Stopped in with a girlfriend for dinner and wine. Love the ambiance here! I arrived early, so I put in my reservation for 2 and sat at the bar for a sparkly rose. Plenty of room at the bar, lots of classy people. There was enough background noise to mask your conversation, yet it was quiet enough to speak without raising your voice. Bartenders, greeters, wait staff were all friendly and very professional. We grabbed a bottle of red and decided it was burger night. OMG the burgers were great! I have to admit that I liked the blue cheese as opposed to cheddar, but they were both succulent. Shoestring fries were a nice touch, but the grilled asparagus was the show stopper. After a really poor lunch experience earlier that afternoon (see my review on 'SideDoor'), Remington's was a breath of fresh air and fine food. One of my criteria for a 5-star review is that I could recommend this to someone coming in from out of town. And guess what visitors? You need to check this place out. PROS -Plenty of options on the menu. As you keep reading, you'll see that we tried a lot of food and all of it good. We had a hard time picking just a few things - we wanted to try it all! -No. 8 Tuna. I almost got this to eat, but my fiancé got it instead. I took one bit and immediately regretted not getting it. It was prepared perfectly and I felt like each bite melted in my mouth. Oh. Em. Gee. -Filet Mignon. Even though I wish I would have gotten the tuna, I can't knock what I actually got. The filet mignon was also prepared perfectly (medium rare, just how I like it) and served with truffle béarnaise, shallots, and mushrooms. It didn't come with a side because frankly, it was delicious by itself. -Crab Toast. Had a little bit of kick, but was very fresh and tasty. -The Cookie. Last, but definitely not least, dessert. Had a hard time choosing yet again, but we landed on the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. It was gone within 60 seconds. -Service. Our server helped us to decide on our courses for the night when we were on the fence. She was friendly and happy and the reason we got that cookie! -Price. For the quality of food we got, I thought the price was really reasonable. I was expecting to pay way more for the amazing dinner we had. CONS -When I go back next time, I'll let you know if I find any. BOTTOM LINE -Whether you live in Chicago or are just visiting, this is definite must for dinner. Terrific steak place with wonderful other dishes. You can get pricey and Devine steaks or reasonable sandwiches. I am not a drinker and have never even wanted a whole glass of wine but my grandma in crime got a terrific sweet wine. Can't remember the type since I'm not a drinker. But it actually tempted me into my first real grown up glass of wine with dinner. And I don't regret it. Yum. There's a cool party room encased in glass holding all the wine bottles. Speaking of which, that room looks like a cool place to have a party. And all the staff are so attentive, I bet it would be a blast. They were so nice and sweet to us young grannies on our grannies and granddaughters day out. We didn't have a great experience here with the service, but the food was amazing so that's why I still rated it highly. I don't want to punish the entire restaurant due to one person's actions. We had the lobster deviled eggs as an appetizer, and they were tasty and unique. I had the prime rib and my friend had the filet mignon, which were both fantastic, and the sides of baked potato and creamed spinach were good but unremarkable. The problem we had with the service began when we first arrived. We made an online reservation earlier in the day for 9:30pm, and when we checked in at about 9:25, the server made it a point to express her frustration to the hostess that we were there for dinner so late, loudly and right in front of us. She mentioned several times to them, and to us as we sat at the table, that the kitchen closes at 10pm. She seemed very unhappy the whole time that she had to serve us, and we went long periods of time without seeing her. In the meantime, several guests were seated after us. I understand that she may have been frustrated, but if it's an issue to serve people at 9:30 due to the kitchen closing, don't have that time slot available as an option for reservations. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome and tarnished what would have been an otherwise wonderful meal. read more

