This may be one of the best Japanese restaurants on the island. Many of the ingredients are flown in from Japan. Their teppanyaki tastes good, is affordable and made efficiently. Lunch prices are about $25-35/person. Parking validation is provided. Service was quick. Overall highly recommend.

If you had only one place that you could try in Hawaii I would say to come to Suntory for sure this place was by far the best food, service and overall good time for a nice and delicious lunch. Don't forget to make reservations online. Got the May 2026 Shunsai-zen and it changes monthly. The set itself cost $48.00 which I think is a steal and each item was fresh and complimented each other so well. The food itself was so tasty! Every piece seemed to have a story and just delicious. Also at the end they gave me a birthday cake and some beautiful flowers to celebrate my day which was also fun! Totally would say come here and enjoy the food you won't be disappointed at all.

Checked out Restaurant SUNTORY for dinner service. We chose the Omakase ($180/pp) seating service and had a great experience with the one on one service with the chef. We got about 15 sushi pieces, miso soup, and dessert. Every bite was worth it and the sushi is super fresh. I enjoyed the ambiance of the private omakase section.

Discovered this location while exploring Waikiki. Have always enjoyed hibachi and Teon style restaurants, however, here in the states, they are always almost all Benihana style where there has to be a big show and interaction. With Suntory you get all the flavor and taste of hibachi without the engagement--which I thoroughly enjoyed! Our chef, Roy, was excellent and didn't need to impress by spinning eggs or chucking chunks of food in anyone's mouth. The drinks were excellent. I shared a whiskey flight with my wife and sampled the world's best Whiskey (which is undoubtedly Japanese whiskey!!). If you come to this place, looking for the Benihana experience, then you've come to the wrong place. But if you're looking for great food and a low-key atmosphere, then this is your spot.

I've been looking forward to trying this out but a bit disappointed, Made a reservation for lunch. They get fairly busy so recommend a reservation. Food was as expected for such establishment and the $. If you know Ward Village, Rinka is probably as good regarding food quality if not better. If you do not know Rinka, look it up and go check it out. Back to Suntory... Service is ok. Cool ambiance. Came for lunch - wife had a drinks and I had a beer as well as Manhattan. First sign of disappointment is the ice. Came in with small pieces of crushed ice. If you're a whiskey drinker, you know the proper presentation. Then the taste, just not polished. For an establishment called Suntory Whiskey, I expected their drinks to be presented appropriately at the very least! Will give them another try. Plenty of drinks on the menu. But first impression and experience are meh.

The restaurant is so pretty inside with excellent decor and a display of Suntorh whiskeys and wine. The service is wonderful and now the food, it is so delicious. We had the Teppanyaki as well as a lunch special which included making your own hand rolls. We had the whiskey flight which was awesome and then we also had two glasses of Chablis. Highly recommend.

My husband and I came here for their teppanyaki dinner during our honeymoon. The restaurant feels very proper and authentic, which sets a different tone from what you might expect. When we think of teppanyaki, we usually picture a fun, interactive experience--but this was much more quiet and reserved. While that may appeal to some, it wasn't quite our style. The food was just okay for the price, and the two drinks we ordered were pretty mediocre. That said, our server was great--attentive, kind, and consistently checked in to make sure we were taken care of. Overall, we probably wouldn't return, but if you're looking for a calm, intimate, and more traditional dining experience, this could be a good fit.

I loved this restaurant, but I had to deduct two stars for several disappointing experiences. First, we specifically requested a window table when making our reservation, but that never happened, and no explanation was offered. My guess is that the person who took the reservation simply forgot to note our request. Second, the dining room was uncomfortably hot, which made it difficult to enjoy shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. We were perspiring throughout the entire meal, despite the waitress redirecting a floor fan toward our table. I repeatedly asked about the air conditioning but couldn't get a straight answer from either the waiter or the waitress. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. Lastly, something seems to have changed with the parking validation. Just a weeks ago, we ate at the teppanyaki section, and our parking was validated for three to four hours. This time, however, we were charged $6.00. That simply doesn't make sense. After spending several hundred dollars on dinner, we still had to pay for parking? Needless to say, this policy is likely to be a major turnoff for diners visiting the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. I truly enjoyed the food and service overall, but these issues significantly affected what should have been an excellent dining experience.

