The best food on the on the bayou! We LOVE eating at Jan's. We get the onion rings which are so crispy and yummy to start Everytime! Everything they have for lunch is always a 10/10! The service is wonderful. The location is wonderful but they are moving right down the street to a new location soon! Always a home feeling with this restaurant. I've been eating her since I was a little girl. Seriously you can't go wrong! Some of our favs other than lunch - Matthew special, Roast beef poboy, fried fish, Jordan special, any of the phillys, hot sausage club, and so much more!

The food was delicious! Some of our favorite on our trip! The service was wonderful and the restaurant was clean! Most importantly the staff were friendly and welcoming!

We almost missed it. We were looking for a traditional restaurant in a building. The GPS indicated we were in the right area. And then, fortunately, we spotted their temporary sign on the side of the road. Unbeknownst to us when we were visiting the region, Jan's building was destroyed in a storm a while back and now they are operating several days a week as a "pop up" at the Jules Nunez Lafitte Fisheries Market Pavilion. It may not be a bricks and mortar operation at the moment, but the food and service were top notch and I highly recommend stopping when they are open. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and they kindly explained the menu, the daily specials, and their procedure. I ordered a catfish po'boy with fries and sweet tea. My companion ordered something similar. After pouring our drinks we were invited to find a seat on the spacious deck overlooking the inter-coastal waterway. Barges and boats passing by made for some good photos and videos as we waited for our food. When the lunches were ready, a staff member brought them out to us. The fried catfish was decently breaded and crispy but not greasy. The fish itself was firm yet moist and pleasant on the palate. The baguette was nicely crusty. The sandwich was finished with the requisite lettuce, tomato and remoulade. The fries were generic but fine. Though the ketchup on the table was in bottles with a familiar brand name on the label, it seemed to be doctored up with additional seasonings to give it a bit of a cajun kick -- though not a hot and spicy one. A splash of Louisiana hot sauce kicked it up another notch. Jan's was just what we were looking for, and I'm glad we found it.

The food is good and the workers are friendly. The 2 stars because I asked for no lettuce and no tomatoes. Yes I know I can pick it off but the tomato juice is soaked in the bread and the shrimp batter. I will go back but checking the order before I leave.

Not a sit down traditional restaurant yet (they're building their restaurant now) but the food was really good. Got off the airboat and it was less than 10 min away. We had the catfish po boy yum!! and hamburger. Fries were hot and fresh. Seating is picnic tables on a covered dock right on the shipping channel. Pretty cool to watch the boats pushing the huge barges along. They'll bring your food to you and come around to check on you and refill sweet tea (our love language).

Our boat guide recommended this hidden gem to us for a place to get some home style Cajun food. Seafood platter - fried catfish, fried oysters, stuffed shrimp, crab cake, and fried shrimp served with French fries, toast, and a side salad with your dressing of choice. Overall, this small hole-in-the-wall does not disappoint. We wished we lived here to enjoy their food more often!

    Crawfish pie

Did a swamp tour nearby and worked up an appetite afterwards-very happy we came across Jan's! Ordered the crawfish pies and a shrimp poboy which was more than enough for 2 people. Crawfish pies were a delicious appetizer with Cajun flavor and the shrimp in our poboy tasted so fresh! Sweet tea was so refreshing and all hit the spot! Staff was so sweet and helpful when ordering. Beautiful scenery right on the water. Definitely a place to come and try!

Kristi and I split the catfish special. I had catfish, a shrimp stew over mashed potatoes and french bread. Rick had the hangover burger with fries. We also shared the shrimp pie appetizer. The shrimp pies were outstanding. They make a homemade sauce that is wonderful . The catfish special was outstanding. We loved the shrimp stew too. The tiny shrimp melted in your mouth. Their building was destroyed in the flood and they are serving out of a pavilion until the new place is ready. You have to try this restaurant it is amazing.

A nice quiet spot away from the tourist scene. Very nice staff and good food. If you're in the area, make sure to check this place out.

From Indiana and visiting family. Exactly what I was hoping for. Friendly welcoming staff, large portions, delicious meal. I ordered shrimp/ oyster po boy, bread was crispy, chewy and sweet. Plenty of oysters/fried shrimp and perfectly dressed. Kids had catfish and fries and cleaned their plates.