Meh... average. I really wanted to like this place, but the service was just not stellar. The bartenders were just ok. They weren't great, but they also weren't bad. They didn't make me feel like I wanted to continue to spend money with them...very dry personalities. I couldn't really hear as it was loud in there and I asked for a beer glass which apparently the bartender asked and I said "no". To be fair, I thought he was speaking about a glass vs. bottle which is why I said "no". However, when I did ask for a glass he seemed so incredibly bothered. I am not sure why. I am always kind to bartenders and servers because it is a really hard job. I am always grateful say "please" and "thank you". I am basically an incredibly easy customer to deal with. We did move to a table where our server was not great. She was robotic, not engaging, and didn't offer any advice on the menu, drinks, anything; She was simply an order taker. 3 stars for the variety of appetizers we ordered which were absolutely incredible. If we ever go back here, it will be for that and then move on somewhere else for dinner. We really wanted to like you Remingtons, but you missed the mark on our overall experience. Bummer. read more

So - I loved EVERYTHING about my first visit here! That kale salad was absolutely amazing. We also shared the roasted Brussels sprouts, the asparagus, the tempura rock shrimp and everything was fantastic. I nearly ate myself into a food coma! Our server, Alexa, was friendly and extremely competent and kept the food coming. My friend who is vegan, and apparently goes so often she knows the owner personally, was able to share in all but the rock shrimp, but also had the delicious-looking guacamole. Went to Remington's for New Year's Eve dinner. Overall a good experience with room to improve. The atmosphere was upscale yet comfortable. The food was hit or miss. The crab cakes were tasty with good amount of crab. The short ribs were very one note. All I got was salt and meat. Would have liked to have some sweet or umami on the plate. The dish was served with lobster mashed potatoes. This was more of a marketing scheme than gastronomic feature. The salt and butter from the dish overpowered the lobster flavor. You could barely tell there was lobster. I would have preferred a truffle or wild mushroom mash. The almond leches cake was the star of the dinner. It was light and full of flavor. The service was attentive but a bit hurried. Not sure why. There was no one waiting for the seat because we had such a late seating. That said, they did give us New Years noise makers me hats which was a nice surprise. read more

The best chicken dip in the world. It's the only place I will have chicken. I just can't resist it it's so crazy delicious. I don't have fries with that, I just have a salad with vinaigrette and I'm in heaven. And when I do indulge in a glass of wine, all of their glasses by the wine and the beers are delicious. I ordered the Turkey burger after my server Brice said it was to die for (I wasn't disappointed). We had a very pleasant meal here on a weekday night. Started out with cocktails that were just different enough to grab our attention, especially the nice clear ice cube in my "The Bean" (Templeton Rye, Fernet Branca, Luxardo Maraschino, orange juice and tawny port) - yep, those pretty cubes are delivered twice a week, our server informed us. There are nice touches like this throughout the place, including a very impressive wine wall and booth lighting that doesn't get a glare in your eyes. Our server was well informed on the menu and gave good recommendations, as my companion (amazing daughter) was looking for vegetarian options. On his recommendation, she chose the kale salad, which was anything but an afterthought on the menu. Kale, napa cabbage, carrots, grapes, and roasted peanut dressing. We shared a Spaetzle Mac 'n Cheese (sans bacon) wow - the texture of the spaetzle elevates this dish! I enjoyed a smoked trout dip as an appetizer, and the nice touch here was pickled Fresno chilies and a bottle of green tabasco! It worked. Then I just flat out splurged (well, my daughter did, as it was a Mother's Day treat) and went for the prime rib with loaded baked potato. It was medium to medium rare, with a tasty crust and meltingly tender taste. No dessert for us but we did repair to the bar for an Amaretto. I like the dining area better than the bar, which didn't seem welcoming or cozy for some reason. The dining area is comfy and intimate, classically dark. First, let me begin with I've always loved this place; that is, until I went yesterday. Like many downtown office workers this has been our "go to" for Happy Hour, since well before the beginning of the pandemic. Great environment, food and super friendly bartenders and waitstaff. These days, I'm normally downtown in my office 2 to 3 days a week. Was in yesterday, decided to stop in and have a glass of wine, and perhaps an appetizer while I waited for a friend to get off work. I sat at the bar (which, I prefer; again, the staff has always been lovely, additionally, you meet the nicest people). The bartender you now have on duty for happy hour is horrible. She makes it obvious that she prefers not to wait on "customers of color" (I'm a middle aged African American woman); which is ironic, because I believe she's Latina. The last 3 times I've come in she barely looks at me, mumbles a greeting and "slaps" a menu in front of me; then maybe, or 5, 10 minutes later, she will come over and ask "what are you having" in a disinterested voice.... Yesterday was the icing on the cake; I sat there and she NEVER once asked me if I wanted another glass of wine, or anything else for that matter; she literally avoided eye contact with me and ignored me. BUT she perked up, turned into "Little Miss Sunshine" and literally fell all over herself asking people who were seated on either side of me (who were Caucasian) numerous times "are you okay, can I get you anything else?" I had to wave down the other young lady working the bar (pretty slender girl, who, btw, has always been super nice and professional to me) to get another drink. After about 45 minutes of this type of treatment, my friend texted me to say I'm on my way, will be meeting you there in about 10 minutes; to which I replied to her "ummm no, let's not stay here, let's go somewhere else where our patronage will be appreciated; will explaine later." When I flagged her down for my bill, once again, she gives me a bland stare, says nothing and literally "slaps" my bill on the counter and walks away..... I have friends who, like me are professionals working in downtown Chicago; a few of them have actually rented out your wine room for both personal and professional functions. I'm making sure to tell all of them about the horrible experience I had, and if you can't train your employees to treat all your customers equally, to rethink having functions here. Which is a pity; because, except for this one horrible employee (who again, is making it painfully obvious she has no interest waiting on people of color), the rest are extremely nice and professional. read more

