Usually drop in here before and maybe after a movie. The inside area is alot smaller than the Walnut Creek location and the outside area is a lot larger being at an outdoor mall. Given it's an outdoor mall, the people watching is great. Also, a water fountain close by creates a nice vibe. I think the wine list is a little smaller than the DubC location. Could be wrong. The food menu appears to be the same, and they have quite a few beers. Unfortunately we have not had food here due to cook issues each time we show up. I think the wine service opens before the food service on most days. Personally, we like a little food with our wine. Truth be told, I wasn't drinking the evening I visited Residual Sugar but my friends enjoyed their glasses of bubbly. It was the night before thanksgiving when I visited and the bar was offering a happy hour holiday half price discount. It made sampling some high end champagne and sparking wine amazingly inexpensive. The ambience was great and the service was friendly and attentive. Such a cute little wine bar! Been here a few times now and I'm so happy that this spot is nearby to satisfy my wine cravings. I'm a huge fan of their Walnut Creek location and I was so thrilled when I found out that they had opened this location in the Veranda. Finally got around to stopping by and all I can say is; 'Tis BOMBSY!!! Me likey, me likey a lot! I've only visited during COVID and the inside of the bar is off limits. Their outdoor patio is open for first come/first serve seating. You order at the bar and they'll call your name when everything is ready. Considering the circumstances, I think that they've been doing a really wonderful job. Usually when I've come here, it has just been a two person operation. The line is usually pretty long, especially on a Friday or weekend night. But they do the best that they can to accommodate everyone and to clean in between the breaks in the lines. Their patio is so stinkin' cute! It's situated right smack dab in the middle of the Veranda, so you'll have a wonderful view of the water works show and all of the people watching that your little heart could ever desire. For the most part, the tables are spaced out farther than 6 feet. I love that they have the water misters when it's hot out. I will say that there were some people walking around without masks on. But if you're familiar with the Veranda setup, that's kind of hard to control since it's a big shopping center with people walking around left and right. The wine selection is actually pretty nice. You can order by the glass or bottle, and they also have lots of beer on tap if you're feeling a little hoppy. The wine and beer menu changes from time to time, but I always manage to find something that I like. They've also got some delicious light bites. My absolute favorite one to get is the Cowgirl Creamy Fromage Blanc. I used to order this faithfully at their Walnut Creek location, but now I've been getting it here. With the honey and those crackers?! It's so damn good. The wine pours are always generous and the people working here are always so kind and full of great recommendations. They'll let you sample the wine before purchasing. It's definitely a fun little local hangout spot. For the space they have, RS did an amazing job with this location! Came in a Friday afternoon and ordered the 5x5 flight and some beer and wine. The inside seating area is a little small but nice and cozy. My group of five ended up sitting at the tables outside near the space heaters and we were just fine. Thank goodness for the space heaters though. Everything we ordered was great, we devoured the flight and left very satisfied. The service was exceptional as well, very friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. Happy hour is M-F 3-6pm I believe and all beers are $5! Good for small groups, nice location, and beautiful interior. It was sad to pay as much as we did to get handed our "bar bite" foods in to go boxes with plastic cutlery. We expected to pay over $100 for it all for two people but you would think you would get a plated presentation of a cheeseboard and such on actual dining plates or platters. But no. I absolutely adore Residual Sugar's original location in Walnut Creek, and so to see they opened up another in Concord was a dream come true! Along with the Veranda shopping center being a great location for a wine bar, this location really fits beautifully into its corner. Under non-COVID circumstances, dozens of people can fit inside the small space (though only about a dozen can sit). Another great feature that (I THINK) started during outdoor dining times is they opened up a wall to allow for over the counter wine purchasing by the glass, and sitting outside in the Veranda's extensive patio area, enjoying the fountain, listening to music on a nice day - it's a true joy. Not as cozy and intimate as the Walnut Creek location, but a great energy all its own. A little pricey, many glasses of red are around $20, so approach a visit as perhaps a warm up before dinner, or an excuse to have your wine and cheese date in swanky digs. Unless you're a high roller, not an ideal spot to linger and drink for hours. But on that note, they do sell food! Their finest offering in my humble