Greek Omelette with Hash Browns & Sourdough Toast
    Lauren P.

Bay Watch has great breakfast/brunch vibes right in downtown San Mateo. I love that they leave the coffee carafe and water pitcher on your table so you can refill your own beverages. The part I love the most is that they leave a drip catcher tray for the water pitcher so your table doesn't get wet from the condensation. Genius. Food was great. I ordered the Feta Omelette with hash browns, and my husband got the Popeye Omelette with bay potatoes. My omelette was stuffed with toppings, and I tasted feta in every bite. If you love Greek or Mediterranean food, go for this one. The hash browns were crispy and delicious. My husband loved his Popeye Omelette as well. Service was friendly and very kind. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that we had a Bay Watch gift card to use toward our bill, but the server at the register told us that they don't accept gift cards anymore. As far as I know, gift cards don't legally expire in California. I would appreciate some clarity on this. Beyond the gift card debacle, Bay Watch was a 5 star experience.

Bay Watch is a favorite of my friends and family- we've been coming for almost 10 years now. It feels like a classic diner and has a very cozy atmosphere, and the staff are always very nice and accommodating. We usually get seated right away- at most we've had to wait 10 min. They offer great breakfast options like eggs, omelettes, pancakes/waffles, but also some sandwiches and burgers for lunch. I ordered the avocado, bacon, tomato skillet that came with potatoes, cheese, 2 eggs and a side of toast. This is one of my go-tos, the over easy egg is always perfect! My friends ordered the cajun omelette and the popeye omelette- which both come with a bunch of hashbrowns and side of toast as well. The portions are pretty large and they bring a pot of coffee to your table for you to refill your own cups. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a pretty quick and reliable classic breakfast spot!

I don't remember what combo this was called but the amount that we got was a good amount for 2. I love the smoke sausage. It was pretty quite when we got there, after a while it got full. I had Tony as my server and he gave such good customer service. Also help me pick my food, he was very fast with it as well. Will be back soon!

Breakfast / Brunch diner in the heart of downtown san mateo. I've been going here since i was a kid and so happy to see Bay Watch in san mateo. They have a brunch menu to satisfy all your cravings from eggs to crepes to hot chocolate! Came here with my family of 5 on a saturday around 1pm and we're sat immediately. Got two decaf coffees and two regular (bottomless coffee) and then a variety of meals. A nice classic breakfast with fair prices and nice place to sit down. we noticed their uniform change, but excited our waitress still had the classic hawaiian shirt!

Came here with a friend. The interior has a classic diner feel. Service was fast and easy. They sat us quickly and came often to refill hot water and coffee. The food is good and hits the spot if you're looking for affordable and satisfying breakfast. Recommend for anyone in the area looking for a classic breakfast without breaking the bank.

It's my first time here at this location. Upon walking in, you're greeted right away by the hostess.  She was super polite and helpful in placing my order.  I'm not sure how long this place has been here, but it seems pretty modern and newly renovated.   It was pretty busy when I was here.     For my to go order, I ordered: 1. NY Steak and eggs, cooked medium with bay potatoes and sourdough bread -  The steak ended up being well done but was good with the grilled onions and mushrooms.   Bay potatoes tasted horrible,  it tasted like it was made earlier in the day and just warmed up.   I say that because that's how some potatoes taste when you reheat leftovers that you took home. 2.  Basic Omelette  with bacon, sausage, and cheese - ginormous, cheesy with bits of bacon and sausage 3.  French Toast - pretty tasty you didn't need syrup. 4.  Orange juice - tasted like it was freshly squeezed.  It was cold and refreshing.     The food and prices weren't too bad.  I wouldn't mind coming back.

The food was pretty tasty, serving sizes were large. The service was quick(even though the cafe was full) and the server was attentive. The cafe is cute, but very loud and crowded.

I love this place. I love Jan, the waitress we've been "seeing" for geez maybe 20 years?! The food is consistent and pretty good - better than a diner and the prices have stayed pretty reasonable. Anytime my kids see a doctor or dentist in the area, they want to be taken to breakfast before I take them to school. Fair enough! Time with my boys! Now they will eat their whole plate of food, a denver omelette for example, and then they will half of a short stack and the rest of the food on my plate. They politely save the rest of the pancakes for the kid that didn't "get" to go to the doctor that day. They are good boys. And this is a good place for breakfast - quick, personable waitstaff and good food better than a diner!

