    Fried Eggplant Sticks

We stopped here for lunch after a morning swamp tour. Our guide recommended the restaurant. The restaurant is on the smaller side. A party of three were kind enough to move tables so that our party of six could have an area we could sit together. Service was great and the owner's friendly mom came by to chat with us during our meal. I thought everything we ordered were solid, but wanted to highlight two dishes: Cajun Fried Roast Beef - this is a roast beef Po' Boy, lightly battered, fried, and then served with gravy. It sounds like a State Fair monstrosity, but it wasn't that heavy. I thought it ate like a french dip sandwich with some added texture from the batter/fry. Catfish St Pierre - an interesting combination of fried catfish, eggplant, and a seafood cream sauce. It somehow works! The other thing my friends had to try was the drive through daiquiris. Left the restaurant just to go through the drive through. Kind of a weird loophole in the law where it is considered a closed container if the lid is taped on. If you're in the area, I'd recommend stopping by Cajun Daquiri for some of the standard fare, but also for some truly unique dishes.

I chose this place for lunch after a swamp tour nearby. The outside looked a bit questionable, but don't let that stop you from coming inside. The staff here were super nice and friendly. They even gave my toddler a free rice crispy treat on the way out. We had the fried pickles, fried shrimp boy boy, crawfish etouffe and the fried catfish kid plate. The fried pickles were ok, a little too salty. The fried shrimp poboy was probably my favorite. It tasted really fresh - the bread, shrimp and the veggies. The crawfish etouffe was a letdown. I thought the flavors were bland and the peas were overcooked. I'd pass on that. The fried catfish was also good. I would stick to the fried options, as those seem to be prepared fresh to order.

Crazy good menu. Charlene was a super server. It was fun to hear that her daughter's birthday was the same day as mine. We ordered the gator Sandwich and sausage sandwich. I also have the King Cake Daiquiri. After all it is Mardi Gras, and I must stick with traditions. The gator was tasty. I loved the sausage. Not big on deep fry but my wife loved it. They were all delicious and it's nice to try something different, it's not every day that you get to eat gator. This is a fun place to go into and super nice people work here. Great place to stop off and have a bite.

This was delicious!!!! The Alligator was some of the best I have had! The "crawfish egg rolls" we surprisingly really good. Started with the Fried Pickles which I was truly not mad at. Our server was really busy but she attentive and took care of us! They had me at $3 beers!!!!!

We stopped in after a swamp tour before heading out on a hike and just wanted to stay in this area to make the easy transition. We waited SO long and there was only one table before us. They served them their entire meal (appetizers and entrees) before bringing our side salad. The table after us had to wait for our entire meal to be served as well before even getting their appetizer. It just seems to be an inefficient system. The side salad is hardly a salad, only being a plate full of iceberg lettuce with chopped tomato on top. I had seafood gumbo and it was pretty good. My husband had gumbolaya, which was also good but cold. Both kids ordered hamburgers from the kids menu, and they were very happy to customize their condiments for them. Also, the service was nice. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day. I'd like to go back for their XL frozen daiquiris for just $9.50 anyway.

I love this place, cheap delicious food and daiquiris! The food will have you happily in an itis, and the daqs will have you drunk in love and dancing!

Let me tell you something. We just finished a swamp tour in the Louisiana bayou -- gators, cypress…read moretrees, Spanish moss, the whole magnificent thing -- and we were hungry, a little wild-eyed, and in desperate need of a meal worthy of the morning we just had. Restaurant des Familles delivered in every single way. We ordered the crab cakes, the turtle soup, and the étouffée, and I am not being dramatic when I say all three were absolutely out of this world. The crab cakes were perfect -- crispy outside, sweet and fresh inside, no filler, no shortcuts. The turtle soup was rich and deeply seasoned in that only-in-Louisiana way that makes you close your eyes on the first spoonful. And the étouffée? Silky, buttery, loaded with flavor. Every single dish tasted like someone's grandmother made it with love and a lifetime of knowing exactly what she was doing. But beyond the food -- this place is just beautiful. Tucked right into the bayou, quiet and unhurried, with that warm Louisiana hospitality that makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than a table to turn. We walked in as road-tripping strangers and left feeling like we'd found one of the best kept secrets in the whole state. If you are anywhere near Barataria, whether you just came off a swamp tour or you made the drive specifically for this -- stop here. You will not regret a single bite. Restaurant des Familles is the real deal.

Our server, Christopher, was very attentive, suggested wine pairings, and gave us great recommendations. We started with the charbroiled oysters which is a must. My friends ordered the filet and the gulf fish, and I had the charred cabbage entree, with a French gerwurztraminer blend. The mushrooms with the blue cheese sauce were so rich and delicious! Sweet treats were a no brainer. The blue cheese flan was creamy and decadent. A perfect ending to the meal. This is so far my fave restaurant in New Orleans.
