Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.

An Unforgettable Evening at Zuzu If you're looking for a…read moredining experience that checks every box -- incredible food, flawless service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere -- Zuzu in Detroit is your answer. Last night's dinner was nothing short of magnificent. We started with oysters and calamari that set the tone immediately -- fresh, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. The shrimp was equally impressive. But the real showstoppers were the main courses: the lamb chops were cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor, and the branzino was delicate, flaky, and seasoned just right. Even the Brussels sprouts -- often an afterthought -- were a standout side that had everyone at the table talking. What truly elevated the evening was our server, Cel. His knowledge of the menu was exceptional, his recommendations were spot-on, and he went above and beyond by offering us -- a native couple and their cousins visiting from California -- genuine, thoughtful suggestions on things to do and see around Detroit. That kind of personal touch is rare and deeply appreciated. Zuzu isn't just a great Detroit restaurant -- it's a destination. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in town.

They have a menu shortage so we all shared menus which not a big deal, but was strange and made sense why it took so long to get menus after seating. We all ordered cocktails which were very good. We all ordered a bunch of apps as well, the sushi was delicious, the spicy tuna crispy rice was also a favorite. We all ordered entrees which ended up being lack luster. The Asian pepper steak came out cold, which they did remake. The steak used seem to be trimmings of the steaks. It was very tough and fatty. If I have on piece of advice DO NOT ORDER THE TABLE SIDE FRIED RICE. It came out after we were already half way done with our meals, and it's literally on a chilis fajita skillet. They charge $36 and the portion size was maybe 1.5 cups of rice. (See picture, no one had taken any off of the plate) They dump raw egg on it that doesn't fully cook with the skillet, and the sauce on top was so gross. Overall would stop in for some drinks /apps / sushi. But would not get an entree.

We had reservations and when we walked in it was quite empty but it is a very inviting environment, the music was soft and smooth and the people were nice. The menu is small but it does have some interesting menu items. It was very quiet inside, kind of awkwardly quiet and we sat next to people but the tables are quite close together, we could literally hear everything they were saying and they could hear us and we were talking in whispers. For a cocktail, I ordered the Enamorah Old Fashioned, if you are a bourbon lover then you will love this, it is a Woodford Reserve with the cherry cask taste, it was amazing! Definitely worth it. Then I ordered the Short Rib Bao Buns and Teriyaki Bourbon Chicken (got to keep the bourbon flowing). Now before I mention the food I have to say first that it isn't too often, maybe literally once every couple years that food shocks me because I have eaten every food type you can think of so there isn't too much that can intrigue me to want to try it, ok so now let's carry on with the review. So the Short Rib Bao Buns were nothing short of perfection. The pineapples gave it a phenomenal tropical taste and the bun itself was soft, chewy and buttery, the rib meat was tender, flavorful and easy to chew. I can't describe the taste you just have to try it yourself. Now let's get to this Teriyaki Bourbon Chicken. Mannnnnn, let me tell ya, there isn't foods that give me goosebumps much but this did it. It came with Collard Greens, the chicken and Mashed Potatoes and then had a an extra dribble of teriyaki sauce to mix with it. The Chicken & the Collard Greens went well together, the mashed potatoes & the Chicken went well together, the mashed potatoes & the collard greens went well together, I mean everything was top tier as you could want it. Now they do have gratuity already added but it is definitely worth the meal. This is a place you have to come and try and then wonder what you're gonna have next time when you come because it is THAT good. If I could give this 7 stars I would.

I got the robata sampler: some notable standouts were: -the triggerfish jerky: thin cut and with a hint of sweetness, the fish flavor was delicate and tasty. It reminded me a little of the dried cuttlefish I ate growing up in Hawaii, but a much more refined version - chicken meatball: this was juicy, hearty, and had great flavor. The teriyaki sauce was flavorful without being too sweet - shrimps: these were expertly grilled. They were tender inside, and had a nice hint of charcoal flavor from the grilling - pork belly: this was a great cut of meat. Very decadent and rich, with lots of umami from marinating before grilling We also got some appetizers that were quite serviceable. Overall I'd give this place a 4.5 stars if I could.

