I got the man and my husband got the woman. I felt this time he was much more gentle while still getting out all the kinks on my back and body. Excellent 60 minute foot rub with Jason on Saturday. This was my second visit to Renew, and this time I brought my husband. He was surprised how much he enjoyed the foot rub (also 60 minutes) followed by a 30 minute chair massage; both of his treatments were with Helen. I got a 60 minute massage coupon off of Groupon. I tried to call twice across two different days and nobody picked up so I showed up in person to book an appointment. It didn't seem too busy and they seem to have a lot of availability in case anybody else is wondering about their walk-ins. I will note they did ask me to pay a five dollar Groupon tax at the beginning of my appointment. They did have a sign for tip policy where the suggested was a minimum of $15 for a 60 minute service. I tipped $15 and they did not beg for tips after which I was a bit anxious about. Anyways, ask for my massage my masseuse was great. She checked in a lot to see if the pressure was ideal. I went with medium strength and it was pretty good. I honestly think I could've gone a little bit harder, but I've heard a lot of stories where massages can be really intense, so I was scared to choose the strongest strength. I have been attending this spa for the past year and a half and have generally had positive experiences. I normally request Jason for my massages because he is very skilled and always does a great job. However, during my visit yesterday, I brought a friend to celebrate a birthday and was unable to give Jason the usual $15-$20 tip that I normally provide. To my surprise, he became upset and confronted me about it. What made the situation even more disappointing was that he did so in front of other customers. I found his behavior extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Tips are appreciated, but they should never be expected or demanded. As a loyal customer, I was embarrassed by the way I was treated. Unfortunately, this experience has left a very negative impression, and I can no longer recommend this spa to others. I hope management addresses this matter to ensure no other customer is made to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed in the future. read more

I tried to post this on Groupon twice, but somehow it didn't show up. Got a Groupon for a 90 minute massage (the cost wasn't much less than their regular price) and when I arrived, I was asked to pay $8 "in tax" (not a usual request). I would have been fine with it if the massage had been good... but unfortunately it was subpar, the worst I've had in NYC thus far. It was clear that, while a sweet person, my masseuse was not trained in massage therapy. She just used brute force and elbow strength the whole time. There was so little variation in her moves -- just elbow moves for most of the 90 minutes and mostly on my back (I didn't even turn onto my back). In the moments that she did use her hands, her callouses made it pretty unpleasant. I get a massage once a week so I know what a good masseuse feels like now. I also enjoy medium to hard massages, but this was painful. I had to ask her to be softer 7 or 8 times, and she would for a minute before going hard again. In short, I would not recommend this spa... it's just pretty clear that at least this one masseuse (and probably others) was not accredited. I have a back injury so had I not told her to stop doing some things or to go softer, I might have risked further injury... read more

I was so pleasantly surprised that I'm giving all the stars! Woke up a block away and rolled on over to Renew where I was taken into a massage room right away, no appointment, o waiting. As a massage therapist and spa owner for 20+ years in a visitor destination I never expect too much but Renew delivered on all things. Clean, friendly, professional, very nice proficient skill for the work they are offering, great price. Fantastic. It is what it is and it delivered. If you are ever in New York you absolutely MUST try Renew Body Spa at 111 W 25th St! Seven of us received unforgettable massages!! We couldn't stop raving about it. The ambiance was nice, peaceful & clean. The masseuses were incredible. They didn't rush it, took their time. They took out knots I didn't know I had, lol. We were all very satisfied with our 1 hour massages. We paid after, they didn't beg for tips, & even though we wanted to tip our masseuses individually, they pool the tips together & share them among all of the workers. She was patient, attentive, and really focused on working out all those tension knots -- I left feeling completely relaxed and refreshed. On my next visit, I had a different therapist (a male masseuse), and the experience wasn't quite the same. He had a different style that didn't work as well for me, though I know everyone has their own technique. Overall, the spa itself is great, and I'd definitely go back -- especially if Jenny is available! read more

