Hey where did you go tailpipe? I dunno. My bug Ludwig is an old man, very impatient, and loves to chug oil. Today he got cranky and decided muffler tips are for chumps. I had to explain to him how we didn't want to draw more attention to us by being loud. I called Dr. Alisa and it was taken care of in less than 15 minutes. My wife and I left Anaheim on Saturday morning (today) to go to Temecula to visit some wineries. My 71 VW Ghia started having issues on the Ortega Highway. The engine started cutting out. We made it down the hill and almost to the 15. The engine died completely. We were 14 minutes from a VW shop called Relic. It would start and run for 30 seconds and then quit. We sat for an hour and the engine started up and we went straight to Relic. We made it. They didn't know us from Adam, and they stopped what they were doing because we were from out of town, and they wanted to get us back on the road. The issue was a bear to deal with and even on test drives, the team would run out to push us back when it failed. Not only did they fix the issue, but they tuned the dual carbs as well, and pointed out other little issues I should look into when I have time. To make this story even more amazing, their best friend, and mechanic, had just past away a week earlier and all his family and friends were arriving at the shop to celebrate his life. They called their friends to take over the organizing of the food and drinks for the party because they were focused on my car. People started arriving, but they kept working. My bug is an auto stick which they apparently didn't make a ton of. It can be very hard to find anyone who really knows old vw's let alone an auto stick. I recently had to have the transmission replaced and had one person start the job but couldn't finish it. There were so many problems with it. The people here gave her all the time she needed and were very knowledgeable. They had to fix so many different issues but I have to say it drives better than when I bought it over 5 years ago. Had very bad axles. 1 about to disintegrate, the other on its way. 3 Allen bolts were stripped. All mismatched. A hell of a situation. 3 mechanics had refused to do the work. Each wanted a lot of money -- but, after inspection, refused the work. I was in a bind. Pulled in to Relic, didn't know what to expect. Was asked to put my van on level ground. She did a quick evaluation and quoted a cost. I felt that what she was charging was too low -- given that 3 others had refused the work. I was honest! I convinced her to increase her estimate. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, I was on my way. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I am completely impressed. Was worth EVERY penny. I'm 53 years old. Before I review let me give a little background information. Like anyone who has a vintage VW I love mine very dearly. So when a few months ago my engine stalled on me I was devastated. Not now right before the summer starts. So I got myself educated and learned a lot about VW maintenance. Now I admit I'm not a mechanic but I am very eager to learn about my little machine of wonders. So I couldn't get the timing right one my bug even tho followed all the guides and books. So on Tuesday i tell myself enough lets hope I can find someone decent to get her running. Here's the review I called her wens day explaining my situation and she was super knowledgeable asking all the right questions. I ask her of I could bring in my car today for timing and carb adjustment. Very friendly she says no problem just bring her in at 1 and well get her running. This to me was an amazing deed as she has 13 other cars she's working on for customers. I bring her in and the very first thing she ask let me get the story here. Again very amazing because most mechanics don't want to hear anything from you. We put her in the garage and they start doing their test. I stood there quietly letting them work. (Btw I was very happy that I was able to watch them perform their diagnostics again most mechanics would tell you to go wait in the office). Not only did she get her running but she actually took her time to give me what she called "an educational moment" teaching me a bit about fuel pump and distributer rod mechanics. the bottom line She had my car running in about 20 minutes and even pointed out other things that could be of concern. Not only was she super patient friendly and accommodating but also get this I paid almost nothing $39.20. She is truly not in this business to become a millionaire she loves old VWs and you can just feel it. It was more then just refreshing to do business with such a passionate individual. If I were to become a millionaire and would need my vintage VWs serviced i would ship them all to her. Relic you are awesome. read more

After spending thousands of dollars a few years back I called to set up an appointment. Alicia the owner said she would be more than happy to call me back and make the appointment! After seven days I called back in to see if I can get the appointment made. I can't say for sure but I could hear the frustration towards me and my vehicle. So Adam the mechanic tells me that I have a bent valve and that the motor needed to be pulled from the vehicle and that he would get a quote over to me ASAP. After four days now and still no quotes. I had to call back and that time Alicia was really frustrated with me told me I should pick up my vehicle and take my business somewhere else! Who does that?
