REI, well, they are close to where I live. Except for at the Lynnwood location, they are unlikely to have anything actually in stock and will continually tell you to go to the super yuppified Seattle location. Their staff invariably does not know what they are talking about unless you are asking the simplest questions about the most mainstream things. You want to really know about skiing, go to Pro Ski. You want to get some real advice about other outdoor gear? Go to Marmot Mountain Works or Pro Mountain Sports. Also, the parking at the mall location totally sucks. Make sure you set a GPS waypoint where you park your car so you can find it when you are done. Then you can warm up for your weekend hike on the 8 mile walk into the store. REI does have a generous return policy. Just do your own research and be prepared to drive to Seattle to actually find it. read more

I love REI. They always have that weird accessory I need and can't seem to find anywhere else. I also love that this location is on the edge of the mall so I don't have to wander - get what I want and get out. My only ding for REI is the prices. Maybe I am a cheapo, but $50 for a shirt I am going to wear to yoga and get all sweaty seems a bit much for me. read more

This place is way to expensive. When Cabela's comes to Snohomish County they might be in trouble. They do have quality stuff don't get me wrong. The problem is they don't have a cheaper option for anything. I would still rather drive to Cabela's in Lacey before shopping here. read more

REi used to be an outdoor company. Now they sell cloths and gear aimes at the yuppy who doesn't want to get his arm wet as he reaches out his mega SUV's window to grab that big mac combo super sized meal in the drive through. I tried to get bindings for a set of skis, nope can't do that "they" have to mount them. I tried to get a shell with a bib, nope only on-line. I tried to get a cam, nope on-line. I really think they "main" streamed this chain to increase sales of low quality gear manufactured in Sri Lanka to maximize profits. If you want a large selection of high quality outdoor gear go to a specialized store, not REI. read more

Parking is always a challenge at this location. That entrance of the mall is pretty busy. They are always busy and the service is good when you can get it but it getting it can be hard. Overall it's a nicely laid out store but nothing like the flagship. read more

Holy cow! The shoe guy, Jeremy , was amazing! poor boyfriend has plantar fasciitis and he came to REI seeking sweet relief in the form of insoles. The salesman was a total rockstar. He not only new his shoes but he knew his anatomy as well (I'm in the medical field) and was able explain plantar fasciitis to even the most layman of laymen. read more

This is the REI location I most often visit since I live on the north end. It can be difficult at times to find an employee when you have a question or need help but it's never been a real problem for me since I mostly like being left alone when shopping. My only real complaint is that their inventory tends to be a little slim, especially compared to the flagship store (for example, they only have maybe 4 or 5 small camera bags versus a dozen or so at the flagship). In the end though it's my go to place for outdoor equipment from camping to biking to footwear. read more

Gosh I love REI. I especially love the service at the alderwood location. I hd the most amazing service earlier this summer when I needed and overnighter pack and was completely lost. All of a sudden I had the best help from I believe her name was Kelly? Or Karen? About 5'3ish and blond shoulder length hair? She was amazing. I meant to write a review because of her earlier and I procrastinated. I am now in love with my osprey aura 65 and have used it a bunch this summer. She got me all set up with a sleeping bag and a few other things. She really knew how to help me find the perfect fit for my body. Great experiences here always. read more

This review is specifically for the shoe department at this REI (great customer service). I went in a couple days ago to look into getting some waterproof shoes for running my dog in agility during the winter months. The two people that helped me were great! Beth in particular was extremely helpful in finding me the perfect shoe. She measured my foot and explained what shoes would be best and most comfortable for my foot type. I've loved going into REI since I was a kid and would ride my bike there with my friends to wander around the store, but today REI really showed me why being a member is so worthwhile. First, we've gotten a couple great deals at the in-store garage sales - REI's return policy really works out for everyone involved. You can get lucky with a great find on a returned item or you can easily bring something back for a full refund if you're the least bit unsatisfied. What sets REI apart though are the members of their staff who stand out in their respective departments. I've always had a good customer service experience at this REI location. I bought a pair of hiking boots only to discover on the trail that they were a little tight around my toes. Had no problem exchanging them for a larger size. I wish they had a wider variety of items in stock, but overall I have no problem with this location. read more

REI is one of the best places I have ever been for outdoor gear. Their customer service is excellent. They can answer questions like no one else. They especially know their shoes. Some of the items are a little pricey in my mind, but there are plenty of other excellently priced items as well. I especially like the large variety of bike parts and the reasonably priced yet still great quality bike repair. The one downside to this store is its location. Being next to Alderwood Mall is not so good for bikers. There is unfortunately no bicycle line. But the store itself is great. read more

