Used to be great when Pamela was there and running the show. These newbies that just rolled in will lie to you over and over without batting an eyelash. Three times they have told us they will call us with a price for an item that "just hit the floor". All three times it was a lie, we never heard and the products just sat there. The owners should be aware as it's likely there is some shady business going on between the workers here who may be getting paid off to suppress sales unless it's to the right people. My pupils dilate and my dart back and forth looking for new TREASURES whenever I walk through the door of Reside. When shopping I'm playing defense against other patrons, eyeing what is mine ... scuttling around the shop like I'm Gollum mumbling "my precious ... my precious ... my precious .... " I love the people who run Reside -- Pam Watts and Colin Glatzel. They are so so so fabulous. (Sometimes I worry they find me rude as I have to do my scan of the shop before I can properly engage as a human being and say hello.) To me, Reside is an oasis in Cambridge. It's a little slice of NYC, New Orleans, Europe, Africa .... the merchandise is sourced from all over the globe, mostly hailing from the estates of artistically-inclinced and well-traveled beings. Visionaries with taste in abounds who bought things that were designed to last and got better with age. This spot isn't a stuffy antique shop or an insufferable MCM boutique ... it's a way of life and seeing the world. It's for people that don't want to live in a period film that want to mix pieces from varying periods, places, cultures so long as they are beautiful and striking in some intangiable way. It's more enlightened? Also ... the vibe is great. Reside feels like a community, it's where I can go and know I'll see a friend. It's like teleporting to NYC where I know I can share a story about something ridicilous and we can have a laugh. I've also been in awe of both Pam's and Colin's customer service skills. They are so kind, real, genuine, helpful, patient and caring. They remember what I'm looking for and call me when it appears! They help me make the world of my dreams! While in line to buy MY TREASURES I've often overheard patrons be ultra nasty and demanding and totally out of touch with reality to the propriators of this shop and it made my heart BREAK. Cambridge is filled with self-important, entitled, demanding human beings. When a city has such a high ratio of valevictorians and high-achievers who have been told they are THE BEST this is bound to happen. Colin and Pam handle these interactions with such professionalism. They don't bat and eye or complain. They move onwards and upwards. Whereas I'm standing there thinking "did that person really just say what I think they did?" thinking I'd have liked to swung a bat fand booted such bad manners into another zipcode. Come to Reside if you're a good person that loves beautiful things, good people and good manners and keeping it real. Also: Colin Glatzel should be doing interior design on the side. He's going to be a legend someday. Call him up and give him a shot and I'm sure his work will be divine. read more

I've lived near this shop for many years and admired their offerings through the windows. I'd inherited an item from my family which I thought would be of interest to them so I sent an email describing it. They responded promptly and offered to review it for me; a few days after I dropped it off, they wrote back with an estimated sales price, and offered 50% back to me should it sell. I'd heard horror stories about consignment of high-end clothing at some shops in the area, so I was very pleasantly surprised both by that very fair offer and their extremely friendly and communications. Furthermore, when I called with the news that a family member had requested that I not sell the item, they were more than kind, saying that they were glad it would stay in my family (instead of pointing out that I had in fact wasted their time!). I made a special effort to visit this store today for a total of twenty-five minutes. During that time I was never greeted and never asked if I needed help. My presence was NEVER acknowledged (even on my way out). I found this a little strange because I was the ONLY customer. The woman behind the desk, presumably Pamela, did see me. I stood right in front of her ready to inquire about a small table I found interesting. My time and money are too precious to put up with this sort of behavior. This store screams visit me to all Dwell and AT fans. The Danish mid-century furniture pieces are just too cool. If you're looking for a Wegner or Eames type piece and are too lazy to scour local antique stores or craigslist, Reside is definitely your one stop shop for everything mid-century. I just cannot justify purchasing anything here since there are a couple of other shops around that occassionally sell mid-century pieces at reasonable prices. read more

I have bought a few things things here over the years. While they have beautiful things, their prices are steep. But, I am willing to pay it when I can if they have what I want. I recently visited and asked to have some images sent of things in the warehouse (and indicated I needed to make a decision soon) and was promised they would be. Couple of days, no pictures, so I called and left a message with my cell number indicating I also wanted to buy some other pieces and wanted to hear from them to discuss pricing. No response. One less customer for them. There are enough people in the world who want my money I see no reason to give it to a shop that so obviously doesn't. Good for them that they can ignore customers and stay in business! I found exactly what I wanted at half the price in CT and got a response to my e-mail inquiries within two hours. Gift-worthy Goodies Came in here to take a look the store tempted me from the street. As a former Dwell subscriber I am easily enticed by a store as such. Found a handful of gifts for family members, and found the staff to be very pleasant. One of the items I had considered was priced a little higher than I thought it should be which I mentioned to the sales person who said she could adjust the price. Apparently the item was on consignment and had been there for a while. I enjoyed my visit here and would recommend stopping in if you are in the area. Holy cow I love this store! I'm a design geek. Particularly 20th century modernism, and specifically Scandinavian modern. Reside has plenty of great examples for me to drool over. Pam, the owner, and her team are all very knowledgeable and have a great passion for what they do. Between in-store and phone traffic, they're very busy, so expect to share their attention. Right now, they have a Florence Knoll credenza with leather pulls. The thing just oozes 60s classiness. Someone's going to come in and scoop it up before I have the cash for it (I don't do credit, thankyouverymuch), but there's always something new to love. read more

