Disappointed in service. We came here for restaurant week, they were busy but placed us at a large table (larger than we needed). A large party was waiting for our table and continually walked by waiting for us to get up. We were waiting for our dessert that ended up taking 20 minutes to get delivered to our table. I tried to order a pizza Togo as we were eating our pizza and the first time when I asked the waitress, she walked away before I could finish my sentence. the second time 10 minutes later, I was rudely told by her that it would take more than 30 minutes to get it. I decided to not get the pizza but our dessert took such a long time I would have had it before we left. I ended up going across the street to get Togo food. Slow, rude service. Service was okay the waiter was friendly but just didn't see him often not sure if it was a staffing issue or why we didn't see him often. This is a pleasant brew pub kind of place. The food was good (pizza and a Cobb salad), and the service was particularly good. We came here around 1:50 on a Thursday afternoon. We were sat a couple minutes later and no one came over until after 2pm to take our order. We got the Roosevelt fries, edamame, pi bites, Caesar salad, BLT and liberty salad. Roosevelt fries were delicious! I really liked the batter and the bbq-the sriracha and blue cheese sauce was not for me-too spicy! Edamame was surprising one of my most favorite foods! Loved the flavor, good portion and served warm! The pi bites were disappointing to me. I thought they needed salt and I didn't like the beer cheese sauce. These are not something I would order again and my mom and sister love them! I got the liberty salad and it was quite tasty! The belt was also very delicious! I didn't try the Caesar salad and it looked good. Service wasn't great because there was only one person working of st least that's what it looked like. He didn't give us happy hour prices even though we ordered after 2pm, that was annoying. Service, beer, pizza...a powerful combination. The location is convenient if you're near the South Hill. Tuesday is the ninja day to go for $10 full size pizzas. The Cannon pizza is my favorite and I'm pretty sure the sister locations don't carry that one. Appetizers are solid. The pretzel bites are accompanied by a Cougar Gold cheese-based dipping sauce which is worth the trip, itself. read more

RPi isn't the biggest place in town, and compared to its sister The Flying Goat, it's probably smaller, but there are few places on South Hill where you feel more connected to the output. I've been coming here since it opened and used to live nearby. I honestly can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet! I was a regular call-in for their $12 Tuesday special(when I lived on the hill), which is a real treat. Some of their prices are on the higher end and I love that they have a day where you can buy the pizzas you wouldn't normally treat yourself to. They are absolutely worth the price any day, though. I always forget to take pictures, it's just too good to wait to eat. My favorites are the Bluff, the Wilson, and the 37, but I haven't had a bad pizza here. My dad religiously orders the Waikiki, which is the perfect spicy Hawaiian. My favorite app, which I rarely go without ordering, are the pi bites. The perfectly crisp and fluffy dough bites are so good, and my father-in-law has paid extra to drink a side of the beer cheese sauce. Seriously, he's addicted and would buy a bowl if they'd let him. The beer selection is good, though a little more expensive than I'm used to. However, for the hill, it's kind of expected and the atmosphere is so pleasant that I don't mind. The staff are always friendly and I've never had rude service. I had to leave unexpectedly once due to my dog jumping the fence at home. The young woman was only concerned about my dog, and urged me to rush home. I've eaten here when it's packed and when it's empty... service is consistent either way. I can never decide if I prefer Republic or their sister restaurant, The Flying Goat. I highly recommend trying both!! read more

Go for the crust. I guarantee you have never tasted a better pizza crust. It is cooked to absolute perfection, almost like it's been fried! It has a perfectly crunchy exterior, and a soft and flavorful center. I don't know for sure, but it looks like there's some sort of butter/oil + salt glaze they put on it, it's super shiny, it glistens in the sun. I don't live near this place at all, but for the crust, and the PI BITES!?? I'd come back just for those. read more

