If you had only one place that you could try in Hawaii I would say to come to Suntory for sure this place was by far the best food, service and overall good time for a nice and delicious lunch. Don't forget to make reservations online. Got the May 2026 Shunsai-zen and it changes monthly. The set itself cost $48.00 which I think is a steal and each item was fresh and complimented each other so well. The food itself was so tasty! Every piece seemed to have a story and just delicious. Also at the end they gave me a birthday cake and some beautiful flowers to celebrate my day which was also fun! Totally would say come here and enjoy the food you won't be disappointed at all.

This may be one of the best Japanese restaurants on the island. Many of the ingredients are flown in from Japan. Their teppanyaki tastes good, is affordable and made efficiently. Lunch prices are about $25-35/person. Parking validation is provided. Service was quick. Overall highly recommend.

The restaurant is so pretty inside with excellent decor and a display of Suntorh whiskeys and wine. The service is wonderful and now the food, it is so delicious. We had the Teppanyaki as well as a lunch special which included making your own hand rolls. We had the whiskey flight which was awesome and then we also had two glasses of Chablis. Highly recommend.

Discovered this location while exploring Waikiki. Have always enjoyed hibachi and Teon style restaurants, however, here in the states, they are always almost all Benihana style where there has to be a big show and interaction. With Suntory you get all the flavor and taste of hibachi without the engagement--which I thoroughly enjoyed! Our chef, Roy, was excellent and didn't need to impress by spinning eggs or chucking chunks of food in anyone's mouth. The drinks were excellent. I shared a whiskey flight with my wife and sampled the world's best Whiskey (which is undoubtedly Japanese whiskey!!). If you come to this place, looking for the Benihana experience, then you've come to the wrong place. But if you're looking for great food and a low-key atmosphere, then this is your spot.

I've been looking forward to trying this out but a bit disappointed, Made a reservation for lunch. They get fairly busy so recommend a reservation. Food was as expected for such establishment and the $. If you know Ward Village, Rinka is probably as good regarding food quality if not better. If you do not know Rinka, look it up and go check it out. Back to Suntory... Service is ok. Cool ambiance. Came for lunch - wife had a drinks and I had a beer as well as Manhattan. First sign of disappointment is the ice. Came in with small pieces of crushed ice. If you're a whiskey drinker, you know the proper presentation. Then the taste, just not polished. For an establishment called Suntory Whiskey, I expected their drinks to be presented appropriately at the very least! Will give them another try. Plenty of drinks on the menu. But first impression and experience are meh.

My husband and I came here for their teppanyaki dinner during our honeymoon. The restaurant feels very proper and authentic, which sets a different tone from what you might expect. When we think of teppanyaki, we usually picture a fun, interactive experience--but this was much more quiet and reserved. While that may appeal to some, it wasn't quite our style. The food was just okay for the price, and the two drinks we ordered were pretty mediocre. That said, our server was great--attentive, kind, and consistently checked in to make sure we were taken care of. Overall, we probably wouldn't return, but if you're looking for a calm, intimate, and more traditional dining experience, this could be a good fit.

We both love the food served in Suntory although we never tried any of their whisky:-) Their Feb special menu is named Shunsai-Zen, like a mini kaiseki of about 16 bites. Beautifully done, tasty morsels. Next came a small hotpot of few slices of Washu beef+ veggies. I had to doggie bag it too full. Last came the dessert, okay. Hubs had the sashimi+ black cod, cod never fishy full of fatty flavour, set meal with rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed everything in this eatery, the servers' attentive/efficient attitude, subtle elegance displayed and the quality ingredients used in their dishes. The chefs put love in their cooking. Highly recommend we enjoyed the quiet ambiance as well.

I've been a fan of this place since my teenage years, and it still holds a special place in my heart. We went there for lunch today, and everything--from the food to the service--was fantastic. We started with Suntory Premium Malt's Draft, beautifully topped with a foam design that read "Hawaii," just like latte art. I ordered the Sashimi and Tempura Set, while my partner had the Teppanyaki Steak and Salmon Set with an upgrade to garlic fried rice. We also enjoyed hot sake and finished with strawberry daifuku for dessert. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious--perfectly executed. I tend to take long breaks between visits, but this time I won't wait as long. We'll definitely be back soon for dinner, which I honestly can't remember the last time I had here. This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant on the island--and I say that as someone who's originally from Japan. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Itadakimasu... Thank you Nadine C for the lunch invite as not only I was excited to dine at Suntory since it's been forever back in my travel industry days it's always nice to have lunch with a friend. Restaurant Suntory is located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center 3rd floor in building B which is in the middle so if you're lucky to grab parking on the 3rd floor it's an easy walk to the restaurant and we sat at the regular seating versus the teppan section which was a nice and cozy. They do have quite the selection for lunch including special lunch menu, hot pot lunch but with some of my allergies I decided to go with their "Donburi Lunch of the Day" which was Maguro...yum! Their teishoku comes complete with salad, tsukemono and miso soup and since mine was a donburi rice is already part of the meal and what a colorful stunning beauty it was, so fresh and flavorful the rice was cooked to perfection while the maguro so fresh and delicate the presentation is just a work of art down to the flower radish. The staff is very welcoming and kept coming back to check on us and we had a lovely relaxing lunch in the heart of Waikiki though once you're here you'd never know. Thank you!

