I…read moresent my Dad's 1968 Pioneer SX-1500TF to Shawn to have it re-capped back in June 2013 and didn't get it back until February 2014. Here are my issues..... COMMUNICATION: Shawn's communication was non-existent. I had to badger him for any sort of update. He never contacted me to let me know that he received the stereo. He was originally supposed to have the restoration completed by August 2013. When I didn't hear from him in August, I called him only to be told that parts are on backorder and that he didn't start the job. This went on until November 2013. He then let me know that he injured his knee and didn't know when he'd be able to complete the job. Apparently his shop was up a flight of stairs and he could get up them. Then magically it was done and shipped. I will say this for Shawn, he was very pleasant to talk to. SHIPPING: My stereo arrived in an oversized box with a couple of air packets thrown on top of the stereo. The box was held together with duct tape instead of packing tape and was coming open at the bottom. Basically, my stereo was bouncing around in a box without any padding. WHO SHIPS ANTIQUES OR ELECTRONICS LIKE THIS?!?! PHYSICAL CONDITION: My stereo has a wood case around it. It was shipped to Shawn without damage. Arrived with two decent sized nicks on the top of the case. Shawn also removed all of the case machine screws, apparently lost them and used sheet metal screws instead. WHO DOES THIS TO AN ALL ORIGINAL ANTIQUE?!?! ELECTRONICS: The stereo arrived in not workable order. It would play with all kinds of odd transient noises and also had a issue were it took roughly 1 minute to turn. Neither issues were present prior to shipping to Shawn. Shawn dismissed both issues. He stated that he never heard the noises and that it was most likely interference. As for the 1 minute turn on thing, I got some long answer that really didn't make sense. After a series of emails, I finally gave up on Shawn correcting this. Flash forward to today.... I just picked up my stereo from another well known San Diego audio repair shop. The diagnosis? Well, Shawn didn't replace all the capacitors I was charged for. Some of the capacitors he did replace were the wrong values and wrong physical size. He also installed two capacitors backwards. The stereo also needed roughly 20 transistors replaced. I had asked Shawn about that and was told that he couldn't do it because of some nonsensical reason. Now that Shawn's work has been corrected, my stereo turns on in less than 5 seconds, has no weird noises and sounds great. AVOID GOLDEN GATE ELECTRONIC REPAIR!

To be honest, since he does not have a traditional store front at first I was nervous about leaving a rare and valuable amplifier with him so I started with some smaller items. Samsung explained this would be a very simple fix and it is a common problem and they didn't feel like it? I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy they are worthless when I asked him what the problem was the man at the desk just stared at me wouldn't speak and turned around and walked away in the back. Obviously their paycheck is not going to change $1 the people losing the money are the ones that hired them and pay their paychecks and that won't be affected but the store can't meet its bottom line because the people who work there don't feel like it!??! They did give me the cheaper of the two, thank goodness because It was a significant amount. These phone and their repairs aren't cheap. I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard two weeks ago. Within about five minutes I was getting an error message. I called around to different computer service centers the PC Service Center gave me the most affordable quote. $85 for a simple cleaning. If there were shorts and I needed new parts they would simply charge me for the parts above the $85. So the 85 was a simple flat rate for the labor on the entire job. nothing hidden. i knew upfront what all the charges would be. It turns out that my computer did not need new parts so all I paid was the $85 for the cleaning (thank you!!). This was far and away the best price. The next closest was drop zone (california location). They would've charged me $90 for a diagnostic. Then that $90 would've been put towards the repairs/cleaning; im pretty sure they would've charged me over 90 for the cleaning, tho. Everything else was much higher after that. I was getting quoted $150 and $200 from all the other PC repair places in Reno/sparks, and some of them were not very transparent or forthcoming about pricing over the phone. PC service center does have a lot of work, so you might have to wait a few days to a week simply because they work in order received. i highly recommend this business. No need to go anywhere else unless you want something overnighted. They also have laptops for sale if yours is busted. Prices look like they range from about $300 and higher. Their store is cool. They have old Macintoshes and other tech on display for decoration.

I thought I was so much better than this. (:-( I checked Yelp reviews and chose very well coming here. They have a reasonable rate, they offer rush service at a reasonable rate and they are all soooo helpful! And so very kind to me. I prefer text to phone and they made that happen for me. When I picked up my computer Jean even helped me change my computers password and fixed my login so it is exactly what I wanted. She even helped me download my most important program so I'm up and running when I get home. If I have any future problems THESE ARE MY PEOPLE! Jay checked me in...so great. Nat the owner helped over the phone. Thomas helped also. They are a great TEAM. I feel so safe dealing with a company who has been in business HERE for DECADES! They offer a reasonably priced protection that alerts them if I have a security problem. I think it sounds great after what I've just gone through. I'm in my 70's and I'm not totally computer illiterate...most of the time...but sooo much has changed in the decades since I started with DOS...(:-) I feel like from now on if I have an issue I can come here and pay their help rate and not have to fight with my computer ever again. They also seem to have quite a bit for sale in addition to service. This is a TRUE FULL SERVICE COMPUTER CENTER. Come here first so you can see what a REAL Computer Shop looks like.