This place was great! We had a late lunch on a Saturday. The place was open for indoor and outdoor seating. Every employee was wearing a mask and the tables were far off. We started by ordering some beers and a Manhattan as well as the edamame appetizer with sesame seeds/oil, soy sauce and salt. Delicious! The edamame was a little too salty but really good. My friend thought the Manhattan was really good too. We ordered 3 sandwiches: the vegetarian sandwich, the meatball sandwich and the chicken and onion jam sandwich. I had a salad with my sandwich and my friends had the fries. Everything was really tasty. Both the meatball and vegetarian sandwiches were made with pizza dough style bread which was surprisingly genius and delicious. My vegetarian sandwich was really good, full of veggies: arugula, mushrooms, dried tomatoes, goat cheese, onions and peppers. The salad came with gorgonzola and crispy peas. I did not really like the peas but the rest was great. Loved the salad dressing! My friends really enjoyed their sandwiches and the fries were the best fries we've ever had. The pizza is delicious and the smoked mozzarella on the pizza was actually smoky. The wings are legitimately spicy. Scale is 1-5, got the 3 and you could smell it the second they hit the table. I like spicy stuff and the 3 was hot. Waitress said the 5 hurts people. read more

All I can say is I wish I could give it 10 stars! First off, I love that you can do half/half of any pizza combos so you can try more than just one. I got half Fairview and half Cannon and they were equally delicious I also got a half Pi Salad to start (not pictured because I was too hungry after doing Bloomsday to take the time for a pic), but it was hands-down the best salad of my life. The white balsamic dressing and pepperoncinis put it over the top. For dessert, we had the chocolate chunk cookie and the fry bread. Both were heavenly and tasted homemade. The fry bread order was massive and we barely put a dent in it. The on-tap cider was peach and was magnificent! The staff was friendly and attentive and we have nothing bad to say about it. Service & ambiance - 5/5. Server was great. Food came out quickly. The Pi Bites were amazing! Save the cheese to dip your crusts in. Crust was a 4/5 for me, toppings were 5/5. I wouldn't say it's an overly kid friendly restaurant, but they did have kids menus and were super great to our kids. The vibe just felt like more of an adult atmosphere, imo. That being said, we would bring our kids back. Might be my new favorite pizza place! read more

I had high hopes for this visit to Republic PI yesterday November 4, 2021 but it turned into a non-visit. My wife and I arrived just after 6 PM and there were several open tables from what we could see. The fellow working the front counter said it would be just a few minutes as they were clearing off some tables at the moment. He came back after about five minutes and got us and said we could sit at the bar, not in the bar area but at the bar. He escorted us to those stools. I tried to sit down but they have no overhang on their bar at all. I'm 6 foot 5. I physically can't sit at a bar that doesn't hang over my lap and eat dinner. It's not physically possible for me to do so. As George Carlin said one time, "I don't bend that way". We immediately got up and told him that we would need a proper table. He snarled and said it would be 35 to 45 minutes. A quick glance showed several table still empty around us in the bar area and in the restaurant. There was no one waiting in the lobby to be seated. I don't get it. I wasn't in the mood to argue with him and given his smug tone I just told him goodbye and we walked out. I will not be back. I've got better things to do than deal with short tempered restaurant workers who don't know the first thing about service. Kind of a shame. It looks like a nice place for the five minutes I was there. read more

Went here on a Friday afternoon, parking was nuts. There wasn't options, so we parked up by Ross. We were sat inside but changed our minds and wanted to sit outside, the servers had no problem with that. We ordered an appetizer, the bread bites. They were good. They taste like fried bread with beer cheese dipping sauce. We also got a flight of beers to share. There were quite a few options to chose from. They had some very tasty beers. Then we got the personal pizza and salad lunch special. It was perfect for lunch. We each had a slice or two leftover. I got the Wilson but with bbq sauce instead of garlic sauce. It was good but I expected the potatoes to be more crunchy or crispy which they were not. They were under the cheese so they were slightly soggy which was weird but definitely not bad. Beautiful restaurant great pizza and appetizers but the star of this establishment is truly beer. I highly recommend the nitro stout if they have it on tap even if you're not a dark beer drinker you will love this one. Similar to the flying goat, but not to say ! "let's not get it twisted" #Respect the chef‍‍. Yes, same owners but they do things just a little different. Great service friendly courteous staff. For sure my favorite pizza place on the South Hill. We shared the balsamic Brussel sprouts and pi bites. Both were delicious. I think by this point, I've had almost every pizza on the menu. My favorite are: The South Hill, Dalton, and The Bluff. Every time I have been here or had takeout, the food has been superb. The restaurant also has a nice vibe with the gorgeous wood, music, and happening bar. read more