I enjoyed the massage. The lady did kinda beat me up a little with slapping my body a lot. The place looks decent. They required me to pay beforehand which is typically NOT normal for a service but whatever I paid for the entire service. At the end I give her a tip and she is forcing me to give her more. Respectfully I'm like no this is a SUGGESTED tip. She is saying no I'm required to tip this much. She is making it seem like i didn't pay for my service which i didn't appreciate. I picked up my phone to call my friend and I felt she was nervous I was recording her so she eased up her tone. I won't be going back because of how that situation regarding the tip was approached. Truly one of the best massages I've had in years! The gal who did my full body (60 min) massage did an amazing job. I am a little sore today but that's simply because I live in a world of stress that has created all these tiny knots across my neck and back. She found each one of them and tried her best to work them out. I feel so good today! I want to add a side note. I had left my mom's necklace there after my massage. I'd left it on a table and realized it about 2 hours later. OMG I cried and figured it was gone. My husband called immediately. They didn't have it but would go look. She found it! I came in today without appointment for a 20min neck/back massage (in-chair) on my lunch break. They had immediate availability, were very cordial and the masseur was fantastic! He was so proficient in finding my stress spots and knots, as well as using heavy pressure (which I often cannot find people to do at that degree). I mean I knew it was real when she straddled my head and got deep into my back; I was in Heaven. And just to be sure it was 90min I set my own timer on my phone. I love coming here as it's so close to my job. I found it randomly through Groupon a little more than a year ago and have continued to visit since then. Everytime I come here I'm always satisfied by my masseuse and the service I received. I almost always get just a 60 minute massage. Before the service even started, we were told there would be a "tax" added for booking through groupon and they did not honor the price I was quoted over the phone. Customer service was decent (I do not use that word strongly) but the massage therapists are clearly untrained. Maybe they are fine for a mani/pedi, but go somewhere else for a massage. I stopped my service ten minutes in and she still tried to charge me...then went down to charging me at a discount. Edit: They do not offer mani/pedis so there is no reason to come. I have been coming here since it opened a few years ago. Actually, been very regular - once a week / once every two weeks. Always thought the service was pretty good and the massages were decent. It's not fancy, but it's clean. Unfortunately, it's changed a lot over the years and not in a good way. The prices were always pretty competitive (but certainly not the lowest). I never really minded as the place was clean and respectable. Unfortunately, they have raised prices and now have become very aggressive with demanding a massive tip. By the way, there are 5-6 places within a few blocks that all charge the same amount. The front desk person has changed and now they try to make you pay upfront - umm no thank you. I'll pay after the service. Additionally, when paying they tried to overcharge me - $55 for a foot massage vs. the clearly listed $45. Then after giving the masseuse a 20% tip she demanded more. I politely told her that I've been coming for years and always give this amount. She became aggressive and in my face ranting about being mistreated. I really think it's just gotten out of hand. This place seems to not want to pay their employees and wants customers to give a massive tip - she was saying $20 for a $45 service. A gratuity is based on the level of service and is not a requirement - if it was, it would be included in the price, which it clearly wasn't. Customer service was horrible. We went in the night before to ask for pricing and availability. The lady at the desk gave us the card and said that we could just walk in. The card says they're open until 12 but they close at 10pm but if you want to go In After 10, just call and make an appt. So I called and made and appt for 3 people. As soon as we walked in they were asking us for payment. If you pay with card you pay taxes. He was charging me $55/person when the card they gave me the night before clearly has $49 per person. I asked him why the difference and he respond "no price change". I explained to him that I had just been in the night before and was given those prices. He didn't care and would not budge. $6 is not a huge difference but it's the principal. That was the price I was quoted and that's the price on the card I was given. They have a board with different prices. He was not trying to keep our business until we were walking out. He them lowered it to $50 but I was over it and found another place. read more

Pleasantly surprised and much needed after two days of walking 15k each around nyc. I found it on Yelp as we were already in chelsea. First the decor was nicer than expected given the pricing was inexpensive. $49 cash for half hour body and half hour foot reflexology. It's $54 if you use credit card. We paid $60 cash each. Started with foot. No soak but they rubbed our feet with warm clothes and started rubbing right away. I fell asleep in total bliss Then we went into a room for body massage. Usually this is just okay with places that cost little. My masseuse coco was great. Expert technique and got me all relaxed. The hot stone at the end was a nice surprise to get there full relaxation. I've been here before and it was good. But this past weekend, I had the worst massage of my life. I'm still in pain! It was a bad experience all around. A buddy and I went there after an active day. I requested appointments with masseuses for 2 men. For some reason, they put us in the same room. 2 straight men have no desire for couples massage! That itself was uncomfortable. But made worse by the fact that then, the 2 women kept chatting with each other. That is not relaxing! And non of that is anything compared to the abuse this woman inflicted. She had no technique whatsoever and was violent! She was jamming her elbow into my neck! WTF? I understand that she didn't speak much English. But that is no excuse. If I am screaming in pain from what you are doing, stop doing it you psycho! At some point I jumped up and yelled. The other woman asked what was wrong. I said "tell her to stop!". She had gotten hot stones and of course they were too hot. She kept putting them down because they were burning her hands. Then why the f*ck are you trying to put them on my back! Great, affordable massage that is clean and friendly. While in vacation with friends, we came in twice to get massages. Both times I did the 30 min foot and 30 min body massage. Pressure was great and found those knots perfectly. You can choose to be in a private room or in the front room in a chair but stay fully clothed. I suggest the rooms where it's a bit quieter and feels more like a 'real' massage. I would definitely come back when I'm in NYC again read more