Very comfortable setting. Simple American focused menu. Salads, sandwiches, entrees. If you're missing Bandera, J Alexander's or Houston's from the Chicago dining scene, this place is a passable replacement. Nothing mind-blowing, just well prepared basic menu offerings. If you're near the Art Institute or Millennium Park it's a good option. It's possible to have a conversation. No tourist throngs or Instagram photo ops. My husband and I were there late on a Sunday afternoon, still pretty quiet. Great ambiance, modern finishes. The hostess was very friendly and sat us immediately. From there it went down hill. We ordered with our server that initially seemed nice enough. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees. After a long wait we couldn't figure out why an appetizer was taking so long. Then another gentleman not our server arrives with our meals...no appetizer. After that our waiter was pretty much MIA. Came back once at one point and we told him our appetizer never arrived. Never came back again, not to check in or ever refill our drinks. We waited for sometime for him to come back to ask for our check. He had a refill for my drink, not my husband and keep in mind someone else had already taken our plates and we were getting pretty annoyed with how bad the service was. My husband had ordered a Rib eye and I had the prime rib. The food was decent, but by then the with the experience, we knew we would not be returning. We generally believe in tipping the staff generously, but when he came back with our check he seemed almost rude and/or short with us. He also took it upon himself to input the choice of a 22% tip. It was disappointing as a restaurant that appears more high end on Michigan Ave would have such poor service. read more

Great lunch spot addition in the loop. People tend to go to the same places and this is a tasty, refreshing place to try. We started by sharing the crab cake and it was delicious. Almost pure crab with a light, crispy crust. The slaw on the side is an excellent accompaniment. I had the Brussels sprout salad and really enjoyed it. Perfectly dressed with a mound of airy manchego on top. Dried blueberries and bacon added a lot of wonderful flavor. My friend had the kale salad and he enjoyed it, clearing his plate. We came on a recommendation of a friend. It had an unpleasant fishy odor when we walked it, but the service was good and the manager quickly accommodated our growing dinner party. Everyone ordered something different and seemed to enjoy the entrees. But one of my pet peeves is a cold or luke warm baked potato. One should be pipping hot, cheese melting, steaming, dripping with the stuff it's loaded with. Not so this night. I was with a customer and elected not to complained. But a cold baked potato isn't a good complement to a good steak. Servers should learn to intercept cold food before it's served. I for one, would tip more for hot food. read more