I don't hand out many five star reviews, but Restaurant Suntory earned one without hesitation. In fact, it earned three visits during a single vacation. We started with teppanyaki and it reminded me why Japanese cuisine is my favorite in the world. The quality of the ingredients speaks for itself. Beautifully marbled wagyu, perfectly cooked vegetables, exceptional rice and absolutely get the garlic rice upgrade. Every bite felt intentional. Traveling with a two and four year-old can change the way you judge a restaurant and this is one of the most family friendly fine dining experiences I've had. They don't just tolerate children, they genuinely welcome them. The coloring books, kid sized utensils, thoughtful plates and little details made our kids feel included instead of like an inconvenience. We came back for the hand roll set and somehow it was just as memorable. From the amuse bouche through dessert, it felt like a carefully paced tasting menu. Every course had purpose and the sashimi and hand rolls were some of the freshest we had anywhere in Hawaii. Even the kids couldn't get enough of the udon. Before flying home, we made one last stop for shabu shabu and sukiyaki with my parents. Again, perfectly portioned, beautifully presented and deeply satisfying. It was the perfect way to end the trip. What impressed me most wasn't just one spectacular meal, it was the consistency. Three different experiences, three different styles of dining and every visit delivered the same level of craftsmanship and care. There are restaurants that chase trends and there are restaurants that dedicate themselves to doing things the right way year after year. Restaurant Suntory feels like the latter. It's the kind of place that reminds you why Japanese cuisine has earned its reputation for precision, restraint and respect for ingredients. My favorite restaurant in Hawaii and honestly one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I sincerely hope it stays around for generations.

I've been a fan of this place since my teenage years, and it still holds a special place in my heart. We went there for lunch today, and everything--from the food to the service--was fantastic. We started with Suntory Premium Malt's Draft, beautifully topped with a foam design that read "Hawaii," just like latte art. I ordered the Sashimi and Tempura Set, while my partner had the Teppanyaki Steak and Salmon Set with an upgrade to garlic fried rice. We also enjoyed hot sake and finished with strawberry daifuku for dessert. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious--perfectly executed. I tend to take long breaks between visits, but this time I won't wait as long. We'll definitely be back soon for dinner, which I honestly can't remember the last time I had here. This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant on the island--and I say that as someone who's originally from Japan. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We both love the food served in Suntory although we never tried any of their whisky:-) Their Feb special menu is named Shunsai-Zen, like a mini kaiseki of about 16 bites. Beautifully done, tasty morsels. Next came a small hotpot of few slices of Washu beef+ veggies. I had to doggie bag it too full. Last came the dessert, okay. Hubs had the sashimi+ black cod, cod never fishy full of fatty flavour, set meal with rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed everything in this eatery, the servers' attentive/efficient attitude, subtle elegance displayed and the quality ingredients used in their dishes. The chefs put love in their cooking. Highly recommend we enjoyed the quiet ambiance as well.

Itadakimasu... Thank you Nadine C for the lunch invite as not only I was excited to dine at Suntory since it's been forever back in my travel industry days it's always nice to have lunch with a friend. Restaurant Suntory is located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center 3rd floor in building B which is in the middle so if you're lucky to grab parking on the 3rd floor it's an easy walk to the restaurant and we sat at the regular seating versus the teppan section which was a nice and cozy. They do have quite the selection for lunch including special lunch menu, hot pot lunch but with some of my allergies I decided to go with their "Donburi Lunch of the Day" which was Maguro...yum! Their teishoku comes complete with salad, tsukemono and miso soup and since mine was a donburi rice is already part of the meal and what a colorful stunning beauty it was, so fresh and flavorful the rice was cooked to perfection while the maguro so fresh and delicate the presentation is just a work of art down to the flower radish. The staff is very welcoming and kept coming back to check on us and we had a lovely relaxing lunch in the heart of Waikiki though once you're here you'd never know. Thank you!

I loved having lunch here! This and Kiki's Tempura might have been my favorite meals this time. I ordered the miso black cod kaiseki, which also came with a bowl with small pieces of sashimi (white fish and two different cuts of tuna), miso soup (red miso), pickles, and good quality Japanese rice. The miso black cod was well-seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth soft. The sashimi was very fresh and well-presented. It's $$$$ for dinner but lunch is more like $$-$$$. The miso black cod kaiseki was $36, which is actually a lot better priced than kaiseki sets in Seattle. We were seated in the teppanyaki area, so there is some smoke from the cooking. Next time I would probably book a reservation to get to sit in the non-teppanyaki areas of the restaurant, so the sashimi taste isn't cut through with teppanyaki smell. The non-teppanyaki areas also look very nice and have smaller table seating areas. The bathroom is very clean, too, and they have their own bathroom instead of a shared one for the plaza.

We reserve a table for 3 its for 2 adult and 1 child?

They have 3 seating areas. Washoku or traditional Japanese food. Teppanyaki area. Sushi area. I think there should be no problem in reserving seats for 2 adults and a child in the traditional seating area, and depending on the size/age of the child,…

If i'm in the teppanyaki area can i just order sushi?

I remember seeing sushi/sashimi items in the back of the menu when we sat at the teppanyaki table, so I would say "yes" but I'm guessing that it wouldn't be the full sushi/washoku menu.

Is this place still open, I called about 10 times?

    Yes they're open

Anyone know how many courses/nigiri are provided in the lunch omakase?

They do not have Omakase. They offer course menu, Ala carte or teppanyaki.

    What's the dress code?

After the renovation, did the menu change?

    Yes

Are they going to be reopened as projected on 16 Dec 21? 🤞 Thanks!

No - multiple extensions. Latest is Late March 2022... Stay tuned!