Alderwood Mall Location. First, and Last, visit yesterday. Came in to look at a pair of binoculars. After waiting for awhile by the case, we asked a man behind the back counter if he could help us. Told us he'd be there in a few minutes. Never came. No other employees approached us. No one offered to help. I even waved at the security camera, and pointed at the case, hoping someone would be sent to help us. We intended to spend $$$, but we weren't there to hunt down someone to assist us, or be ignored. Left the store, and won't be back. Bad Service, actually NO Service. Rating - Zero Stars. read more

They tell you all this philosophical Bull crap. They sit and stare at you, (They know your looking for help) And they just do nothing! I used to have a great experience shopping at this REI location, but recently myself and others have had horrible customer service. They are rude. Try and talk to them about a product and they just give you a look then walk away! At checkout they don't hide their attitude or their opinions on what you say, like really you're going to glare at your customer like that? I don't know what happened, but the people I've dealt with have not been pleasant for the past few months. I would rather make a longer trip than shop at this location. I cannot even begin to explain how amazing my experience was here. I came in last minute literally 1 day before a huge camping trip needing a brand-new roof rack installed on my Prius, no where else was available to do it the day of but I was told they would be able to squeeze me in. Bryan was totally incredible, he stood out in the hot sun for well over an hour installing it for me and it completely made my day, because of him I'm going on my trip stress free and able to put everything I need on the roof of my car. i'm so appreciative of him and the entire team at REI that helped me out! read more

I'm sad to see that the review my friend wrote about her poor customer service experience has magically disappeared. When she called the bicycle department she simply asked if the man she was speaking with was a cyclist. As she and I are both new to the cycling world, we hope to gleen from experienced cyclists, and she was trying to gauge if indeed he was one or solely an individual who worked in that department. Upon being asked this question, he changed his tone to one of exasperation and frustration, then after a short, snippy answer to the question he hung up the phone before my friend was able to ask more questions. -1 star for poor customer service Felt compelled to take a star away, unfortunately. My REI sleeping pad was losing air. Took it in to either get patched or exchanged. The lady says their return policy has been changed to only within a year of the purchase. She kindly looked up the date, June 2013. Tells me I should be fine as today we are still in June 2014. I thought, "sweet! just in time." So she goes to the back for some reason, comes back and says they can't exchange it. Didn't really give a reason for the change of heart, although she told me it has been less than a year and this should be fine first. Tells me they sent an email telling me about the change. Suggests I buy a ThermaRest with replaceable valve. I was disappointed that she went against what she told me in the first place and then could not offer me a valid reason for changing her mind.I didn't feel like making a scene so I ended up having to buy a new one right there. Doesn't seem like they even know their own policies now. I ended up spending 100 on a new one. SO disappointed I no longer go to REI first. read more

I'm really angry at an employee in this store. I am a noob bike rider. I am in the market for a womans road bike and have been doing research and visiting a few local bike stores. I thought I'd try REI to finish up my research and buy my first road bike. I called the store to see if they had what I'm looking for. I was placed on hold for a reasonable amount of time, I know they have customers in the store and I wanted to be patient, but I didn't want to drive all the way to Alderwood if they did not have what I needed. A fella answered the phone representing the cycle department and I asked him several questions. It was very clear he was annoyed that he had to come to the phone to talk to me, which honestly I expect now days from most customer service reps on the phone, but I ignored his tone of voice and impatience and continued to ask questions. I asked if he had two particular models in the store and he immediately stated no, go to the flagship store. I asked him if I was to come into his store, would the person helping me likely be an owner and rider of the bike? He laughed and said in an extremely rude tone, "Uhh, yeah lady, all my bike techs have and ride bikes". I was offended and stated, "You laugh, but I've been in your store before and have had people try to sell me things they know very little about. This is a big purchase for me and I want to be sure I am sold something by someone passionate about biking and not with a little knowledge of the product". He stated, we'll, it's a stupid question and hung up! I was PISSED! So, I sent the store an email and decided I had to YELP! Customer service in the cycle department of the Alderwood store needs a friggin overhaul. So, I spent my $3000.00 at Gregg's Cycles in Greenlake. read more

I've been a member for 35 or so years, but I have to say I was disappointed today. The book section used to be upstairs, with a place to sit and peruse the books. Not anymore. It's downstairs crammed in the middle of the store, with no place to sit, and considerably fewer titles. Guess I'll have to go to B&N. read more

I am a fan of technical tees, and can almost always find them here. They have a fairly good selection of the tees most of the time. I prefer the Lynnwood store better than the Seattle store because of convenience. Sometimes the employees can be awkward, but other than that I really enjoy this location. read more