Visited this restaurant yesterday for an early dinner before the theater. The ambiance was casual but still upscale. It's a great spot of dinner, happy hour drinks or date night. The hostess allowed me to be seated even though my friend hadn't arrived yet. I hate when restaurants make you wait for "your whole party to arrive". Our waitress, Jessica, was awesome. Friendly. Personable. On top of things. We ordered the guacamole with chips as an app and for entrees I ordered the prime rib with loaded baked potato. Bestie ordered Bronzino and it came with asparagus. For dessert I ordered the Nutella Brownie with ice cream. My prime rib was cold. Not even Luke warm. I asked for it to be warmed and it was much better. Bestie loved the fish and the dessert was the truth! The negative was my food was served cold but I appreciated the effort to correct the mistake. Customer service is very important and because my issue was promptly addressed, I didn't take away a star. Overall a solid enjoyable experience and I would definitely go back. read more

Last Friday night, we had a rehearsal dinner for our son and daughter-in-law's wedding weekend and we couldn't have been happier! Being from out of town, we needed to plan everything long distance via phone and e-mail. Mallory and Dina were very responsive and prompt in their replies which made us confident that our event was in good hands. Everything was absolutely perfect! The food was so delicious and abundant, the service was attentive and the wait staff anticipated our every need without being intrusive. We had our own lovely private dining space which worked out beautifully and were cheerfully accommodated when we wanted to display decorations and show a video photo loop on their screen which added a fun and wonderful component to the evening. Everyone was such a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Every request was met without hesitation and executed to perfection. Ok, I have eaten here many times. I just noticed today on my bill a processing fee of 3%. When I asked I was told it is for masks and sanitizing. Firstly, Chicago and IL no longer have mask mandates so why the charge? Secondly and much more important why a percentage of the total bill? This is a joke. Someone comes in here and spends a ton they are billed at 3% of the total for a service that isn't any different than if some comes in and has a light meal. My wife surprised me with dinner here on my birthday. It was absolutely amazing. We started with appetizers which were shrimp cocktail, crab toast, and a jumbo lumb crab salad. The shrimp cocktail were huge and the cocktail sauce was just right. I like my cocktail sauce hot and spicy and it was loaded with horseradish, just right. The shrimp were U-12 which means they were jumbo size. The crab toast or bruchetta was loaded with jumbo crab meat and we shared a jumbo lumb crab salad that consisted of cherry tomatoes, avocado, and butter greens, radishes, topped with a bernaise sauce, talk about succulent. If you cant tell yet, this family loves crab meat... lol On to the entree: I had the pan seared Halibut with bok choy, red peppers and almonds, topped with caper berries, it was delicious. Halibut is my favorite and most times if its on the menu I will not pass it up. For dessert we had the skillet cookie which came in this tiny black cast iron skillet. Topped with toasted pecans and vanilla ice cream OMG!!!! The ambience of the restaurant had a bar feel but still really nice with a view of Michigan Ave. A glass see through wine cellar with over 1200 bottles of wine. The wait staff was amazing as well. I had a couple of bloody marys which were made to perfection. Suffice it to say it was a really good dining experience. I would be hard pressed to find anything wrong with this establishment. Ooooh they were not valet parking and we had to walk a couple blks in the cold to get there. So thats why I didnt give them 5 stars. Thought this place was pretty good. Nice vibe and decor. My favorite food was the grilled octopus dish. Would have given five stars but the sauce that came with my gals rotisserie chicken and with my pork chop was super salty; over the top. Too bad because the flavor and tenderness of the pork chop was outstanding. I made the mistake though of pouring the ramekin of sauce over the chop to start and it's just too salty. Went on a short 4 day trip chicago and this was the "big" restaurant we decided to check out. Food was amazing. Our waiter, Tony, was amazing. He gave us so many recommendations of what to check out! We know that we went during a pandemic, and totally understand that a lot of places were closing early, but WHY would you let customers make a reservation at 930 if your restaurant closes at 10pm? I don't recall exactly if that was my reservation time, but it was 30 minutes before closing and we felt extremely rushed. We had to order two drinks and didn't really enjoy the experience. If we had known this would happen even with a reservation, we wouldn't have gone. read more