What precautions are taken with the lifted restrictions, more specifically for the tenpanyaki stations? Is more than one party seated at the tenpanyaki station? Are there blockings between parties or empty seating between parties?

You should check with the restaurant, but there's no dividers between parties at teppanyaki. Depending on your group size, I think you may share a table with another party. I know luaus are no longer separating tables and no spacing. Definitely…

Does the restaurant allow to bring 2yr old child?

They allow children and have high chairs.

Is Restaurant Suntory taking reservations through opentable?

I wasn't able to a couple weeks ago - I think calling them is best. We showed up right when they opened for dinner at 5:30 pm, for the sushi bar and didn't have any issues

Are lunch menu items available for take out?

Aloha Janet , Yes , Restaurant Suntory does offer Take Out as well for lunch but they…

    Is this restaurant vegetarian friendly?

    Not really. Meat and fish.

Can you eat at the teppanyaki during lunch?

Yes - you can ask to be seated in the Washoku area(standard Japanese) or Teppanyaki rooms. The rooms are separate. You can also order a Teppanyaki offering while in the Washoku dining area, you just miss the "cooking show"! The timing of when the…

We both ended up getting their Signature Negitoro Bowl but the Tokujo version which has Salmon Roe + Snow Crab + Uni and added a fresh Yolk Soy Sauce. Because why not have the Lamborghini of Negitoro bowls while you're visiting here. Along with that I ended up with a half sized udon miso soup and my wife a crab miso soup. As you can see in the pictures the food came out looking just like it did on the menu, no false advertising there. The egg soy sauce was a perfect creaminess that complimented the saltiness of the Uni and Salmon Roe. Once you mix everything together there's even added house made soy sauce on the side of your want more saltiness back but add some yuzu ginger with each bite and you get that perfect blend of flavor. There's fish was insanely fresh and had zero fishy smell or taste. The rice underneath was cooked well and the side squares of nori was perfect to make our own hand rolls. There's no alcohol served but they allow you walk 15 steps outside to the nearby convenience store where they have the cutest little dog and bring in your own beer or sake. There's miso soup was good and warms you up, but will say the corner we sat on had the AC blasting (which we're not complaining) but it did cool down our soups a little faster than we could enjoy so in the end my wife's crab miso did get a little salty. But overall the food was amazing, service was friendly and vibes were warm. Absolutely will come back the next time we're in Oahu.

Thankyou Doc for treating us to Aburiya Ibushi for Grandparents Day 2026. Excited...first time…read morehere and we arrived more than 30 minutes prior to our 5:30 pm reservation. Exterior just calls out to you. I'll write more once we are seated and taste their food. I already looked at their menu on Yelp, read some reviews and know what I want to try. All 3 employees welcomed us with smiles and a happy greeting. It smells SO good when you enter of good food. Catchy Japanese pop music adds to the festive vibe. Their menu is extensive. Everything sounds, looks and tastes amazing. Erin was the best and such a pretty hostess, table server and made the evening enjoyable. Yuzu was all smiles, cute and prepared some of the food. She also helped Doc make our dinner reservations. Chef was so busy preparing the dishes I didn't get to ask him his name but I flashed a thumbs up to him as we were leaving and he gave a big smile. There was so much delicious food we asked for take out containers for the oxtail ramen and tender grilled beef. We had to pass on dessert. Actually my melon float was like a pretty dessert. Hubs drank a lychee soda. Highly recommend this restaurant. Come for the food, atmosphere and friendliest staff. We even caught a glimpse of their very young boss who also greeted us when he arrived.

So thankful for restaurants that open late. We thankfully found street parking and this was the…read moreonly place open. How lucky for us! Customer service was terrific. Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food was a bit too flavorful - we all agreed that everything was slightly salty. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. We tried handful more items but we'll be back to try the oxtail items, as it sounds like that's their specialties, but takes extra time to prepare.

The dining area is one open area, the table setting is cozy with its crochet coaster and wooden chopsticks rest. There's an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs put love into each dish. My server even pointed out who will be making my crispy pork belly. The wait staff is so helpful and welcoming. They made sure our vegan friend was well-taken care of. She suggested the mushroom jook where they would put the chicken on the side. They even added more mushroom to elevate his dining experience! Today we ordered family style, which they happily accommodated for us. They served the rice on the side. Our menu included short rib bao and shiitake bao (vegan), ume tomato, namul, spicy miso eggplant, crispy pork belly, menchi katsu, and mushroom jook. The standouts were the crispy pork belly with its watercress tomato onion salad, the ume tomato on whipped tofu, and spicy miso eggplant. The mushroom jook is so comforting, hearty and full of flavor served with chicken confit and a soy egg. The two desserts offered are both winners. The mochi churro with kinako and anglaise is crispy, light and creamy. The pineapple orange pudding is so cool and refreshing. And, 100% of dessert sales go to the culinary team! What?! Love this place. Plus, with you check are some fun asian candies -white rabbit and haw flakes! I haven't been there for dinner yet. That'll be next.