They have a WONDERFUL selection of hard to find mid century modern pieces. They seem to do really well since they rarely have the same thing in there shop for more than a week. They also have a wish-list book and will search out items for you! I was lucky enough to score my prized butterfly Heywood Wakefild table with 6 dog-bone chairs there. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable and their prices are really fair for what they have and the great condition of everything. I love their selection of mid-century furnitures. Unfortunately my darling doesn't like mid-century style, so we can't really buy anything from the store. We must both like furnitures before buying them. Sniff. We did however buy a vintage Noritake plate sets. They were missing some pieces and had chips in some of the pieces, but $300 for lots and lots of plates and tea cups etc. It was totally worth it. They are cute white plates with little drawing prints of leaves in gold, pale green, and black. Now we use it daily, and makes such difference in presentation of food. Staffs I met there were usually very friendly and helpful too. Because of chips and missing pieces, the lady there gave us a discount and we paid $250+tax. read more

I am a sucker for mid-century furniture and this is candy shop for it. Located in Cambridge - with an additional warehouse offsite, this store has an incredible inventory. I have been searching for a Dutch overman sofa in the Boston area for about a year now, and recently the owner got 2 in. She recently had one reupholstered in white leather, but there is another one she has downstairs @ Reside which could be refinished to the future owners desire. She has great connects with fabric houses in the area (although I think she uses a fabric company out of Georgia for a lot of her great tweed selection). Everyone who works here is very knowledgable - and willing to answer any and all questions you have about any number of the elements of design represented in the furniture, textile, and jewelry that is stocked. read more

We have bought a number of pieces from Reside including a dining room table, chairs and couch. Pam made great recommendations for us, allowed us to take furniture home to test drive and even accepted two couches back from us months after buying them when it became clear that they were not right for the house. We feel that we got a great deal on the pieces, pricing can be flexible if you are buying a few things, and have returned again and again. When you buy, re-upholstering, but not fabric, is included in the price so that you can make the chair or couch match your room or other furniture. This can be a little slow, but the quality of the work is top notch. The selection is good with a combination of furniture, accents and artwork. Her inventory turns over frequently, so if you don't see anything one day in a month or less there will be plenty of new options. Never, ever use Phil, a carpenter who is associated with the company who is unprofessional, will screw you, do crappy work, over charge you, break promises and not call you back. I cannot stress that enough. Reside is wonderful and I would buy more if I have more money and space to put furniture. Working with Phil was one of the worst experience with a trades person that I have ever had. read more

Love this place. Nicely curated selection of MCM furniture, lighting & objet d'art. Also textiles and reupholstering. Prices are on the high side and directed at the interior designer set but offers are entertained. Excellent scratch and dent room in the basement. Bargains and projects can always be found there! We're huge fans of mid-century, danish, and modern furniture...so reside was like the candy store for us. Brimming with hard to find items, interesting textiles, pottery, and a ton of furniture that you want to fill your house with, there is no shortage of "oohs" and "aaahs" for us furniture nuts at reside. Sadly, our apartment is already brimming with stuff, as our collection of chairs has gotten quite ridiculous, so we were relegated to looking but not buying...wah wah. However, we did manage to find a lovely earthenware pitcher in mint condition to give as a gift to a relative. The owner of the store was really charming and clearly had a great eye and a love for design. She was reading an article from Stuff Magazine about her daughter, who was (ironically) featured in the "reside" section, and was just so proud to show it to us. She also traded some stories with my boyfriend, who works in high-end residential consturction, about finishes, etc. after we were admiring the white patina on one of the old wooden couch frames at her store. All in all, Reside is for those who truly love, appreciate, and seek good design. I will absolutely be back...hopefully soon, this time not just to browse, but to buy. oh! ps. My husband and I have purchased multiple pieces from Reside over the last few years including a teak dining table, teak chairs (which Pam had reupholstered for us), a leather sofa, end table and lots (LOTS) of odds & ends. We couldn't be happier with Pams customer service, she's very sweet, almost always been able to adjust pricing and she's extremely knowledgable about all of her pieces. I tried to bring Reside some framed artwork for consignment or even give it away. The sales associate was less than gracious and essentially "showed me the door". These were notable mid-century pieces, which I had no use for. He will never know what he passed up. He refused to let me bring the artwork (which was in my car at the time) in the shop. I went in to Reside and was all set and ready to purchase a lovely lounge chair for $1600.00. The women who was working there said, I will go down stairs and check to see if there is a matching ottoman. I waited patiently for 10 whole minutes while she stopped to have a very casual conversation with someone that she knew and never checked on the ottoman, never checked back in with me and basically just ignored me. It was really quite rude. So, long story short.....when I returned home, I was so glad that I had not purchased this lounge from Reside as I had found the same exact one on Ebay in better condition for half the price! Now, I regularly purchase mid century pieces, don't mind paying the big prices but not going to support Reside in Cambridge in the future or ever. I much prefer to give my money to a place that acts professionally towards it's customers. read more

I brought some chairs to this place for restoration and they did an AMAZING job. The guy they have does fantastic work. What they sell is great too, but they also do a great job refinishing. I totally recommend them as a resource for any kind of refinishing job or repair. Two antique chairs, and you can't even tell where the wood was broken. read more