I loved having lunch here! This and Kiki's Tempura might have been my favorite meals this time. I ordered the miso black cod kaiseki, which also came with a bowl with small pieces of sashimi (white fish and two different cuts of tuna), miso soup (red miso), pickles, and good quality Japanese rice. The miso black cod was well-seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth soft. The sashimi was very fresh and well-presented. It's $$$$ for dinner but lunch is more like $$-$$$. The miso black cod kaiseki was $36, which is actually a lot better priced than kaiseki sets in Seattle. We were seated in the teppanyaki area, so there is some smoke from the cooking. Next time I would probably book a reservation to get to sit in the non-teppanyaki areas of the restaurant, so the sashimi taste isn't cut through with teppanyaki smell. The non-teppanyaki areas also look very nice and have smaller table seating areas. The bathroom is very clean, too, and they have their own bathroom instead of a shared one for the plaza.

Our recent 9-sampler dinner (private special event) at Restaurant Suntory was an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Each course was beautifully presented and showcased the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Restaurant Suntory's manager, executive advisor and executive sushi chef warmly welcomed us and gave us individual mini flower bouquets as parting gifts. The sashimi and sushi courses were outstanding, featuring impeccably fresh fish. One of the highlights was the teppanyaki beef. Every bite of the Miyazaki sirloin and filet were incredibly tender, flavorful, and just melted in your mouth! The misoyaki black cod was another standout dish--so rich and buttery with subtle sweetness. The 2 private party rooms for our group were intimate and comfortable. The service throughout the evening was attentive and warm. We highly recommend Restaurant Suntory and we look forward to returning for another delicious meal! This was our 4th visit (teppanyaki twice and washoku once before). We will have to try their sushi bar, Sushi Tokiwa next time!

Service 5/5: Service was the star of the show. Our staff was very eloquent and professional and what is expected of fine dining. Kurt and efficient. Atmosphere 5/5: You're in a nice wood themed restaurant that is bright and airy. Great place for a lunch, but a little too bright for a dinner. If you are here late, you might just think it's morning outside. I would suggest dimmer glow lighting so it doesn't just feel like an upscale mall decor that is blasted with light. Very well decorated and showcases whiskey on the walls. Food 4/5: Food was on point. Delicious and executed to true Japanese style. I would suggest the sets. Even though they are expensive, it's still nice to try. Value 2/5: This is where I struggled to justify the cost. It is a luxury place in Waikiki, but feeling hungry when you are paying for the cost of three meals will damper the experience.

TEPPANYAKI REVIEW*** I will be honest - you're better off going elsewhere for the same AND CHEAPER experience. Sure the SUNTORY restaurant is beautiful and service is unmatched, but I would recommend steering clear of the teppan and opt for one of the other dining options. First of all, we got a chef who stared into our souls when he said his 5-10 words to us, was otherwise silent the entire time and it was just... unexpected. The food of course was fine, but nothing at least to us that was mind blowing and unique. This teppan experience MUST be catered towards non-U.S. folks since they seemed to be having the time of their lives?! They don't even onion volcano or anything! Love SUNTORY forever, but the teppan you can skip.

It takes something familiar, strips away the unnecessary decisions and turns it into a process that's incredibly easy to enjoy. The restaurant is tiny, but everything feels deliberate. The staff keeps things moving without making you feel rushed, our waitress was genuinely wonderful with our kids and even the people waiting around us couldn't have been friendlier. It felt like everyone was in on the same little secret. The first surprise wasn't even the fish. It was the cabbage salad. Shredded cabbage, crispy noodles, miso yuzu dressing. That's it. Somehow it's one of the best salads I've had in a long time. It's the kind of dish that makes you wonder why nobody else bothers to do something so simple this well. Then came the negitoro bowl. The ikura shower is absolutely worth the extra ten bucks. Yes, it's a little theatrical with the bell ringing, but if you're going to pour an avalanche of salmon roe over my bowl, you might as well make a show of it. The crab miso soup upgrade is another easy yes. The crab almost feels like they're apologizing in advance for ruining every ordinary bowl of miso soup you'll have afterward. It isn't perfect but nothing is. The rice was a little clumpy and needed to be broken apart. After a while, the flavors begin to blend together more than I expected and those beautiful sheets of nori lose the battle against Hawaii's humidity pretty quickly. They look incredible, but they become soft before you can really enjoy them. I also wish I could order another bowl of that cabbage salad by itself. Our kids demolished the udon. Perfect texture, comforting broth and probably the easiest win of the entire meal. Will we come back? Absolutely. Totoya isn't trying to reinvent Japanese food. It's taking a handful of excellent ingredients, removing the friction and executing the experience with remarkable consistency. Sometimes that's what great restaurants do.