We started with chicken karaage bites and calamari. Both had delicious dipping sauces and were nicely fried. Both apps came out very quickly and were hot. I'd give the apps a 4/5. Everyone really enjoyed the udon noodles, most of us got miso butter pan fried. This meal was super flavorful and had a lot of the miso butter! The noodles were perfectly cooked and there were a lot of the extras added on top for additional flavors. The ginger tori soup was also enjoyed. The servers were on top of it, bringing us water carafes and everything we needed quickly. The restaurant is low lit which created a nice vibe. Obsessed with the stained glass entryway! The restaurant is located in the beautiful area of Corktown with the Grand Central Station just steps away, giving you something to do while you wait for your table. Typically very easy to find parking.

We've sat at the bar a few times, but honestly, it's a great experience either way. As a vegan, I really appreciate the variety of options. The fried tofu has an excellent texture and is served with perfectly fluffy rice. I usually go for the vegetable spring rolls-crispy and paired with a fantastic dipping sauce-and the sweet and sour tofu, which is always a standout. My husband typically orders the sesame chicken and is always pleased. Service is consistently quick and enjoyable. While prices are a bit on the higher side (around $20+ per entrée), the quality, flavor, and convenience, especially before a game, make it well worth it. If you're up for a short walk and want a delicious pregame meal, this is a great spot to check out!

It's little changes like that that elevate the dish beyond other regular sushi offerings. It was so appreciated! We ordered the spicy tuna roll. It had the excellent tuna and then they put yum sauce on it. That was odd because it masked the beautiful taste of the bluefin tuna, and that made it a miss for me. If you order, do yourself a favor and tell them no sauce. The dragon roll had real snow crab inside and eel and avocado on top. This also had a crunchy topping that I would tell them to hold if I did it again. It didn't really add anything to the dish and it obscurred the taste of the tender eel a bit. Not until I broke open a piece to isolate the snow crab could I truly appreciate the delicate flavor. It got a little lost inside the vibrant roll. The red dragon roll was well balanced and exactly what I was expecting. The bluefin tuna could easily shine on top of this roll. And it did. It was rich and succulent. The tigerlilly roll was lovely and topped with salmon and roe. It says on the menu it was torched. Ours was not. It was perfect the way we got it though, so I wouldn't change anything. I also ordered eel sashimi and the avocado, asparagus and cucumber roll for something refreshing. We all shared the rolls as we had drinks at the bar. Our bartender was attentive, friendly, and brought the sushi along with serving us our drinks. The lychee martini was a hit. What an interesting and slightly tart flavor! It was a light-hearted and fun time and I would go back in a heartbeat .

The layout includes three bars: the main bar, the sushi bar, and the tiki bar. The crab rangoon cheese katsu sticks were as good as they sound. I was worried there wouldn't be much crab, but that wasn't the case. The lobster tail robata was easy to peel, and complemented well by its accompaniments. The pork belly robata was tender, while the tare added some sweetness. Of the two, I preferred the pork belly. I've had four of the six bao buns. The chicken had a char flavor, and the steak sauce added some welcome moisture. The filet was tender, with a bold but not overbearing garlic aioli. The pork belly was also tender, glazed with a sweet honey, and balanced by some savory pickles. The sausage had a nice snap, and the Fresno peppers gave it a bit of a kick. The filet and pork belly were my two favorites. The sushi is some of the best I've had locally. The shikotsu roll (wagyu and bone marrow) was incredibly rich and buttery. $36 may seem steep, but it's the most memorable sushi roll I've ever had. The toro (fatty tuna) to caviar was also very impressive, and had soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Here's how I rank the nigiri I've tried: 1. Tamago (omelette) 2. Madai (sea bream) 3. Aji (horse mackerel) 4. Shima Aji (striped jack) 5. Ikura (salmon roe) 6. Uni (sea urchin) Lastly, for dessert, I've had the key lime pie. It was remarkably fluffy and honestly one of the best slices I've had. Simply put, TigerLily blew me away. I can confidently say it's one of my favorite restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. I'll be back soon to try the brunch, noodle, and sandwich options.