Man-o-man- After a long day of fishing, stomach growling, we found the sweet spot. Great local restaurant, allows fisherman to bring their fresh catch and they'll prepare it any way you like. We called ahead and Jan had a spot for six waiting for us. The only thing missing from perfect hospitality was cold beers waiting on the table, but omg, Jan was so nice and helpful throughout our meal, it made the experience outstanding. Enough of the atmosphere, this place is good-perfect. We had onion rings to start, light batter, vidallia onions, sweet and crunchy with some hot sauce to cap it off, yummy. Next the seafood gumbo, great flavor, meaty, and dipping the OR, was a great touch. Just the right size to prep for the main course. We had sautéed, and fried redfish, catfish, and sheep head, all were . The sautéed had a slightly crispy layer of Cajun seasoning, with the fish moist, so it melted in you mouth, add a wash of beer and I just shook my head how good it tasted. The fries had a spicy light batter, that went well with or with hot sauce. The is nothing better than fish 6 hours out of the water...just delicious...but wait there's more... You have a sweet tooth, start with a sweet tea, but save room for the.....bread, damn it was so good, pudding....drizzled with a rum sauce, it was the perfect ending to a great meal... Find this place...it's hot great food...

But watching the entire team sit down together for a meal an hour before service told me everything I needed to know about the leadership and the values of this company. People matter here. You can see why the sandwiches are as good as they are. You can feel why the king cake is worth the wait. This team operates like a family; kind to one another, intentional, and connected. Once we pulled up to an empty parking lot during lunchtime, we questioned how it had 4 stars. Boutte's Bayou is located towards the back of a river barge. It has a riverish diner feel inside, with maximum river bayou decor. The kitchen is hidden away in the middle by a curtain or sheet; we couldn't tell. There was only one person working, taking orders, and cooking food. The menus are handwritten; each is a little different, but as of the date, the same menu as the Yelp photos. None of the food was fresh, all fried on site behind the curtained kitchen. It also all tasted like something we could buy from Costco or Sam's Club and fry ourselves. Drinks were provided via pop/soda cans. Plastic wear is provided for eating via a large bin on the table. The Cook/Server/checkout person running our credit card for payment had an issue; there was no wifi, then Wi-Fi, some system error, some square event, then some Venmo issue... this felt very sketchy, with the number of times the cards were scanned, and then the owner was called, who asked for the card over the phone. It was a very weird experience. We ended up paying in what little cash we did have.

As part of the Restaurant Impossible episode the previous building had undergone a renovation and menu revamp all of which was lost in the hurricane. The current location is operating out of a "floating structure" with the restaurant downstairs while the upstairs has hotel rooms for rent along with a bar area with a pool table. They have a smaller menu and no longer serve alcohol as of my last visit. I'm not sure if they are using this floating structure as the new preeminent location or if they intend to rebuild a new building where the old restaurant was. The crab cakes were perfect -- crispy outside, sweet and fresh inside, no filler, no shortcuts. The turtle soup was rich and deeply seasoned in that only-in-Louisiana way that makes you close your eyes on the first spoonful. And the étouffée? Silky, buttery, loaded with flavor. Every single dish tasted like someone's grandmother made it with love and a lifetime of knowing exactly what she was doing. But beyond the food -- this place is just beautiful. The venue was PERFECT for myself and my (now) husband's personalities... super rustic and charming with so much character! I loved that the wedding packages are pretty much all-inclusive -- delicious buffet, open bar, full run of the venue (ceremony and reception), decorations, servers, bartenders, etc. The only thing you really need to provide is your cake, DJ/band and any additional decorations you choose (but trust me when I say you don't need any). I was so nervous about planning my wedding from afar having never seen the venue in person but it exceeded my expectations. I will say that I hired a day-of coordinator to make sure our decorations were in place and the ceremony/reception ran smoothly so I can't say if the on-site coordinator that's included in the wedding package is any good or not. Next cool thing was a baby alligator named Justin that we got to hold. Talking to some locals later in the trip they said that they hold a baby alligator in kindergarten or first grade around here, so not a huge deal. But we all really enjoyed it. There was a big alligator in the lake nearby and we could see their eyes and snout only. Another unique experience were two ladies hand making voodoo dolls. It was incredible to watch them and hear their stories. They said the voodoo doll chooses you and is meant to channel positivity and help you focus on your wishes.