I keep coming back to this place. It's my favorite breakfast place in San Mateo when I come to visit my neice. The service is good. I love the large bay windows that I can look out. It's like a place you'd see in the movies where they are sitting by a large window. I have yelped this place before. I love the veggie scramble.

Their version of chicken and waffles

First time here and I'll be back. They provide a carafe of coffee and water pitcher on your table which made my experience a winner. I got chicken and waffles and it was actually chicken tenders and a waffle. Really good flavor on the chicken, juicy and not dry. Waffle was fluffy and complimented the chicken.

I've eaten here several times for Breakfast, it never disappoints. The Portions are large service friendly. They are usually busy so it make take a few minutes to get to order. The food comes out fast. I had a Popeye omelet with spinach bacon and cheese, delicious. Had to take a to go Do yourself a favor try this place

Good diner option in San Mateo. My coworkers enjoy going here and I've only been once. They have a large selection of breakfast and lunch foods. You can't really mess up eggs in my opinion. I got their bacon onion skillet. The portion size was large. Overall I liked the skillet. The onions were a little too raw for me though.

What we ordered: Prosciutto Di Parma Arugula Pizza (+ burrata) = 100000/10 FOOD: 9/10 Served hot, fresh, and made to order, this pizza truly hit the spot. The crust had those delicious wood-fired charred bits and was the perfect thickness, not too thin, not too thick. The burrata (worth the extra charge!) was rich and creamy, while the arugula added the perfect fresh, crunchy bite. Every ingredient worked so well together. I'm literally salivating as I type this! Paired with some good wine? Chef's kiss! SERVICE: 9/10 Every staff member we interacted with struck the perfect balance of being friendly and laid-back. We sat at the bar, where the bartender also served as our waiter. He was personable, kept up a great conversation, and was attentive without ever making us feel rushed, all while mixing drinks and taking care of other guests. AMBIANCE: 9/10 Spacious, clean, and incredibly inviting. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and all the train station-inspired decor throughout the restaurant. The large windows let in so much natural light that it's an even better place to sit back and enjoy a meal. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in the area.

We tried the following during our meal: * Kanpachi Kinilaw - a bit of a spicy kick, super fresh crudo, a flavorful mix of fresh, light ingredients * Bread & Butter - can't go wrong here, warm bread with creamy housemade butter * Radiatore Alla Zozzana - house made pasta, freshly made red sauce with housemade sausage. sausage has a bit of a kick but still kid friendly. * Dry-Aged Tavern Burger - cooked perfectly, a mix of different types of meat, including some steak pieces in it, which was interesting. gooey cheese and house sauce on top tied it all together. served with fries on the side. *Fish + Chips - one big chunk of freshly battered and fried fish. great for splitting between kids. For dessert, we split the Limoncello Tiramisu and 2 chocolate chip cookies. We thought the tiramisu would have more of a lemon forward flavor profile but it was much more subtle and pretty close to a traditional tiramisu with a hint of lemon woven in. The chocolate chip cookies were warm, soft, with a nice sprinkle of salt on top. Overall, great meal and would highly recommend.

When they changed their meat, me and my friends were just so disappointed. The place is now gone, but I had been waiting for another burger that comes around that comes close. This burger doesn't look like anything special, there isn't a lot to it, but the ingredients speak for itself. One bite, and it gave me flash backs of that Viognier burger. I'll be back over and over again as this burger doesn't change. Ask for some extra burnt onion aioli on the side for the fries The restaurant itself is fairly small and fills up quickly. The items can sell out nightly. While that part is annoying, it means they aren't over buying and the ingredients are fresher. They are buying based on expected sales, not bulk. When we went the pork chop, half chicken and Zabaglione were sold out. We had the chicory salad, kentucky fried mushrooms, Radiatore pasta, burgers, and one person got the steak frites. Everything we tried was great. I'd order any one of those again. The pasta had a kick to it which I liked, but if you don't like a little spice, maybe avoid it. We ended with the lemoncello tiramisu. While the other two really liked it, I thought the texture was great, but I thought the lemoncello overpowered the dessert and prefer a more traditional tiramisu. For drinks, we tried the espresso martini, amaro sour, and oaxacan old fashion. The old fashion is the only one I tried that I wouldn't get again. I love mezcal, but this cocktail didn't seem to represent it well. The smokiness was lost, the flavors were muted, just not a lot going on.
