was. I tried to ignore the pile of trash 4 feet high in the corner, but since it was one of the front corners of the theater, my eye kept wandering over to it while I was trying to sit through the previews. I finally couldn't take it anymore and had to leave before i barfed from the filth. I literally felt waves of nausea sitting in the middle of all that nasty trash. We ended up going down the hall and seeing "Casino Royale" for the second time in one of the theaters that was slightly more sanitary but I still recall the Gateway as the dirtiest one I've ever been to. I don't think I've ever been here and not had my shoes stick to the floor or been able to find a seat that didn't have left over trash in it. read more

Gateway should really be able to get some more stars here. They're in a high-falutin' shopping center. And their lobby is humonstrous, with lcd screens promoting the popcorn and cinna-pretzel foodstuffs. But as my buddy Errol says, after a few years it seems movie theatres just get punished by the masses coming and going and deteriorate. This might be part of the problem Gateway has, though not entirely. The biggest problems seem by design. 1. The seats aisles are really close to each other. What is this, a commercial airliner? 1a. Seat angle/reclinage is nil. 1b. Seats are uncomfortable. 2. The theatre reeks of mold, or mustiness, or some kind of nasty combination of both. I am not kidding when I say I really hope somebody is checking out the cleanliness of the air in here. If I had nothing else to do, I'd do it myself. The two stars are indeed for the lobby, and for the fact that the sound and the screen itself were both acceptable. Time for a remodel, Gateway? read more

Your basic movie theater with stadium seating. The popcorn is hot and buttery, and most times you can get a pretty accurate ratio of syrup to carbonated water in your soda. Every so often, Regal comes out with a $1 small popcorn and/or $1 small drink coupon, and you're able to upgrade to a larger size for the actual difference in price, which is awesome. I think last time we did that, we paid about $5 for a large popcorn and a large drink. read more

It's a movie theatre it has up to date movies but it's not he cleanest or neatest movie theatre. It has a lot of young teens running the counters and they are not very fast at all at their jobs so be ready for a wait. The prices are fair if you call movie theatre prices fair. I have found out if you go to costco to buy your tickets it's a little cheaper so I always go and pick up a few tickets and keep them at home so when we head to the movies we have them ready and we just go up to the counter and get whatever movie ticket we need to. But we always end up going to this theatre because it's the nicest one around that's a regular movie theatre. It's not like an Alamo draft house or an ipic but it's my movie theatre of choice here in Austin. read more

I like this theater because it's big and therefore has a lot of show times and movie varieties but overall I think it has gone downhill. I think part of the issue is that a lot of the younger crowd beat up on the chairs, but they are starting to look very dated. Its still a good option if a certain movie and time suits, but the are lots of newer nicer theaters popping up for the same or less money that would be better options if all else is the same. read more

I only gave it one star because I couldn't give it 0. We arrived at the 11:15pm showing of "Man with the Iron Fists" fairly early, at 11:00pm. As we were walking to the ticket window there was a group of 6 people standing at the window. We noticed the cashier was shaking his head at us before we even said anything to him. I proceeded to tell him we were there for the showing. He immediately says "We don't control 3rd party websites" without any explination. I turned to walk away and noticed him hand 6 tickets to the group that was standing there, so I asked to speak with a manager. The manager, Kristi S., then proceeds to question which website I got the information from, then she tells me that "those were her last customers for the night" and then turns the light out on us. So at the end of the day we wasted gas, didn't get to see the movie, were treated very rude BY MANAGEMENT, and found a theatre that I will NEVER visit again. I've been to this theater about 100 times and I honestly don't understand all the negativity I am seeing, related to the pricing. Most of you people don't seem to know how the movie theater business works. With the cost of maintaining the movie theater and the skyrocketing price of utilities, there's pretty much no way they can actually profit off of selling just movie tickets, so there must be another source of profit, in order for them to stay open. Hence, the "outrageous" price of concessions. People are saying that these prices are such a big ripoff. Have any of you people ever been to any other movie theater? The prices on concessions there are pretty steep, too. Even though the food at the Alamo Drafthouse may taste better, it is still a ripoff. Look at me with a straight face and tell me that you believe a cheeseburger and fries (and no drink) is worth $10.50. You can't! You are paying for the convenience of having food to eat there. And it helps the theater stay open. The only reason I am giving the Gateway 16 a "4" and not a "5" is because I haven't checked out their IMAX screen yet. Also, they don't give me the college discount that some of the other theaters do, but that's somewhat understandable. However, I will be seeing "The Avengers" on Friday, May 4, so if I am satisfied with their IMAX screen (If it is anywhere near as good as the Bob Bullock Museum's IMAX screen), then I will probably re-rate it as a "5". 5/8/12 re-rating: The IMAX is surprisingly very good. The pedestrian flow of this theater is all out of whack. For starters, you always enter feeling like you parked in the wrong lot, as you have to navigate a stream of slowly moving and idling cars/SUVs and hike over and around curbs and landscaping humps with tiny trees just to get to the front entrance. And then, once you're inside any of the screening rooms, there's a constant pedestrian flow of EMPLOYEES in front of the screen! WHY, pray tell, do theater employees have to take out, sign, and replace a duty roster next to the screen every 30 minutes? And with a flashlight, at that? You go to a movie theater to escape ... not to be reminded of a job you had in high school for a corporate franchise that doesn't trust its employees. That's just a weird business practice for a theater. That said, the selection is usually good, and in that respect it's a decent theater that I frequent. read more