We sat at a two-person table and still had plenty of room for all of our food, which is always appreciated because nobody wants to play plate Tetris during dinner. We ordered the Wagyu and the chicken tonkatsu, and both were so good. The Wagyu was especially fun because we got to grill it ourselves at the table, making the meal feel more like an experience than just dinner. The chicken tonkatsu was crispy, juicy, and exactly what we were hoping for. I also loved that they offer refills on the cabbage and vegetables, just like in Japan. It's one of those small touches that makes the whole meal feel more authentic. The highest praise came from my preteen, who said it was the best tonkatsu he's had outside of Japan. My mom spent weeks trying to get us reservations because it used to be one of those places we never questioned. It was simply part of coming home. Somewhere along the way, something changed. The first thing that stood out wasn't the food. It was the service. One server at the front was polite enough, just distracted. Our primary server, however, made what should have been a simple ordering process feel unnecessarily confrontational. My mom tried to order her tonkatsu meal the way anyone naturally would and was repeatedly interrupted with, "No. Step by step." Not once, but multiple times. There was no patience, no warmth, no hospitality. It felt condescending rather than helpful. I ordered a draft Asahi that never arrived. No one noticed. No one asked. The dining room felt rushed and chaotic. It was warm, crowded, difficult to get anyone's attention and even basic things like napkins required tracking someone down. Then came the food. The rice was still excellent. It may have been the best part of the meal. Everything else felt like a shadow of what I remembered. The tonkatsu was darker and oilier than it used to be, the breading no longer clinging delicately to the pork, and the meat itself wasn't especially tender. The shrimp was decent but heavily breaded and slightly overcooked. Even little details I'd always associated with Tamafuji the assortment of pickles, the balance of the sauce felt diminished. None of these things alone would have made me stop coming. What ultimately did was realizing that the feeling was gone. Restaurants aren't built on recipes alone. They're built on hospitality. On making people feel welcome. Especially families who have supported you for decades. Walking out, I couldn't understand how this place still carries the reputation it once earned. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. I genuinely hope that's the case. But after this experience, I don't see myself coming back. The rice was excellent. Almost everything else from the service to the food fell far short of the Tamafuji I remember.

After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

I'm not really sure how the validation works for it though. We didn't have reservations but were seated right away. To start off, I got the shikuwasa calpico drink. I feel like a lot of places don't have shikuwasa, so I'm really glad I can get it here. They also had a lot of other fun drinks on their menu that I would love to come back and try. For three of us, we ordered a bunch of small things to share. We got the brie, cold chicken dynamite, sweet potato, and hamachi roll. It also came with different types of salt to dip it in. All the food was delicious, but my favorite was the brie. This restaurant is fun and high energy. Service was excellent and super helpful. I would definitely recommend coming here!

The hamachi with sesame sauce was ok, I prefer hamachi cooked though. The negitoro avocado rolls were tiny but decent and fresh tasting. The 5 types of tempura had a light crispy batter and were good. My favorites were the seasonal specials of hamachi kama (huge, meaty piece!), spicy chicken, and sukiyaki tofu. The spicy chicken was not very spicy at all, maybe a 1 or 2 out of 5 stars. It was refreshing and reminded me of Chinese chicken salad with the Chinese parsley and peanuts. The sukiyaki tofu was simple but good and not too sweet. The ambiance made me feel like I was in Japan and the staff were very attentive. Great service! The people preparing the food are right in the center and they are a well oiled machine cranking out dishes without breaking a sweat or raising their voices. The noise level can get a bit loud from diners having a good time.

Steep stairs. Much easier to navigate going up. Going down after some adult beverages? Better use the handrail

Yuzu Cheese Cake ($5.50) - really sweet, especially with the granola. Would recommend getting a different dessert.

This place has been a staple for my family ever since we moved back to O'ahu a few years ago. Bottom line? The soba noodles here are utterly fantastic. They are, in my humble opinion, the best on the island, and some of the best soba noodles I've ever had. I don't think anywhere else in Honolulu comes close. You come here to eat soba. Period. In addition to the soba being phenomenal, the other offerings at i-naba are also similarly great. Their tempura in particular is outstanding. I typically order the Jumbo Shrimp Tempura Bowl & Soba or the Dx Tempura Bowl & Soba. Plus an upgrade to a large size soba! The tempura is sooo good. It's crispy, light, and airy. The jumbo shrimp is especially succulent and tender. And the ingredients are always perfectly seasoned with the sweet and savory house sauce. Yummmy! If you're looking for the best soba and awesome tempura, this is your spot!!!

I finally had lunch here a couple weeks ago and damn was my tempura and soba set broke da mout. The soba is housemade with a chewy consistency that I love. I had it cold with the dipping sauce and wow wow wow. So good. My friends suggested I get the shrimp and vegetable tempura as well which amazingly stayed crispy the whole time I savored each bite. Probably 30 minutes. Light crisp batter on perfectly cooked shrimp and veggies. Damn it was good. The service was great as well and I cannot wait to go back. Nice warm atmosphere and there's a free parking lot. It gets busy during lunch and dinner, so get there early or make a reservation. Enjoy!