opinion is Brillat Savarin cheese - it's about 1 click away from just being butter, it's the greatest cheese EVER. Order a glass of your preferred grape juice, tack on a cheese plate, and you will be transported to a finer and lovelier place. I'm very glad Concord has a wine bar! It's about time we rose in the ranks a bit. The Veranda shopping center has helped make Concord a more desirable destination, and I love driving 5 minutes in my town to enjoy a classy day worthy of a big city. We have always made it a point to come to this wine bar before a movie or after dinner. And tonight was absolutely no different. The fire pit right next to the water fountain has always been a super nice touch, the up until now excellent service, it's a very great ambience to end your evening. So as we walked into the bar this evening before the door could shield out the icy air behind us we were sharply met with an equally icy "We are closed". Confused we both turned around to look at the hours plus what we have just read. And even reading it backwards stated the kitchen closes at 9 PM in the bar closes at 10 PM. Being that it was 9:01 PM we were simply confused and has a rounded to retort "plus I already did my count" was sarcastically snapped across the bar. We have been fans of this bar for quite a while now but honestly with this level of customer service do not see ourselves returning. This is a small wine bar tucked into The Veranda kitty corner to Barnes & Noble. On a chilly Saturday night, the seating around the fire pit was PACKED! Possibly because it's directly in front of the colorful water feature. There is a covered patio on the other side with heat lamps, which were not on the evening that I was there. A patron actually had to turn one on and move it to their desired table! Inside, the wine bar is quite narrow. There is bar seating on the left, another shorter bar table facing the windows on the right, and few tables toward the back. I found the space quite cramped. The door was left open, so I had to keep my jacket on. I was also bumped several times while seated, by people squeezing by. It took a bit of time for the bartender to notice us, but once he walked over and took our order, the beverages quickly arrived. I was disappointed that the beers on the menu were more expensive than those on their online menu. The selection was also different from their online menu, which appeared to be seasonal. However, the wine list prices appeared to be the same, but with a different selection as well. Both the wine and the beer were okay, but not stand outs. I wouldn't order either again. We sat out on the patio area as there was a chalkboard sign which read have a seat and a server will help you. Guess what? Not true. They have a pretty good wine selection and the guy was really nice about letting us trying different kinds to see which one we liked. I believe I settled on a red blend and my friend went with a zinfandel. We also ordered a creme brulee which was delicious but I'm not sure if I will pay $7 again for something that was very small. I'm a hit or miss kind of wine girl. Sometimes I like it sometimes I don't. You will very rarely find me actually ordering any type of wine when I'm out. On this particular night we could not pass up sitting with a beer and for myself, a Prosecco, right by the beautiful fire pit located right outside of Residual Sugar. We've been here twice and usually get the same thing and do the same thing. On a weeknight relaxation night there is nothing like that bubbly outside by a fire. Came by Residual Sugar while waiting for a dinner reservation. It was a HOT day in concord around 530 PM or so only a few people there. I was greeted by the bartender who I found out name was Alex. He recommended a really nice soft cheese that had honey served with it it was sooo good! I got the moscato to drink and the description of it says perfect for a hot day...and that was sooo true it was very sweet like a dessert wine and that's what I love! Was really good! I also tried the "ode to lulu" rose which was tasty but not as good as the moscato. A lot of people coming in knew Alex's name that's really nice he has such a rapport with the guests. I left and actually ended up forgetting my phone and Alex came out into the HEAT (and it was really hot) and RAN to find me and return my phone to me. Losing my phone would have been absolutely terrible and he saved me a lot of trouble and problems THANK YOU ALEX!! The staff are super friendly, and even though the space is welcoming and shockingly accommodating given the overall size of the establishment, strangely no one ever seems to choose to consume their drink inside the bar itself. Ah well, more seating for me! I'm not a wine drinker, so I only come here to snag a beer while I wait for my Tesla to charge. I know I shouldn't drink before I drive. But one pint of 5% guava sour isn't going to intoxicate a seasoned alcoholic like myself. What it is going to do, though, is hit the spot. In fact, they have several local beers on tap, and if indoor seating isn't your thing, they're located near some seriously comfy digs just next to the fountains, as well as ample seating on the covered patio with mock fire places for the cooler evenings.