Apr 19, 2014 - Captain America 2 We showed up early, received our closed caption glasses (my friend is deaf) spent our usual $20 on a couple bottles of water and a box of Reese's Piece and then headed into the theater to find awesome center row seats. The movie starts. About 20 min in, the closed caption glasses begin to fail, displaying captions from Transcendence, which is playing in the theater next to us. It then reverts back to Captain America 2. About 10 minutes later, the glasses resume displaying dialogue from the neighboring theater. This has happened to us before, so we figure it's time to go. In our previous experience, we received a refund, and 2 complimentary tickets to the next showing. But most importantly, we were given a very kind apology by the manager. Not this time. When we approached a staff member near the front, I asked for a manager. About 5 min later, the manager makes an appearance, walks up to us...and just stares. I introduce myself and explain the problem with the glasses. Without saying a word, he takes the glasses and starts inspecting them. He then said that he would have to send them off to be repaired, at which point he turns away to walk back into the box office. I reminded him that we were only 30min into the movie, and I asked if we could receive vouchers to come back later. He then faced me again, and asked for my ticket stub. Then he asked my friend for his. After looking at the stubs, he glances back at us and asks how long we had been there and which theater we were in (all the details on the ticket stub). At this point, I realized I was not dealing with an individual focused on customer service, and that I may be under suspicion of trying to "pull one over" on the guy. Once I answered his questions, he asked me to step outside of the theater and to meet him at the box office window, which I did. When I arrived he immediately asked me for my credit card. I provided it, and as I was handing it to him, I advised him that I would be ok with just receiving replacement tickets, or we could go watch another movie. He ignored me. He reversed the charges, handed me a receipt stub, and then turned his back to me again. No apology, nothing. I then became angry, and somewhat appalled. My friend naturally felt bad about the whole situation, as he could tell it was an uncomfortable one, not to mention Captain America is one of his favorite comic book characters (he's kind of a nerd). ;p After arriving home with our overpriced water and disappointment, we read several reviews on Yelp, and apparently, this guy is notorious. 2 negative reviews of management for the same theater within the span of a month (I'm not counting the negative reviews of the other staff members). All fitting the description of this guy. Bottom line is this: When a patron spends money on your products/services, and your product/services fail in quality, it is incumbent as a member of management to make it right. And an apology goes a very long way. To treat a customer as one would an annoyance is just bad business. Austin has very large deaf community, which represents a significant presence within this theater's footprint. I am not convinced that the theater is accustomed to poor business practice, but this guy needs to be removed from his position, as it is obvious he doesn't understand his role. read more

The only reason I go to this theater is because it's close and I only go when The Alamo Drafthouse: Village is sold out or if they don't have the movie showing. I remember this place being better when I used to go to it years ago, but the many times I went this past year has not been very enjoyable. The movies are shown on time and all that, and that's not the problem. The main problem is the theater itself. The lobby area/concession area smells of popcorn. Yes, I know a theater smells of popcorn and can be overwhelming. However, this place seems to take that smell and double the intensity, destroying my sense of balance and motor functions. I think I figured out why that is when I stepped into the actual theater rooms (what's the official name?). The place smells of pee. I think the lobby/concession area must smell of pee as well and the smell of popcorn masks it and they blend to make a unique smell. It's like a beautiful girl that I find attractive, only that the girl is a man and I am horribly heterosexual. Confusing? Yes. I think the smell of peepee must be due to leaks because it's all-the-more powerful when it rains. *shudders* read more

It's your standard multiplex. My most recent trip was to see "Gravity" and it was phenomenal. The film, not necessarily the experience. The seats are comfortable enough, but I still get cranky at the concession stand when I'm paying 12 bucks for something that costs less than two. Yeah, yeah, no one is forcing my hand, but I can still be unhappy about it. You can always sense the "I'm here because I have to be" vibe from the employees. They do a pretty great job at keeping the place orderly and even at busy moments, lines move quickly enough. They're woefully underpaid, I'm sure, so I guess one can't be too tough on them. Say, if I start bringing my own 3D glasses, can I pay normal ticket price? That should be a thing. read more

Great theater for kid movies and they have booster seats too. Overall it's kid friendly and my 3yr loves it, especially anything in 3D and the IMAX takes it to another level!! Don't forget to bring a throw blanket, it can get a little chilly at times. ;-) read more

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews here. People complaining about the prices of the tickets and theater food: 1- go to the first showing, 2- don't eat the food there, problem solved. Hubby and I spent $15 for two tickets, that's fine with us! We happened to have a coupon for a free small popcorn, so we just added a large soda, yes it was $5.75 but theater's make the most of their money from concessions so I don't blame them. Don't like it then have your gf/wife sneak something to eat/drink in her purse or eat before you go. The employees were polite, the theater was very clean, the bathroom was clean, the screen was clear, and best of all there weren't any of teens around :) Great if you like to WATCH your movie without people being obnoxious. read more

This place was such a disappointment. To begin with, the food and drinks were extremely overpriced and the basically had nothing available. The movie theater seats were all torn up and dirty. The theater was dirty. They played too many commercials BEFORE the trailers. The whole experience was depressing. read more

The seats are uncomfortable and at an awkward position. Seats were hard and fold in even if you were sitting in them. The seats did not stagger appropriately, my husband is 5'11 and he had to move his head to see past the guy in front of him. (This is not a problem he usually gets) The theater was too warm to sit comfortably with a packed house. I never thought I would say this but the screen was too wide for such a small theater, had the seats gone higher it would have worked but the theater was oddly designed. read more

Regal Gateway does not compare to other Regal theaters nationwide. It's in a league of its own. The bathrooms are outdated and reminiscent of those found at a rest stop or a seedy gas station. The concessions selection is adequate, but the popcorn was served cold for my visit and the butter did not taste like they used the correct product/formula. The 4DX theater for "No Time To Die" was a waste of money. Most of the special effects in the theater were inoperable; no scent, no water/mist, no fog, minimal seat functionality, and no air - just the a/c turned on high. This theater should be remodeled or closed. read more
